This rating is for the lunch buffet only. It should really be 3.5 stars, but the service was pretty good so I rounded up. First off, I would like to say that all the food was delicious. I went with 4 other people and they all loved ALL the preparations. The naan was delivered fresh to the table and the Biriyani was perfectly cooked as always. On that particular day they had... Mini salad station, French Fries, Daal (5/5), Okra (5/5), Paneer (5/5, very soft!) Tandoori Chicken (3/5), Chicken Biriyani (5/5, their best dish), Achari (Pickle) Chicken Curry (4.5/5)...Some other chicken Curry (4.5/5)...see a pattern here? Our biggest complaint was the lack of variety in the meat. They all tasted delicious, but I wanted some high cholesterol, plaque forming, red meat, damn it. I get that other meats are more expensive, but come on! Even an egg curry would have broken the monotony. Also disappointing was the appetizers. I don't know about you, but Pakistani food is synonymous with Biriyani and kabobs for me. I would have even settled for chicken kabobs. If Mezbaan is going to make a proper impact on the lunch hour scene, they need to up their game. read more

Just so you don't have to read through the whole review to get to the good part- I had the chicken roganjosh and the boti Kabab salan.. omg both were so juicy and great flavor! Not too many strange spices, not too creamy, not too salty but just the right taste! The restaurant is beautiful and authentic. Not too big and not too small. We had a professional group event there, and the owner let the organizers decorate it very nicely. She was so gracious in our use of the restaurant. From the look of it I knew the dishes I selected from the buffet were going to be fantastic. I am Pakistani so I know good food when I have it lol. Whenever we go out we are disappointed- outside food is never as good as the food at home but we keep trying to find good dishes outside. The owner is Indian so I believe the dishes are more in Indian style which we have been looking for for a long time! We actually have tried 2 Indian restaurants within the last few weeks, one down the street in Piscataway, and One in North Brunswick, and they were both highly disappointing- too many strange flavors (we love spicy food but not too many strange spices and creams etc). read more

First there is a nasty staunch welcomes you in the so called Restaurant, If you are running a food place please keep it clean and free of Odors other than Food. Secondly they have my award in messing up Biryani. They have a never to call stale, under cooked, pan fried oil rice with over load of food colors with no Masala and 3 small pieces of chicken ... A Hyderabadi Biryani. My only problem with these yo-yo places is that if you don't know something please don't insult the authentic cuisine. Also the Achari Chicken Kabab was OK. The Chicken Pakora Appetizer was definitely not edible. If they don't fix their food they are sure to go down. read more

So my husband and I tried this place a few times now but I think this will be the last time. We have never sat in to eat but always do pick up...as its always a ghost town when you go in with no customers. They never have lamb chops and beef bihari available;that my husbads favorite and he always asks for it so why is it on the menu then if they never have it? The food is inconsistent, food is expensive but they give you very little portions, and we got a few soft drink cans which had black dirt all around the ring where you would drink from! That tells you they dnt have enough customers and things just sit there! Who knows how long the meat sits there because the chicken karhai and kababs were rubbery and definitely not fresh! the Pakistani Halal lunch buffet is a pretty good deal for around $8. mostly quite spicy chicken or vegetarian dishes, a couple things with beef. i am not much into beef. I liked the chicken abd veggie stuff. they have a big TV which had Al Jazeera English on, I liked that, ingesting some truly intellectual programming with my meal. the lady working when I came seemed friendly and eager to help.. healthy nutritious tasty food at a good price read more

If I was able to leave 0 stars I would. When my family and I first came in, the restaurant was completely empty on a Saturday afternoon, which was very odd to us. Anyways, we placed an order for 2 mix grills, 4 pieces of chicken seekh kebabs, 1 butter chicken, chicken nuggets, 8 garlic naans, and 1 regular naan. The food took a good 20 minutes to come which we were unhappy about. When the first mix grill came, the waitress gave us a small salad on a small styrofoam plate and some green sauce which we passed around. When the garlic naans came, I was shocked to see no garlic on the naan like we ordered, but instead GARLIC POWDER. Can you believe that? Never in my life was I served garlic naan with garlic powder. Even the frozen ones I buy from time to time from the indian grocery store uses fresh garlic. Additionally, some of the chicken on the mix grill was dry and tough. Other than that, the food was alright but the portion size was small, nothing special for me to come back. When we went to pay, to our amazement, they charged us $6 for the SMALL SALAD on the styrofoam plate that we DIDN'T EVEN ORDER. The total came out to $100 somehow. I don't know how it came out to that amount. The only thing I can think of is that they included a 15% or 20% gratuity charge that we weren't informed about. I had a terrible experience here. First of all the place is eerily empty and there is no music or anything to help the atmosphere. The menu also does not give any description of the items, and when we asked about them the waitstaff was extremely unhelpful with recommendations. Then, when our food was brought out the waitress told us to go to the corner to grab plastic plates, forks, knives and napkins ourselves, something which she could have easily done because there was no one else in the restaurant. There were chicken bone splinters in our food, which made eating dangerous and awkward. And finally, everything was extremely expensive, we paid 36 dollars for two meals and one soda, and left still hungry because so much of our food was inedible. read more

I'm definitely adding this place to the blacklist. We went a little bit after noon -- prime lunch time. There were no customers and yet no utensils, no naan and no napkins. The food selection was poor and of little quantity -- no exactly what you expect at a buffet. There were barely enough plates for the 5 of us. The food was decent enough, but ultimately average. I discovered Mezbaan by accident... I received a flyer while grocery shopping. I had been looking for a decent Indian place, that serves "proper" Indian food. I have checked out a few restaurants but found some have untrained staff, others serve microwaved food and most importantly, many have western versions of Indian dishes. There are a few vegetarian places, which are good, but are on the pricier side. With not too high hopes, I thought of giving Mezbaan a try. I went on weekend for lunch buffet and was in for a surprise: the place was clean, welcoming and the decor was simple but elegant. The weekend menu was advertised for $9.99. They had both vegetarian and non-vegetarian appetizers. I particularly liked their chicken bihari kabab... medium spicy and with soft grilled chicken pieces. Their vegetarian curry options were Paneer (cottage cheese) Kadahi, and Alu Matar (potatoes & peas curry)... both of them were reasonably good. The chicken biryani (rice with light spices) was tasty... just get some raita (yogurt sauce) to compliment it. They had several chicken dishes, my favorite was chicken Korma. The desserts were awesome... I had tried the Kheer (rice pudding) before, but this one was just better. The carrot dessert (the name skips me) was something very unique... that texture of carrots blended with milk, nuts and raisins and slowly cooked was exquisite. I have more respect for carrots now ;-) At some point, someone who looked like the manager/owner, came to check on us to make sure we were having a good experience. He said that they prefer to use traditional recipes s to keep the food authentic, but also have other curries that are less spicy (e.g. butter chicken). I told him that I was just enjoying the food, as it was rich in taste but not crazy spicy. The service was quite warm and welcoming. They served the Naan bread on the table and the waiter kept checking to make sure that I was taken care off. In all fairness, this is really a 4.5 star rating. Their salad bar could be improved. I think that this place is a great find and I hope to be back there soon. Because they are a new business, their prices are extremely competitive. read more

I have been in the area for over 5 years and thought of giving Mezbaan a try again. Ordered chicken galouti kebab and butter chicken to go. Would rate the chicken galouti kebab -1 out of 5, the owner gave an extra kebab (3 instead of 3), unfortunately had to throw the box away after the first bite. It was undercooked, stale and no where close to a galouti kebab. Butter chicken was different than chicken tikka masala, which is a good sign as most places serve CTM when you order butter chicken. The chicken pieces in the chicken were undercooked. The gravy was decent. Don't think I'll be visiting anytime soon again. read more

I went there as they have a $5 - $8 platter on the menu. Unfortunately, the platter is available only for takeout. We tried the platter. The Chick Peas were good, Daal a little more sour than normal, quite good naan and excellent rice. The Bhindi Masala (Okra and Onion) veg was a bit soggy and slimy, could have used a bit more cooking and better spice level. The platter is served in a 3 compartment container and the rice compartment is half the platter. There are no condiments, napkin or a fork packed. No problem, just FYI. It took a long while too to get the platters. There was more takeout activity than sit in dining. Not bad food but not spectacular, either. read more

I tried this place for lunch for the first time today and will definitely come back! It was delicious. I had the lunch special to go- chicken curries with rice and naan. I also tried two of their Indian sweets for dessert which were heavenly. The service was excellent. A gentleman named Zia who works there was very friendly, organized, helpful and informative about the menu items. Good atmosphere, not noisy or over packed for being on a main road. Complimentary tea as well. I'm happy I stopped in this place and would recommend the food to others. read more

The manager is stingy with giving you sauce when you take out food. It is ridiculous ! 1.99 for garlic naan you are a robber. Give a salad or something as an appetizer like other halal places do. i ordered to go around noon time. i ordered goat karahi and 3 naans. when i went to pick it up, he said it was ready but then went in the back to prepare it. he didnt notice but it was obvious that he was microwaving everything. even the naan. let alone the goat karahi. i was in shock that he warmed my naans and gave them to me. when i got home, you could clearly tell they werent fresh and hard to eat. goat tasted okay, but i dont think ill ever go back. read more
