Buckeye Veterinary Clinic - My pup, Lucky!

My original vet became disabled and recommended Buckeye to me. At first I was nervous because my…read moreanimals have gone to the same vet since I was a little kid. But then tragedy struck and my cat, Holly, got cancer. Dr. Vega and all of the staff were so supportive through her battle, making sure she got the best care and all the right testing and treatment to give her the best chance and the most life, quality life, she could get. Holly's time came as an emergency on a day that Buckeye was booked solid for surgeries. But they got me in immediately. No one rushed me, everyone spoke quietly and calmly, and my kitty went peacefully. I will always remember this and Dr. Vega will be my vet for the rest of my life.

Later that day she started hacking, they said nothing to worry about, I call back to say it's white foam, message was to be passed, no response before close. Days continue of hacking and no sleep. (Wasnt happening before the visit). I continued to call Tuesday, Wednesday, and Today (Thursday). To be told someone was supposed to call me, they were also supposed to call on a scheduled follow up on Weds but that never came. I have been worried if she was allergic or something was going on from days of panting. What I was told after the 10th call was that she will need to come in for an x-ray.. REALLY?! An X-ray. That couldn't have been communicated days before as I sit around helpless. All these calls are me reaching out to them and 0 calls in return Very upsetting. I've decided to spread my experience on my local FB group (I heart emoji PLX), where I have 3,300 + local members and this experience has already stopped one from scheduling an appointment.

I cannot say enough good things about the staff at MedVet Akron, particularly Dr. Allie Heritage…read more Everyone was kind, compassionate, empathetic, and any other positive words you can think of. Last Monday, I brought my dog to this vet because she was very sick. I was told that she had a bleeding tumor, and that she would not have much longer to live. When I asked how much treatment would cost, it was far more than I was able to afford. I felt like I was failing my dog to an extent. But then Dr. Heritage said something that put my mind at ease. She basically said that i could have all the money in the world, and it wouldn't be enough to save my dog. Even with treatment, she could be right back in the same situation in a few months if the cancer spread. There were 3 criticals that came in just as we did, but I never felt like my dog was any less important. And the staff let us take our time saying goodbye. My wife even said that the assistant that came in to do the procedure teared up a bit. I felt like they truly cared about not only my dog, but myself, my wife and my mother-in-law, who were with me as well. And they cared about her well being as opposed to just making money. If I had one complaint, which keeps this from being a 5-star review, is that I feel like the room that we said goodbye in could have either been more isolated, more soundproof, or had something similar to "If this light is on, someone is saying goodbye to a family member. And to speak softly during this time", or similar. The hardest part was waiting for my dog to be brought in, and to hear someone in one of the other rooms be told (rather loudly) that their pet was going to be fine, when I knew I wasn't going to be going home with mine. But overall I was content knowing that we went to this vet. I would recommend them to anyone that needed an emergency vet (even if it is almost an hour away from home).

It's not just the routine healthcare we appreciate, but it's the difficult issues where we've found comfort in knowing proper, loving care has been administered. Our dog, Jax, was been coming here for years for routine checkups and immunizations, but when it was discovered he had cancer in one of his dew claws, we were grateful that the cancer was skillfully removed with great care. Jax recovered fully. Then when Scout, one of our elderly cats, was so ill that he couldn't go on, the staff made him and us comfortable as we said goodbye to him. Their empathy and final care was so appreciated. And now, Steve, our Turkish Van of 13 years, has become ill and has been seen by both Dr. Ryan Gates and Dr. Eric Allie. I am so grateful to how kind, gentle and patient they were with him on both visits. Both vets were also patient with me, as I had so many questions for them, and they provided answers to everything. My wife and I deeply appreciate this clinic and staff for all they have done for our beloved pets.
