We have used this emergency practice for several years with several pets. They are the best of the best. For an emergency, I wouldn't take my pet anywhere else. They are knowledgeable, compassionate, kind, and respectful. This week, they saved my cat's life. My cat came into them in critical condition and had to be put on oxygen immediately. He had been misdiagnosed by his regular vet as having congestive heart failure, was given lasix and sent home to die. The next day, we brought him to ER at metropolitan on instinct and the fact that they have always been so amazing. The vet listened to his heart and was able to correctly identify without a single test, that this was not a heart issue, had him stabilized for testing and found the true source to be a treatable condition. Not only was she so knowledgeable , but she took the time to explain everything so that I understood what was happening with my pet, the diagnosis and how to help him. Had we not gone here and received a correct diagnosis, my sweet Curtis would have likely died within days taking the wrong medicine for the wrong condition. Thank you Dr Thielsen. He is back home and comfortable and happy and should live a long healthy life. read more

This business is only concerned about making money. If your pet happens to make then good for you. The charge of 575.00 to walk through the door should have been the first red flag. The second was when they wanted 8,000.00 for my 15 year old dog with congestive heart failure to stay overnight, run a bunch of tests and see a cardiologist, just so I could be told what I already knew, he was in distress, too old and nothing they could do for him but uthenize him. Talk about playing on your sympathies. I flat out said so and that they could give him 2 hours of CO2, a diuretic and a med to make him comfortable and I would take him home to see his own vet for euthenation. Which they did and gave a a 3.00 refund and acted like that was what I wanted. Never, never use this company unless you have money to blow. They should be euthenized for such prices!! read more

I took my dog Dallas to MVH 7 days ago on a Wednesday evening around 7:30pm. They admitted him and at 10 pm we signed off on a bill to run several tests on him. They said the results would be in within 1.5 to 2 hours. By 4 am the next morning we heard nothing. They said their internet was down but left out the fact it had been down for over 24 hours! They gambled on the idea it might come back on to complete the tests we paid for. We left, took Dallas and waited another day before getting 2 of the 5 test results. By now Dallas is feeling some better. I ask for a refund as I'd seen on the news that they had no internet hours before admitting us and making false promises of speedy results! They refused a refund to me. Finally we did get 580 out of 2000 back. Unreal!! Never once did they apologize or take ownership of how crooked that was. Now, 7 days later, still I have not received the other 3 results but they said they'd send them to my vet. We have an appointment now with the vet and just have tonwait 3 more days to be told what they are. Poor Dallas is going to be 10 days without a diagnosis. He is still not acting right but is much better than last Wednesday thankfully. Never again!! So dishonest!! read more

I brought my St Bernard in after he experienced cluster seizures (he has epilepsy). They got the seizures under control, which was great. But when I picked him up, they seemed to have no idea what was going on. It took an hour and a half between arriving and getting checked out. They seemed confused about when he last received meds (it took four people coming into the room), when I needed to give him meds next, and even what meds I needed to give. In addition, he'd pooped in his cage and his feet were a mess. They clearly didn't bother to take him outside to use the bathroom while he was there and didn't even clean him up. I had to ask for wipes so that I could do it myself. I brought him there because they had a neurology department, but if we have another emergency, I won't be bringing him there. If you love your pet like family--because they are family--please think twice before seeking help at this facility. Instead of genuinely trying to diagnose what was wrong with my dog, they seemed more focused on convincing me to put her down due to the cost of treatment. They avoided discussing pricing upfront and didn't explain what they were doing. In the end, they charged me $600 for euthanasia and $300 for a small wooden memorial container--but that wasn't all. There were additional hidden fees, bringing my total to $1,000 for nothing more than a quick ultrasound, an IV, and charges for supplies. They told me my dog was in shock, her blood pressure was dangerously low, and that she was in pain. The vet strongly recommended putting her down. When I asked if they could stabilize her until Monday so I could get a second opinion, they insisted she wouldn't survive the night. Something in my gut told me this wasn't right, so I refused. I took my dog home, and she not only survived that night but the next night as well. When I took her to my regular vet on Monday, I found out she was fine--she just had an infection. I truly believe this facility prioritizes euthanizing pets for profit rather than providing proper care. The cost of treatment was unreasonably high, making it feel like they were pushing me toward putting my pet down instead of offering real solutions. Please don't fall for this trap. Went there with my 6 year old female guinea pig who had been drooling a great deal for a couple of months but otherwise seemed fine. I was there for several hours. Never laid eyes on a vet. Never got to speak to the vet who treated my baby. They prescribed a ten day treatment of Meloxicam although there were no indications that my baby was experiencing pain. Just a shot in the dark. She had never had a painkiller before but we had given Meloxicam to other piggies in the past with no problems. We were not given any warnings. They were not able to figure out why she was drooling so much. Other than the drooling, my baby was just fine when we left the veterinary hospital. She was okay for 2 or 3 days but then started to really go downhill. She would not eat nor drink. We never suspected that the Meloxicam was causing the problem. We took her to our local non-exotic vet who really didn't seem to give a crap. He gave her a shot for nausea. My baby died a couple of hours later, as I held her in my arms. I have done some research and concluded that the Meloxicam killed her. Metropolitan should have warned us. I would never recommend Metropolitan for an exotic pet. They charged me over $600.00. My advice is that when you give a prescribed medicine to your pet, especially a painkiller, watch her very closely and if you see anything suspicious then immediately stop the medicine and call the vet. If the vet tells you that Meloxicam is always perfectly safe, find another vet. read more

I took my cat there as it was recommended I find him an internal medicine specialist due to his symptoms. I had scans, X-rays, a radiograph and bloodwork done at a different vet the day before. Metro wanted me to put down a $6000 deposit for "diagnostic testing" but would not itemize this list when I asked what other tests need to be performed. I said I've already done everything except a biopsy. They said the $6k would not include a biopsy or anything requiring anesthesia. So why do they need $6k!? and not tell what it's specifically for!? I paid $175 for the visit with no meds, no advice, nothing. I was so defeated I started crying. The vet then tried to push care credit on me to give them $6k. I said bring me my baby, we are leaving. She was a salesperson, not a vet. read more

AVOID THIS ER - Pressured Into Euthanasia I have deep regret for bringing my dog to Metro Vet Akron emergency facility. He had been managing tracheal collapse well under the care of our primary vet. We had done thorough diagnostics, including imaging reviewed by specialists, and were following a treatment plan of medication and oxygen therapy. I brought him in one evening after he briefly fell outside. He got right back up, but to be safe, I wanted him to have access to oxygen therapy--which my regular vet couldn't provide at the time. At first, the staff was attentive. The vet told me it could be heart failure, hypertension, or other serious issues, which didn't align with the clean bill of health my dog had just received days prior. I shared our recent test results. They insisted on new X-rays. Everything came back normal--mild to moderate tracheal collapse, no fluid in the chest, no surprises or new info. Still, they planted the idea that euthanasia should be discussed "because dogs with these issues don't have much time." But his respiratory rate had returned to normal (36 BPM), so I took him home with a $1,300 bill and a plan to return for a cardiology consult per their recommendation. At home, he was totally himself--eating, taking meds, going up stairs, and cuddling in bed. The next morning, I noticed his breathing was slightly elevated, so I returned for more oxygen and to consult with the cardiologist. This time, a new team was on duty. I approved a $2,000 estimate and was told to go home while testing was done. A few hours later, a vet tech called saying the dog was calm, lying peacefully in oxygen, and they needed approval for further expenses and heart monitoring. Everything seemed okay, so I agreed. An hour later, I got a call from the vet. She said the cardiology imaging showed no signs of hypertension. Heart was normal. Then, out of nowhere, she told me despite this, he was "unstable," and she was recommending euthanasia due to non-cardiogenic edema and end stage collapse. I was shocked. I asked to see him. She said he was oxygen-dependent. I asked about other treatment options, and she said internal medicine would cost $5,000 and surgery wasn't likely to help. I knew from our history that he wasn't a good surgical candidate because stents don't help lower airway collapse, which we were managing. She said he had bluish gums and was essentially choking on his own fluids. It felt like I was being given no options and he was suffering. I rushed back in and asked to see my dog. My dog was brought out to me--and he was alert, responsive, licking and trying to walk out. The only issue was the same elevated breathing rate that brought us in. I asked again if anything else could be done. The tech said she'd check with the vet. The vet returned, clearly annoyed, and repeated that nothing else could be done was at the end stage of his disease. I felt pressured, emotional, and out of time. I agreed to euthanasia. Her demeanor immediately shifted to relief and became less cold. She explained the process, gave a sedative, then chased it (no time between) with the euthanasia drug. I felt his heartbeat continue. She left and returned with two more doses. After those, she said he was gone and left the room. (he was only 8 lbs) I stayed with him for 20 minutes. Ten minutes later, his body finally relaxed, and he urinated. In the moment, I told myself he wasn't suffering anymore--but that belief quickly gave way to doubt. I never received a final report. They didn't send any records or report from the second visit to my primary vet to review. Just my receipt. Later that night, I looked back at photos I'd taken of him just minutes before the euthanasia. In one, he was licking and his was tongue bright pink, not blue. He wasn't panting or gasping for air or seemed distressed ever. His initial report said no fluid in chest or abdomen. Nothing was unusual from previous reports we had been managing. Just breathing elevated. I went on Yelp and read other reviews describing almost identical experiences--owners pressured into euthanasia. It broke my heart all over again. I showed the photos and videos of the dog to my primary vet's office, and they were equally disappointed and saddened of the experience. This facility may have advanced equipment, but their emergency care process felt rushed and cold. Looking back, I wish I wasn't in shock and fought more to take my dog to see his primary vet, despite their assertion that he was oxygen dependent and unstable. Or being given an option to stay on oxygen longer or they would have consulted in someway. Infection or pneumonia were both real considerations as the culprit considering all other tests were normal. Please, don't make the same mistake I did. Take your dog to a vet that knows your animal's history and has the experience to manage chronic conditions. They make it feel like their facility is the final destination. read more

Important: the local veterinarians who founded and owned this animal hospital sold it in 2022 for $4million. The new/current owner LLC is not registered in Ohio. Their name also contains the initials of a private equity firm (NVA) that owns many animal resorts, veterinary practices and hospitals in the US and Canada. The CEO of Metro has owned two prior pet-related businesses which are now owned by NVA. So, while there is not conclusive evidence Metro is owned by NVA, there is plenty of circumstantial evidence. I have taken multiple pets to Metro since the late 90s. All good experiences, except the most recent. 12 yr old female greyhound stopped eating, had diarrhea. Kidney levels high; veterinary recommended Metro for IV fluids and antibiotics for possible UTI/kidney infection. ER doc wants $1800 in imaging/scans "to rule out cancer" (with no stated reason). At least 3 times I had to refocus him and ask why they couldn't just do what the vet recommended. Nope. Scans first. Not surprisingly, after all that, "looks like an ascending infection", same tx as Vet wanted. 24 hrs later, kidney levels improved, but "recommend transfer to internal medicine doc" for another day (for another $2000). No reason other than dog "could benefit from more fluids". The vet and I have been supervising her recovery at home instead. 3 yrs ago, my 9yr old male greyhound was rushed to Metro unable to breathe. They performed surgery and removed fluid from around his heart. It still cost less than what I paid for this latest trip. I believe the staff at Metro cares about animals. I also believe the directive from their corporate bosses is to treat as aggressively as possible to maximize profit. It's a sad turn of events for such a high quality institution read more

Brought in my cat with a small history of urinary issues, he was having severe pain trying to use the litter. Staff was notified of this before he was admitted. Not even 15 minutes of being in the ER the doctor came out and suggested heart failure and without running ANY tests, gave us the options of spending thousands of dollars with keeping him for observation or PUTTING HIM DOWN!?? "Out of his misery" As we were discussing options and asking questions the doctor seemed very uninterested and dead set on heart failure. Using "personal experience" as reasoning... I'm truly disheartened by the care my pet and I received at Metro. The ER and internal medicine doctors came across as cold, dismissive, and poorly informed. Despite spending thousands of dollars in search of answers and proper care, each visit began with immediate suggestions of euthanasia--without first exploring treatment options or showing a willingness to fight for my cat's life. What I hoped for was a team that would say, "We're in this together. Let's try everything we can." Instead, it felt transactional, focused on money or giving up. I understand financial limitations can affect treatment plans, but when someone is willing and able to provide care, that should be honored and supported--not shut down. I had to ask multiple doctors to stop pushing euthanasia and simply treat my cat. That should never have to be said. They did not listen, they did not advocate, and they did not show care. It felt lazy and unprofessional--and frankly, like they lacked the passion or skillset to truly support the animals they serve. It's incredibly unfortunate that in Akron our emergency care options are limited to Metro and MedVet. I wouldn't recommend Metro to anyone. The only kindness I consistently encountered came from the front desk staff--those ladies were professional, warm, and compassionate. read more

Not only were the staff amazing with our Archie we also got a bill that was LESS than what was quoted. We took Archie in for some lump removals that we knew would be a challenge. From the first phone call the amount of care shown was beyond amazing!!! We got updates through the day and the next morning with explanations of what was going on and when/why they may call at night. We now have our boy home and safe and I thank Dr Padgett for his care and skill, Dr Stuart for watching him overnight and the rest of the staff for loving our boy as much as we do! The WORST experience I have ever had as a pet owner. As others have said, this place only cares about your money and does not care about you or your beloved pets. I have held off on posting this review, because I have tried to get ahold of the hospital director for over a month. It took many emails, calls and voice mails, to finally hear back, and then he did not even care. Months ago, we brought in our cat who had a urinary blockage, requiring a catheter to drain the urine. He had one last year, and was properly treated for 4 days at another facility and sent home. This time, everywhere was booked, so we took him to Metropolitan Vet Hospital. I completely regret it, as the way they treated my cat and family is disgusting. We were given a quote for 3.7k- 5k for a basic urinary blockage, already double the price of what we paid elsewhere. As we are given this quote, Dr. Sydney Randall could hardly be bothered to explain what blood draws, procedure, etc that we are consenting to. It was like she was going through the motions and did not even care. We quickly agree as we want what is best for our cat. Not long after, my mother steps out to make a phone call and Dr. Randall is calling on the intercom "Code Blue code blue!" for our cat, causing panic. We were shocked to say the least, that the doctor was calling to demand the $4,000 dollar payment, refusing to start procedures until it is paid in full! The bill was reluctantly paid, and then we did not hear updates until hours later that day. The doctor calls us to tell us that our cats health is declining as they found a hernia, and that to fix it will be $15,000 dollars! She says "I told you it could cost more." ?? As she's once again rushing through the symptoms of our cat, we ask her to repeat to which she says NO, that she won't repeat! Absolutely disgusting the pushing for money and lack of compassion. I tell her that we will be seeking a second opinion and seeing how he progresses after his urinary drainage, to which she strongly opposes. They put our cat through the catheter, only to then say "hernia surgery or put him to sleep." The next day we hear no updates, we go to see our cat and he's doing just fine after the drainage. Yet, after not even HALF A DAY OF TREATMENT, the fees are going up by $1,000! We cannot afford any further treatment if only half of a day costs $4,000 and so we take our cat home. Night and day, I'm giving him IV's, the meds provided, and caring for him but he is still sick due to inadequate treatment. We end up putting our boy to sleep, as his urinary obstruction was not fully treated! They stuck a catheter in him only to leave it in for HALF A DAY. Director Ehresman says that Dr. Randall "followed standards of care" (no compassion, no communication, refusing to repeat the symptoms of our sick cat, $4k dollars of payment and demanding $15k dollars.) If this is "standards of care," PLEASE take your pet elsewhere! This place is horrible! read more

Dr. Randal needs to attempt to listen to clients. I went in yesterday morning with my very sick dog, and the doctors 1st question was "why are you here ?" , I tell her about my dogs diagnosis that my reg vet gave her and Dr Randal made me feel like an idot... she said that no one can diagnose that due to my pet having no ultrasound. I proceed to say my vet did bloodwork and told her and we are on prescription food for it, please call my vet. Dr Randal explains my dog needs an ultrasound for diagnosis, xray, etc ..because we have no clue what's wrong with my dog. She Gave me one option of up to $3000 of testing so we can figure out what's wrong. I left my dog to get testing done thinking I cannot believe my reg vet misdiagnosed me. Then at home I go through my vet records and find the paper that had all the bloodwork my reg vet did that had the diagnosis that I originally told Dr Randal about that she made me feel I made up. I called the ER to make sure Dr Randal got my vets records and the nice receptionist said they always get the records from your reg vet and that Dr Randal was available so she'd transfer my call to her. Then, 2 min later, the receptionist said Dr Randal was not available so she will put a note to call me back. Dr Randal never called me back for me to make sure she read her records, instead she calls me back many hours later to say hey your dog has the exact diagnosis that you originally said she did. But of course she didn't give me credit to say you were right she just acted like she's the one who diagnosed her even though my dog already had the diagnosis from my reg vet months ago. So, my dog had to go through painful (bc my dog had severe pancreatitis and kidney disease) testing that was not necessary , suffer more, so she can get over $3000 when her estimate was $2000-$3000. I have took many of my pets to this clinic and never had this experience like I had with Dr Randal. I was immediately shut down by her, left thinking my regular vet misdiagnosed my pet when they didn't and was given one pricey option. I have learned to always advocate for your pet and yourself. I was made to feel stupid like I didn't know what was wrong with my pet. I'm the past the ER doctor usually gave me many options to consider for treatment but not with Dr Randal. It was an awful experience I don't know if Dr Randal ever looked at my pets history from her regular vet or not and wish she would have called me back when I reached out. I knew my dog was sick and very sad she went through unnecessary treatment that I know was painful for her. I should have advocated for my dog and asked for options for treatment and them to call her regular vet. And even though it's not about the money but my pet being comfortable, the cherry on top was Dr Randal went over her estimate she originally gave me. I just feel awful my my sick and painful pet had to go through more pain. read more

Long wait. Sick cat. Desperate and scared. They pushed him back for other animals after telling us he was first up. An hour later, after essentially telling us that he was stable and could wait, he was in convulsions clinging to my arm. It doesn't help that he tries to put on his strongest front when they come out... but they should know about that with cats. Finally they came out and asked for 590 dollars. We didn't have it on us so they gave us a different package for 190. Seems sketchy. I just want my meow to be okay. We paid it and are waiting for him. After a few minutes, we called another vet. This place just rubbed us wrong. We were correct. They are all about the money here. Update: they charge an auto 99 dollars So, they make you wait, laugh about your loved one's condition, upcharge... and then when you decide that you are just going to go somewhere else-- they tell you that you need to pay 99 dollars to get your cat back. They are all about the money. They did nothing to help Puff. I now understand the 1 star reviews. I worry that post COVID, this will increasingly become the standard. Puff is doing okay. He is still weak... but he is happy to be home. read more

this place is highly concerned with $. The oncology department has serious communication issues...meaning no returned calls and no oncology person on return visit. After the surgery when they almost killed the dog by too much dope, the surgeons who did the surgery weren't there for the check up. We just saw a resident who wasn't even there for the surgery. Don't you think the surgeon who performed the surgery or who at least was in the operating room should have talked to us? This is a big problem in America, these rich people buy businesses they have no business owning and it's all about the $$$$$ and piss on everyone. This USED to be a great place, but I guess it's the American way to buy a business and rape it for whatever you can get out of it. This was a tough visit - my dog was in severe pain that started suddenly and our primary care vet referred us. Metropolitan Vet Emergency saw us promptly and knew exactly what was wrong with my good boy. It wasn't what I wanted to hear - it was the worst news anyone with a dog wants to hear. He had lesions on his liver and was bleeding internally. They couldn't guarantee he'd make it through the night without bleeding out. I had to make a tough decisions. They didn't rush me. They gave me time to call my family and allowed time for my family to all gather. I was too shocked to adequately explain what was going on with my dog, so they told my family. They gave us time so my family could go home and get my other dog so she'd be able to say goodbye (it's recommended). They wheeled my good boy out on a gurney so we could go on one last walk together. It was like old times on that walk. For however long we were out there, I forgot why we were there. He seemed so normal until he collapsed again outside. They gave me the best, most dignified goodbye to my best friend I ever could've asked for. It was completely unexpected and when I brought him in, I just thought he was injured. I'm crying while writing this review because my boy wasn't that old and I thought we had so many more years together. But they helped his pain and gave us one more beautiful evening together that I'll treasure. And I know that he's still with me but he's no longer sick and in pain. It's easy to want to give them 1-star because of pain and them telling you something you don't want to hear. I was angry at first too, but not at them. I was angry at the world for taking my dog away. But they did right by my dog. And for that I'm grateful. And I feel like writing this has helped me grieve some. read more

On Monday June 9th we were referred by our vet to take Sadie to Metro Vet Hospital. We were advised by Dr Wilson of the mass in her lung and she was put in an oxygen cubicle. We do understand her time with us is limited, Dr Wilson advised euthanasia, when we said we wanted to just bring her home so she could spend her remaining days we us, we were told, "I can't let you do that, she is oxygen dependentOn ", excuse me, she is our baby. At which point I said, " so basically what you're saying is the only way we can take her home is in a box?" At one point we were allowed to go back and see her, she was scared to death. She did offer to drain some of the fluid from her lung, but, she at this point has not in any way gained our trust, we felt by then it was a lose lose situation and she would pass away during the process. Yes the place was very busy so we were there several hours. The desk staff were amazing and kind. Sadie is fading, and we will take her to our vet when the time comes that she can no longer trot around with her stub going 90 mile an hour. read more

Please if you care for your pet don't take them here. they are all about money and hold your pet Hostage til you pay. They keep you away from your pet and will not let you see them. They had to wheel him back into the room on a gurney because not one person listened to what I said! the vet tech put the catheter in INCORRECTLY requiring the Dr to bring in 5 needles to do the actual euthanasia procedure.. so not only was he gone from me for over an hour, he was stuck with several needles NEEDLESSLY causing yet more TRAUMA to the already hard decision I had to make to put hm to sleep!! I can only imagine his pain of not being able to walk, defecating all over, being stuck numerous times with a needle, then wondering if I'm even there for him.. all while I'm sure wearing a muzzle.. he went thru because "this is what we have to do" per the vet tech! Not once did they even consider his not being able to walk or what was in his best interest!!! not once did the attending Dr or Vet tech say how sorry they were for my loss they instead HURRIED me to get the job done!!! Opening the door every few minutes repeatedly asking if I was ready to have him PTS...a part of me still believes he wasn't even completely dead when I finally left the room!!! I second guess myself often for not advocating for my guy better in the last hour of his life!!! I WILL NEVER USE THIS EMERGENCY VET HOSPITAL EVER AGAIN!!! And will warn everyone I know to go somewhere else!!! THEY ARE UNCARING AND COLD WHEN DEALING WITH A EUTHANASIA!!!! AGAIN WORST EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE DEALING WITH THEM!!! Expensive? Yes. However, I have been coming to this facility for 20 years and THEY are the experts in what ever specialty category you need for your baby that's not doing well. If you really want to control costs, look into pet health insurance. It may be too late if you're reading this review. However, this is the move. I have run into $10,000 and $20,000 medical bills because of feline cancers and other over-the-top problems. And this insurance has stepped in and paid 90% of my veterinary bills at the emergency clinic. Talk about feeling powerful when your kids are not doing well and you don't have to say no because of money. Pet health insurance will get you there. They took advantage of us taking unnecessary X-rays that were provided on a disc from our vet. They said disc was blank and it was not. Hartville vet returned our money for the inconvenience. Metropolitan vet did not. Our Daisy didn't make it and I feel like they play on your emotions with sick pets. It was not our fault that metropolitan vet hospital could NOT read the disc. My poor little dog came in looking like this and they made me sit in a car for SIX HOURS before they even took her in to see the vet! I was sent here because my regular vet had distressing concerns for her immune health. No one called me to tell me what was going on or updated me on wait times. Absolutely frustrating. If she had ate something toxic she'd be dead. When someone finally came out, they were short with me because I asked them to understand where I was coming from. She blew me off and said, " I hear ya" and pulled my dog away. One plus: They do have a motion sensor light in their disgusting port-o-potty so you don't have to pee in the dark woods during your long wait. All these 1 star reviews, I really don't understand. I came in yesterday for an emergency appointment because my cockatiel fell very ill very suddenly. Unfortunately there was nothing to be done to save him, he was either sneezing or vomiting blood. I was (and still am) completely broken and everyone there was so incredibly sympathetic. I wanted to give special recognition to Alexis. Ugh, I am in tears writing this.. she explained the process to me in the back room and after I said my final goodbye to Buckeye, she took him away. I felt my world crashing in that moment. But Alexis was so gentle and so caring with him that I trusted he was in good hands. When all was said and done (again, tears!!), she walked his travel cage out to the car for me. She had made a foot impression into clay to take home with me so I can remember him forever. It was so caring, so touching -- I couldn't believe she went that extra step for us. I was so floored and it was extremely appreciated. Alexis was so sympathetic, she also got teary eyed as if Buckeye was her very own. I loved the personal treatment I got there, but for obvious reason hoping I don't need to go back. Alexis, if you ever read this please know that gesture just meant the WORLD to me. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. We took my son's dog, Luna, a purebred German Shepherd, to Metropolitan on Sunday, 8/20/23 and checked in at 5:20pm. We suspected that she had a blockage due to her symptoms of vomiting several times a day for 2-3 days. They did vitals on her around 6:30 and we waited another 3 hours for the "vet" to see her. We had Dr. Fox, who we NEVER met, as our vet. After they did bloodwork, they called us to ask if we wanted x-rays done. Another $550 on top of the blood work and initial visit cost. We waited another 2 hours for those results. The tech came out to tell us she had no blockage and they prescribed OTC Prilosec, 30 mg 2 times a day. We were sort of relieved that there was no blockage. We were there a total of 10.5 hours plus dove a little over an hour to get there and get back home. She continued throwing up and couldn't keep any food down. By Thursday, she was now vomiting up everything she ate and was no longer urinating. What we found in her last batch of vomit a part of a corn cob. We suspected a blockage, as stated above, but Metropolitan said there wasn't a blockage. We called our vet, Dr. Fette, Hermitage, PA, on Thursday evening and advised what was going on and about the corncob. We were advised to watch her until the next morning, since the did bring the cob up. She threw up 4 times that night and when she woke up she drank about a gallon of water. We took her to Dr. Fette and she ended up having exploratory surgery for less than half of the cost of the visit to Metropolitan, but we then knew that there wasn't anything else in there. I am BEYOND disappointed in the care we received for Luna and more disappointed in the fact that when I called Metropolitan to discuss the misdiagnosis of Luna, they brushed it off and said that the Medical Director felt that the diagnosis was effective at "that point in time" and that they wouldn't refund any money to my son and they felt it was an "appropriate" charge for the care she received. What Care? It was terrible. This was the most AWFUL experience I have ever had with ANY vet clinic or hospital and If I could have given ZERO stars, I would have done that. read more

Impossible to get through by telephone. No matter which phone menu selection I tried, the answering "service" connected me to others trying to call the hospital FOUR TIMES. The other callers were just as frustrated as me. They could not get through either. I can't even find out what they did with my cremated dog. They were supposed to call me last week to pick up his remains. UPDATE: Because I live within a mile, I drove to the place. Because their doors are always locked, someone had to open the door from inside. The staff people who met me at the door were very nice and responsive. They asked for my information and retrieved my dog's remains within 15 minutes. They said they were aware of the telephone problems and were trying to fix them. I talked to several people in the parking lot who had experienced the same thing I did with the terrible phone service. read more

Wow, this is a hard review to write. We have had multiple cats over the last several decades and seeing them ill, let alone losing them, is always a total nightmare. It would be heartbreaking under the best of circumstances because I love them so much, but it's even worse under poor ones. What's unfortunate is that Metro actually used to be a decent veterinary hospital. Don't get me wrong, it was never fun taking one of our cats there when we were beyond worried & our primary veterinary clinic was closed. Going through emergency has always been costly, and the longer ride to get there (still only about 25 minutes for us) is always stressful to both humans and pets alike. But we were always thankful that Metro was open 24/7 and seemed professional (both in terms of its staff and operation). Many, many years ago, one of our cats got treated for IBD by a specialist once a month for over a year... and while he ultimately passed, she was both helpful and kind. We've sobbingly used their euthanasia services 5 times. (If that sounds like a lot, remember, we've had 4-5 cats at a time over the last several decades). I suppose I can't complain about the euthanasia services, although, given the fact we're always sobbing, some staff members and veterinarians are kinder and more empathetic than others. But, now, I think we're pretty much done with Metro. Things have changed since the pandemic, and I saw a post about an ownership change, so that may be the real problem. We've taken sick cats there, not only to pay $$$$$ and wait 4-5+ hours as described by others, but also to get all kinds of misdiagnoses. Our sick 9 year old, who most likely has intestinal cancer (her biological brother had an aggressive form at 5 1/2 yrs old) has gone there multiple times. I don't fault them for her ultrasound being inconclusive, but years ago, when she obviously had a colitis flareup due to her IBD, the emergency vet diagnosed her with megaesophagus! Needless to say, that was never her issue. I realize that they are BUSY...so busy it takes hours to get in...so you think they'd hire more vets/staff and pay appropriately (b/c they love to gouge you). But nope, substandard care after hours of wait time and lots of $$$ is all they can offer. Oh, and it took them a week to send my cat's ultrasound results to our vet. We will be trying out the emergency hospital down the road next time...and if my little sweet one needs "help" to leave us, I'll be looking into at home options. Do what you have to if you're beloved pet is sick. But avoid this place if posible. read more
