You wouldn't think that someone from Southern California would find a taco spot outside of the home turf that's good. This place is it! From the service to the food to the drinks, this is definitely the spot. We for a few different tacos. You really can't go wrong. Kids killed the fish taco. My favorite was the carne asada. Each had toppings specific to the type of taco. Wasn't all the same like a lot of places. This made all the difference. Fresh ingredients as well. Of course we tried the margaritas. Super refreshing and flavorful. Coming on from the wild summer rain, a margarita did not seem like the right drink but it absolutely always is. Service was super friendly. The server was joking around with my kids a lot. I always appreciate when they acknowledge the kids and engage with them. Many establishments just ignore them for whatever reason. Fun fact of the day: Mexican Radio is a song by rock band Wall of Voodoo. This was news to me when I met a friend here for a recent happy hour, who informed me of this fact. Much like the song, Mexican Radio the restaurant brings bold flavors and vibrant energy to the Loop. The eating establishments in this space have been through multiple incarnations. This recently revamped restaurant/bar is located adjacent to the Hyatt Centric Hotel. I have been here for happy hour on two occasions and can recommend the regular margarita and the spicy margarita. At times the bar seating can get packed, and other times not so much, so I recommend getting here early to snag a preferred seat. Prices are reasonable, especially for downtown Chicago. There is also an outdoor patio to soak up the last days of summer and early autumn. read more

Tried Mexican Radio after walking past a few times going to the post office. The interior is very nice and colorful. I was seated right away. I had in my mind I wanted salsa verde enchiladas but they only had mole enchiladas. So I tired the mole enchiladas chicken tinga. Very delicious. I also had the radio swirl margarita. I was staying at the Hyatt. The restaurant is inside the Hyatt. There's plenty of indoor and sidewalk seating. Full bar with live music. Service was very attentive and quick. I ordered their three taco spacial and all was pretty good. I had their red house wine as it came with my hotel stay. It was nice and smooth. A nice addition. I also ordered their flan. I stayed at the hotel so came here for breakfast twice and dinner once. Definitely a mixed experience. For breakfast, I ordered pancakes and a latte, latte came right away, pancake took a long time & they forgot to give me syrup and I asked for no whipped cream on top which they also forgot. Pancake was not good, but coffee was delicious. The second time I offered avocado toast which was delicious. Dinner time was very busy and hard to get a seat at the bar. I ordered tacos that came out so delicious and good portion size (they were able to accommodate my vegan / vegetarian diet), I also got a frozen mango margarita which was massive but very average. Overall I would definitely recommend this place for dinner or just to grab a drink. But probably not for breakfast read more

Went here for breakfast, got eggs Benedict and fruit. Eggs were cooked well, fruit was good. Potatoes were served cold, and they were using a watery queso in lieu of hollandaise. The English muffin was a little thick, but seemed homemade. I would probably try this again, but would get the sauce on the side so that I could shift both eggs to one side of the English muffin and eat the other side with jelly. Great happy hour offering! I really enjoyed the flavor of the la jefa margarita. Service was ok- great area, not too loud or crowded. Easy to have conversations with out having to shout. The salsas were incredibly flavorful, with the red salsa being my favorite. I highly recommend the chicken empanadas--they were not greasy at all, and the chicken was exceptionally tender and flavorful. The Trompo al Fuego is a must-try. The presentation is impressive, and the flavors are even better. If you're a fan of pineapple, this dish is definitely for you. Tourist from CA, so I naturally I am very particular with Mexican food! We were visiting Chicago for a few days and needed a place to watch the Mexico vs South Korean World Cup game. We had tried other nearby spots but they were overly crowded and unable to give us a table. I found Mexican Radio on Yelp and went on OpenTable to make a reservation which said we could get a standard table within the half hour and had many open available slots. We made our way there and arrived about 45 minutes before the game started. Hostess stated that unfortunately all the tables were reserved (even though OpenTable had many slots open, so maybe they need to keep up with the website) which was a bummer but we were told we were able to sit at the bar which we immediately agreed to. The bar seating was right by the two televisions showing the game so it worked out well! Within minutes, the restaurant started getting busy and got even more busy as the night progressed. Service & Ambiance: Incredible service - our bartender was incredible and she also took our food order. Everyone was friendly, high energy, and made us feel welcomed. Loved the beautiful decorations and since it's the middle of the World Cup, they had sombreros and some blow horns to get loud for the game! It was perfect! Food & Drinks: We started off with the guacamole trio which were atlixco (radish, jícama), traditional (pico, serrano, chicharrón, queso fresco), and one that seemed like it had mango and pepitas (pumpkin seeds) accompanied with some delicious and crispy chips. The guacamole tasted so fresh and creamy - great for sharing and to start off! To share between 2 people, we got the steak fajitas which came with caramelized onions & peppers, mexican rice, black beans, guacamole, salsa rustica and warm tortillas. I wish they served a bigger portion of rice and beans because the portion was not really a shareable portion, in my opinion. The meat was tender and seasoned perfectly along with the grilled onions and peppers - it was so delicious! The corn tortillas were very tasty - it was a great option to share! We also got some cocktails which included their Guava Spritz (tequila blanco, guava puree, cold pressed lime juice, prosecco), El Tamarindo (amaras mezcal verde, tamarind syrup, cold pressed lime juice, agave, silky foam) and Beso de Sandia (hornitos reposado, fresh lime, real watermelon, elderflower, orange bitters). The guava spritz was so delicious I had to order it twice! Drinks were definitely strong and priced adequately - definitely worth ordering! Overall, the vibes were great! Always on the hunt for good restaurants. We just happened on this one while checking out another one nearby... The atmosphere was so unique and colorful and lively with Mexican music playing in the background. High top tables throughout and you could tell that a lot of locals enjoyed coming here as they started to file in for happy hour. During happy hour they had a great special where you could get a margarita and three tacos for $20 -- it did not disappoint. The margarita came in a variety of flavor choices, and the tacos as well from a choice of chicken or beef and I think pork. The tacos were oh so good! I had the shrimp tostadita appetizer which was very flavorful, but way too small for $19 where you receive 3 little dollar size corn tostadas with seafood ceviche on top. Guess my only complaint there would be for it to be a bigger portion. The waiter was very nice and made sure we had water refills, but he initially charged us for the margarita and the tacos separately making the bill $10 more, however, he quickly remedied that. Based on that small snafu and the tiny appetizer, I can't quite give it five stars, but I would definitely recommend and will definitely come back. read more

My husband and I had to take care of some business nearby and were looking for a place to grab lunch. The catchy name lured us in but when walked in we noted that is was a typical restaurant attached to a hotel - you know, the ones that rotate through with a new spin every couple of years. There was a cute Día de los Muertos painting behind the bar but otherwise not much vibe going on. Our waitress was pleasant enough and the luncheon menu was adequate - prices were loop typical. We arrived shortly after 1:00 - the place was definitely not super busy - so we were surprised when we waited almost 1/2 hour for our food. Oh, well. My chicken burrito was tasty but the come with beans and rice were dry and wayyy too salty. My husband's fish tacos were also very good but he also agreed that the beans and rice were disappointing. I have a small appetite so my meal was sufficient but if you're a big eater you better double down because nobody will accuse this place of big portions.
