Not the best Mexican food in town, but it'll satisfy your craving if you have one. The birria is pretty good, probably the best thing on the menu. The shrimp and fish tacos are also good. They have live music some days which is cool, and they really put on a show when you let them know it's someone's birthday - they come out with a sombrero for the celebrant to wear and make a lot of noise with a matraca. I will say, this spot is GREAT for big groups - they're able to accommodate in the back part of the restaurant, do separate bills, and everything. We were there on a Saturday nite and there was live entertainment which was so fun. The service was quick but after our food was served the wait staff never came back to check on us. They didn't have off the top recommendations for us about the food, but did let us know the fries were good, and I agree. The fries were actually my favourite part of the meal. The plantain used for the fried plantain was a little unripe, and not sweet, I think they could have been a little more creative with the sauce, and put something together that wasn't sour cream. We had the baja fish tacos, which I thought was sitting on some really delicious stuff, but the fish it's self was about 3cm in length at most and about 1 cm wide... smaller than my pinky I would say. I would expect that they could serve a piece of fish that was fresh, and not a fish stick out of a box. The wings had standard hot sauce and the honey garlic was the low quality corn syrup sauce that comes from a bottle, it was thick and and tasted sweet without any garlic. Came here on a Sunday evening after seeing yummy pics from my friends who recently visited. Located smack on the intersection of Birchmount/ Ellesmere; small parking lot at rear. It's quite spacious but a little empty on a Sunday night, which sometimes raised a concern to me. They have live music playing so its quite hard to hear what the servers were saying and ordering your food without yelling. We ordered quesabirria, fish taco, and camarones a la diabla. A little disappointed on each dish. Fish fillet was seared nicely on the taco but flavours were lacking in both quesabirria and the fish taco. The camarones a la diabla was served on a skillet (that's not really hot) with thickly cut chips on the side for dipping. Imagine a shrimp salsa with a freak ton of heat, and there's the dish! It was soooooooooooooo spicy... as if they just say screw it and dumped a whole bunch of jalapeno seeds in the sauce. Service was lacking, definitely need to improve... Ordered hot water as drinks, never came until we asked the 2nd times and cold water was brought to us instead. Asked for the bill and take-out box, waited almost 20 mins for it on a non-busy night. Definitely not worth the price for what you getting. Almost $15-17 per dish. The only price that was ok decent was the taco as you get 2 tacos for roughly $8. read more

I tried the new location of Mexitaco in Scarborough and enjoyed it overall. The staff were friendly. The ambiance was a bit low but I went late at night. It was hard to review this place but gave it a 4 star. It is more like a 3.75. I am Mexican so enjoy authentic food. The Tacos de Tinga had good flavour but strange texture. The Tacos de Carna Asada were very good but light on the beef. Overall tacos were very small. I also ordered the Bean and Cheese Quesadilla which was yummy. There were only 2 staff when we went on a Saturday afternoon, but service was efficient, fast and friendly. Food: Excellent! We ordered shrimp tacos and al pastor pork tacos. Their tacos are always solid and a must- get! Also tried the Machete de Carne Asada for the first time and we really liked it. It's a longer, lightly fried tortilla, with the meat inside and the onions on the outside. Really yummy! Lastly we got the Arrachera Platter, which is a flank steak with beans, grilled jalapeño , guacamole and 5 tortillas. Ohhhh weeee that grilled jalapeño is a nice touch to the dish! I want it on everything! Would order all of these again and can't wait to go back and try other items on their menu! If you like Mango Mojitos, theirs do not disappoint. Went here for lunch recently. I wish I could like this place, but it was pretty bad. There was a leak in the roof and there were buckets collecting water here and there. I can understand this is probably a temporary issue, but the place didnt' feel very clean. Had the nachos but they were quite stale and pricey for what you get. This is definitely my favourite Mexican spot in all of Toronto. The baja fish tacos are delicious and so is the chicken tinga quesadilla. They are now serving an authentic Mexican brunch as well. Service is usually pretty fast and friendly. There are now 3 locations. The Cantina sometimes has a band or karaoke, which is fun, but it makes it hard to have a conversation if that's what you're going for. read more

Easily one of the best Mexican restaurants in the GTA. Menu is terrific and the food is even better. Definitely try one (or all) of their Birria items. Ceviche is fantastic as well. Nachos chips are one the smaller side than most places but they're arguably the perfect size for snacking. Be sure to stop by on Fridays and Saturdays for an awesome live show. I've been here a few times and it was great. Weusually get the birria and the baja tacos but unfortunately tonight's experience did not go well. We ordered 3 orders of the baja tacos; only 1 out of the 3 turned out fine. One of the tacos my friend pulled out a piece of metal from his mouth after taking a bite. The third time we ordered the baja tacos, the moment the server put the board down, we noticed a strand of hair. The server did immediately take it back and brought back fresh one. I'm honestly disappointed because the other times I've here, we had no issues with the food. Other items we ordered tonight were the birria tacos, carne asada quesadillas and beef tacos; those turned out great! In the end, the restaurant didn't charge us for the two orders. It is a bit smaller size... Habanero Short Ribs-$19- Blend of habanero sauce, lime, garlic butter topped with cilantro garnish... - This tasted very tangy and sour like...The short ribs were not that meaty I recall. A bit of a spice kick, but definitely the tangyness was very over powering. Camarones A La Diabla-$17: Same flavour profile like the habanero short ribs which made it less appetizing...The shrimp were quite small size and had a 'gummy' texture...Its definitely frozen and possibly overcooked...This one we did not enjoy at all. Tacos De Chorizo-$7.50: Comes with two tacos...This had a nice taste to it. Tacos De Pescado Asado--$7.50: Two tacos marinated white fish..The common ingredients are onion, cilantro, chopped tomatoes for most tacos...This was one of their better tacos... Ambiance was lacking, washrooms were disgusting. The music was so loud that you really had to shout to be heard. The entire place felt unclean and dingy. The restaurant itself is located at the corner of very busy intersection, so it's difficult to get to if you are heading south on Birchmount. I came here for a birthday party a few weeks ago and liked the food. There are good options for vegetarians and a few things that can be modified to be vegan as well. They also have really entertaining live cultural performances some nights. Even though there are so many wonderful things on the menu, I have to say that my favourite is the Soupa Azteca. I've ordered to go a few times since then. It's easy enough to make at home, but these guys just make a really tasty version with the fresh tortilla chips. It's mild though, so if you were hoping for a more spicy version, you'd have to add some hot sauce to it. read more

We came to this restaurant as vacationers from the states, and we're recommend this resturant by our gracious AirBnB host. It was not busy on a weeknight and seated quickly. Expansive menu, but to my dismay, no taco salad! The food came out at an average pace, and it was very tasteful and filling. We enjoyed multiple types of quesildillas and tacos, however they were small portions, and I suggest sharing 3 meals between two people. We decided to sample both the churros and dessert burrito, we found the churros enjoyable, but crunchy, and the burrio was also tasty. Service was unfortunately slow, drinks were not refilled, and we had to ask for our bill. The highlight was the great band of talented musicians, they were was enjoyable to listen to at a reasonable time of 7 pm. read more

Love coming here! You can never go wrong with coming here because there is something different to have each time. My favourite thing I've had the past few times I've come here are the Tacos de Birria. I definitely recommend coming with a group because food is pretty easy to share. There is also some entertainment Friday-Sunday; you just need to check on their website or Instagram what is going on. I've gone on a Friday and the live music and dance were great! read more

I've visited a few times now but my most recent experience is... very disappointing and honestly disgusting. I ordered a flautas de pollo, and 2 orders of baja fish taco. The flautas de pollo had a large chicken bone, which i informed the server of and he told me it was expected but offered to change the order, so i changed it to a different menu item. Then, the baja fish taco had a rusted staple in it... WTF. I informed a different server that I just ate an item with a chicken bone in it that I could've choked on and then I eat a fish taco that has a rusted staple in it. They apologized and took the order away but never returned with an explanation. My friend also ordered a baja fish taco and the second they set the order down we saw a hair in it. They apologized, took it away, and brought it back a few minutes later (honestly it looked like the same order). Aside from this.. the washroom was so dirty, the soap dispenser was missing a freaking spout so you couldn't even properly dispense soap. So gross. Please do better. read more
