    Gotham Lofts

    Warehouse District, Lower Garden District

The Gotham Lofts are wonderful executive apartments catering to the film industry. They have been…read morerecently renovated and even updated since last year when they were called the Jelly Roll Suites. I have a film exec client who rents a two bedroom, and it's what you would expect of a modernly appointed apartment that stays true to its historic charm. The spaces are clean, ceilings are high and the touch of industrial design makes it a nice place visually. The keypad security is nice, and there is decent off street parking when there isn't an event at Generations Hall.

The Good: Nice…read morelayouts. Great price for an all inclusive, furnished space. Can't beat the location. It's spotlessly clean (I didn't see one roach while I was there and I was on the ground floor) Adam and the staff were fantastic. The kitchens have all new, on-trend grey cabinetry and quartz countertops. The appliances are new. The bathrooms are equipped with Delta H20Kinetic showerheads which deliver amazing water pressure. There's a washer dryer in each unit and weekly cleaning service is included. If something breaks or is not working correctly, Adam will make sure it's taken care of immediately. There's a garage right across the street where you can rent space for $150 a month. There's tons of fantastic dining a stone's throw from your front door. Cochon or Butcher anyone? Also, while I'm on the subject, try Tommy G's pizzeria across the road at the bottom of the Fulton Street Garage. FANTASTIC Italian food, wings, pizza and desserts. The Bad: When you're renting a 2 bedroom apartment, you would think that the 2nd bedroom would actually have a bed. Nope, there was a pull out sofa in there, a nightstand and that's it. If you're looking for a 2 bedroom, chances are you're not looking for a 2nd room with another couch that's 10 feet away from your living room couch. I wound up having to purchase a bed and a bed frame for the 2nd bed room. Adam was nice enough to move the couch out of there for me. I also needed to move one of the nightstands out of the master bedroom to provide a bit of clothing storage space for the 2nd bedroom and I purchased an additional side table to replace the nightstand that I moved. When you rent a fully furnished, all inclusive unit, you also expect to have a full set of dishes, pots, pans, silverware, etc. We had 1 pan. 2 pots without lids, a total of 1 fork, 2 spoons and 1 knife. We had dinnerware and glassware service for 4 (which is adequate for a 1 bedroom unit, but not a 2 bedroom unit). I spent another couple of hundred to buy extra silverware, a full set of pots and pans, an extra set of dishes and glassware, etc. Also, there wasn't an ironing board or iron, which surprised me since you would get that when renting a hotel room. Now, here's the crazy part. I had 2 friends who were also renting at the Gotham Lofts when I was there. One had a full set of pots and pans and the other had an ironing board and iron. Amenities should be uniform between all the units. If you wind up renting there and your place is totally decked out with everything and you don't need to start buying items to supplement what you're missing, it's because the previous tenant bought what was missing and left it behind when they moved out. I know that I wound up leaving a bunch of stuff behind when I left. It's a real ghetto business model, IMO. IMPORTANT: Generations Hall is a very popular venue that's right next door. If crowds and noise on weekends is going to be a problem, this place is not for you. I was surprised that I didn't really mind the chaos. It was actually kind of fun and nobody got ugly or confrontational while I was there. Overall, I would recommend the Gotham Lofts. Just be ready to shell out an additional $300-$1000 to augment your space into something that is actually functional. And even with the extra layout of cash, it's still a bargain.

We arrived at the Refinery at about 1:am (flight delay). When we tried to check into our rental,…read morethe keypad code we were given did not work. We tried the property contact person, Kaday, but there was no response to numerous texts and calls. During the 30 minutes we tried the keypad over and over we were harassed by numerous intoxicated men. Because we felt the situation was dangerous and there was no alternative, we checked into a hotel up the street. Kady called us back at about seven that morning, very apologetic and said the problem been fixed. She said they would, of course refund our money for the night we could not get in there. She also said if we wanted to stay somewhere else they would refund our money and they understood. However, we checked other options and couldn't find anything that worked at the last minute so we stayed. I spoke with her later that day and she indicated she felt it would be fair if the owner comped us one additional night due to the inconvenience and danger of being locked out in the middle of the night. However, the owner felt it was enough to pay us for the night we weren't able to stay there. Most disturbing of all, the security guard at the hotel across the street told us that this happens all the time and they are always getting guests of the refinery coming coming over there because they can't get in due to the keypad malfunctioning . The owner denies this. I don't know who is lying, but I see no reason for the security guard to lie. I do know that it happened to us and it was horrible. Additionally, our second night there we were kept awake the entire night by a huge party next-door. They had rented to a group of young men (we counted 8). There was loud music banging on the walls, firecracker, poppers, screaming, and open drug use on the shared balcony. The walls are very thin and sleep was impossible. The good news is they were out the next night. So, for a four night stay at the Refinery, we got two nights of sleep. Could have been worse, I guess.

1st Class condominiums…read more.. Unlike most living structures in the downtown area this place is oblivious to being outdated. Usually renovated structures reek of I'm 100 years old syndrome. That drafty underlining what smells feeling is non existent here. From the moment you walk up to the entrance you know this place is different. The state of the art entrance key pad is user friendly and straight to the point. Making entering the building as painless as opening a bag of chips. The contemporary art work in the foyer leading to the elevator is a wonderful complement to the chandelier and soft led glow lighting. The upbeat yet relaxing music invites you in and the oh so faint fresh aromatic smell in the air keeps is relieving when walking out of the outdoor elements. I will finish this review on the actual condos later.

The condos have open parking lots, but the building itself is gated. You either have a key to get in or a code you use at the keypad at the front gate. The pool is nice and stays clean. Many residents have plants and flowers, so the walkways look pretty. People are friendly, and often hang out at the pool. It stays pretty quiet, though. There are some things that could stand to be updated and repaired in the common areas. All in all, it is a decent place to live in metairie.

My next door neighbor just recently bought herself a drum set... in an apartment complex, completely disregarding the idea of how much noise that could possibly make. And good luck trying to get into contact with one of the heads of the complex. I have been having plumbing issues underneath the slab in my unit since I pretty much moved in, and not once have I been able to get into contact with somebody about it. There are no phone numbers or office hours posted, and the only phone number online is out of service / flat out will not pick up the phone or return my messages. I'm looking to get out of here as soon as humanly possible.
