Found my new favorite bar restaurant when I am back in town! I always love the full bar, but they had Shepards pie, perfect in 20 degree winter time. Staff was so kind and attentive. They have a huge patio, with heaters so even in winter, you can enjoy the outdoor feeling.

An update: This is our new go-to for wings! We used to go to a national chain that "specializes" in wings, but post global pandemic the quality there tanked. So we tried local. We usually order carryout, and our order has been perfect every time. The designated carryout parking spots in the back make running in super convenient, too. We highly recommend the honey sriracha wings - perfect blend of heat and sweet. The Rueben is also a personal favorite.

Had an early dinner for two at Timothy O'Toole's Libertyville--great experience overall. The Pork Belly Bao Buns were fantastic, and the Little Timmy Burger with tater tots was flavorful and satisfying. The Mexi Cali Soup was interesting, but the Deviled Eggs fell short. O'Toole's Holy Water cocktail was okay but a bit too sweet. Service and ambiance were excellent. One downside--there's a 3% service charge for credit card payments, which isn't a welcome surprise, so be prepared.

Orange Chicken Sticky Rice Bowl...outstanding as was the Derby Burger.

It is a noisy place full of older customers that know everyone in the place. Lots of customers hugging the staff, talking with the owners, and other tables. A great atmosphere if you are a local. One of the owners even suggested carrot cake for our desert. Really good by the way. We did see a number of regulars tables that were receiving complimentary appetizers. I get it, but you should treat first time customers the same to make them repeat customers? The issue was with service and how we were treated after we had to get service. Our server disappeared once our main course was ordered. Yes the place was packed, but the server made sure she kept on touching base with the regulars tables and we received less attention. Well like no attention. Well like we had to go to the bar to one of the owners to get our check. Well and when my significant other tried to comment that we had a lack in service the owner walked away from us. She turned a really nice first time experience into a never going back and write a bad review experience. (And my significant other was mad the whole evening, which made the event worse for me.) So even though I wanted to at least give them a 2 star review I had to tie it back to the tip we gave of $1. Regretfully we will not be going back to The Green Room.

I ordered the Pad Thai with tofu, the staple menu item I order each time I visit. My guest ordered the Mongolian beef. My pad Thai came out visibly different than times past. It looks almost watered down and the tofu was not coated and seared with the beautiful crust it normally has. I ate it and it tasted... sour. Normally this pad Thai leans savory over sweet, but this time it just straight up tasted sour. The tofu was nothing to write home about, which is typically not the experience I have here. The Mongolian beef tasted like it had more sear on the meat than actual beef. It tasted over-charred. The rice and veggies were good, but that's kind of a simple feat. I ordered the Pomegrantate martini which was good. The space was also very hot, I understand it's a hot day and a busy restaurant but my legs were dripping in sweat the entire hour we were there. I will give them a try again, because I know from previous experiences the pad Thai was usually great. That tofu is what I keep coming back for! Hopefully next time it'll meet my expectations. This was this past weekend on Friday night.

They have a little lobby area for waiting but definitely not for dining. I needed to bring something to our family meet up and didn't feel like cooking or baking anything. I went on Yelp to find Filipino empanadas and Salamat Po came up. Perfect! I called the number and a polite gentleman answered. I asked him if they sold empanadas by the dozen and I needed it by the next day and they were able to accommodate. Picked 2 dozen up the next day and the price was reasonable - $2.50/empanada. I had to test one out as soon as I got home and they were perfect! Everyone at the party said they were really good. So will definitely be coming back here to order. Brought my mom with me and she was able to confirm that Salamat Po also caters. They had various Filipino food (Ulam) available when we visited. I guess their menu changes daily. It's set up turo-turo style (literally "point-point"), so you get to pick from the hot trays of freshly cooked dishes. On our visit, they offered around 8-10 entrees, each one looking just as tempting as the next. We ordered lechon kawali, BBQ pork, pork sisig, dinuguan, and pinakbet to go.The lechon kawali is deep fried pork belly . It was golden, crunchy with a juicy center that held up to every dip. The BBQ pork had that familiar sweet-savory glaze that sticks to your fingers. Pork sisig was tangy, and just the right amount of heat. The dinuguan aka chocolate meat is a hearty stew of pork simmered in vinegar, garlic, and pig's blood was rich and earthy. The pinakbet kept it grounded with bitter melon and bagoong bringing contrast and balance to the meat-heavy spread. We met RJ, one of the owners--welcoming, clearly passionate, and proud of the flavors he's putting out. You can tell it's personal for him, and that energy shows in the food.

Our server Chad explained the menu in detail, offered recommendations, and took great pride in the restaurant. Everything is made from scratch, and they have a beautiful open kitchen. We started with the octopus, which our friends and Chad both recommended, and it lived up to the hype. They sous vide it so it's super tender, then crisp it for that little crunch you want in an octopus appetizer. The romesco and chorizo combo had us scraping the plate clean. For dinner, my husband had the hanger steak served with a large bone filled with bone marrow, along with brioche, truffle butter, and the Aligot and Brussels sprouts for sides. The Brussels and butternut squash were sweet, spicy, crispy, and salty - just amazing. I had the monkfish, which is very similar to lobster, and it was delicious! For dessert, we shared the crème brûlée, and like everything else we ate tonight, we left no crumbs. We can't wait to go back!
