I used this company for my business disaster (Per a business acquaintance). I tried a another company and they did not return our call until 30 hours later!! We had limited hours to get items, equipment, furniture out of harms way. The response time was within minutes. Not sure if was just our "lucky" day (LOL) however, Once on site, they were friendly, efficient and professional! Everything was loaded into storage with care and diligence. We felt a great sense of relief that we did not have to be bothered with trying to wrap, carry & be bothered with tedious labor. Very pleased with the movers - needed help unloading a U-haul truck plus LOTS of moving of furniture up and down 4 a 3-story (plus basement), high-end mansion in Newport. Moving is stressful and almost always involves "surprises." After a score of carloads and one packed-to-the-gills 16' self-moved truckload, it was time to bring in the big boys for the remaining big stuff for this 30 mile move. Jeannie, the General Manager for MGM, was very helpful and friendly in setting up the appointment. Unfortunately, I am unsophisticated about the moving business and did not communicate our needs very well. On the other hand, she might have probed more effectively to determine the requirements and charges for the move. Normally, with a greater "meeting of the minds," they would have conducted an estimate to reduce the subsequent surprises on both sides. While I believed that the bill would basically be the labor rate ($135/hr.) times hours, in reality there are significant extra charges for some hard items. So the 3-man crew and truck arrived right on time. The initial inspection revealed the disappointing conclusion that the truck would be too small to carry all the items, as most could not be stacked. That meant that either the truck would have to make another round-trip (for an additional $600+, if I remember correctly), or, more likely, I'd rent another truck and do the rest myself. In the meantime, the decision was to load the biggest and hardest items and go from there. I was a little disappointed that the safe was beyond the capability of the crew, but Jeannie did say "probably yes, but maybe no; they'd have to look at it and decide then." The other items were prioritized, and loaded carefully and professionally at an average pace. The crew didn't seem overjoyed with the volume and difficulty of the move, but they did not complain and were always polite. Items arrived at the new house in good shape. During the unloading, the owner of the company, Bob, arrived (off the golf course!) to address the situation. He was there to make sure that the move got done and that we were satisfied. He was successful, telling us that charges that would normally be added for the hard items would be waived due to the miscommunication between parties, and offered to expedite the scheduling of an additional crew and truck to complete the move. We decided that it probably wasn't worth the extra $600 for what was left, but very much appreciated the offer to take care of us quickly and worry-free. The guys did an excellent job of moving, and Bob was extraordinary in his commitment to his customers. For example, while the pool table made it out of the house with a little difficulty, it required Herculean measures to get it into the new house. MGM did not give up and accomplished the improbable. I am very pleased with MGM and will recommend them to those I encounter. They are not the rock bottom cheapest (though I got an excellent bargain, apparently), but they displayed a very high level of ethics, customer service, and competence. read more

Those are not the correct facts at all. Here is exactly what happened as follows: Bob came in August to do a walk through (I should have known then to steer clear because we wasn't pleasant then either-whole other story), I told him my mom was coming later in August to help me pack and that a lot of the small trivial stuff would be packed etc., he says no problem give us a call and we'll come walk through again. proceed forward to early sept. I call Bob a full week before the move to do another walk through, he tells me he's in Nyc and can't come. Ok, no big deal. He calls me back Monday (now 2 days before he's to come pack) and tells me he requires a 5 hours minimum (never mentioned before) with 3 men. We had no where NEAR enough stuff to be packed to need that many men for that time frame. So I tell him we don't need 5 hours worth of packing so we will do that ourselves and see you for the move on Saturday. He proceeds to get extremely nasty with me and cancel the entire move. Heads up Bob, you're MOVERS, not packers. If you were clear with me up front about your 5 hour expectation to pack we would have never scheduled that. We were still going to use you to move our entire home. Plain and simple, you couldn't make the money you wanted and cancelled the whole thing. You don't punish people by bailing on them because they were efficient and got a lot of their own stuff packed. I stand by my review and we ended up getting a great no hassle company for much less money anyways read more

My move couldn't have gone better. MGM was fab from an on-time start to an early finish. The movers were super-careful with all of my stuff and got it all there safely, including a vintage oak library card catalogue that must have weighed as much as a Volkswagen. My boxes and all of my furniture was delivered and set in their places so quickly that the job cost less than what they said it would. And the movers themselves were very nice and totally unflappable. Altogether I was so pleased with MGM's service that I won't hesitate to use them again, or recommend them to friends. read more

We used MGM for a recent move. They estimated 8 hours but only took 5 which saved us money. I feel the experience was positive, Bob came to our house a week before the move to give an in person estimate of time. They came on time on the day of the move and made quick work. His guys were pleasant to work with and listened to our concerns and treated our things with care. I'm taking 1 star back because I paid $99 for extra insurance, because Bob is a good salesman and I was concerned I'd need it, but his guys were thoughtful and careful and we didn't need it. But, with insurance you never want it until you need it anyway, we just could have probably done without for this short move. I feel they did a good job overall, and in the end saved me money from the original quote, so I'm happy about that. read more

Total rip off...they called me almost everyday before my move...once they stuck me with that humongous over priced bill- I never heard a peep! 1 out of the 2 movers was lazy and a smart ass - run away from this company...they even charge you a fee for travel to your home and they lied about where they came from to ensure an additional 45 min charge. read more

I've used MGM to move to Florida. I have used professional movers in the past. My experience with MGM tops them all. They took great care to make sure my belongings were packed, shipped and delivered safely. On time and as promised. Even were able to hold a the delivery a day until my condo was ready. I now recommend them to all my friends and family. I always warn people not to pick the least expensive moving company. You truly get what you pay for. read more

Bob's team did a stand out job. They were extremely efficient, and handled all items with care. The night before Bob made the decision to add on another truck and another worker, due to the high temperatures expected during the move, and the cost primarily stayed the same. They were also very competitively priced compared to most of the big name companies. I would definitely recommend. read more
