Soft chicken Taco al pastor: Nice addition of sweet pineapple to the pork taco! Taco chorizo: Drier, and crumbly pieces; spiciest of them all. We got take away tacos from here the other day. The meat and sauce were really yummy! I LOVED the decor. It would be really fun to visit after covid and have some margaritas there. The tortillas tasted homemade and I was really impressed with the flavour. I would love more options to put on the tacos. It comes with a pico de gallo but it's mainly raw onions so I don't love it. It would be great to have salsa and sour cream or something but maybe that's just an American thing. I'll be going back for sure their the Baja fish tacos! They are small but yummy! read more

I thought this place was a hidden gem but apparently pretty well known to bunch of my Instagram friends! My husband and I ordered plantains, grilled fish tacos, steak tacos, burrito, ceviche (it was amazing!!) and a sangria- all was perfect and we paid under CAD$70 including gratuity. Everything we had was simple but flavorful, nothing was overdone. Service was friendly- our server even told us be used to be a regular at the restaurant and asked for a job there because he loved the food so much. How cute is that?! Ordered take out. The bottom of the Tacos de Suadero was swimming in grease. The taco shell was soggy from the excessive grease. The Tacos de Cochinita Pibil was tasty but also had a lot of grease in the bottom of the container but not as much as the beef. Burrito de Tinga was a little lacking in flavour. One hungry person will need at least two orders of tacos plus a side to fill them up. Service was ok but seemed a bit disinterested. The churro was very very good. I recommend for desert. That was probably the dish that stood out the most. The venue itself is nicely designed and a cool hangout spot. I'm happy to have a place like this in the neighbourhood especially because there are not a ton of sit down Mexican restaurants in the east end. They definitely fill a niche. I'm happy restaurants are trying with COVID, at the same time I wonder if the quality is suffering. My order was prepared within 15 minutes which is great. I ordered the tacos, nachos and churros and a burrito, I was not alone lol the inside was very Mexican and on a bus tiling busy street you wouldn't think that. Let's start with dessert. The churros had a great crunch and it was almost perfect, however the centre was very doughy - almost raw. I have had churros that are really light and it kinda melts. The caramel sauce was really good. The tacos were a bit of a slap in the face. I've had tacos everywhere and I make tacos. I got 2 very tiny tacos with a little bit of beef and it was very very unsatisfying. I can't believe I was served those tacos from a mexican restaurant. The nachos were pretty good. Walked in to get a chicken burrito for takeout. Costed over $17 so I figured it would be the best chicken burrito of my life because it's sure the most expensive burrito that I ever bought. I also need to mention no tomatoes or lettuce was available as toppings. Cheese was extra. For that price I thought maybe it comes with tortilla chips or something. Or maybe it will be massive. Was told it would take about 10 minutes to make These guys took nearly half an hour to bring it out. Not small but not large either and no chips on the side ($17?) The taste was mediocre. The meat was very dry and tough and I thought to myself this chicken sucks and then I realize looking closer holy shit this is beef. I don't eat beef and I asked for chicken. Are you craving authentic Mexican food? Are you the type who would drive however far to fulfill your cravings? Before you jump into your car and make a trek to Scarborough south after reading the overall reviews... you have to ask yourself is it worth it? I've made that trip myself and honestly it's not worth it. First off the bar-like place is situated in a pretty sketchy part of Scarborough. How do you know? The No Frills across the street actually has a security guard permanently stationed at the door. I've never ever been to a supermarket with a security guard out front (Walmart greeters doesn't count). Although the place is operated by latinos I really don't get the sense that it's authentic Mexican. First off the food was generally bland. I don't think that's a word that's is typically used to describe Mexican food. I had the quesadilla de picadillo and I'm aware that it's supposed to have a beef in a tomato stew filling. But when I opened my take out box in my car it was an quesadilla island sitting in midst of a teeny tiny pond of soup. The consistency and taste reminded me a bit of a toned down version of Campbell's alphabet tomato soup. I guess the stew was too runny and they didn't put enough cheese in it to make everything stick. The quesadilla was bland. The other thing I got was the tacos de carnitas. The pork was slightly overcooked and again bland. There are definitely better Mexican options in town. Driving a bit further south to downtown or you can go the opposite way to Vaughan, I promise you your journey will be a lot more satisfying. read more

It's hard to find good quality Mexican food in Toronto. It's even harder to find a place that isn't downtown. Well thankfully a good friend mentioned this place had moved and was now in the east end. Blink and you might miss it but it's on the corner of Victoria Park and St Clair (right across the No Frills). It's small inside but they pack in a lot of tables. Went on a Friday night and the place was jumping jumping. As the night wore on it just got busier (apparently around 8-9pm there is a show Friday nights). We were finished eating by that time and stayed a bit to see if started but we ended up leaving as we didn't want to hog the table when others needed it. I wasn't super hungry so I ordered the beer battered shrimp tacos and the baha fish tacos (you get 2 of each). They were delicious. No greasy, not bland, just delicious. The owners/staff are from what I have heard are Mexican. So they know what they are cooking. The atmosphere is lively, the service is friendly and the food is GREAT. I really appreciate that their platters are two tacos each which was more budget friendly for us while giving us more flexibility in ordering other menu items. Our favorites were the fish cerviche tostada (fresh and flavorful), tinga (deliciously smoky and spicy) and deep fried ice cream (delightful flavors and textures). Tortillas are not made in house but are made fresh and delivered daily. The owners and cooks are all from Mexico City. Family run: dad is head chef, mom is hostess and waits tables, and their son is the bartender. If you want to know anything about Mexican culture ask the cool bartender, Alex, who also happens to be a fellow Yelper! We had an engaging talk about the biopic Selena (played brilliantly by Jennifer Lopez), Lucha Libre wrestling, the origins of chocolate and vanilla, all the while listening to lively Cumbia music. I really had high hopes for this place after seeing reviews and all the hype surrounding it during Cinco de Mayo. Unfortunately it was a dud for me. Ordered uber eats on a Friday night and the order came fairly quickly. The corn looked a bit unappetizing at first, but this was the only highlight of the meal. It was nice and creamy, and I couldn't get enough. The tacos itself were very tiny, and the quality of meat seemed to be lacking. Also zero flavour even with the salsas provided. The burrito also was lackluster, but a great portion. I love tres leches cake, but theirs was not made in house, and also was bland and not very soft or milky. So I ordered the ceviche ... by the reviews this spot was apparently the closest decent Mexican restaurant to my Scarborough location . The parking was tricky no street parking and I illegally parked just to get there . The food was not ready when I arrived as it "doesn't need to be cooked" . Then I payed 16 bucks (including a small tip, as I always tip even on take out) ... I get the most disappointing ceviche of my life. 1) the shrimps where whole and not even diced 2) there were 2 slivers of avacado I could barely recognize as avocados but knew that was what they were supposed to be . 3) minimal chips as the vessel to deliver the subpar ceviche .... For me not only will the 20 minute drive to this place never happen again, I just wanted others to be aware of the sub par food served as well as service . My go to Mexican eat-in restaurant. Nice and cozy. We ordered the following: 1. Carne Asada Platter. 8/10. Plate was a good portion for one person, definitely if you are hungry. Comes with marinated grilled beef topped with a jalepeno, side of grilled onion, beans, guac & 5 corn tortillas. The beef, I wish was cooked a bit more rare. It was a bit tough to cut through. 2. A somewhat limited review since I came in during a work lunch break (no drinks) and I went for the fajita platter (Texmex) rather than possibly more authentic Mexican items on the menu. Though the fajita platter is fairly straightforward and hard to screw up, I have to say that the meat had better seasoning on it (likely pre-marinated) than other places I've had it at. The veggies and onions also likely had prep in advance, as they were more slow cooked and deliciously caramelised than other places as well. I went with the steak which was pretty good quality, and the two others I was with went for the chicken which was a platter for two. A tip that the platter for two will save you a few bucks rather than ordering two fajita entrees separately. Another positive aspect was having authentic and spicy salsas compared to Pace-type chunky salsas. Not much else to report on, but we also shared the churros. Since we were sharing, they offered to prepare them in smaller 6 pieces rather than the 2 long ones which was a nice gesture (easier to split with 3 people). They also did bill splitting with no issue, which included the single churro order 3 ways, and splitting the fajitas for 2 on two separate bills. So far, so good, and looking forward to trying other things. read more

AMAZING TACOS!!! I love Mexican food, so when we passed this location on VP one evening, my boyfriend and I decided to try it out on a whim. It was a Tuesday evening and the place was not busy at all. The place is decorated with modest but cute decorations. The washroom downstairs is clean and has the coolest sinks (see picture). I ordered the beer-battered fish taco option that was a little pricier for only one taco, as well as the grilled fish taco option that came with two for a lesser price. All were so amazing; just spot on with the authentic flavours and perfect cook. The servers are super smiley and knowledgeable about the menu. If I were to describe MEXITACO in two words: SPICE OVERLOAD I love tacos and usually don't mind a bit of spice, but I found that the taco spices here were too overwhelming--almost to the extent where every taco I tried tasted like the same slurry of flavours. Don't get me wrong, it didn't taste bad (I enjoyed it), but it lacked variety to fully please my flavour palate. Like the tacos, the guacamole also tasted like salt and a jumble of different spices. If it wasn't green, I wouldn't have even known that there was avocado in it! As for service, it was decent. Ordering was no problem and food came fast, but no one was refilling water and asking for the bill required a bit of effort. Overall, decent restaurant, but will not be my go-to for tacos. read more

This is by far the most basic tacos with such a pricey price. The chicken one was subpar.. It was bland and lack of flavours. We were still hungry after but I mean, after trying their tacos, nothing else here made us want to order more. Definitely not affordable when it comes to food here! Drink selection is good tho. Go to Mexican spot, just wish there was one closer to me but I always try to stop by when I'm in the areas Been here a few times and always recommend to friends and when I've went with them, all had positive experiences. They don't skimp on the size and their tortilla chips / salsas come with a lot of dishes and are great. The camarones al pastor (marinated shrimp) has to be the best preparation of shrimp I've ever had. Ceviche cocktail is a go to as well. Strawberry daiquiri if you're in for a drink. It doesn't look like much from the outside and there's not much in terms of parking (though some street parking is available), but this is seriously the best Mexican food we've found anywhere in the GTA! Which is amazing because tacos have been a pregnancy craving of mine, and before finding this place, there was nowhere I could convince hubby to go consistently. Now he asks to come here. We both get the chicken tinga quesadillas (comes with a side of fresh crema) and the Baja fish taco. At first, we were annoyed that there's an upcharge for cheese and guac, which makes it a pretty expensive single taco. However, it is huge! Almost double the size of tacos from some competitors, and the fish is brought in fresh. We're full after a quesadilla and one taco, maybe a churro. When you sit down, they also bring over a little caddy of limes and salsas. They have a nice selection of Mexican sodas too. Cannot speak to the alcohol situation due to pregnancy, but they have a full bar.
