Burrito stuffing
Nevil S.

Got takeout from there as we sometimes do. First off, it's fairly overpriced but likely because there's not many competing Mexican places in the area. A lot of the menu items are pretty good for typical comfort food. Unfortunately, their vegetarian selections are not well done at all, as evident in the burrito we ordered earlier (stuffed with white rice and a mere sprinkling of the other more substantive ingredients). Would definitely expect more for this price point, so can't give it more than 2 stars.

Comida muy cara para lo Que nos sirvieron Todo seco sin sabor no nos hubieran recibido la orden si Estaban por cerrar el pollo sobre todo lo mas simple arroz crudo blanco el pollo seco y par de platanos y frejoles secos

Mar y Tierra- grilled flank steak, chicken, and shrimp, 2 eggs, jalapenos, rice and beans. ¡Excelente!

Deeeeelicious! I came here with my family for dinner on a weeknight. With plenty of indoor and outdoor tables, we were seated right away. While the salsa that came with their complimentary chips was thin, it was tasty with a hint of spice and everything else was great! Their menu's vast with something for everyone and most entrees arrive with rice and beans which are excellent on their own. I super enjoyed the grilled shrimp in my Shrimp Enchiladas with Salsa Verde. I just wish they gave a little more sauce. Then their Churros are a must-have, served with vanilla ice cream and dulce de leche/chocolate sauces. My whole family loved our mini fiesta! NOTES/TIPS: **Excellent + friendly service. **Plenty of parking with their lot shared by their shopping plaza. **Right by Cinemark movie theater. A great and convenient choice before or after watching a film.

Excellent, food and even better desserts I highly recommend!!! Showed up at 1:00 on Saturday and were the only people there, I don't know why.

Chicken Stuffed Poblano Peppers & carnitas Nachos

Definitely worth the wait AND by wait, I am not talking about the service! They were fast and efficient. We moved into the area a few months back in April of 22 and have driven past a few times and always talked about trying it out. Well my friends, the time has come and it was absolutely the best decision we made on this lovely Sunday afternoon. For one, being a "To Go" ordering online, everything was correct and made right. Not one thing was missing. The presentation of food was pristine and everything was absolutely delicious. We ordered a half shrimp/half steak burrito, the chicken stuffed poblano appetizer and some carnitas nachos Bomb. Period. Go and eat there and write a great review : )

Really tasty place in Watchung! The free chips and salsa are always so tasty. The ground beef nachos are amazing, huge portions as well. The scallops in the white sea dish are also really good. Very cozy place, plus the service is really great.

Carnitas Bowl, chips and Salsa and Chips!

This is the authentic real deal Mexican food. Nice little place, clean and friendly. I was a little concerned with the pricing but then figured out that Grubhub was up charging all the prices, and I could order a pickup directly from the Mexican Grills website which was reasonable pricing. They said 15 minutes and it was right on time, I ordered the Carnitas bowl and was amazed at the taste and quality and quantity. Let's face it, we are all looking for value during these inflationary times. I was also very happy that warm tortilla chips and warm salsa was included as the website stated, not like the up charge at Chipotle. Highly recommended and I will be back! Keep up the good work! I had previously eaten in the dining room a couple of years ago, but had since moved west to Somerville, so I was in the area and craving authentic Mexican food and remembered this place. The place was great then and is still great now. Give this place a try! You won't be sorry but surprised as this little gem is tucked away in a small strip center in watchung. Easy access through the Movie Theater parking lot (used to be Sears Auto Service back in the day), or right off 22 eastbound right past Terrill Road.

All the avocado looked like this. My daughter threw most of it away before I could get it all.

I'm sorry to give a low rating, because we've enjoyed their food for years. We order from them all the time, and tonight I was treated poorly, and the food wasn't as good as usual. This place was great, and people were friendly, but I feel as though it's gone down hill. The food keeps going up in price, and not as great in quality. Today I ordered a very simple dish of skirt steak chimichurri asado. Now chimichurri is a very distinct condiment. Perhaps my fault for ordering a non-Mexican dish at a Mexican restaurant, but it was no where near a chimichurri sauce. It didn't even match the picture on their website, which is of a green, typical chimichurri sauce. I attached the picture for reference. Now for $26 you get this piece of over cooked meat with some fried yuca and tiny little teeny salad. The sauce it came with was a watery tomato based sauce. No hint of chunkiness or green. It was a spicy red sauce. When I called to ask about it, the girl said that's how they make theirs. I tried to explain that even their picture shows the real stuff, and she continues to say that's how they make it. So why all it a chimichurri???? I understand places take liberty in making a sauce, their own, but this was nowhere near it. It would be like ordering pesto sauce and getting marinara. She then became rude and told me she couldn't waste her time going back and forth with me. She was looking at my name and couldn't say it right. At least if you're going to be condescending, say it right! Hahaha ok I'm kidding there haha This is the last time I drive all that way to spend over $80 for three meals, on Mexican food that isn't even that great anymore. My moms chicken in her chicken Veracruz was dry, and the avocado was six skinny slices of browning avocado for $1.50. The portions of the grill creations meals are small and very expensive. I'd rather head to Plainfield and get super authentic Mexican food for a third of the price and double the portions.

Seriously!!! This place is soooo under rated! The skirt steak was so good the first time and better the second. And that after the enchiladas make it hard to try something new. My daughter loves it so much she makes me come all the time. The staff is awesome and the management truly cares. Don't let the chain restaurant decor fool you. This place is legit!

Vegan Salad

The food from Mexico Grill is delicious. There are tons of vegetarian and vegan options, which are clearly labeled on the menu. We got the avocado bravo appetizer to start. This has a whole avocado (only half the appetizer is pictured because we couldn't wait to dig in) with refried pinto beans and jalapeños toreados. We also got the vegan salad (with black beans, bell peppers, guacamole, grilled onions, tomatoes, cucumbers, and salsa). It was delicious & I love how there are filling vegetarian/vegan salad options. We also got the vegan wrap (has romaine, tomatoes, onions, black beans, pico de Gallo, guac, and peppers). There are tables for dine-in, but we got takeout, which was ready quickly. Can't wait to come back!

This fast-casual restaurant is located in the Watchung Commons Mall on Rte. 22 East, across the road from Blue Star. There is seating and table service for four dozen patrons, as well as takeout and catering available. I had the guacamole with chips ($9.75), and the chicken enchilada with mole sauce ($18.95). The entree included yellow rice, puréed beans, and a couple dollops of sour cream, plus a side salad of shredded lettuce, tomatoes, and onions topped with warm beans and shredded cheese. The portion sizes are enough for two to share. The tortilla chips were homemade, crispy but unseasoned. I like a little salt on my chips. The guacamole was freshly made and chunky, the way I like it, but bland, needing some seasoning as well. The salad was nice, but the warm beans wilted the lettuce, which made it mushy. I'd prefer no beans on the salad, and whole beans in sauce with the entrée, instead of the puréed beans. The mole sauce was tasty, the chicken in the enchilada a little dry. Understanding that this is Americanized Mexican food in a mall restaurant, it's pretty good, and I would go back to sample some other dishes. However, not worth the five star ratings handed out indiscriminately by other yelpers.

Free chips to start

I definitely discount at this place for a while because one it was in a strip mall and 2 the sign just made it appear as if it was another chain fast food restaurant. After some convincing from my husband we finally gave it a try and I was pleasantly surprised. It was an authentic a Mexican spot and the main dishes came with aside salad which was so good. We did go for the entree platters and my only gripe is it is A little pricey for how much you get. But it is really good and I would probably go with something smaller like the smaller plates or tacos which are less expensive next time. I was really feeling skirt steak that night so I just went for it. The staff was attentive and friendly despite the place being full and only a few people working. One big bummer was that they didn't have a changing table in the bathroom... they had high chairs and I saw kids there but I had to use a secluded booth near the bathrooms to change my son. Space wasn't an issue in the bathroom and there was a clear wall too! Please put one in! Maybe it's just me but I typically expect to find a changing table in a place that has high chairs. If there's no high chairs I know I'm taking my chances!

The only dish I don't like is the Mexican Paella- mussels were not good and the calamari was chewy and the overall dish was very very heavy with butter.

I'm giving this a three to be generous- it's not as bad as a 2 but not quite a three - I rounded…read moreup. First, the good - the decor and ambiance is great. The bathroom - very clean. My chicken breast was good (everything else on the plate was bland), and my daughter's green enchiladas were ok. My husband's birria quesadilla was very good according to him and my daughter. The service was awful! The waitress handed us iPad menus and never said to order on the tablet or if she was going to come back for our order. The menu is not extensive, just fyi. You can only get taco platters with all the same taco meat, not a variety. The enchiladas are also only 1 way for all three on the plate. Whatever...I can deal with that, if the food was great. It's not. The black beans were room temp with no seasoning, the corn on the cob - no salt, no butter. The guac was also bland. We were never offered water refills and she never asked us if we wanted a drink until after our meals came. We didn't, but it was said with a huge sigh and eye-roll. As a side note, this was a grown woman waiting on us, like an abuela, not a teenager. She never came back to our table, until she saw another waitress come over and bring us boxes for leftovers - that we had to go to the bar to ask for. Oh, important point - the restaurant was not busy, so she was not in the weeds. The restaurant could be an amazing spot if the service was better and they seasoned the food. It is NOT worth the money.
