All of the roofing companies were quite busy due to recent storm damage. Some didn't return calls, and we even had a couple no-show on scheduled estimates. Matt K, in contrast, was extremely responsive and reliable. We left a message on a weekend, and he called back that same weekend, and scheduled a time for an estimate within a few days. He came for the estimate at the appointed time, and promptly emailed us a detailed, thorough, and competitive bid. He then answered all of our questions thoroughly and knowledgeably about the proposed work and process. Matt was easy to talk with, explained about roofing in terms that we could readily understand, did not up-sell, and provided honest evaluations and recommendations from his decades of roofing experience. Shortly after that, while we were still evaluating our options, we had a leak concern. In response, Matt was able to juggle schedules to fit our replacement in quickly. His crew (led by Brendan), was efficient and careful, and were able to complete the tear-off and replacement in a day, even though winds reached up to 20 mph some of the time. They also left our property neat and tidy. Someone who saw them work told me that he would without reservation "heavily suggest using them again!!!" (His three exclamation marks, not mine). This was done before I purchased the home but emails with the company and city workers confirm that this was their responsibility to maintain for one year. During a rainstorm, water from the flooded street spiraled down the sinkhole and came up out the other end through the concrete they laid in my basement, rapidly filling my basement with 5 inches of murky water. The City of Minneapolis called this a disaster and PULLED THEIR PERMITS. The company has repeatedly said that water does not flow upwards and is refusing to cooperate with me. Someone please educate this plumbing company about water pressure. Do not hire. Go with a mature professional that will take responsibility for their work and not compromise your home.

The entire crew appeared to be "perfectionists". The roller operator must have gone over the driveway 10-12 times. He even got off his machine once to hand pick-up small pieces of asphalt that had gotten on the top skirt of the driveway. Fourth, my neighbor got a new driveway a few days later by a different company. I asked him if he would share how much he paid. It was $3,100 more than I paid for about the same sized driveway! Stone Arch Landscapes and Alex completed a project for me in 2022, and within a couple of months…read morethe retaining wall started leaning, and the pavers dropped along the wall. This wall is now out of plumb by 3-1/2" over a 4'-0" area, so out of plumb by almost 1 inch per foot. The pavers have large 1/2" plus gaps in this area, and there is concern that this wall is going to fail, and will fall. Alex has been notified numerous times each year about this issue, and he has refused to respond or answer my calls, texts or emails, he is ignoring the problem. When looking back, Alex failed to acquire a permit or to notify the city, which is required with any wall that is over 4'-0" in height, and he did not complete an engineering review which is also a requirement for walls of this height. Because of the lack of response from Alex and his refusal to warrant his work, I am forced to get quotes to repair and will need to pursue legal means to resolve the issue. Beware.

We have referred them to family and friends--three of those referrals have resulted in projects--and until recently, trusted them without hesitation. Historically, price transparency was something they were willing to provide. Unfortunately, something has changed. Most recently, we were quoted $30-35K for a relatively straightforward mudroom remodel and back door installation. When the formal bid came in at a single lump sum number over $40K with some modest scope additions, we asked for additional transparency into that singular number to understand how much each part of the project was costing so we could determine where adjustments could be made. We were told that a further breakdown of the lump sum would not be provided. Over the next two weeks, we removed multiple significant items from the project scope, yet the total price barely changed in response. We asked repeatedly for greater transparency to understand what was still comprising the lump sum price we were being quoted and never received it. At a certain point, the math just did not add up, and it became increasingly difficult to reconcile the number we were being quoted by Plekkenpol with the project scope. When we expressed frustration with the lack of clarity, the response was dismissive and unhelpful. We were told that regardless of project size--even on significantly larger projects--additional price transparency would not be shared and that we should trust them that we are getting the best price. To be clear, this was not about the money--it was about transparency and partnership. We simply wanted to know what we were being charged for. Because Plekkenpol would not tell us how they arrived at their lump sum price, we ultimately chose to end our long-standing relationship and move on. We recently recommended to another family that they consider Plekkenpol, but after this experience, feel obligated to advise them not to proceed due to Plekkenpol's unwillingness to provide transparency in pricing.
