Friendly staff and doctor! I highly recommend coming for an eye appointment. Good selection of glasses as well.

My experience must have been unusually bad, but I thought I should add it so that the reviews are more balanced. I cannot speak to the entirety of the staff of the location, as I didn't get past the waiting area. The person working behind the desk was pretty rude. I filled out the forms as it was my first time. After waiting for about 15 minutes, the lady behind the desk calls me by the wrong name and tells me (in an accusatory tone) my insurance is no good there. I explain that I had called previously and was told my insurance was fine - the location was on a list of providers from my insurance as well. No dice. She told me I must be wrong. I have worn glasses for over 40 years, and am EXTREMELY difficult to fit. I have never had such a thorough exam, been treated with such respect, or had every single member of a staff be so friendly. Can't say enough about how positive the entire experience was! Just picked up my glasses today, and because the staff took such care in helping me choose the proper style for my lenses (Dr. Julie even gave her opinion!), I couldn't be happier with them! My son has his glasses filled at Metzger's and they girls working are always very nice to him and let us take our time picking his new frames. Last time we went to Metzger's though someone told me I would have his glasses in two weeks and when I called to check if they have them they told me it would be at least 2 more weeks. I understand waiting but no one told me about having to get permission from the insurance to get his frames. It's okay though I was still happy with how nice everyone was to us. read more

To say this entire staff went above and beyond what I'm used to in a average doctors visit is an understatement. They made me feel welcomed, taken care of and important as an individual. I want to WARN all my friends and family about the poor billing practices at METZGER EYE CARE in Florence. I am sorry this will be long. In January I had my regular eye exam, as my family has done for over 20 years. I told them that my eyesight would deteriorate some due to one of the medicines I take regularly and that the last time I was in I was told i needed bifocals. I usually wear contacts but I need to adjust to wearing glasses. I specified that I did NOT want to get contacts this time nor the fitting, just the glasses. Insurance does not cover both. So as I was looking at glasses the employee told me that the copay AND the scratch proof coating came to $33. Awesome, set me up. When I went to the front to pay for that i was informed that my total was $78. WHAT?? I asked what happened to the $33 and they informed me that they did the contact fitting and it is $45. I reminded them that I specified that I did NOT want contacts just glass but they told me I was responsible because it was already done. I reiterated that I did not want contacts but they said they could not change it. So I paid $40 down and was to pay the rest when I picked up my glasses. The next week I got a phone call that the $33 DID NOT INCLUDE the $25 copay, and it would be added to my total. Again I disagreed with them and that that was not my fault that their employee screwed up because I questioned her several times when I chose my glasses and chose against the bifocals which isn't covered by my insurance. Three days later I received YET ANOTHER call that there was an additional fee of $35 for processing the glasses because they did not have the color I wanted in stock. I again argued that this fee was not mentioned at the time of the order and I should not be responsible for this fee. It was their employee's mistake not mine. Again I was told they could not change policy or the insurance would not pay and I would be responsible for the eye exam and the full amount of the glasses. I picked up my glasses yesterday, 5 months after ordering them. Petty? Yes. I also let them know that they just lost a family that had been coming to them for over 20 years because of their poor customer service and sketchy billing policies. ONLY THEN did they offer to remove the fee for the contact fitting, nothing else. Of course I had already paid for the balance of everythiing. I told them to shove it and give me my copy of the contact fitting and glasses information. AGAIN they argued with me stating that since I did not get the contacts from them I could not have the information. I then lost it and begain raising my voice in front of all the other patients and said since they did it, charged me, and it was paid for, they would give me the information or my lawyer was the next call. By the way, I do not have a lawyer on retainer LOL. Rant over, but I hope I have helped just one friend chose another eye care provider! read more

Awful customer service. Did not tell me My insurance would not cover certain things. Not welcoming at all it was our first time there. did not introduce themselves i had no idea who the doc was. When my daughter tried on contacts did not offer a glass holder. after several attempt to talk to the office manager they still wanted to charge me and would not release records my daughter did not like it from the first time we came in. As an established patient of over three years I recently tried to make any appointment online following Metzger's web page and instructions. I took sometime to fill out the request and offered various dates and times that might work with my schedule as requested by the site; knowing that there might have to be some compromise. I stated the reason for the visit was an eye exam and that I was concerned about some recent abnormalities in my vision. Later the same day I was contacted by the office to schedule the appointment. The woman that called was very nice but simply asked "you called to make an appointment"? I stated I had through the online appointment request. She then informed me she did not have that information in front of her nor did she offer to inquire about it. I asked with all due respect what was the point of filling all this information out if no one looked at it? I was given a patronizing sorry and then told appointments are being scheduled 6-8 weeks out. I asked even with an issue? And I was told yes. By this time I will admit I was frustrated, as I felt my time had been wasted and concerned that with a possible issue I would have to wait several weeks to be evaluated. At this point I told the woman on the phone I'm afraid this will not work for me and I will have to find a different provider. My experiences in the past with the doctors have been good but unfortunately the costumer service of the online appointment making and the apparent lack of appreciation for a medical problem by the staff made me question if I wanted to continue to trust my ocular health and that of my family to this office. read more

Metzger Eye Care in Covington, KY office Awsome doctor Great, attentive eye exam Only one complaint I am a business professional with vision insurance I felt I was talked down to by the older woman with many bracelets that works the front desk I did not feel appreciated by this one person I came in to pay my bill and pick up my contact lens scrip I told her I was there to pick up my scrip and pay my bill She stated that I WILL pay my bill first and then I would get my scrip Her attitude speaking to me sounded like she was having a bad day I don't care what kind of day she was having She needs to understand that I, the customer, am the bread and butter of the company, and it is the customer that enables the company give her a job with paycheck and without me she would be unemployed I almost asked to speak to her boss but I let it go because she is the confrontational type So I will just put this information out on social media for everyone to read Again, great doctor and exam Poor, unappreciative customer service I will go back just for the doctor experience but next time I will put this person in her place if she pisses me off again read more

After going around the block 4 times to find parking we get inside the office. The woman at the front desk must smoke 10 packs a day, her voice was like gravel under water. She was nice, but hard to listen too. We sit down to fill out the paper work. I look up after writing for awhile, the woman across from me was dressed ok as was her little girl but I glanced at her sun glasses propped on her head I can make out a word or two...F....U...! Yep! that nice dressed mother has FU on her sun glasses! Well at that time we get called back to the exam room. So far so good, then the woman asked about a medication my son takes. I know the name but have no idea as to how its spelled, its like 40 letters long. She started to look it up on line, I thought ok no problem, well 15 minutes into it I say I will call my wife she will know the name and spelling, she does not answer me, I think ok she's engrossed in her work, so I ask once more, nothing, so I walk up to her and say kind of loud "can I use your phone and I will call my wife" she says I don't have my cell phone with me. I said "the office phone will do". So I walk to the front desk make my call and hand her the info she wanted. From that point I just say to my self and the kids we will not come back lets just get the exam and go. I know the office is in Covington, but really I did not think it would of been that bad.
