I'm so glad this place is still here even after the pandemic! I got my haircut done by Kim, I showed him a pic of what I wanted and he gave me exactly what I wanted, maybe even better. I asked for long layers and a v shape, he also showed me pics of different styled bangs which I appreciate. The cut came out to $50, I tipped $25 since Kim also washed my hair :) I tried calling but it seems like their phone isn't working, so I walked in hoping there's no wait on a Tuesday afternoon which there wasn't. Will be coming back again!

okay so i went to cut my bangs on july 4th. walked in it was dead empty, I was skeptical but still went in as I was around the area and they had amazing reviews. i asked for curtain bangs parted in midddle. Sam ? was it his name Yes I believe. not sure what he did, he said "trust me i been hair style for 20 years" didnt speak english much should of walked out from the geico but I said good reviews on yelp so lets give it a shot. Walked outbwith chopped up bangs all different lengths and when i saw them i asked him l what the hell did you do" and he said its because my hair wasnt washed LOL. meanwhile i walked in with washed hair. I DONT KNOW where these good reviews are from but i asked for simple bangs and this is what I received.

....I so wanted to love this place, I really did. I was torn between booking an appointment with MG Hair and their competitor, Xcellent Beauty Salon. I have gotten my hair professionally done before & am no stranger to coloring my hair at home as well. After going back and forth, I decided to give MG Hair a chance due to their good reviews & Instagram posts. I booked my appointment through Instagram DM and the person I spoke with through there was very sweet & attentive, making me excited for this appointment. She was thorough when asking about my previous hair treatments, asking for photos of my current hair situation, provided pricing and more. I thought I had finally found a place I would be in love with. Prior to my appointment I made sure to let the person I spoke to on Instagram know that my hair was currently colored, even adding photos to show. I was looking to achieve a pink/purple tinted balayage and many stylists refuse to work on colored hair / prefer virgin hair, which is why I made this known. The person I spoke to through Instagram assured me this wasn't a problem and even gave me background on my stylist since I had concerns. I made a deposit online to reserve this all day time slot to alter my hair, and I actually felt as if this salon knew what they were doing! This was what made me fall in love with the salon. Now, onto the things that went wrong. My appointment was on a Sunday morning, the first appointment available at 10:30am. I arrived to the salon at 10:20 and the gate was down, everything was locked so I decided to walk around the neighborhood. I got back to the salon at 10:32am (yes, I checked the time for this...) and walked in to see that the only stylist in the salon was occupied with another customer. I walked in letting him know that I had an appointment, and he seemed confused, as if he was unaware that I had made a deposit online and that he were booked for a hair coloring treatment that day. This should have been red flag #1. He stopped working on his customer to ask me what my appointment was for, sample photos of what I wanted done and asked me if I spoke to the representative on Instagram before arriving. He then proceeded to ask me the price I was quoted, which was strange to me. He seemed unhappy with the price the Instagram representative quoted me and went back to his other client. I remained seated and unattended until 11:15am when another stylist entered the salon. I soon learned that this stylist was a trainee, and had limited experience working on hair alone without supervision. This made me skeptical since I was originally told the stylist who would work on me was experienced. I have limited complaints about this trainee stylist considering he was inexperienced, as he was the one who completed the entirety of my hair treatment while being supervised by the main stylist. The way the workers at this salon went about treating my hair....unacceptable. I was told that the desired color I wanted could not be completed, that my hair was too damaged, that it was too colored and wouldn't work, etc. They refused to treat my hair and I was upset, since I had a whole consultation prior where I was assured it would be manageable, paid a deposit AND had traveled from Brooklyn to the salon. The workers began speaking in Chinese about how it could not be done, unaware that I was able to understand them. The professionalism was not there and I already was not happy. The trainee ended up bleaching my hair for me and attempting this color and there's not much to say about that considering he was not an experienced stylist. They performed a double process of bleach on my entire head (and your entire head is not meant to be bleached for balayage) causing my scalp to bleed and scab for days after. The lead stylist assured me he added purple tint to my hair color but it just was not there....it turned into a darker gray color which I did not mind. Upon leaving my only concern was the fact the stylists opted to use 2 different shades of gray on my hair which was very noticeable, but I accepted it. I was ~alright~ with my hair color upon leaving, paid the quoted amount and left. I was not completely upset. Two days later, my hair color began fading. I brought up concerns about my hair turning green & was told it wouldn't happen. Well they were right! All the gray coloring left my hair instead. I am currently a full blonde. Is this the look I wanted? No. Am I left with a bleeding, scabbing scalp and fried hair? Yup. Is there anything I can do about this? Not really, because I don't trust this salon in the slightest to touch my hair anymore. After an entire day of stress, bleach, and $400 later, I can come to the conclusion that... I think I'll stick to coloring my hair at home from now on.

A few years ago, I had an ash blonde balayage done at their competitor Xcellent Beauty Salon two blocks away - it cost me a whopping $600+. Since then, I haven't let a stylist touch my hair and paid the price with incredibly damaged hair from home bleaching kits. Until recently, that is, when I discovered MG Hair Salon on Instagram! Their coordinator Tina is SOOOOO friendly, personable, and easy to work with - she inquires about your color history, asks for reference photos, explains the process thoroughly, walks you through scheduling an appointment on their page, and collects a deposit via Venmo. Her customer service skills are top-notch, and really makes you feel comfortable. The first time I came in, my stylist was Henry. He helped me achieve a dark, ash blonde from dark brown box-dyed hair. The second time, four months later, my stylist was Kevin - who was able to lighten my hair to a silvery blonde! Both sessions took about 6-7 hours, but everyone on their team was so attentive it didn't even feel that long. I'm so happy with the results, I'll definitely be coming back for touch-ups to stay consistent. They are truly knowledgeable in their field, and I trust them with my hair!!! The best part is they offer a discount if you are a healthcare worker, and I spent less than $300 whereas other salons will charge you almost double. :)

really great salon experience V was my stylist -- he was really thorough and friendly. on top of everything, he also gave me very helpful tips to maintain my hair color and health. a month later, the color still looks great thanks to all the product recommendations made by V :) highly recommend getting your hair colored here!

I found this salon through Instagram. Saw that they did such a great job with hair. I needed to get my hair done ASAP. They got me in. I put my deposit. I came in and told them I had an appointment but they never even asked my name. Before making an appointment I was told that they could darken my hair to how I wanted. I was told it was achievable. I was so excited to finally have darker blonde hair. I was confused the whole process. They bleached my hair so weirdly. They didn't start bottom to top or top to bottom. They bleached it at the top. Then went to the bottom and bleached back to the top? THEN they I guess attempted to tone my hair? I feel like they forgot to tone my bottom half. I was so confused but they're supposed to be professionals so I let them do their thing. As they were about to cut blow and style, I was so confused with the color I got. It didn't look darker? There was a pink hue on my hair and on top of that the part where they toned was a different color than what they didn't tone. All in all, my hair looks like crap. I'm embarrassed to go outside. My hair is multicolored. And didn't even achieve the color I wanted. Even though I was told I'd be able to before I made my appointment. KEEP IN MIND THAT THEY NEVER TOLD ME I WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO GET THE HAIR I WANTED THROUGHOUT THE PROCESS. They were nice enough to give me a free treatment. But why would I come back to a place that messed up my hair? How could I even trust them to not mess up a treatment? They also offered a fix. But like I said I can't trust them to "fix" it. I had 2 other friends who came here. I had to warn them to never come again. This was a waste of 300 dollars and now I can't go out in public without a hoodie.

It's my first time at MG hair salon, highly recommend hair stylist Sunny!!! It's not easy to find a hair cutter who can listen to my own idea. The design of the hair is suitable for me, and the cut is very fashion and I feel ten years younger. The point is that the stylist himself Sunny is also handsome guy!! Very like his own hair style! Will always come back for him!

Wow I love this place! I found them through Instagram and I'm so glad I did. It's so nice to go to a place with people know what they're doing and are really good at it. I'm the type of person that never knows what to do with my hair, only that I want to try something new so I made the appointment. When I went, I wasn't totally sure what I wanted. But because I ruined my hair with black box dye, it took several tries to remove the color before anything could be done with my hair. They wanted to get it right and make my hair beautiful which I can't say how much I appreciated. The customer service was excellent. I was there most of the day and they asked me if I was okay or hungry if I needed anything. So kind and accommodating which really made the experience all the better. After my hair was ready for color, Maarten told him he had a better idea for me and I put myself in his hands. Wow it's better than I ever expected. I can't stop looking at this color. I never thought I could pull it off but thanks to his team's expertise (Seven and Winston? I'm bad at names) I'm obsessed. I hope the pics do it justice. There's so many tones to it and it's also super soft and not dry looking. COVIDwise - They take your temperature, keep masks on, hand sanitizer everywhere, and there weren't too many people in at once - we were all spaced out. Felt very comfortable. TLDR: Go here, get great customer service and meet people who really know and care about what they're doing, and never dye your hair black on your own!!!

My experience with MG Hair Salon started on IG, and let me tell you! Tina is very professional and was realistic about the expectations of my hair and the color that I would achieve vs what I wanted, which is expected as I've done a lot to my hair over the years. She was sure to make me feel very comfortable as I came in and got ready for my process. Coming over to check in ever so often and telling me about the aftercare of my hair once I leave which I loved! I wish all establishments did this, it would make their job so much easier. I also appreciate when being told to wash my hair with a colored shampoo they didn't try to sell me something but suggested that I incorporate what I already use into my routine and still made suggestions of other products. Because of the nature of my hair being 3b curls after blow drying and then curling my hair in the salon by the time I got home my hair got really frizzy and it looked badly damaged. I waited the allotted 3 days before washing and styling myself and I'm glad I did before reviewing because my hair looks amazing! Even though my hair isn't as dark as I would have liked, the color that was achieved is gorgeous and growing on me, I can always go darker another time. So glad I entrusted my hair in the hands of these magical hairstylists - Thanks Wynn!

Don't know where to begin, but for a lady who has been bleaching her hair For years, know the good + bad outcomes, I swear to everything I believe that this salon is heaven on earth. Tina is the sweetest and super knowledgeable from start to beginning, she walked me through the whole process even before I was in the salon. Wynn & Mika - you don't ever need to go to searching after they're done with you. They check to make sure you're happy with the color through each step and reassure you! They know what they're doing. My color is everything I dreamed of. Beyond happy, service was amazing, they consistently check in on you to make sure you're okay, overall an outstanding experience.

Well, at least I can rock purple? Came into the salon after making an appointment today for a cut and balayage, and sis, I am not happy. I asked for my hair to be colored like the reference photo, and they said, no problem, and set to work on my hair. I explicitly told them that I wanted something more natural because of my work, and if it wasn't as red as the photo, it was okay. Oh boy. Not only was the color not at all natural, it's not even RED. It's purple. Blue violet, anime character purple. My job frowns on super extreme hair colors, what am I supposed to do now? They said not to wash it out if I wanted the color to last, but then when I was in the salon, and I said that it looked too purple, the stylist said I could wash my hair? What? A waste of $340. I tipped because I'm nice, but I'm seriously unhappy. Update: MG Hair Salon reached out to me shortly after I posted this review to correct my hair color, and they gave me a free hair treatment and blowout too. The stylists in charge apologized so many times for the color not being what I wanted, as well as told me what I could do to maintain the color. My hair rocks now! I'm super thrilled with the result and am eating a little bit of humble pie as I reread this. Don't hesitate to come here!

Got a tip from Yelper Jo I. To see if Stylist Sam, Eco or Kit could do my son's haircut. And her recommendations are always on point! Thanks girl for the referral. Stylist Sam was available and I didn't name drop until the end of my service. But he knew we were first time customers since it seems all of these guys don't forget a face. Upon walking in, every stylist was already occupied except Sam. We were lucky to have caught him just returning from a break. My son is off to college soon and he wanted a new cut. We had an Asian fringe style in mind, with a photo on his cell, showed Sam what he wanted and the process started. First the hair wash, then to the haircut chair. Both processes were handled by Sam. Sam referenced the photo a few times and even asked questions during the cut to ensure my son wanted a certain side or sweep for his bangs. Very professional all throughout. Both of us were very happy with the results and we will be sure to return again for the next maintenance cut. I saw other customers getting color treatments and the results were fantastic. Will have to consider it for the rest of the family next time. I'm glad this place is in the neighborhood! (So maybe I won't have to go to Manhattan all the time). read more

Whoever answers the phone never gives correct information. Every time I come for a wash and dry, I call before hand. Same story everytime. They ask how long and say, yes come now. Everytime I get there, the man in the front says sorry we don't have time. The lady who picked up the phone didn't ask me before she told you to come. Completely unapologetic. Terrible management. This isn't a one time thing. Go to any other salon around the corner. read more

I've always had trust issues with salon/hairdressers here in New York! I lived in Australia my whole life and I have a go-to place to where I live but after moving here in NY, it's difficult for me to find a salon that I truly trust. Especially I'm always afraid to get my hair dyed and getting my hair bleached to a place that I've never been before! This was the second time I got my hair dyed professionally (the first time was in Australia and they didn't get to lift my hair to its fullest potential. Probably because they only bleached it once). I found MG Hair Salon on instagram and I was inspired by the different colors they created. They posted the process on their stories quite often so after some time, I decided to go in! They bleached my hair twice because I previously boxed dyed my hair dark brown so they needed that extra lift but Im not mad how light it has gotten!!! So happy! The result is totally different from what I showed them but I was actually surprised HOW MUCH I LOVE IT. I am actually not mad about it (also, it's my fault because they did a sample test on my hair and thought the color would turn out the same but I didn't realize how light my hair will be once it's blow dried. They also gave me a heads up that it will not turn exactly how I wanted it but will attempt to do so) so Im not entirely mad but quite the opposite!! I LOVE IT THAT IT TURNED OUT LIGHTER Most importantly, they took care of my hair so well. I was so worried that if I allow them to bleach my hair, my hair will not withstand the chemicals but they took care of me so well and my hair is actually 1/10 damaged. Im surprised how well my hair managed to absorb all these drastic changes and it's not dry at all :) People there are hella friendly that my extrovert self just cooped up on its own little world Cute interior too :) read more

After years of box-dyeing my hair, I wanted to do something different. I walked in 2 days ago because of the great yelp reviews and it was quite busy, so I just got a consultation from a nice young man (I'm guessing he was Ray). He clearly explained to me the difference between different types of dyeing of the hair (ombré, balayage). So, after consulting with him, I decided that I wanted to try balayage and set an appointment for the next day. The next morning I came right on time and I was greeted by another friendly worker (I'm guessing he was Elson-- I'm sorry I'm really bad with names). He made me feel comfortable by giving me water, the WiFi password (LOL), and even giving me a book of different hair colors I can choose from. Then, my stylist Eco came in and I explained to him that I wanted a natural yet trendy balayage style (but I was really bad at explaining my thoughts because I'm not too knowledgeable in the different types of colors/ shades) YET Eco knew exactly what I was looking for and he immediately began to work on my hair. The process was obviously very long-- I came in at 10:30am and left the place at around 3:50pm (~6 hours). At times, I just fell asleep but it was no problem for Eco and his assistant. In the end, Eco took me outdoors/indoors for a photo shoot of my hair to show me the results in different lightings. It was kinda funny, but I liked how he genuinely wanted me to see my hair color and like it. He also gave me lots of tips on how to take care of my newly colored hair. For the whole procedure with my medium-cut, previously dyed but growing out Asian hair (balayage and slight hair trim), the total came out to be $260. As for tip, I gave a generous 20% as well as a smaller tip for his assistant. Overall, I highly recommend this place if you're looking to change up your hair color because they sure know what they're doing and I can see the difference in dexterity when they work on my hair! :) read more

So I came here in April to get my hair colored. First time ever, so I was a little nervous. I booked it with Tina through Instagram messaging and she was very sweet and helpful. Definitely gave me a thorough run down on pricing and what to expect. When I went to the salon, the facility looked very clean, everyone was wearing masks and social distanced, so everyone felt safe. My hair stylist Teresa was very nice. I showed her photos of what I was hoping to achieve. Teresa and her assistant took very good care of me and explained to be the steps that were going to happen so I would know what to expect. She also explained the after care and how to maintain the color longer. After the appointment, Tina also checked in with me to make sure everything went well. It was a wonderful experience and I will definitely be coming back for all my hair needs. read more

Found Ray through his instagram posts and decided to give it a try. Boy he did not disappoint. I'm typically Very picky about my hair (after several bad experiences elsewhere) and am gunshy to try anything new and exciting. After a 30 min consultation w Ray, he advised that I go with one color vs the ombre since I clearly wasnt ready to commit. Long story short I love the color and cut.Have officially found my new hair guy and spot! Thanks Ray! read more

Eco has been cutting my hair for the past 7 years now. I honestly would not go to anyone else. I'm originally from NYC but have live out of state for the past 4 years. I ALWAYS continued to get my haircut only from Eco every time I visited NYC (which is 2-3 times a year for the past 4 years). This tells you how picky I am which validates how good of a hair stylist he is. Once you schedule an appointment with him, you are seen right away. He gives you his undivided attention and make sure you are completely satisfied with the service before he dismisses you regardless of whether it's busy or not. And every time I am forced to get a haircut by someone else due to the schedule I always come back to him to get it fixed. I can hands-down tell you that if you are looking for a hair stylist and you are extremely picky, You need to get your haircuts by him. read more

I dropped into the salon this afternoon while I was in the area. I called before I went to make sure they were able to take me and when I got there they were able to take me in right away. There were two other ladies getting their hair done when I walked in. I got a wash, cut and blow dry/style by the stylist Wing and I am happy! He took his time and was thorough. The staff and customers (myself included) wore masks the entire time and were very pleasant. This is my first time here but definitely not my last since it is close to home! Thanks! read more

My experience had been quite different than all the reviews here. I requested to get a balayage and sent them a photo for inspiration of what I wanted. I understand when you go to a salon things happen but when you are not told things it looks like more of a cover up than anything else. I spent 8 hrs in this salon on my weekend. They stripped my hair of its color to make it all blonde. Something I didn't not request and it was bleached three different times. They bleached the hell out of my hair that they broke my hair on the sides. After getting it bleach they straightened my hair something I have not done to my hair in years. I've been really careful with my hair for the past 3 years and have not exposed it to heat. Which is what the majority of us curly hairs do to maintain its health. Maybe this salon doesn't understand my curly texture but I did address my concern when heat was being used. They told me they straighten it because it looked frizzy. When they straighten it I told them I was happy about the color and that it looked grey to me. They asked if I wanted a toner and I refused. Toners adjust the color and do not change the color otherwise a temporary fix. It's so bad that they ruin my curl pattern and I have to use bobby pins to keep it from coming out because they look like wings. I did not get my curl pattern back for awhile. In order to get it back to healthy I have been doing weekly masks, taking vitamins, using special shampoo and avoiding heat. When I say breakage it was pretty bad and obvious when you start looking inside of the hair. Which is something I didn't notice until someone told me is that your baby hairs and after I had washed it. They never told me of what they did. It's called a courtesy and is Salon 101 that you tell your client of what you just did. On top of that, I paid full price and did leave a tip. When I got home I saw what had happen to my hair on the sides. I did reach out to the person I made my appointment with and told them I was disappointed with my experience. They didn't say sorry nor try to offer how they can fix the situation. I just want everyone to be aware of what's going at this salon. If I can give them no stars I would. I will definitely take my business elsewhere. read more

I've been searching for a perfect hair salon for a year and I finally found it. I'm kinda demanding customer - the service should be good, the place should be clean and, of course, stuff have to do their job well. I made an appointment with Ray and showed him a pictures of what I wanted. We have to bleach my hair three times and after all my hair's condition still good. It took around 7 hours to make my hair look that gorgeous. ;) But it's worth it. I'm literally in love with my hair, because Ray and Mika made the coloring much better than I could imagine. It was my first time going to the MG salon and everyone were very nice and friendly - it's like I've been in the Four Seasons hotel. 5 star hotel service. :D Mika was always making sure that I'm feeling good and asking if I need something. She recommended a lot of things for my hair - how to take care of it and keep the color long lasting. Also Ray explained every step about what they're going to do with my hair and suggested best solutions. Highly recommended. Definitely gonna come back. read more

I have been coloring my hair years now. My most recent color (which i regret now) was when I decided to mix Manic Panic Vampire Red with conditioner and leave it on my hair for 20 minutes. At first, I loved the red but it was so hard to maintain and quite honestly, I got lazy so I just let it wash out lol. My hair was long and pretty damaged on the ends as I have not had short hair for almost 10 years. I was looking for something different but subtle. I started looking on yelp and found MG Hair Salon. I made my appointment for this past saturday. When I arrived, I noticed the salon was very clean. They had a tree inside the salon with a bench giving me the feels of if I were in a park on a sunny day (although it was 29 degrees outside). The decor was very nice and the salon was spacious. Eco had just finished with his previous client and when I spoke to him, I told him that I wanted a gray balayage. I also told him that I wanted to cut my hair into a medium a-line bob. He suggested that I should cut my hair that day and come back in a couple months for the color (so the red could be more washed out and it would be less damaging to my hair). But of course I was a bit stubborn as I had a few events coming up. He said he could do it but it would require my hair to be bleached 3 times to get the red out and then they would apply a toner. I thought about it for a few minutes and decided to take the risk. And I am so glad that I did! Mika and Eco got to my hair. Eco cut my hair to get most of the damaged ends off. Mika applied bleach the first time, my red turned into a bright orange. I kept my cool but internally, I was scared. I looked like a clown and I was scared that we wouldn't be able to get the red out. Mika bleached my hair for the 2nd time and now it was like an orange/pinkish shade. I was still a bit nervous but I trusted that in the end, everything would be ok. Mika bleached the middle part and ends one more time. My hair felt very rough and brittle but I just kept my faith. Mika then applied a dark brown color to the roots and put the toner (to achieve a cool gray/lavender) to the middle and bottom of the hair. She then blended out the colors using her magic. We left that on for a little while and then washed it off. This whole process took about about 5-6 hours. My hair was dark fading to a grayish/lavender ombre again and the red was no where to be seen!!! You can imagine how happy I was at this point. Eco cut my hair some more to create the a-line bob that I wanted. He then used a brush to blow dry my hair. It was like watching a science project come together right infront of my eyes. The dead weight was lifted off my shoulders, literally, and I felt like a new person. My hair feels soft despite being bleached 3 times and looks super healthy. I am so so so happy and thankful to Eco and Mika for fixing my hair and making me feel amazing and confident again. The prices are so reasonable for the work that they do. Also, the service of everyone working at this salon was fantastic. They did not make me feel out of place as some salons do. In fact, they kept checking up on me to make sure I was comfortable the entire time. When you can get excellent skills and exceptional service all in one place, I think its easy to say that you have hit the jackpot. It's only been a few days and I have been getting so many compliments even from random people on the street. Thank you so much to the MG Hair Salon team for your fabulous work. I have found my new go-to salon and I will remain a loyal customer. read more

I was so excited to get my hair done, as it's been years since I've gotten it professionally dyed and I got recommended this place by two people I know. I made the appointment on Instagram where I was required to pay a deposit. The day of my appointment I walked in and they had no idea what I was coming in for and didn't even ask for my name so honestly what was the deposit for? I told them I made the appointment via Instagram and website and explained to them what I wanted and showed them a picture of what I wanted twice. I told them in advance my hair was previously dyed so they knew and they told me it may not match exactly but it'll be "close" so I believed them. They explained the process to me but it's not what ended up happening and they grew silent as the process went on. What they did was bleach my hair three separate times and then give up and style and cut it and call it a day, no dye or anything. The guy told me to not dye my hair red anymore because it's too hard to get out. It wasn't red, it was brassy from the bleach that needed toner. In the pictures Is what I wanted vs what I got. Completely different and way too light which is absolutely not what I wanted. I messaged the account to express my disappointment and they offered to fix it for free and I waited several hours for them to respond so I just went to the store, bought box dye and attempted to fix the mess myself. My poor hair is fried from all the bleach and it wasn't even worth it. Another client was complaining while I was there that they messed up her color on previously dyed hair too. Maybe this place is only good with virgin hair because apparently they are color blind when it comes to dye on dye. I wouldn't have minded If it was close but it absolutely wasn't. My hair was darker when I went in and was closer to what I wanted than it was when I left. Will absolutely not be returning to "fix for free" when it should have been done right or close to right in the first place. read more

I came in very excited to have a full set of pink hair, however due to my previous bleaching through highlights, it would've completely damaged my hair. Alex, explained very thoroughly and helped me the best they could with what I could do with my hair now. I'm very happy with how my hair came up to be & it's absolutely gorgeous I may say, and although it's not pink, I'm very glad I came here everyone is super sweet and kind! read more

After wanting to change my hair up for the longest time after moving out (feeling a little rebellious at this time!), and seeing how beautifully-done my friend's balayage was at MG Hair Salon, I decided to go to my usual barber to get color done. Obviously, limited proficiency in Cantonese and having a stubborn barber, resulted in a terrible idea! She had done the opposite of what I asked and gave me more of a terrible "reverse ombre." I left feeling cheated and even asked if she could fix it- which would incur an additional charge. So after realizing I couldn't walk out of the house with this particular hair color anymore, I made an appointment through Yelp to fix it by Elson. I showed up at 10AM for my appointment, and Elson immediately sat me down at a chair for consultation. I showed him some carefully-curated Google images of what I would like the outcome to achieve. He kindly explained to m the difference between an ombre and a balayage, and we both ended up agreeing that I wanted a subtle brown ombre. As soon as we decided on the color schemes, Mika and Elson got to work. on preparing bleach and the proper dyes for my hair. Unfortunately, the sloppy job started at the root of my hair, which prompted both Mika and Elson to ask if I "had done it myself at home." I was so embarrassed to respond that I paid my usual barber to do it. After a sympathetic, "Oh," Mika continued to bleach, wash multiple times, dye, and ombre dye my hair. Mika kept reassuring and explaining each step to me as we went through the process. She even asked if I was hungry or thirsty the whole time,as she realized I was also falling asleep just a little bit for the 4 hours I was in the chair. Once the final wash was conducted, Mika placed me on another chair and told me Elson would come back to style my hair as the final step. He showed me the first look after he blow dryed it; which was straight. He then proceeded to curl my hair to show me how lovely the brown ombre showed with all that volume. I loved it! Mika and him took hair that looked like it was home-done into salon quality. If I need another color treatment done and touch up's, I will definitely come back. And as they always say, you get what you pay for! read more

I had a Balayage done right before COVID hit and was never able to maintain my hair. Needless to say 6 months of quarantine has left my hair looking a hot mess. Then Tina, my hair fairy saved my hair. Tina is AMAZING. She answered all of my 10,000 questions patiently and thoroughly. Her knowledge and honesty helped me to decide what my next step would be for my poor hair. Wynn and Tom TRANSFORMED my hair like they had super powers! And in such a short amount of time. I thought it would be another 8 to 10 hour session of hair care, but in 2.5hrs my hair had the ultimate glow up. For those who are worried about safety measures, I am a mother of 3 and am VERY VERY cautious. I only go out to do grocery shopping once a week and am one of those you see in the parking lot wiping down and sanitizing all the products before it goes into my car. And repeat the process when I return home. Everyone wore a mask, there was literally no one around me except Wynn and Tom. I felt very safe. If you are in the Bayside neighborhood, I HIGHLY recommend MG Hair Salon. So friendly, so thorough and patient. They really take the time to explain everything from what to expect, what could happen and even how to care for your hair at home. Thank you Tina, Wynn and Tom!!!! read more

Customer Service: Great ! They provide a very thorough explanation for hair care, answered any questions, and fixed any complications. Most important factor was that they take what you want into consideration and provide great advice. $$ - hair cut was $45 for medium-long hair cut. Let's just say, if you decide to dye your whole head, it's pricey but you're getting your money's worth. I dyed it and I LOVED the results. Area is super convenient* for residential parking! + Municipal parking lot across the street. I drove. They accept card. Cash may be -slightly- cheaper! Simple and clean space! Music choice was great! Definitely changing my hair salon choice to this one! 5 stars! read more

As soon as I walked in here the atmosphere was beyond friendly and welcoming. The woman at the desk made me feel more comfortable at a salon than I've felt in years. I recently moved back to Queens and have been here for 3 years. In this time I haven't found a salon I like, until I came here. I had a horrible experience at two other salons in the area and gave up trying to get my hair cut for almost a year. Wynn gave me the best haircut that I've gotten in 5 years! I can confidently say this is the best haircut I may have ever gotten in general. His attention to detail was meticulous, he took his time making sure everything I said I wanted was done. He was also super kind and accommodating! I showed him a picture reference and left feeling like my hair was nicer than the one he referenced. I couldn't be happier with my hair. My boyfriend and I will never go anywhere else for haircuts! Thank you so much for making me love the way my hair looks for the first time in over a year! read more

I had such a great experience today at this salon! I messaged Tina the coordinator via the MG Salon instagram page yesterday with a few questions about the color I wanted and my current hair condition. She was so polite and responded right away. She asked me for details about my hair history and after exchanging a few pics of my current state and my desired look, she let me know what was realistic and BEST for my hair. I made my deposit and secured my appointment for today. Upon arriving, I was greeted by Tina ( she is an absolute sweetheart!) - (and she sanitized my hands etc. We are still dealing with Covid19) I was introduced to my stylist Wynn and his assistant Mika. Wynn is a kind, articulate and extremely talented hair professional..I cannot reccomend him enough! He took his time and made sure my hair kept its integrity while giving my hair an insanely beautiful transformation. I will never see anyone else! Mika his assistant is very sweet and considerate and made sure i was comfortable through the entire process. ( her shampooing is so great you will want to sleep!) Tina made today possible. Her service when I inquired made me feel confident to book immediately. She informed me on aftercare and answered every single concern. 10/10 Professional and friendly staff Clean environment Wonderful service I'll let my hair do the talking! AVOID KIM if you want to get an ombré hair color. He will fry your hair by throwing a BUNCH of bleach on your scalp making it sting. My hair is still damaged even after many months. I've never had such a bad experience at a hair salon. If he doesn't know how to do it, he should just be upfront about it rather than pretending like he knows what he's doing. Color came out awful. My hair is black but he had to color my roots black again because he messed up and didn't know what the heck he was doing. Scalp was stinging and I was smelling the bleach through my mask! He even splashed some bleach in my eyes and used the dyson blow dryer blowing directly into my ears for a long time! He can't even blow dry customer's hair without hurting them! Worst worst worst experience ever!! He scar'd me for life! 6 brutul hours and spent $350 to get hurt and I was nice enough to still tip him 15%! Just ask for Ray instead. Saw him doing his magic on his customer's hair and I was just dreading with Kim. He wanted me to follow him on Instagram. He must be hallucinating. read more

I am SO HAPPY I found MG Hair Salon and my new friend and stylist Ray! Before MG, I had several consultations at highly rated (non-asian) salons in Manhattan and Brooklyn and they all told me it couldn't be done, or that it would take several appointments at $300+ a session to achieve the look on my black hair. I called MG salon on a saturday morning and got a same-day appointment for cut AND balayage color. Ray got it all done in one appointment and I LOVE EVERYTHING. Seriously, it was like a miracle. He really knows what he's doing and you can tell in his technique. Plus he is super nice and was totally cool about it when halfway through the appointment I asked if he could make it more gray than blonde. It was not a problem at all and the final result is way better than i ever expected! Definitely coming back and highly recommend MG, especially for balayage/ombre with trendy colors that are hard to execute. Go see Ray and he will make you (or at least your hair) Instagram famous :-) read more

went in yesterday and was greeted by Elson, he explained what was best for my hair as I had a yellow ombre and was going for a brown with caramel highlights. He explained it would be best to use a single treatment brown base and he would tone the yellow and I would get the look I was aiming for. Previous salons told me I would have to bleach my hair. He explained every process and even explained what haircut would be right for me . I was only charged $120 but it was worth it. Will definitely be coming back as you do not need an appointment and they know what they are doing . My hair looks and feels fabulous ! Nadia read more

Every time I only look for Neos to help me cut it, this is really the most satisfactory haircut I have come to the United States for so long. Shop, maybe there is a barber who understands what I mean, and it is not easy to find a friend. Barber Shop Today Haircuts Haircuts New Hairstyles Hairstyles can't mess read more

Very pleased with this place ! First time my boyfriend and I went for a wash and trim. He was extremely happy with his cut and service. I also got a milbon treatment recommended by Tina for my damaged hair and split ends and I loved it. Amazing stylist and blow out ! Havent felt this amazing walking out of a salon in years. My hair felt so soft light and bouncy after and no more dead hair. Both of us will definitely return! read more

Ray is the best hair stylist!!! I've been MG Hair in main st 3 times since this Feb. he always make me satisfied. He makes my hair looks like the actress in Korea drama, so nature and so pretty. Now, they open another one at bayside, and it's my first time to be this new store. I love this new place. I can park easily, and the store facility is best ever. I love this place and Ray is the best employee!! read more

The staff is always friendly and engaging, making every appointment feel like catching up with old friends. Their professionalism and skill keep me coming back. Jeena gave me an amazing cut, just simple layers and a bang trim, but really well done. I showed her a picture of my hair at it best, and she was able to recreate it. The place is also clean and everyone is really friendly. Great business to support! read more

This is a very good hair salon. I receive the best service and technology there. I have a little doubt about their appointment. Because they don't accept appointments on weekends, we have to go in to arrange them, but I still understand.nice read more

I'm picky with salons, and this is the only place I let them touch my hair. Extremely professional, clean, and reasonable price. The barbers are really experienced but also opinionated which I like. I'll tell all my friends to come here. read more
