So many food choices, so we decided on their Shepards Pie for this visit . . . and we were certainly not disappointed. We've been to Ireland and know a good Shepards Pie and loved their offering. Our family goes to O'Toole's in downtown Libertyville regularly. The menu has a wide range of options depending on your diet preference and hunger level and the specials are usually interesting. The kids LOVE the amazingly flexible bento boxes and fun kiddie cocktail options. O'Tool's has some of the best burgers in the area and lets you sub out various sides. Their deviled eggs are great, plus there are lots of vegetarian options. Their deviled eggs, whipped feta appetizer, and so many other vegetarian dishes are excellent. The cocktail, wine, and beer list is extensive. Every server we've had is so helpful and nice and the outdoor patio is gorgeous. I was told to give it another chance but when I do I go at least 3 times before posting a review. The service all 3 times was spot on Amazing. Deshawn who I come to find out is one of the managers was spot on perfect. Checking with tables around us asking if everything is ok . You don't get that kind of service anymore. Our luck we actually got the same waitress twice (Lauren) it's staff like these 2 young ladies that make the ending experience amazing. I actually at one point thought I was at the (The Greggory) eating as the food and service was spot on. Delicious, and a really pleasant surprise to have such well-known local and hard to get nationally craft beers on tap. An update: This is our new go-to for wings! We used to go to a national chain that "specializes" in wings, but post global pandemic the quality there tanked. So we tried local. We usually order carryout, and our order has been perfect every time. The designated carryout parking spots in the back make running in super convenient, too. Had an early dinner for two at Timothy O'Toole's Libertyville--great experience overall. The Pork Belly Bao Buns were fantastic, and the Little Timmy Burger with tater tots was flavorful and satisfying. The Mexi Cali Soup was interesting, but the Deviled Eggs fell short. O'Toole's Holy Water cocktail was okay but a bit too sweet. Service and ambiance were excellent. One downside--there's a 3% service charge for credit card payments, which isn't a welcome surprise, so be prepared. read more

This is a cool place in Libertyville which has a ton of restaurants and bars to choose from. They have a very unique covered/enclosed patio area that they open the windows for in the summer and close them up for extra seating in the winter. We were supposed to sit in this area, but our larger group could not fit out there when we went as the tables that were filled were scattered throughout the area. We sat inside and it was fine. It does get a trifle loud inside when they are busy, so I recommend going with a smaller group just so you can hear them. I was told to get the Little Timmy burger as many ordered it and said it was delicious. They had a couple burgers to choose from, but I'll have to come back with my Burger Club to truly try them. On this occasion, I got their blackened chicken sandwich and it was wonderful! Perfect amount of blackening spices and the fries were good too. I then ordered the pretzel bread pudding for dessert and got the last one. Holy Cow is this awesome. I'd come back just for that. Soooooo delicious! Service was on the spot and offered great advice on dishes. Plenty of TVs for sports and a great atmosphere for families, friends, work events and more! read more

Grabbing a group for a Saturday dining experience on this pseudo-winter evening and O'Toole's was the 4-top consensus. Good choice, peeps! Arrived after making a reservation on Open Table...this place was in full swing with holiday decor and frivolity/festivities. Several large parties in the separated party rooms and the bar was packed! Nicely decorated bar area and busy, happy, staff were pleasant. Holiday drink specials sounded great but this crowd opted for classic Grey Goose Martinis and local brews. Good recommendations for apps (the Reuben Eggrolls (fab!) and the healthier Mezze Platter) and beer by our cordial & efficient server, Sayre D, made for happy customers. After apps and beverages, we ordered the crispy Fish & Chips, the Shepherd's Pie, the Derby Burger--with Tots!-- and the standout Orange Chicken Sticky Rice Bowl. So the table all liked the Orange Chicken and the Blueberry BBQ-sauced Derby Burger with crispy bacon and tots, but the Fish & Chips Platter and the Shepherd's Pie missed the mark as they seemed to be lacking in flavor and pizzazz, compared to the rest of the menu. For the perfect ending some coffees and a shared decadent, gooey Cookie Skillet were ordered and enjoyed. The service staff, including the host, were on point for a busy Saturday night. The food was good and worthy of four stars. We'll be back to try some other recommendations (and ask for Sayre as our server). Use Open Table to reserve a spot on the heated, enclosed patio, or reserve an inside spot for your family party--- all sizes of parties will enjoy themselves. We ordered starters to share. We had the Mezze Board which was very good. The whipped feta was excellent. The nachos were a hit and everyone enjoyed them. The whipped feta was the standout. Complimented with honey and warm pita it was a great start to the meal. Our group had a variety of Rueben's, salads, and bowls. I had the teriyaki bowl with chicken. It was loaded with rice, vegetables and a sweet teriyaki sauce. Even though this is a sports bar, we did not feel we were in a bar and it was nicely decorated for the holidays. read more

I'll begin by saying they lost a full point from the start when the waiter told us they had NO draft beer due to a mechanical problem...... in deciding to come here for dinner with another couple, we pushed for this place over another choice after I saw O'Toole had Guinness and the other place didn't. My pal is a huge draft Guinness fan and all they offered us was bottles or cans and no Guinness. He then chose a canned beer only to be told they were out of that too. I thought he was going to walk out but we stayed and had an above average meal. Additionally, although we had a reservation for inside the restaurant, it was a beautiful evening and before going to a table asked if we could eat on the patio. Sorry, we were told, it's all booked....except it wasn't full and there were never fewer than 3 open tables out there the entire time we were there. My Bacon jam burger was excellent.... Great flavor, beef and well put together. The Cobb with chicken also was well enjoyed with tasty dressing. The Tiny Tim's smash was rated average and the American smash burger was anything but a smash as the bun disintegrated due to too much sauce. Our waiter was trying to be goofy/funny but did check on us several times. You'd think after the obvious disappointment in not having drafts or another selected beer they'd have comped them or tried to make amends. Although two managers stopped by to see how things were, it's hard to complain about your meal when out with new friends who gave in to your suggestion of which place to eat at...... next time we'll let our friends choose and avoid the embarrassment! read more

Wow. The French onion soup was awful. Rather than a nice consommé type broth, it was horribly salty thick, cloudy base. The Sonoma wrap had 4 or 5 chunks of overcooked chicken and at least a cup of uncooked frozen corn that made the wrap soggy on arrival and dripped clear fluid while eating. Caesar salad chicken was way over cooked. No flavor in either dish. Our server, when he did show up, was asked for lemonade had to be reminded. We had to ask two others to get the check. He showed up to show us how to press the 20% tip selection and quickly had it approved. With that tip, my lunch of soup and wrap was over $40. My friend was charged the same. $80 plus dollars for lunch that was awful with no one to approach about it. The building is beautiful. read more

I got a reuben sandwich. It was piled high with corned beef, but it didn't taste like a reuben. The bread wasn't toasted, but warmed. The sauerkraut tasted like they dug it out of a jar and plopped it on the bread while piling the meat. The thousand island dressing was scarce. NOT a $20 sandwich. Without a doubt, O'Toole's is a fun time on St. Patricks' day. You have the bagpipe players, lots of customers wearing leprechaun balloon hats, and just about everywhere you look has the color green. Although it's the exact party you want to be in for the feast day, it may be smarter ordering to go. Not only do you bypass the outrageously long line (though you're waiting a little bit while the staff sorts out the chaos around them), but you'll get to sink your teeth into that amazing, classic Reuben sandwich sooner. As far as Rubens go, the one I ordered from O'Toole's makes the top of my list. A buttered marbled rye bread, stuffed with corned beef, sauerkraut, Swiss cheese, and a layer of thousand island dressing, which is then pressed and toasted until the crust transforms into something crisp, shiny, and golden brown. I think the best Reuben sandwiches are filled generously with sliced corned beef, has the right amount and not too much of the sauerkraut, and are crisped but not where it becomes too dried out, allowing all the ingredients to come together to create a whole melody of flavors. If O'Toole's just put a little bit more of that dressing on this sandwich, I could even say it could probably be the best Reuben I've ever had. Our family recently hosted a celebration of life event at O'Toole's in Libertyville. We were looking for a private space large enough to accommodate 75 people. The 2nd floor event space was beautiful and absolutely perfect! The brick walls, expansive private bar with a mix of round tables, high tops and an area with leather chairs & fireplace for more intimate conversations. The room also has a small stage for music, guest speakers or dancing. The food was delicious, and the service was wonderful. I can't recommend this event space enough! read more

We've visited this and other O'Toole's locations in the past and our experiences have varied. The downtown Libertyville spot is an undeniably popular watering hole located just south of the historic Petranek's Pharmacy. Sports bar-wise, it fits somewhere in the middle of my list. My problem with sports bars in general is their conversation-unfriendly NOISE. I wouldn't describe O'Toole's chow as innovative, but 'pub favorites plus trendy items' fits like a glove. On this occasion, my Misssus and I visited for lunch with a group of 15 on (gasp!) Black Friday. We had a reservation, but customers arriving after us had at least a 30-minute wait and the bar area was SRO. Our server, experienced and friendly, was on the ball. But evidently the kitchen was slammed. One cheeseburger came out great but another arrived in the guise of a blackened hockey puck. A French dip arrived cold. A companion said his bacon turkey cheddar melt with tater tots was mouth-watering. Two Classic Reubens (delish!) were ordered but inexplicably arrived 20+ minutes apart. The orange chicken sticky rice bowl was actually not bad for a non-Asian restaurant, but the Jerk Cuban sandwich was an adverso fracaso. First time to this location and I loved it here. Went for lunch and the patio was open but we chose to eat inside and we were seated right away. Our server was super friendly and energetic. We placed or drink orders and our server brought it right away and when our glasses were half empty there he goes with another full glass for us. I ordered the bbq chicken wrap and it was delicious also more food then I anticipated. Very nice serving size for the price. The wings were also great. Good size portion. Our food didn't take too long after we ordered which was nice. The manager walks around making sure everyone is having a good time and if there is anything that we need. I would suggest parking in the parking garage because finding street parking can be a challenge in Libertyville.
