I love the chicken tortilla soup and no matter the temperature it's the best choice. Their queso is good, the servers are amazing, and the decor is beautiful. As a white guy who speaks Spanish, I do find it a bit sad that the majority of waiters/waitresses I've talked to don't speak Spanish. I've been going since they opened and their staff has gone from Spanish-speaking/bilingual to almost just English-only. Tequila21 if you're hiring, I'm available...

Clean, comfortable restaurant, nice background music, and the food, excellent! I had their Cheesesteak burrito, watch out Philly! Grilled steak, sautéed onions and peppers, wrapped with refried beans and awesome cheese, 2 just right sized burritos covered in a smooth, melted white cheese and pico sauce. Served with, get this, nice crispy waffle fries! Ate one burrito, all the fries and took home the second one, younger days I would have scarfed both! Two Margaritas were enjoyed, my other family members really liked their meals as well. Definitely great food, talented bartender, attentive server and overall, well worth the visit to Cocoa from Merritt Island. Will be back!

I only gave this restaurant 4 stars because our server, Jonathan, was respectful, attentive, and…read moreprovided great service throughout our meal. The restaurant itself looked the part and so did the food. ..The atmosphere and presentation of the food were exactly what you'd expect from an authentic Mexican restaurant....Unfortunately, the flavor just wasn't there. We ordered the ceviche..it was lazily slapped together..let's say it's "rustic" style it had about 1oz of tomatoes and a 1/4 of red onion with 3 colossal shrimp cut into chunks in it and a half of avocado for $13. We ordered two kids' enchiladas with rice and beans, a kids' quesadilla, an order of flautas, and a horchata. While everything looked great, almost every dish lacked seasoning and depth of flavor. Ironically, the most flavorful thing we had was the salsa but it came in such a tiny bowl that it was gone after literally four chips. It was about the size of just over a ketchup cup, which wasn't nearly enough for the basket of chips. The horchata was also disappointing. It tasted more like watered-down milk than the rich, cinnamon-flavored drink i was expecting. If you're looking for authentic, bold hispanic flavors, this may leave you disappointed. However, if you're looking for a more diluted, americanized mexican restaurant, this may be exactly what you're looking for. Jonathan's excellent service is the reason this review received 4 stars instead of fewer.

We tried La Catrina in Cocoa Beach and unfortunately it was pretty disappointing. The portion sizes…read morewere definitely massive, but the flavor was really lacking. Rahul ordered the California burrito and I ordered La Comadre, which came with 1 bean burrito, 1 enchilada, 1 veggie quesadilla, and veggies/rice on the side. The amount of food was a lot, but the execution just wasn't there. The California burrito was open on both sides, so it was basically impossible to pick up and eat like an actual burrito. My enchilada and bean burrito came out room temperature, and the shredded cheese on the enchilada was completely unmelted. The enchilada sauce was probably the biggest miss for me, it tasted really unfresh and mostly just like canned tomatoes. Service also wasn't great. They do have a nice patio area, which was one of the reasons we wanted to try it, but our server never really checked on us. We had to go inside to ask for my food to be rewarmed and then go inside again to ask for the check. Overall, the portions are huge and the patio is cute, but I wouldn't return based on the food or service.

Went to try a new restaurant. Being Tuesday, we chose Mexican. Taco Tuesday. Located in a strip…read moremall, it can be easily overlooked. Unimpressive from the outside. Inside, we were immediately, warmly greeted and seated. Simple decor. The booths looked hand-carved as we have seen made in Mexico. Pleasant and artistic. Not overdone. We both got the Taco Special. $3 each. Chips & salsa arrived. The salsa was unusual. Made on site. The tomatoes and ingredients were smoked and grilled. Greenish in color, it was beyond delicious with a slight smoky flavor. Never had anything like it. Flavorful and not hot spicy. We also ordered Queso which was also delicious and just the right temperature and consistency. The soft corn tacos arrived. They seemed small although completely filled with pork, chicken, beef, cilantro, and veggies. Delicious. Great flavor. Every bite. The plates were beautiful and looked like they were handmade. Add a cold Mexican Larger in a mug and it was a perfect lunch. The service was excellent. Attentive but not intrusive. Polite. Mannered. We will be back to this local family owned restaurant for sure. I highly recommend this place. We are looking forward to trying "Happy Hour" with $3 margaritas served in beer mugs.

We have a friend…read morewho raves about this place, but hasn't made the same selections as we have, so maybe it's just about choices. I'll give you our short list of hits and misses. Mostly Hits *Magic Chicken was good - if you're a local, El Tucan served a slightly better/fresher version of this dish. Still very good and happy to know where to find it locally. *Birria Tacos were good. Less salty than some of the ones we've had on the island, but less flavorful than some too. Right down the middle. *Service makes both lists since we had 2 and they were polar opposites of one another for us on our last visit. Definite Misses *Salsa was meh. Asked for their spicy salsa next and it was also meh. Not horrible, just ok. Chips were firm and less salty than we like. *Margarita...was not a margarita. It was 90% sour mix and a maybe a splash of something. It wasn't on the menu. When asked, we got a weird non-committal response on it from the server and we pretty much got what we expected when a Mountain Dew looking drink arrived in a beer mug with a straw. Might've been a premixed margarita or one of those malt liquor ones (like the cheap Fireball ones). *Service was spotty. We'll probably go back at some point and try some friend recommendations when we do - fingers crossed. We weren't upset with anything we tried, but we weren't wowed either. Lots of local choices to consider....
