The experience was dreadful, despite the initially friendly demeanor of the movers. They disassembled furniture haphazardly and were unable to reassemble it. To exacerbate the situation, a missing part required me to return to my old residence twice. The staff even requested that I drive them there to avoid taking the truck back, which I found unprofessional and irresponsible. They spent over an hour searching for the missing part and proceeded to bill me at the hourly rate during that time. The original quote was for three movers, but they sent four and charged me the higher rate. Both practices were highly unethical, especially since the expected time with three movers exceeded the actual time. The total charge was double that of a quoted move with a competitor. The staff suggested I had no reason to complain since a third party paid for the move, which was, to say the least, insulting. The piece of furniture in question was inexpensive but new. I attempted to fix it with brackets and reinforcements from a hardware store, but it still wobbled. Having moved myself several times, I have never lost a piece of furniture during a move. I wrote to the company, which refused to take responsibility and suggested I make a claim for the .60 cents per pound. I only used this moving company because it met the building's requirements. I would advise anyone to use this company with caution, as their practices are unethical. At least for this move, they were unprofessional and refused to take responsibility for my loss. I could excuse the unprofessionalism and higher rate, if the service was exemplary, but it was far from it. read more

Absolutely horrible experience. We hired this company to move our belongings, and during the process, my entire jewelry collection was stolen. When we brought this up, one of the first things they asked was if we had cameras--an immediate red flag. We contacted the company to report the theft, and they completely denied any wrongdoing, insisting their workers would never do such a thing. But the theft happened during the move, and there is no other explanation. We trusted them with our home and valuables, and they violated that trust in the worst way. Do not hire them. These movers damaged a teak bar (unknown falling item in truck) and an expensive metal lampshade which was not wrapped and was loose in the truck floor. They took the bar with them in the truck at the end of the day, and because I did not purchase more insurance they were only going to reimburse me $.60 per pound. On the bar this amounted to $18.00, but the bar replacement cost with assembly is $727.99 - a loss of $709.99 on the bar alone. They were going to reimburse me $1.80 for the lampshade, which is part of a $1000 floor lamp. They are not accepting responsibility for their negligence, stating that I did not purchase extra insurance so they are not going to make this whole. They also wanted to charge me 3% credit card fee which I negotiated to 1.5% - due to their refusal to accept a personal check - stating that I should have noticed this "policy" in the fine print on the contract. They also left my bed in pieces in the bedroom - did not re-assemble, did not mention it to me, and left one of the nightstands still wrapped in a moving blanket. I treated the crew with respect, bought them an expensive lunch and gave each of the 6 crew members $60 cash tip each at the end of the day. DO NOT USE THESE MOVERS, NOT CUSTOMER FRIENDLY. read more

Movers beware. We hired this local company to move us. They removed a 6' tall mirror from our residence and proceeded to leave it somewhere on the way to their truck (it never showed up). Then while moving an item in, they knocked a large expensive mirror off of the wall which was smashed. While it was falling off of the wall, it gouged out the drywall in several places. They knocked off the fuel cost and I never got my standing mirror. Then offer $12.00 to replace the other mirror and I'm stuck for damages to the wall. I have used Coutu Brothers multiple times due to my level of satisfaction each time. For this move, the crew showed right at 8:00. I was impressed by their congeniality and "can do" attitudes. The work ethic and hustle demonstrated was evidenced by the fact that my entire move was completed in three hours and I was paying them at 11:00. No wear or tear on my "stuff". They were quick, but careful and understood moving geometry in getting around corners and taking large objects through tight spaces. I hired Coutu for a move from Rhode Island to Cambridge,MA and while they did a great job of moving my belongings, they did steal from my 87 year old grandmother during the processes and left us all with a sense of unease and insecurity. I hired the movers to gather items from a few different locations in Rhode Island, one of them being my grandmothers home where I had been storing some furniture. The movers went and picked all of my things up and brought them to my new place in Cambridge. Once the movers arrived at my new location in Cambridge they quickly got to work unloading the truck and carrying items into my townhouse. There were 3 gentlemen there and I am not sure which one was the culprit but as they walked by the kitchen table where my grandmothers purse was, one of them pulled her wallet out while our backs were turned. The mover then went to the bathroom and emptied all cash and credit cards out of the Later that day when my grandma went to tip the gentlemen she said "I can't find my wallet" and the 3 movers heard her say this and she even repeated this statement. One of the movers kept eyeballing my grandmothers jewelry and when he was leaving he made a comment about what nice diamonds she had (keep in mind that 1) this guy knows where she lives 2) the wallet had been stolen at this point). At the time we didn't think much of this or the fact that my grandma couldn't find her wallet. After the job was complete I generously tipped each mover $100 and sent them on their way. I then proceeded to do what most people do when they get a new place and clean. I went to my bathroom and began cleaning and when I opened the under the sink cabinet, all the way in the back behind my toilet brush, was my grandmother's wallet which had been emptied of all cash and credit cards. There is no other way this wallet could have gotten to this location as I had JUST moved in and my grandma had not been there before and the movers were the only other people to enter the apartment. There is no other explanation for it. One of them robbed my grandma while we were all right there, they witnessed and 87 year old woman become nervous as she searched for her missing wallet. This was not the worst part of it. In my opinion, the worst was Bob, the owner. I contacted Bob to tell him of this and I politely said I understand things go wrong but this is an issue which must be addressed. On the feedback survey I also wrote this. Guess what, Bob never called and apologized. Nothing. Nada. Zippo. Zilche. He could not care less. He just told me to go file a police report. I highly advise against this company they clearly are untrustworthy and when something goes wrong they will not do anything about it. Very poor business practice and highly unethical. UPDATE: see screenshots proving the owners response to my negative review is a LIE! The robbery occurred 3/26/22 and I reported it the next day. It is now May and Bob has not made any attempt to reach out neither to me or my family. My grandma had so much stress from this she was a nervous wreck, my uncle wrote the whole experience on the after service survey, and I continuously reached out but BOB DID NOTHING BUT IGNORE AND BLOCK ME! read more

Due to issues with my closing, I had to schedule my move somewhat at the last minute. Coutu was very accomodating and had my dates available for packing and moving services. The crew was fantastic - I had the same team for both packing and moving, which made it a very seamless transition. I moved from Coventry to NK from a home of 27 yrs to a new condo. I had four men, 1 truck x 2 trips. They all were very professional, polite, respectful and considerate to where I wanted items put: Raoul, Jose x 2 and K? They were kind and a happy crew! I'm revising all my good reviews of these movers although let me be clear Scott is still the best and the last crew he brought on our third move Frankie, Scott Jr and Cash were great, but we did sustain some damage which I can understand can happen it's a fast paced get it done in a timely manner business but my trex stairs leading up to my front door were scratched by their hand truck bring in my large bureaus I should've never let them use that but everything was happening so fast also the movers who came with Scott on my previous move had wrapped my brand new hutch cabinet with that brown sticky moving tape and weren't careful to make sure the tape wasn't stuck to the wood itself but only on the brown wrapping paper so it was all over the beautiful wood and one of the glass shelves and took me hours to get off with goo gone which was an arduous task. When I put in the complaint the women who answered the phone was extremely nice but she has to put it through their claims department and it was denied saying their not responsible for any damage occurred in the move and that's in the fine print in the paper we signed! They sent us a letter denying our claim and only offering a mere $50 credit to us in return for us signing a form letter releasing them from any further claims on this which we won't be doing they can keep their $50. We moved with them 3 times in one year! Thanks to our realtor Karen Collie with Engel & Volkers who never found us the suitable housing in our contract with selling our home that she promised. Also our builders at Oak & Pallet & Defillipo that took over 8 months to build a raised ranch that was supposed to only be 2 or 3 months tops! we were left scrambling for places to live!!!!In all we feel since we were such good return customers with the movers we should have been treated better with our claims. And since we're extremely unhappy with the way our home turned out we might be moving again and I doubt I'll use this company because of that. read more

Once I was financially able to move out, a non-profit, veterans organization, called Operation Stand Down offered to help me move, via their partnership with Coutu Brothers. I was grateful. I was also hoping that the movers wouldn't talk down or insult me, just because of my homelessness. The movers arrived perfectly on time, communicated effectively, were efficient (and FAST and, handled my things with as much respect as they would, any other customer. Not only we're they courteous and respectful, they were warm and friendly, and said "thank you" repeatedly. Buyer beware: if your possessions are lost, stolen or damaged after your move with Coutu Bros. Moving, you'll have zero recourse if denied coverage by this mover and are likely to get nothing near the value of your items. We moved and Coutu Bros took our household furniture and items, stored it for a week (while we finished work in our new condo) and a week later moved our items into our condo. I wish I could say that the movers terrible complaining about how long the job would take was the worst of our issues but it pales in comparison to all the other issues. I opened a box of ceramic items, all broken. The fine print: Coutu says they don't cover items YOU boxed. DENIED. I did not receive a bin that held expensive wines and liquors. The fine print: Coutu says they aren't allowed to move alcohol so if they took it, they shouldn't have and won't be covering that. DENIED. That box we had of expensive video games (15-20 games), a Switch console, two expensive controllers, and more never made it back to our house. The fine print: Coutu tells us they'll give us 60 cents per pound for this. The box probably weighed 10 pounds. So they're going to give me $6 for items worth upwards of $1,200. HIGHWAY ROBBERY. We spent $4,500 for this move, had items stolen or lost, or broken (estimated near $2,000) and we can't do a darn thing about it. When asked about insurance coverage, Coutu told us that they offer the minimum required by law. P.S. Most homeowners policies don't cover moving (plus if you do file a claim, your premium is likely to increase). read more

I hired this company on the basis of what information they asked. They didn't come to see or give estimate. They showed up at 1pm, took only half of my belongings,, left at 3 pm and arrived in Ri at 4:30. They unloaded and we're gone by 6 pm and charged me $2500. Tgey acted like they were doing me a favor and I had to keep asking if they could fit another box. They broke my antique mirror and blamed the mirror for the glass falling and shattering on the vanity table. They never wrapped it correctly and they wouldn't pay for the value of replacing it. I had to replace it with a non bevel edge because it would have cost me over $350 to replace it. They only paid me $125.00 saying it was old and broken. I had that mirror for over 20 years and it was fine until they moved it. They were in such a hurry that they only moved my furniture and only a few boxes, leaving 50% of my belongings behind.. They went inside my room where all the boxes were and flatly refused to take any of them. They were unavailable to come back to pick up the rest of my belongings. I made a last ditch effort to find a mover to finish moving and it cost me another $2500. The owner of the company made only excuses and had no willingness to listen to my concerns. They wouldn't even return my phone call. I had to physically go over there just to see if I could reason with them. For the little they did to help me i could never recommend this company. Extra note: The owner is a liar saying I had twelve rooms The house was 960 square feet consisting of three bedrooms, a kitchen and living room, a half basement downstairs, and a small room filled with three exercise machine and a garage filled with sports equipment, 2 bikes and garden tools in a barrel. Where the other four or five rooms are, I have no idea what he's talking about. If he did his job right he would have come over to take a look. I had no idea how big his trucks were. It's not my business. It's HIS business to see what is needed and provide the trucks to fit it all. Instead, he left me stuck scrambling to find another mover to help me. I didn't even receive a courtesy call. It doesn't matter if the move was last week or last year. The point is that this man did not help me, his workers didn't secure my antique beveled mirror which would have cost me another $350 to replace. I only got $125. He said the mirror was old. Yes! That's what an antique mirror is!! It should have been taped up to secure it from falling off the frame during the bumpy ride to RI! So many flaws with this moving company. Everything from poor communication to improper evaluation of what would be moved, and no estimate and damages improperly covered, I'm supposed to guess how big his truck is? Not only that but the movers were in a huge hurry and they only wanted to move furniture but not my boxes. This guy moves too many houses a day to take any time to move mine. His five hour job with three men cost me $2500. ! What a horrendous experience! Took me months to recover from the stress and they did the minimum to relieve me from it. read more

Coutu Brothers moved us in December. They showed up early, and copped attitude when I mentioned it. Zack was hollering about our lack of preparedness ...in my front yard! I nearly fired them on the spot. We have found scrapes, scratches & dings (new ones) on every wooden piece of furniture, when I mentioned it, two at once said it was there...without even looking at the piece! One painted wooden piece was deeply scratched, obviously something put on top and pushed back. Our dining table is broken...an integrated leaf roughly removed...perhaps reparable, perhaps not. We filed a claim, and were informed that since we signed a form accepting that "some damage" could occur...so, too bad folks, suck it up! We decided to use Coutu Movers based on the Yelp reviews and unfortunately we were not 100% satisfied with the service they provided. Ultimately, they got the job done, but not without a few hiccups. As a background, this was a condo to condo move. Both locations are about a 3 min drive from each other. The movers arrived on time and got straight to work upon arrival, which was much appreciated. After about 2 hours of moving things from the old location, I left to go meet Coutu at our new location. At this point, there were only a few large items left to move. Well, let's just say it took them 5 hours to move all of my belongings out of the first location. They apparently got "lost" when driving to our new location and it took them about an hour to drive 0.4 miles (no traffic). They began at 8am and didn't get to my new location until 1pm. My china cabinet was damaged and brought in with a broken door. They used Gorilla Glue to fix one of the doors and thought that I would not notice. Also, my very expensive 10 ft mirror is scratched on the top. Lastly, I was never told that I couldn't pay with a check. When I tried to pay them by check, they told me they only expect cash or credit card. Like I said before, they moved all of our belongings which is ultimately the goal, but I think the process was dragged out. We would have appreciated more honesty when it came to the damaged items, payment methods and time in between locations. read more

They packed up my kitchen and helped with some last minute packing of my office that I couldn't get to. They were good about asking where things went in new location. At first the company came in and was very professional, giving there names and introducing themselves.But when the tenant left them unattended and the owner of the house they were moving from started observing them and asked a few questions, the head guy became irate and rudely explained we were not the customers and " we never have people breathing down our necks like you are doing!" I hired Coutu Bros based on their quick quote and availability for my move to MA to RI. Moving day started fine and went down hill from there. The 3 man crew left a 6 feet tall by 3 feet wide mirror in the hallway of my building and dropped a dresser into wall, breaking another mirror at my new home. I was told I'd have a claim to fill out for the broken mirror and damaged wall and they offered to waive their fuel charge to compensate for a huge mirror I hired them to move. They said it was my negligence to not do a walk through. Apparently, it was my fault they left it sitting in the hallway of my apartment complex. In the end, my claim amounted in compensation of $12. Definitely didn't cover me having to drive 80 miles each way to get the mirror they left behind, replacing the mirror they broke and certainly not the repairs to the wall. Save yourself the hassle and hire a reputable and professional company to move your belongings. read more

Everything was taken out of the spot and put into the new one with no damage or fuss. 4/5 stars because I felt they could've been more transparent with their pricing, I wasn't pleased that they charged us an hour of travel to drive 15 mins away (no highway either) & that 25 minutes somehow rounds up to an hour. Still, their service & process was so impressive that I'd have pay the extra cash. I would've preferred to have it out in the open is all. I've had some bad movers in my lifetime. AND I've had just a couple of good ones. Coutu Brothers was one of the good ones! Yesterday Coutu Brothers (specifically Kevin and Ben) moved the contents of half my house to a POD yesterday in preparation for some renovation and structural work. They arrived on time. Kevin took the lead and was tremendously knowledgeable about everything involved in the move as well as his company's rules and regulations. They had my stuff packed up and on the POD (and the outside stuff moved behind the shed) in 2 and 1/4 hours. In and out in no time and they wrapped every single piece of furniture that was damageable. I'm so pleased I hired them based on reviews by other Yelpers. When it's time to move the contents of my POD back into the house in (hopefully) a couple of months. I'll be calling Coutu Brothers again and requesting the Kevin and Ben team! read more

The one star is for the hard working guys who did all the heavy lifting. They were great. The move out process overall was a complete nightmare. We moved a year ago and the experience is still a lingering anxiety. Insist that they come out and evaluate your home and belongings so they come with the right truck and the right amount of people to do the work. My husband and I were up until 230 AM cleaning out what was left behind scattered all over the house. I requested that extra boxes be brought and the guys had none. The truck was too small and we had to wait two hours for them to drive the packed truck, get in another empty one and bring it back to "finish". Moving in to our new house went much better but they were woefully unprepared for the move out. We had to rent a uhaul the next day to clear out the garage-all rooms, including a full basement, was disclosed to the owner when booking. I never hid the fact that we had a lot of things to move. They were not our first choice of movers but we had no option but to hire them as they were the only company available on the day we needed. Coutu brothers just completed a move for me from Rumford, RI to Seekonk, Ma. These guys worked so incredibly hard all day in over 100 degree temps and were pleasant and kind on top of it!
