While four lanes of Highway 1 blaze straight southwest towards Trenton in an endless sea of strip malls and gas stations, smaller and parallel Route 27 meanders a less direct path through slightly kinder lands of strip malls and gas stations. The more important thing to note in this area though is the abundance of restaurants that grace the side of Route 27, especially those of a South Asian bent. In a very ugly building veneered with beige-painted bricks lives Supreme, which advertises Indian and Pakastani on a neon sign and Bangladeshi as well on the menu. Regardless, it's all halal, and quite good. My largest point of contention was the lack of patience they seem to have, regardless of the fact that it was not busy after 2pm on a weekday. The main attraction for non-south Asians seems to be the buffet, and as our group looked through the menu we had to repeatedly decline the proprietor's offer. He seemed unaccustomed to selling anything but this to customers like us, and came off as pushy, hawking goods that were past their prime in mid-afternoon. Thankfully we all picked made to order items from the tandoor, like the hariyali kabab ($8) and beef bihari kabab ($5) Like all items, they were complemented well with a fresh piece of naan ($1.25). We found all the meats a bit on the dry side, especially the bihari, but the hariyari which is laced with coriander and hara dhania spices was quite delicious enough to overcome this. The grand daddy of the kabab section of the menu is obviously the supreme kabab platter ($9.99), which is a combination of three chicken varieties, and far too much meat for one person alone to eat. With the thriving region of tech and pharmaceutical companies in this area of New Jersey, a sophisticated and dedicated south Asian cuisine seems to have arisen. For this New Yorker, the surface has only been scratched..

    Supreme Halal Lunch Buffet

Today's lunch buffet was superb: Goat Biryani, Chicken Tikka Masala, Kebabs, Goat curry, Okra, Spinach, Haleem, Chicken curry, Lentils, Hot Naan, salad, dessert, etc. And if you request, you could even get a free cup of hot tea. The small restaurant provides the best value for money in the area. And if your wife is not cooking then just come to this place to have sumptuous and delicious lunch, all for just $8.99 - What a deal! Instead of going to fancy restaurants, I have seen multi-millionaires who own private jets frequent this place not only for casual lunches but also to place orders for their lavish private parties at home. Over the years they have maintained to serve great quality halal food with consistent taste, all because the owner himself is a chef.

Wow - I would say one of the best bang for your buck. Each entree was about $10. Tip: pay in cash for discount!

I ordered the Gulberg Special Chicken Karahi, some naan, and a Beef Bihari Roll. The biggest disappointment was the karahi. It didn't really taste like a traditional karahi and felt more like a chicken salan served in a karahi dish. I've had this exact item here before, and it was fantastic, so I know the kitchen is capable of much better. The Beef Bihari Roll, on the other hand, was delicious. My only suggestion would be to improve the presentation a bit. Adding some fries or a side would make the plate feel more complete and visually appealing. When we mentioned the karahi to our server, he handled it very professionally. He immediately offered to have a fresh one made, which was appreciated. By that point, the kids were getting restless, so we decided not to wait. He was also kind enough to adjust our bill, which was a very nice gesture and showed great customer service. Overall, while the karahi missed the mark this time, the staff made up for it with their attentiveness and willingness to make things right. Everyone has an off night, especially with two big events going on. I'd definitely come back and give it another shot.

Pluses: Very clean; Staff is professional; spacious and during Covid time nice outside seating. I also felt the staff was considerate in making sure you get seated. For a family event this would be a great place to have lunch or dinner. Menu is pretty elaborate as well. Deltas: The food though true in texture, does not have the right amount of spice. I felt the food was cooked well, presented well but spice level was low. 1/2 point extra for the poster of a Hydrant in the men's bathroom. Classic
