I waw in the city of Huntington Park and was looking for some good Authentic Mexican food. I have to say I was very impressed with El Chamizal. As soon as I arrived I was greeted immediately and given a table by their stage. I ordered their Camerones Chamizal (Bacon Wrapped Shrimp and a Michelada. The food was absolutely delicious and the Michelada hit the spot perfectly The service overall was great from beginningtoend. I was also told that the restaurant is under new ownership and that starting April 23, 2026 they will be having live Mexican music every Thursday night. I had read rave reviews about this restaurant. Sadly I was dissapointed the margaritas were watered down and the alcohol was non existant i had to ask the waiter if he had given me a virgin marhargita. The pescado sarandeado arrive half cooked and disgusting. We could not eat it. I orderd campechana and it was ok. I told the waiter and the manager about the fish plate and all i heard was im sorry, the manage said he doesnt like that fish either. The bathrooms on our way out were very very dirty. I've been to El Chamizal a number of times over the past couple of years, and have always enjoyed it. The interior is spacious, with a nice ambience and cheerful vibe. We've always been there for meetings with several friends, and have always received good service. The fish "filete" plate is good---really enjoyed it! Fairly large portion, with rice and baked potato. All good. I've also had the enchilada plate with rice, beans and topped with sour cream. Very flavorful with a delicious green sauce, and I would order again. El Chamizal is located in the heart of downtown Huntington Park (on Pacific and Florence). In front of the restaurant, there are metered parking spaces. But behind the restaurant is a parking lot where you can park for free---this is where I usually park. read more

Came here on Saturday around 2pm. Surprisingly it was not busy or crowded.Many years ago this use to be a good spot, good food and always busy. Chips and salsa were ok. Overpriced for the quality of food I received. I had paid over $30 for a sad looking, flavorless parillada. Only reason they get 2 stars is for their customer service with their attentive waiters. When I first walked in to this business, I could immediately tell I was out of place. Everything is in Spanish, and most of the staff do not speak English. Thankfully my date spoke Spanish as her first language, but even she had trouble reading the menu that was all-Spanish. All of the drinks they served were made with well liquor, so I lost my desire to drink more after my first beverage. The presentation looks really pleasant, but the flavor of the drinks has that yucky, low-quality well liquor flavor. The staff were all really kind despite my inability to speak fluent Spanish. However, once the live band came on it was so loud that I couldn't have any conversations with my date. My tinnitus was triggered pretty bad by the excessive volume of the band, and it was ultimately an uncomfortable listening experience. I must say that the food would be the sole reason I ever return here, and it was so good that I will actually be returning here in the future when I feel like some bomb Mexican food. Everything was brimming with flavor, and the presentation was on point. If all you go for is the meal, you won't be disappointed. Went here for late lunch/early dinner 3 couples. Last time I went here was like 20 years ago. Wanted to really enjoy some good food. The place looks like a big middle school cafeteria inside with Poor lightning and tables just scattered everywhere, very chaotic looking. We got in like 230pm right before the crowd so they sat us down right away. Which was good. The service was just like the initial appearance. Chaotic. It seemed as if only one waitress was serving the entire restaurant. So service was eh. All in all. The wait staff did the best they could. No manager in sight to help them. We ordered some drinks. Beer and margaritas. The margaritas were pretty small and a bit watered down. The beer? Well how can you mess up opening beer? Beer was good. We had some ceviche as appetizer. I was told that the shrimp ceviche is the same as the ceviche at mariscos El Paisa. Wrong. Not even close. The shrimp was boiled and not cooked in like like at El Paisa. Flavor was just ok. More like a supermarket ceviche. We ordered trio fajitas, beef, chicken, Shrimp which came with rice and beans and hand made corn tortillas. The food was good. Overall a little overpriced if you ask me. Almost as if it is priced for when they have music/entertainment. However there was none. 3 entrees 2 appetizers and about 3 rounds of drinks $250. I mean considering we had a good time and several drinks. Not bad. However considering drinks were mostly bottled beer, eh. Just a tad overpriced for the place. I have been to this restaurant many times. The service is always good. They are attentive. On Monday November 20, 2023 at around 5:45pm we visited this location. We ordered our favorites as always. Something seemed off in the restaurant. Like the lighting was turned off inside. It was quiet when normally it's full for dinner time. They seemed short staffed. Food arrived and it tasted great. We shared food and took some to go due to portions being so big. It was a total of $74.76 and service was good. Later on that night all three of us that consumed the food began throwing up and got diarrhea. We got food poisoning. Today is day #3 of misery. Probably won't be visiting this spot again on a Monday or any time soon. read more

I was having lunch with a friend and trying to find a place between us. He is in Lincoln Heights and I was at my boyfriend's in Culver City. So Huntington Park seemed like a middle ground. I looked for a place and found El Chamizal. I picked it mainly because I wanted table service and the other photos looked good. I was running about 5 minutes late and my friend had finished the chips & salsa and said, "If the salsa is any indication of how the food will be, it's going to be great!" We both ordered The Molcajete Mixto: Prawn, chicken breast, carne asada, cheese, tomato, molcajete sauce, and avocado. It came with 3 fresh-made tortillas, for $26.95. I ordered the lemonade, which was a bit too sour and they didn't have any limes or lemons for my food, which would normally have me give them four stars but the food was really good. The music was just the right volume to sing a long and still have a conversation, the server, Judith, was nice and knew exactly when to approach and when to give us our moment to visit. They charged me two of the same thing and I only ordered one I will not pay 185 dollars for something that I didn't eat.

I don't know where to start. When you enter a restaurant it's supposed to give you a great experience. I can't share that with this restaurant. The service is sub par, anyone drinking can expect a second beer as soon as they finish theirs, of course hoping you'd drink more and spend more. However, anyone else can expect your drink to never get refilled or asked. After ordering two separate plates, burnt baked potatoes and cold queso fundido. The weight of the cheese did more justice than the actual melting of the cheese. After asking for another queso fundido, the server did not even bother getting a fresh one. I don't understand why I would ask for a better one and then brought a queso fundido that's literally the same temperature. The food came in different temperatures, I understand the past reviews and the vast amount of customers who got food poisoning. The plate calls for cooked plantains, I guess you can consider 2 pieces as plural for more than one when the says "plantain(s)" After ordering a plate for one person, and making the table wait more than what should be acceptable. They go ahead and charge me for a two person plate. All the things considered, after telling them it was for a one person plate so they don't charge me for their mistake. They tell me they will take the plate away and make it a one person plate. Not knowing how long they will take a reluctantly took the plate, I do not doubt the restaurant will try to charge me for this later. On top of that, as I continue to write this review, the service has deteriorated as I made my issues known. Understandably who wants to deal with an annoying customer, however I am 100% confident the pictures below will prove that I am not lying. Even now that I get my bill, they try to charge me for the extra queso fundido that you will find below, the bad lemonade below, and expect me to believe that they deserve a tip. I do not doubt this review will be deleted by the owner so I am prepared to post again and again. Going back to my previous comment on the 2 plate entree, they deny any wrong doing on their part. This is not an establishment you can trust to have a couple drinks and food. They WILL prey on you, hoping you won't notice the extra charges on your bill. After I told them about their mistake with the 2 person plate, they insisted I chose it. Yeah, make someone wait more than they should for their food to arrive and then tell them you're going to take food off their plate because their mistake will be too costly for them. $30 dollar plates for foods at different temperatures, burnt sides and poor service. If you want to waste money and tell yourself, "I'm never coming back here again" this is definitely the place to shop. Any attempt to correct this ill experience was ignored and only delivered failure. Please eat somewhere else, only then will this business learn. read more

All the carne asada was so charred it taste burnt and was dry not juicy at all. The chicken was pathetic it was thin slices and was super dry as well. The queso fundido was the flavor less. The enchiladas were flavorless and not good at all. The only good things were the frijoles charros and the micheladas. Everything else . Disappointing. Never coming back or recommending here.
