    Hamachi collar

This is for your happy hour list. While it only goes til 5:30, this HH menu is more than enough to satisfy (and it's a totally original menu--only the guacamole and esquittes are on the main menu as sides). We tried the margarita and the carajillo (this one's for the espresso martini lovers) off the cocktail offerings and both were excellent. The chicharron de pulpo is not to miss and perfect for sharing, the tuna tostada has a kick and is a small bite. The hamachi collar is the real star, fresh and light but packed with flavor. I wish I had corn tortillas to roll it up in *chefs kiss. This is available in the bar area only and the servers were some of the best in the city--prompt and kind and gave great recs. We will definitely be back to sample the main menu.

Cute little area downtown. They have indoor and outdoor seating. The food was good but wouldn't say spectacular. They ran out of a dish and drink we wanted. They did give us a bday dessert. Service was a little slow but overall glad I tried it.

This is exactly my type of Mexican spot. Elevated without feeling too stiff and every dish had amazing flavor and presentation. Chef Carlos Gaytán was the first Mexican-born chef to earn a Michelin star and you can really tell there's so much technique behind everything. The vibes were super nice too. Dim lighting, warm wood interior, and one of the prettiest bathrooms I've seen in Chicago It starts off loud but calms down throughout the night. 8.5/10. Service was really good. Our server Leslie was sweet and gave solid recommendations. The check-ins slowed down later in the meal, but people were constantly refilling our waters which I appreciated. The steak tartare was delicious. Loved the flavor and the seed texture throughout it. Only thing I'd change is softer toast. 9/10. The tetela was INSANE. Perfect crunch on the shell and all the flavors worked together perfectly with the chicken. 9.5/10. For mains we got the barbacoa and costillas de res (we ignored the recommendation of getting only one main haha). Both were super tender with amazing texture and came with great garnishes, sauce, and tortillas. The short rib was my favorite. 9-9.5/10. Now the Maiz dessert... WOWWWW. One of my favorite desserts ever. Hard white chocolate shell on the outside with so many different textures going on. Ice cream, toffee sauce, brownie bits, flaky corn wrapper, caramel popcorn... every bite was perfect. 9.9/10. Overall this spot was chef's kiss Amazing food, beautiful space, and one of the best Mexican meals I've had in Chicago.

Food: overall good and flavorful! We ordered: - guacamole - papas zamoranas - mayan ceviche - tlacoyo - pollo con mole - barbacoa - Drinks I got the ultimo palabra . I was nervous I'd be disappointed because I had recently visited CDMX but everything was good. The maya ceviche was a red sauce and not what I was expecting, was hoping it'd be a bit more refreshing. Service: no complaints Ambiance: we sat in their covered patio area and it was pretty loud

Items ordered: Tetela (stuffed triangle-shaped corn masa, chicken tinga, sour cream, creamy chipotle, queso fresco) Costillas De Res (braised short ribs, tomato, onion, charred avocado, brussels sprouts, blend of guajillo & ancho chiles) I was in Chicago on a work trip, and had a rare off night with no plans. I decided to check out Tzuco, one of the restaurants of chef Carlos Gaytán, who competed on Top Chef. The style of cuisine here could probably best be described as contemporary Mexican. It was incredible, and I only wish I got to try a few more of the dishes. I booked a spot at the Kitchen counter. This is already a unique experience, as it's right next to the kitchen, and I had a view directly into seeing the preparation of all the food. I could clearly see the various stations, with one chef focusing on salads and ceviche, another two just focused on cooking proteins, and the one right in front of me finished and plated all the dishes. Because the plater was so close, I got a firsthand view of pretty much every single dish that the restaurant serves. The chefs were incredible, working at a breakneck pace. Every dish looked absolutely perfect heading out to the tables. The one dish that looked absolutely stunning, but I didn't order, was the mussels. It had a beautiful looking saffron-based broth, and all these little accoutrements like sautéed onions and pickled jalapeños. I was wearing slightly fancier clothing, and I didn't want to get that broth all over my shirt. The server was very friendly, and gave me a rundown of the menu. She politely tried to dissuade me from ordering both an appetizer and a large main, but I told her I had been fasting all day, and I was ready to take in some calories. She ended up talking me into the Tetela, a stuffed corn masa, and the Short Rib. Apparently the other proteins that the restaurant is really known for are the Cochinita Pibil (pork shank) and Barbacoa (lamb neck). My second choice was the pork shank, but ultimately I decided I'd rather have a beef main than a pork. Also, I regularly make slow cooked short rib, so I was curious how an elite restaurant would treat it. The Tetela was served first, and, oh my, it was just a total flavor bomb. I normally don't like queso fresco and sour cream, but I decided to just eat everything, including the sauces, the corn shell, and the chicken filling, in one bite, and it was heaven. I completely cleaned the plate. The red chipotle sauce was probably the best part of the plate for me, although the masa itself was really good too. The main was the short rib, which was absolutely stunning. First of all, I got to see the protein by itself resting in the kitchen prior to them plating it. It is a HUGE piece of meat. It was accompanied by some flour tortillas, charred avocado, a tomatillo-based salsa, some pickles, fresh herbs, and a pinto bean puree. I wanted to get everything into one bite, so I made tacos for everything. It was some of the best tasting food I've had, but with more acidity and more spiciness than I'm used to (in a good way!). The short rib was so tender and unctuous, the best kind of fatty. And every little thing served its purpose. The green salsa was really good, and the charred avocado in particular just added another layer of richness and fattiness to the short rib. I cleaned the whole plate for the short rib also, and at that point, I was probably pushing 3,000 calories. I didn't even look at the dessert menu, although I'm sure it would've been good also. If given the chance, I'd love to come back and try a few other dishes, especially the mussels and the lamb neck barbacoa.

    Tuna Ceviche

It was so lovely to make it back to Tzuco! The last time I ate here was in 2022 so when I was back in Chicago for work this month, I knew I had to make a reservation. I sat at the chef's counter (one of my favorite things to do especially if I'm dining solo) and took in the sights, sounds, and smells of the kitchen. I started with a ÚLTIMA PALABRA and it was fantastic! Honestly this should have been my drink of choice all night. For food I ordered the tuna ceviche and pulpo enamorado. Tuna Ceviche: incredibly delicious and fresh with a smoky kick. The yuzu cut through the fattiness of the tuna so well and it was my favorite dish of the night Pulpo Enamorado: I wasn't sure about it after my first bite as I thought the octopus had too much of a char. After sharing this thought with the manager when he checked in on my meal he let me know that taste was due to the salsa macha. HOWEVER, once I pairs the octopus with the pickled carrots, peas, potato tonnato aioli it was a match made in heaven. The octopus was cooked well and was super tender I ended with the Maiz for dessert which was such a delight to eat! The charred corn ice cream was encased in a candied (?) corn mold, caramel, toffee, orange purée, honey gelée with caramelized popcorn. I also had a Michelin-starred Chef Carlos Gaytán sighting! This trip solidified Tzuco as one of my favorite Chicago restaurants.

Dessert. Looks like lemon. It is not. Fun dessert!!

This is a fun, upscale Mexican restaurant. I made a rez a week prior. We were in Chicago for a business trip and a friend/fellow diner had been here for a business /group dinner and recommended we try it. Again (for her). The restaurant was accommodating when i called earlier in the day if we could push the rez back. They were so friendly about it. Three of us diners shared: MEJILLONES mussels, seffron beuro blanc. driad choriao, pickled jalepeton, house mada masa TETELA Stuffed triangle-shapad com masa chicken tinga. Sour cream, creamy chipotle, queso fresco BARBACOA with tortillas. We let them know that I am not able to handle spicy food. They were happy to place such sauces and salsas on the side. I was so grateful. The server was always helpful and eager to make our meal pleasant. Mission accomplished. The barbacoa lamb shank was very tender and the spices used were amazing. Wrapping a piece of fresh tortillas around a lamb bite was a tasty experience. My Hubby and friend both ordered cocktails and the second round came with instructions to taste one item first? The other was on fire. It resembled an old fashion? I wish I had tried the sangria. Next time. The desserts!! When a restaurant follows through with elevated desserts, it says a lot about the chefs and pride of the restaurant. We shared: MAÍZ Charred corn ice cream, caramel, toffee, orange purée, honey gelée with caramelized popcorn. It looks like a corn on the cob! But it is NOT! What a fun dish. So yummy! LIMON Lemon mousse, coconut crumble, lemongrass ice-cream, yuzu jelly. It was shaped and looked exactly like a lemon. It was refreshing and fun to eat. I love yuzu anything. Highly recommend!

Usually enjoy this place. I absolutely love their Horchata Latte Martini! I ordered both their specials, the lobster tostada and their drink special both of which I enjoyed. I only really came for a couple drinks and maybe something light. Unfortunately our server seemed extremely pushy and made us feel like we needed to hurry up. Even when paying for the bill he stood over me while I was getting the cash in order instead of waiting for me to leave the check on the table which made it extremely awkward. Ended up leaving and going to Z Bar down the street to finish up the night. Drinks food and atmosphere are great but service pretty much ruined everything else.

Always love tzuco! The mussels and the tzuco marg are my favorite part by far. The mahi mahi was delicious with the herby sauce, would definitely get that again!! First time sitting on the patio and it was a great vibe.

Late review from restaurant week back in early February! I've been to Tzuco a few years ago, but haven't gone back and thought this would be a good excuse to go since the restaurant week deal seemed worth it. We did the wine pairing too, and it was amazing! We were obsessed with the dessert pairing the most -- it worked so perfectly. I still think about it. We had a choice of an appetizer, entree, and dessert. For my appetizer, I got the tetela, which looked so beautiful on the plate, and it was even more tasty than it looked. For my entree, I got the pollo con mole, and the flavors all worked perfectly together. And for dessert, I got the cacao.

    Mayan Ceviche

I went to Tzuco last night (Wednesday) without a reservation. It was still pretty busy, but we were seated right away -- no wait, which was a pleasant surprise. The drinks were solid. The Rosé Margarita was really good -- refreshing and well-balanced. The sangria was described by our server as "balanced," and while it was smooth, I could definitely taste the brandy more than I prefer. We ordered two appetizers and one main entrée, and it was more than enough food for two people. My only hesitation is that some of the dishes looked more substantial in the online photos and descriptions. The fried plantains and Brussels sprouts were more of a shaving or garnish than a true side. They were flavorful, just very minimal in portion -- especially on the Short Rib and the Mayan Ceviche. That said, the overall vibe was beautiful. The space truly felt like you were transported to Mexico City.

We went here for brunch during the weekend and got a table with no reservation no problem. We were seated quickly a service was great. The ambiance was a bit strange. It was very industrial looking and I believe they were going for a desert look with minimalism but it just lacked character and vibe. It was almost cold and empty looking. Just not what I was expecting. The food was good. The tacos were my favorite part and very flavorful and juicy. The other dish was interesting and something out of our comfort zone and it was good but the prices were a bit extreme. I'll probably be coming back for happy hour to taste other things for a more reasonable price.

We do not have enough words to say how much we enjoyed our dinner at Tzuco! We ate at the bar since we were headed to a concert and David was our bartender/server. He took the time to get to know us and recommend several things on the menu! We had the ribeye tacos, mole, and chicharron de pulpo. Mole was my favorite and the tacos were my husband's favorite. It was all delish. The experience, hospitality from David and food left us talking about it still the next day after! We cannot wait to be back! David - Fuiste tan atento e hiciste que nos sintiéramos increíblemente bienvenidos esta noche! Muchas Gracias! Nos veremos cuando regresemos a Chicago!

Or youre dating someone who likes Anthony Bourdain and you've convinced her you're a foodie. I rarely if ever give a place 5 stars but I have to for this place. At a high level heres what made it stand out to me from other often mentioned places in chicago: the portions felt decent for the prices, the food was actually good, and the vibe truly did feel like a busy French bistro vs the well spaced large rooms of most other restaurants. It's not great if youre someone overstimulated easily, hard of hearing, or need elbow room. Or if youre looking for this uber luxe quiet formal vibe. But if you want to go somewhere where you feel like youre in a (extremely well known) hole in the wall this is it. Even though it was crowded one of my favorite parts was that the chefs or at least culinary dressed not front of house vibe dressed staff- were walking around as well so it was like you were really in the back of the kitchen secret table vibes. I also appreciated that a couple got engaged and they called attention to it without making us all cheer incredibly loudly. Me and the table next to me were like- who? what? They have good N/A champagne which I appreciated. And the bay leaf ice cream tasted like some legit herbs - which as someone whose goal is to really taste plants and the flavors of the earth - I appreciated.

Le Bouchon is an excellent example of the idea one *can* have too much of a good thing. Alas, there…read morewere more things that went a little south with the experience. I ordered the Escargot and the French Onion Soup. There was also free baguette included at the start of the meal. I loved that the baguette had a substantial crust, for it was an absolute delight to butter it up (though not the best butter in the world), and dip it into the herbaceous escargot butter. However, the inside, despite its temperature, was still gooey/doughy. Too much crust or some other technical issue? I'll let those with baking experience sound off. Whatever the case, the last thing I want to do with fresh baguette is ripping out the innards and rolling it into a ball of silly putty. Now, for the escargot... ah snails, an old favorite, for I don't really love fast food (ha!) These were mostly good, save for two things: First, the texture was still just a little slimy, reminiscent of an oyster. 30 seconds more cook time is all they needed, a minute would be too much! Second, the sauce didn't do them any favors. I've had escargot in a rich, buttery, garlicky, slightly herbed sauce that was beyond divine. This dish went triple-overboard, if not more, on the greens - making it resemble a chimichurri rather than something turning snails into decadence. Now, we arrive at the French Onion Soup. The sheer amount of cheese was so excessive that I recoiled even though I have a line item in my budget for cheese. I fished what remained out, and consumed it only out of spite. Now, while I appreciate the use of crusty bread that didn't turn into soggy croutons, the size of the pieces was too large. I'm one who orders prepared food with the understanding that it is prepared and should require minimal additional work. Steaks that need slicing are exempt, soup is not. Unfortunately, there was one more undoing: while I can understand a less sweet soup may be normal variation in the recipe, one of the spoonfuls had something very sour, as if it was a large wad of sour cream (though none was present). This made were otherwise rich and flavorful broth less than enjoyable. When it comes to the service, this had some good and bad. It was friendly, attentive, and the food came out fast. However, an item of note is that finished plates were not cleared in due course. This applies not only to myself but also the stranger sitting next to me. Final verdict: I wanted to love Le Bouchon, really I did. I was even hoping, at first, to try more of the menu on a return visit. However, the poor execution across the board does not provide the confidence needed for a return visit.

The ambiance is classic French bistro meets old money elegance: dim lighting, romantic, and perfect for date night. Food & Drinks: * Sidecar cocktail: Excellent. * French onion soup: The highlight of my meal. Rich, cheesy, perfectly oniony, and honestly one of the best French onion soups I've had. * Steak: My boyfriend enjoyed it, but I found it slightly chewy and under seasoned. The creamy sauce served with it, however, was delicious. * Mussels: Large portion with great garlic butter sauce and bread for dipping. The challenge was that most of the sauce sat at the bottom of the deep pot, making the mussels taste a bit bland at first. Interestingly, the leftovers the next day were amazing once everything had soaked in the sauce...flavorful and delicious. Overall: A charming French restaurant ideal for date night with standout service and a cozy atmosphere. I'd absolutely return and would love to explore more of the menu next time.

Our first visit here was for Restaurant Week, but we have been back several times after that. The restaurant itself is absolutely adorable. Lots of two top tables as well as some four tops. The bar area is functional as it allows for seating to have drinks and to dine. Each time we have been there, the music has been off the charts. I was a little taken aback (in a good way though) when I heard Aretha Franklin. My mind was a little confused because I felt like I was in a small French restaurant in Paris and was expecting French Cafe Jazz/Chill music. But hearing the Queen of Soul changed the whole vibe for me. The menu is very eclectic and changes quite a bit. The one thing that has been consistently on the menu are the Pommes Dauphine (oyster mousse, pickled red onion, osetra caviar), which I adore. Another dish that was the Slagel Duck Breast à l'Orange (pistachio, baby carrots, marmalade demi-glace, wild herbs). This was also very good. The duck was prepared just right, with the meat tender and juicy, but the skin nice and crispy. The Duck Liver Mousse (beer jam, honey-roasted peanuts, mint) is also a favorite of mine. Every time we have dined here, the Wine Director, Terry McNeese, has taken care of us for wine and beverages as well as sometime speaking to us about the food specials. He was gracious and informative, and easy to talk to. It was not until our second visit that we discovered who he was after he gave us his card. I was inquiring about some of the music on that night and he mentioned that it was a Spotify playlist. He has created several playlist under "DM" specifically for the restaurant. He told us he was on Spotify and that we could find the music there. In addition to the music, he has a very nice curated wine list, by the glass and bottle. My favorite is Camille Braun Cremant d'Alsace Brut Rosé Alsace, France N.V. (Pinot Noir). What they do not have is cocktails, so come prepared to drink wine, beer/cider or non-alcoholic beverages. Terry made some recommendations for The Queen, who is a cider lover. She was very happy with the selections and he actually made a recommendation of one for her to try (on the house). If I had to say I had a complaint, it would be that Dear Margaret turns out some great dishes, but because they change the menu often, don't get attached like I do because your feelings will be hurt when it is no longer available. But on the plus side I would say you get to experience something new and exciting on your next visit. There is plenty of street parking as they are located on Lincoln Ave, so it is easy to go there and not fight for a spot or use Spot Hero. So if you are looking for a quick European getaway that doesn't jet lag, get thee to Dear Margaret très vite.

Definitely the best French restaurant I have ever tried. Dishes were creative and delicious, and…read moreservice was of high standard. I ordered Asparagus Mi-Cuit, Fried Rabbit Terrine and side of 9-grain toast. The asparagus was served chilled (room temp.), with edible petals, shaved egg yolk, fish roes and vinaigrette. The asparagus was fresh and crispy, with a light hint of sweetness. The egg yolk was cured with sugar and salt in fridge and added some saltiness. The fish roes was "rubbery" and tasted creamy, complementing the texture and flavor of asparagus. Moreover, these ingredients paired well with one another. The main dish, the fried rabbit terrine was also great. Pulled rabbit leg meats and rabbit gelatin were coated with flour and deep fried. Surprisingly, the fried stuff was not heavy or greasy at all. The meat was tender, the gelatin added some creaminess and richness to it. The dish was served with lentils and horseradish cream. Not sure why they used lentil as side. Perhaps the sprouted lentil and beets used by Cira would be better. Still, it was a good dish. For the bread, I originally wanted to try their baguette, but they only serve baguette from Thursday to Sunday, so I tried the 9-grain toast instead. It was dense, moist and earthy. Each small slice was about 22.5g! I hope I can try their baguette next time I visit Chicago!

When we arrived for our reservation, we waited a couple of minutes before we were greeted and then seated at our booth. The restaurant was bustling on a Monday evening, and it took a while (~20 minutes) for our server to finally take our drink orders. This gave us plenty of time to look over the menu and decide our food orders at least. For our party of three, we ordered the beef tartare and escargot to share and three individual entrees. Despite the long time it took to place our orders, our food was brought out quickly. This was my first time seeing escargot served without the shells; while this may have been easier to manage without the special escargot tongs and fork, it was difficult to capture the buttery garlic sauce that was trapped in the serving dish. Additionally, the escargot was served with only two small pieces of bread, which was not enough for the three of us to share. I ordered the scallops for my entree, and these were served over a creamy bed of artichoke puree with sweet roasted cherry tomatoes. The scallops were cooked perfectly, and the artichoke puree was a creative (and delicious) twist to one of my favorite types of seafood. I ordered a glass of sauvignon blanc to enjoy with my scallops, but the wine was so overwhelmingly sweet that I couldn't finish the glass. Despite these hiccups, the scallops made the experience worthwhile.

Some of the standouts that I would definitely come back for were the French onion soup and steak frites. The gnocchi is definitely unique - I personally really liked it but it may not be for everyone. On the other hand, I probably wouldn't recommend the crème brûlée - maybe I just got unlucky coming in on one of the coldest days of January but I felt like mine wasn't properly warmed up so it kind of had a cottage cheese texture I didn't love to it

I hadn't been back to check out the other restaurants in this space since Dos closed a few years ago, so I don't have the history on how this space has turned over a bit in the time since. I DO know this much: Bar Parisette is a strange ride. That's because I'm not really sure what it is going for, based on a dinner I had at the space last weekend. Bar Parisette, for a lot of reasons, gave me the sense it was going for French bistropub. The steak frites, the burger, the snacks, the drinks...all of that felt like it was right at home, but none of it was as strong as the food I've had at TDS. I went with the burger specifically because the burger at TDS is so good, but it just...wasn't, here. The meat was a little plain, the fries were fine, the bun was solid; the pieces were there, but as a package, it wasn't humming. The almonds were an interesting choice, but not one I would run out to make again; the trout dip was a winner with a couple of the folks in our party, but I skipped it since trout dip is not really my thing. I think the vibe was more a turnoff than the food and drink, though. Pardon my French, but it just wasn't sexy in here, and even though it was a Saturday night, it wasn't really hopping inside the space. If there was music playing, I didn't hear it or don't remember it, and the layout at Bar Parisette is functional but doesn't allow for the sorts of people-watching I like at other places in Chicago. (This became especially pointed when we left and walked next door to Gretel, which was jam-packed.) Service wasn't pushy, but it was certainly aggressive; our server came over three times in the first 10 minutes to check on our need to order, despite the fact that we were clearly a group that had not caught up in a while and had not spent much time with the menus. (European, this was not, at least in terms of speed.) But then we DID order, and it took 20 minutes to get our drinks and 30 minutes to get appetizers...then another 30 to get dinner. I didn't notice this as much because I had a late lunch, but my wife was showing signs of "hanger" that got more belligerent as the night went along. "Hurry up and wait" was never more apparent than this, and the staff acknowledged that it took too long for our food to come out, especially in a space that was almost completely empty by the time our mains came out. For $300 (this did include an $80 bottle of wine, note), my expectations are a little higher. Dos, this is not, and it's hard to imagine a scenario where I would come back to experience Bar Parisette a second time.

If you're in the area, especially during happy hour (extended to all day on Mondays, closed Tuesdays), stop in. All the areas are lovely and comfortable (bistro, dining room, bar, kitchen counter) and service is friendly and knowledgeable. Absolutely great wine list (and keep an eye out for special event Wine Dinners), including value priced House Wines during HH. Very decent burger and fries, small snacks and full sized plates abound at very good prices. Like its relative restaurant Table, Donkey & Stick, good food, good drinks and good times are sure to be had.
