My dining bud and I split a bit of our food so this is the "after" photo. The had the huevos en salsa. They wanted to try the chilaquiles so we split them. I can't have dairy so we had them on the side. Their plate came with warm tortillas as seen in the red bin. I liked the potato slices, the beans, and the chilaquiles. I thought the carne asada was a bit burnt. Otherwise the food was great. I loved the service and ambience of the restaurant. You definitely feel like you're dining in someone's kitchen in Mexico. Let's begin with history, in 1986 is when this family own business started. Diego in Mari the founders of the restaurant are always here to welcome you. This is a true authentic Mexican restaurant. All the food is made fresh. Their menu is very extensive with over 100 different recipes available. Today I decided to have the Barbacoa De Res and it Served with rise and beans and they also provide chips and salsa. If you want to taste authentic cuisine, Mexican cuisine from the state of Durango and state of Sinaloa you have found a place. Brought my mom for breakfast to this nice hidden gem. It was nice and cozy and the lady who helped us was so nice. Very polite and on top of checking on us. I loved this place. I just happen to be in the area and I Yelped restaurants near by. This one came up. I decided to give it a try. The lot where it is located is not very appealing, but don't let it fool you. Once you enter the restaurant, you feel a sense of home. I ordered the huevos rancheros and they were delicious! The beans that accompanied them had good flavor. They were topped with queso fresco. My husband had the steak picado. It had the right amount of spices. The meat was tender. It was accompanied by rice, beans, and salad. The meals definitely had a homemade flavor! The portions were good, too and the prices were reasonable. The atmosphere was festive, but not overwhelming. There was music playing and the other customers looked happy to be here. Some that came in appeared to be frequent customers. They were greeted by name. We felt very comfortable being here. The staff is very friendly and the owner personally came to our table to greet us and asked if there was anything else we needed. Overall, it was a great dining experience. BOMB Chilaquiles! We stopped by for breakfast the other morning after finding this little gem on Yelp. Customer service was was fantastic. Do yourself a favor and order a large horchata and you'll be as surprised as we were with the size! They do have a sign that says cash only which we almost walked out but we're stopped by staff member who said they do take electronic payment. Food was out quick and it was fresh and yummy. This great little restaurant is right near my home. I eat here every week at least once. It keeps me coming back! Mexico 86 has been around for about 20 years and serves up traditional Mexican food prepared in what today would be called "gourmet" style. They've been making their food with style for two decades! I recommend the mariscos empapelados--a seafood mixed broiled in aluminum foil with a light cream sauce and served with white rice and vegetables. I mix the rice in with the seafood and then eat it in the hand made tortillas. A good sign of truly authentic Mexican food is definitely handmade tortillas! The fajitas mixtas (beef and shrimp) are a favorite, the molcajete Maya is also good with pork, carne asada, chicken, nopales, potato slices, cheese, and salsa in a hot stone molcajete. All dishes are served with sides like rice, salad, refried beans, charro beans (a sort of bean soup), etc. The burritos mojados are HUGE and most cost less than 5 or 6 dollars. You can even get a chile verde pork burrito even though it is not on the menu--just ask. Love it! The restaurant has lots of breakfast plates (the coffee is great and so is the traditional Mexican hot chocolate), lunch dishes like burritos, chiles rellenos, tacos and enchiladas--but this is NOT a taqueria. Don't expect to order tacos like at a taco stand. They do, however, have a kids menu with burgers, etc. The restaurant specializes in seafood. You will find many dishes here that you may not have seen in other more conventional places. Mexico 86 is in Huntington Park--a nearly 100% Latino town. They don't need to modify their food to fit the taste of non-Latinos. Authenticity is guaranteed. They have a number of beef dishes, steak picado, even a T-bone! Carne asada of course. They also have parrilladas for large family gatherings. The restaurant is relatively small, but on the weekends I see groups of ten and twelve seated together. The service is excellent--the servers having worked there nearly since the day it opened. Alcohol is served (beer) but not to excess--it's not a bar. It is a family restaurant. It has a parking lot in front that it shares with a laundromat, but you can usually find parking. This is a local treasure. read more

1st time costumer ordered "16oz" ceviche de pescado (fish) and another of camaron (shrimp) Order was made to pick up, so I can't review the in restaurant service I had heard great things of this place from coworkers and friends so I had high expectations for this place. After looking at the reviews, I really thought this place was going to be good. However after my visit I was extremely dissatisfied. Service takes too long, taking into account that the restaurant was almost empty. I asked the cashier that I wanted my carne/meat well done, however it was not done. Had to take it back so they cooked the meat the way I asked and they did so. But once again I had to wait a ridiculous amount of time.
