We've eaten here as a family for years upon years. My mom placed our order and when my dad made it home we discovered that the order was incorrect. My mom called back in order to let them know and to arrange for my dad to return it to get the correct meal. The guy answered the phone, put her on hold twice because he could not find the ticket, finally came back, and read the ticket which was incorrect from what was actually ordered. My mom informed him of that and he reread the ticket. She again, informed him that that was not what she ordered. He told her that's what they have. She again, told him that it was incorrect and explained what she did order. He then responded, "Well the bartender that took your order said that they read it back and that's what is on the ticket." Again, my mom told him that the order he was reading was NOT what she ordered. He then said, "We'll I'm not sure if it was an error on our side or yours," after she had told him word for word what she did order. Then she asked him if they could bring it back and get what she actually ordered but he interrupted her and continued to speak over her, rereading the order. At that point, she asked for the manager to be there when she arrived and his response was, "Well I am the manger. I'm actually the owner's son, so I'm at the top of the food chain. So yeah, good luck with that," as he chuckled. When my dad arrived back at the restaurant with all of the food because at that point he was going to return all of the meals, the door was locked (I'm not sure if this is due to COVID or not, but would definitely like to have clarification). A young man came to the door with an envelope that contained a full refund and explained he was just instructed to give him the envelope. The manager/owner's son wasn't even professional enough to speak with my dad about the situation. The manager/owners son's behavior was completely rude and disrespectful. He continued to speak over my mom and SHE had to be the one to suggest a resolution. all because he wanted to be "right." There was absolutely no reason for him to be that way and to continue to be that way. Customer service is irreplaceable and it is a shame that "The top of the food chain" does not value that. read more

The chips and salsa are good. Like, really good. That's as far as it goes, though. The margaritas are 80% sweet and sour. I specifically told them I have a gluten and dairy allergy...only to find out I'd been served guacamole with sour cream in it and beans with beer in them. I had high hopes for this place. Sadly, I was let down. Upon arrival, a man in a black SUV, awkwardly parked in a space, blew smoke from his e-cig in my face. When I entered the restaurant I complained about this guy. The hostess informed me he was part of the management which made sense. ***Please Read This Review*** Went to Mexicali's for lunch. The reviews were mediocre but it was across the street from our hotel so we took a chance. When we tried to walk in there was a waitress literally screaming out the front door at some people that had parked in their lot and telling them she was going to have them f*cking towed. I am not joking. She was screaming and cursing these people from about 50 yards away. My mom and I were uncomfortable but we were already past the front door so we just laughed it off. We ordered our drinks while we looked at the menu. It took 23 minutes for our margaritas to get to the table. At this point we knew we had royally screwed up but we were invested to we kept going. We ordered food and when it finally came it was absolutely inedible. I can say honestly in my entire life I have never had a meal that I could not get down. It was cold and the enchiladas were hard. Like you couldn't cut them with a fork. Hard. Nasty. We asked for our check and got out of there. This place is literally the most disgusting place I have ever walked into. I've had better Mexican and although this place seems always packed, their food is pretty lack-luster middle of the road boring safe mexican. I've had good mexican food so I just look for more than chips and salsa with meat tacos and side of rice. I want flavor and heat and this place just didn't have it. I can't say I was overly impressed. There were people waiting to be seated when there were more than plenty of tables open. Once I was seated and made my order the food was delivered fast! Me and my girls visited Tulsa on a quick whelm. We waited 15 minutes to be greeted. When the waiter came over he took our drink orders but failed to suggestively sell us margaritas or any other speciality drink so we ordered water. He suggested appetizers so we got the guacamole which was very bland... chunks of the avocado were still inside with no flavor. For the main dishes we ordered fajitas which looked amazing but lacked flavor again this is suppose to be one of the key components of Mexican food. Although the waiter was nice and kind I would not recommend this place based on greet time and true authentic flavor. read more

I usually eat here anytime I'm in Tulsa for a show, since it's convenient to the Brady, Cain's, and BOK. It tends to be hit or miss. Today's lunch visit was a little disappointing. Waiter wasn't very friendly and tended to disappear for long periods of time. I ordered the lunch fajitas. They were good but not outstanding. Beans and rice were bland. My friends complained of their food also being very bland. That being said, I've eaten here before and had a completely different experience...helpful, friendly service, great food, etc. Their margaritas and cheese dip are both really good, which is what I usually judge a Mexican restaurant by. Hopefully they were just having a bad day today. I'm sure next time I'm back in T-town for another concert, I'll eat here again because it's convenient, and let's face it, even ho-hum Mexican food is still pretty darn good. :) read more

Not my favorite place for Mexican food. The plus side, their queso is very tasty. I love the set up, they have a nice open floor plan and the location is great, very close to the Brady. I ordered enchiladas which were practically smothered in grease. I got the beef enchilada and a spinach enchilada. The spinach enchilada had yellow queso on top of it which is not the best paring, usually it comes with the white. Also as an added bonus you could tell it came from frozen spinach, it was kind of just chunks of spinach inside of a tortilla, not much seasoning or anything done to it at all. The service was decent though so I did enjoy that. My kids got corndogs so there's nothing really to rate there. Not sure if I'll go back but it wont be my first stop if I'm craving Mexican food. read more

It's a great place little more pricey than other tex mex restaurant i been too but the amount of food you get is great for the price. Food and service is quick. The Salad my wife had was huge wish i took a picture before she ate it. If i come here again definitely having the Mexicali Salad. The best thing about this place was the service. As far as the food goes, there is definitely better in Tulsa. I went twice to make sure I wasn't there on an off day the first time, but it was pretty much the same the second time. Poor Mexicali. The best thing the 'ol girl has left for her is great parking. Used to be the best Mexican in Tulsa and we've been going there for 15+ years. We go now out of habit and every time we leave, we remember why we were going to give up. Waitstaff is always on-point and friendly but the food has just become unmemorable and bland. More items used to be handmade with whole products - now most everything we order tastes food service ordered or frozen. Menu keeps getting smaller but food quality does not improve. Would really like to see them do a reboot with their food and see if they can get back to the Mexicali we grew up with and loved. read more

Had stacked enchiladas based on waitress recommendation. Mediocre at best... Enchiladas were little oily and lacked any distinctive flavor. Beans were obviously microwaved; warm on outside of bowl and cold in middle. Rice was so so. Not bad, but not good. If you are in the neighborhood for an event then it is worth trying. The manager would not allow anyone of the 5 of us to be seated until all 8 in our party arrived....he said they were really challenged for space??? I will NEVER eat there again! I went tonight in a "event night" . We were waiting on 2 of our 6 guest to get there. We figured we would grab an appetizer and some cocktails before dinner, while we waited. They refused to seat us until our whole party was there... they had empty tables. We waited for 30 minutes after our entire party arrived, so our name was on the list for 45 minutes. . We finally got seated and they put us at a tiny table that normally seats 4! I took a picture of how cramped our table was... they were being super passive aggressive with us. While all of this was going on... someone backed into my car in their super cramped parking lot. They were nice enough to leave a note. I will call tomorrow to see if the number was legit. All of this would have been avoided if they'd of just seated us when we got there. Worst experience of my life! I work a block from this place and will avoid it! Staff if super rude and your car will get dented in the parking lot!!!! We have been coming to Mexicali for many years. They have recently updated the interior. The menu is varied and offers many different choice. I usually order the Queso Monterey as an entree. It has a lot of cheese but is absolutely wonderful. It is a favorite of my children and we eat here often on Sunday afternoons. Many times it is full. Many of the staff have been here a long time and are always friendly. They have the space to handle large crowds. read more

I always try to find the healthiest item on the menu and I chose the veggie fajitas with corn tortillas and guacamole at Mexicali Border Cafe. What a disappointment. The veggies were floating in grease. I was able to tip the skillet and make about 1/4 cup of oil roll off but there is no telling how much had already soaked in. The waitress, who was awesome, said next time I could tell them to leave off some kind of buttery gravy (yuk - who knew?) that they put on the veggies. This buttery gravy should be disclosed on the menu. You'd think less oil would be a preference for anyone who has chosen veggie fajitas. The margaritas ALL have Julio's Secret Mix (aka refined sugar syrup) but, if you get a good bartender, you can ask for an off-menu, skinny margarita that is very good. (But only certain bartenders know how to make them.) read more

Great service and very friendly wait staff. The tortilla soup is the best in town! The salsa - both regular and hot are fantastic! Salads are good and crisp. The cilantro ranch dressing is great and the taco salad with the mango dressing is definitely a winner. The Mexico City tacos are the best I've had in Tulsa. Kudos to the parking attendant.
