I love Mezeh! It's quick, it's affordable, and the food is so good! There's so much variety that you can eat something different there every day of the week. The portions are quite large, too. I'm always stuffed after eating here but everything's so healthy that I never feel grossly full. They also have a great selection of sodas and juices such as kale beet apple and cane sugar lemonade - definitely worth trying! I recommend filling your glass up with a little bit and going back frequently for refills so you can try them all. There are plenty of non-spicy options, but beware, when they say something on the menu is spicy, they mean it! I think I can tolerate moderately spicy things and this slightly exceeded my tolerance. Spicy bowl + drink was a good combination, though, because gulping down all that liquid allowed me to go back and try all the different drinks. This place has a great concept. Chipotle for Mediterranean food. The ingredients are so fresh and delicious. I used to go to a place like this by Fort Belvoir, VA call Baytna. Stopped here for dinner tonight and I will never be back. I stood in line as the first person for 10 minutes while the workers were full filling online orders before the workers even looked up and acknowledged me. Then proceeded to have 1-2 things out in each location, with the lack of any sympthany or sense of urgercy it was meaningless to them. At the juice location there were fruit flys and flys everywhere swarming, it was absolutely disgusting. And then to put the cherry on top, the bathroom was absolutely foul. Never ever will I return there. I have been to the Richmond mezah location many times and it makes the Charlottesville one look like it should be shut down with a health inspector visit. I did the online ordering and there were missing items from almost every single dish ordered except for my 3 yo's bowl. It was astounding! The most egregious one was the missing lamb that I paid an extra $3.50 for...that did prompt me to call and since nobody answered, had to leave a message, and a week later nobody called back. I don't know...things happen and maybe whoever was in charge is going through a family crisis or something but it was a pretty bad service experience which made an otherwise tasty meal not so great. This Is my go to place for lunch in Charlottesville! I eat here 3-4 times a month and absolutely LOVE all the food! There is Nothing that I have tried, that I have not liked. My co-workers and I have been going to this location since it opened and we love. We have gone at all times during the day and never had an issue with waiting. Customer service has always been amazing with everyone busy but working the line. The people are always friendly and the service is always with a smile. My wife and daughters also love the variety of food choices and the drinks are a real treat. This is my favorite lunch spot as I can change what meats and vegetables to eat that day. I understand the idea of Covid, but there was never a challenge until recently with having everything available. So at the height of Covid they were doing great. Now each time I go in they are short 3-4 items. And the one time I said something the apparent manager in charge said oh we can make it if you want it. So it did not seem an issue of having it but rather of not providing items later in the day. And perhaps not appropriately stocking. 6 months ago I would have said highly recommend. Today it's hit or miss. Because each time of the last 6 visits, they did not have or had not or were not continuing to prepare items that are key items that made mezeh my enjoyable go to. I love this place. It is super great for a fast place to grab and go, to sit down with friends, or to order catering from! Seriously it is super delicious and you can add as many toppings as you would like which I love and can customize your bowl to your preferences. I used to love this easy and yummy stop on my eating adventures but the past few times I have been in the service is horrible. I stand there and wait for 3-6 minutes while three people clean, carry boxes this way and that and fill online orders. Then after doing the first part of the bowl the helper passes me to the "add ons" and moves on to the next customer. Why not just fill my whole bowl and then come back and help the next customer? I can see how this might work when there are more helping with the orders but when I walked in it was 4:25....with no one in the restaurant and no one in line, I should walk out by 4:30, right? Plenty of fresh and healthy food for decent prices! I prefer Mezeh to Chipotle, and it's a similar concept with similar prices (~$10, and nicer food, in my opinion). Mediterranean cuisine lends itself very well to the mixed bowl concept. They serve every bowl with a fresh, hot piece of pita (yumm), the unlimited and varied sides have exciting flavors and textures, the rice and salad options are great, and the meat options are absolutely delicious. Beware--when they say "spicy" they do mean "spicy"! (I appreciate this, as generally "spicy" at a Mediterranean place means "mild" to the average Korean-American. So yay Mezeh for getting it right!) The service was still figuring it out a bit, but they were friendly and kept the line moving alright. The location in Stonefield is quite nice--modern with lots of tables and a bit of outdoor seating as well. Another fast casual eatery in Charlottesville. It's becoming almost cliche at this point, but it seems to be what the people want. This is a nice venue in Stonefield with plenty of space. The line can get long so I'd avoid it during the lunch rush if you're in a hurry. They have a myriad of choices ranging from three types of hummus to roasted eggplant to tabouleh. The falafel is good not great, chicken shawarma is good, and the prices range from 8-10 depending on if you get a wrap or a bowl. You'll get a decent portion for that price. Everything tastes pretty good, but I prefer Basil still among the Mediterranean eateries here. You won't go wrong taking a break from Roots and Chipotle if you stop here though. read more

So this is my second review of this restaurant and the FIRST time I've received service so poorly since I moved to Charlottesville. My girl and I came in during the lunch rush today and when it was our turn to start our order she asked for no rice just lettuce. At first I thought the gentleman fixing the food was having trouble hearing because it was so busy in the restaurant but when my girl asked for extra mixed greens, this guy spitefully tossed one single leaflet of lettuce into the bowl. We walked out immediately after waiting in line for 15minutes to be serviced. I tried to talk to the manager Mike about my issue today and he just shrugged it off and smiled in my face reassuring that they did not care about our experience. We really enjoyed eating here. It is like a Chipotle but Mediterranean flavors. The toppings are unlimited once you pick which protein you want. I've had the chicken Schwarma and the Beef Kefta. Both were really good. The Spicy eggplant topping is my favorite right now. They also have couscous, feta spread, numerous hummus, tabbouleh, and many more. A great fast-casual dining option in Stonefield! An easy place to grab a quick lunch/dinner and be on your way. Its basically a Chipotle-style Mediterranean concept, pick your vessel (rice bowl, pita, salad, etc), pick your protein, and pick a bunch of different toppings and sauces. They have a tremendous variety of toppings that are always fresh and tasty. My only tip would be to restrain yourself from adding too many toppings to your meal, it can get overwhelming and you're better off just picking a few things that you like. Its fun for an adventurous eater to try a lot of different flavors. They have fancy sodas and a selection of unique cold teas that I really enjoy. They make a cinnamon-sugar pita chip dessert that is delicious, so give that a try. 5-stars for convenience, great food, and great variety. read more

Be careful what you put in there though because one thing could ruin the whole bowl's taste.I could have done without the spicy eggplant stuff and the pickled carrots. I didn't know they were pickled, thought they were just shredded carrots. For meat I had the beef balls which were really tasty. I wouldn't say they were super tender but the taste made up for it. I'd also recommend the sliced eggplant. They have a lot of sauces to choose from which is great, I had the spicy hummus. Atmosphere is fun, young, colorful, and modern. The music was a little loud for me, but I went during non-peak time so maybe it seemed louder because the restaurant was a little more quiet. There is outdoor seating. read more
