We came in the afternoon to check out this new spot in town. There were two workers making our meals; one seem tired and depressed, the other was happy and nice. I came in hopes of finding a good falafel, but I should have skipped it when I saw they were already made and sitting in a warmer. A great falafel has to be freshly made. Their flatbread is different from what I'm used to at Mediterranean restaurants--it was more like a tortilla. Lots of tasty looking toppings to choose from. We had a hard time picking out a spot because each place was slightly grimy. This was post lunch rush, around 2:30, so there had been time to tidy up the place. The trash station was a wreck. Even if your food is outstanding, eating in a not-so-fresh location detracts from enjoying your meal. We quickly tired of the loud music. Came here for the first time to grab a quick bite after seeing a movie. Got the chicken shawarma flatbread, which was spicier than I expected. Wish there had been a note on the menu saying that it was spicy. Unfortunately the guy behind the counter at first didn't know how to heat up the flatbread. And the second guy who added the fillings clearly didn't know how to wrap it appropriately. Luckily for them the food was delicious and made up for any assembly line short comings. There was plenty of seating available, and I liked the Mediterranean style tiles in the decor. There were a lot of families with young kids running around, and it got pretty noisy, but I wasn't expecting a fine dining experience. Don't order online through Yelp. The estimated pick up time for one pita sandwich that required zero cooking was one hour from the time I placed my order. Yelp also said I would receive an email when my order was ready. I never received an email so I showed up at one hour. My food was on the counter for who knows how long. Neither of the women in front had an idea but said it wasn't an hour. I'm not sure I believe that because my sandwich is so soggy it's falling apart. No sure who's at fault- Mezeh or Yelp. I love this place. Food taste great. And I saw a truck unloading their vegetables and it was organic. That I was surprised about. The beef is tender. The lamb is also wonderful. If I tried to prepare this at home it would cost much more plus it would take so much longer to prepare. And let's be honest. Not sure it would turn out right. This place is a great idea. And the overall quality of the food is fairly good. The big problem is that nearly all the ingredients offered to create your meal with are unnecessarily salty! I like salt on my food, however there seems to be an epidemic of over salting by the restaurants in this town. You got salt on the table if an adjustment to your taste needs to be made. You cannot take the salt "out" of what you've been served. Line cooks are apparently not tasting what's coming out of their kitchens at local restaurants, because if they did, they'd realize the food is WAY too salty! I'll probably give Mezeh another try. Maybe I was there on a bad day. But... I won't be coming back if it's the same result. It was too salty to enjoy. And that's a shame because it could be really good otherwise. read more

Lavish filling healthy salads for under $10 - what's not to love. I'm a fan of the chicken kebab on a kale and mixed greens base with Tzatziki dressing. The fresh warm pita bread is also delicious. I went to Mezeh again yesterday for lunch and, as always, enjoyed the food. This time I had a pita pocket sandwich with some kind of beef meatballs - kepfe? It was delicious especially with all the wide variety of add ons that are available to choose from and are included. I first went to Mezeh with a Groupon discount promotion. I got their app which gives me $10 credit after $100 spend. There are other options locally for similar food but Mezeh is a cut above the rest. I had a wonderful dinner here. The food is delicious and the staff was really friendly. It's pretty quick. I'm from out of town and don't have a Mezeh where I live. I liked it so much I ate here two nights in a row. The eggplant was delicious!! Only negative comment is that they play music so loud that the staff and customers can barely hear each other and have repeat things over and over. Tried this through Order Up last evening and thought it was terrific. Useful to know when ordering delivery that the sauces are all added in with the rest of the toppings. Hubby order the very hot and the spicy sauces so he could try them out but together they were over the top for him and detracted from his enjoyment. Also we advise not to go crazy just because you can get 10 toppings: that's a lot going on. Kudos for much better than average recycled packaging too. read more

I absolutely love Mediterranean food, and Mezeh is among the best I've ever had. Their concept and quality are amazing. Unfortunately, I have to dock them a star; while they've been dubbed "the Chipotle of Mediterranean food," the fact is that Chipotle has the serving-line formula down to a science, and Mezeh does not. It feels like they need to refine their kitchen and/or line methods, or simply hire more servers. Peak times will often see lines of 25+ people, which take up to 15 minutes to reach the front. Don't get me wrong; the food is fantastic and I'd still happily wait that long for it. But, at the end of the day, I've seen Chipotle execute the same concept much, much more efficiently. read more

Mezeh has been my go-to lunch/dinner spot for over a year now and they've always been very reliable. However, last night not only was the service horrendous but the restaurant was FILTHY. Dishes were piled up by the trash can, chairs were all over the place, every single table was covered in food, napkins were all over the floor, dirty silverware was mixed in with the clean silverware (which were only a few pieces). Needless to say, it was a really poor experience. Additionally, it was more than obvious that the staff did not care at all about the customers. One of the workers rolled her eyes each time a customer asked for a topping and another one blatantly ignored me when I asked her a question regarding one of their dishes. There was also hardly any rice or meat options left and we were rudely informed they did not know when they would be replaced. It was 7p - how do you not know when you're going to replace two of the main ingredients of each dish? I will probably start going to Cava from here on out given my experience last night. I'm also in charge of catering large events for my school and will no longer be using Mezeh. A manager or someone needs to have a word with whoever was in charge of running the restaurant last night because they are bound to continue losing customers if they keep up like that. read more

This place is my new go to in Charlottesville. They offer a huge variety of fresh options. I've been here twice. The first time the food was good, service was okay. Can't complain. The second time I came in really looking forward to my falafel in a flatbread, however when I asked for that I was told that they were out of flatbread. So I asked for pita and was told that would take a few minutes if I wanted to wait. So I waited. A few minutes later the pita was ready so I again asked for falafel... They were out of falafel. As that's the only vegetarian protein on the menu I ended up leaving and had a wonderful bagel at Bodos instead. read more
