I have come to Mi Casa Grill before for brunch, but this was my first time coming for Happy Hour. Whatever meal you are having, the food is still delicious and the staff was attentive. Our server Chevo was running around but got everyone's order correct. The food came out hot and beautifully presented. While not a big place, they were able to accommodate a party of 10 (with reservations). You can really feel how hard this small family business is working to make your food experience pleasant. TDLR: My brother choked on a large piece of plastic in his meal, and they gave us 50% off the single dish. My family came here for breakfast for Mother's Day. The place is nicely decorated and had about 1 or 2 customers already. 2 dishes came out at the same time while the other 3 came to the table a few minutes later. The food was ok. My parents got the Mi Casa Desayuno. The waitress told my dad they were out of the fruit salad, which was weird, since the place had just opened. I guess they never had fruit in the first place. My brother choked on a large piece of plastic in his Tres Leches French Toast. I told one of the male staff members there was plastic in his dish, and he just said, "Sorry, it was probably the plastic from the bread's packaging," and then walked away. A few minutes later, I saw the waitress and pulled her aside to discreetly tell her there was plastic in my brother's meal. She told me she wanted to see it ( kind of with a tone of 'I don't believe you'), and I brought her over to the dish to show her. She didn't say anything, so I said we would happily pay for the other dishes, but could my brother's meal be comped for the choking hazard? The waitress turned and went to the kitchen, to, I guess, talk to someone about it. The waitress came back out, took the dish away, probably to show whoever was in the kitchen. A while later, she came back out with the check, but did not bother to explain to us what the plan was from there. We did see a 50% markdown on my brother's dish. It was really awkward because the waitress did not have a very pleasant or inviting attitude; she stood there glaring as we reviewed the bill and figured out the payment method. There was a serious lack of communication (not due to a language barrier; we are a Spanish-speaking family) and an unnecessary, blasé and mean demeanor from the waitress on Mother's Day. read more

Came here for lunch on a Monday afternoon. I was working in the area and chose this gem. Inside it's beautiful and very lively. The wood slab tables are very nice. The mural in the back is spectacular. I ordered the Spicy Prawns Plate with refried beans, rice and homemade tortillas. Check the photos! The flavor was incredible! On our second visit, the experience was not as positive. When we arrived on a Sunday just before noon, the dining room was almost full. Besides the communal high table, and the outside dining, there was only one table for six inside. The server didn't want to give the table for six to our group of 4, so she made us stand around while she asked the busboy to clear one small table. When we sat down, we realized that the table is really suitable for two, as it was really tight for 4. Since there were no other tables for 4 available, we accepted the arrangement. We were peeved though when later on we saw a family of 4 came in and they gave them the table for six. We looked at the menu and it looked like breakfast items were still in effect. There were no burritos or chile rellenos or mole which we had last time. We ordered the breakfast enchiladas, chilaquiles, a chimichanga, and I requested and got the chile relleno. While the food was enjoyable, the server was not as attentive or friendly as our first visit. No one checked in with us or refill water, until we are ready for the bill. I've eaten here at least 6-7 times in the past year. I love their menudo and drinks but I was a little disappointed in the portions I got this time. Barely any tripe and no oregano or chile de arbol. I looked at my pictures I took the last few times and I could really see the difference in portions. I was really disappointed. I really love the flavor of the menudo so I will give it one more try some other day. Hopefully I have a better experience next time because I will be sad if I have to find another place for menudo. All my other experiences were great so that's why I'm willing to give it another try. read more

Mi Casa Grill is truly a gem! Just parking nearby you smell the delicious food being cooked up in the kitchen. This restaurant is beautiful and you know it is good when many of us locals are there on a Monday at lunch ready to eat. I love their brunch and got chilaquiles rojo with steak. I came here at night. It was cold even though it was summer time. But that's Bay Area. We sat down and ordered and the food was OK. It was fine, but not great. Also, the portions are much smaller and cost more. That's true everywhere but where I usually had food to take home, I finished everything. The people working there were quite nice as usual. And the food came out in a timely fashion. This was good because it's been a while since we've been here. I didn't realize how late it was but as it got closer to their time for closing, the crowd in the dining room dwindled down. There were a couple of to go requests. I'll be back, but it may be a while because I'm not eating out as much, but also, the prices. I may need to go down the menu to check out the tacos and such so that I can get something at a better price point for my wallet. read more

I came here for happy hour with friends. Great deal on happy hour items. And nice margaritas for $10. We ordered empanadas, tacos, and ceviche and everything tasted wonderful. I like that each empanada was a different flavor, something for everyone. The ceviche had a lot of avocado and veggies, and it tasted fresh. I will be back! I was surprised how busy they were around 5-6pm. Glad business is good. The wall art inside is a little bit weird. There was a picture of a lady holding a naked man-child? I would post a picture of the food if I could. All the tables around me had food and we sat there with a glasses of water and menus. Literally. Tables of people came and left, and we decided to leave once the patrons who walked in about 15 minutes after us, sat down and within 5 minutes or so had their order taken. Stopped by on the way back from the bay to Sacramento. I was surprised how busy they were on a Monday around noon! We wanted to sit outside with our dog, and the patio was completely full. So we waited about 15 minutes to be seated. The inside was clean and aesthetically pleasing but everyone wanted to be outside enjoying the patio and the weather! The servers were very kind, but unfortunately we felt we waited a very long time to get our food, water, silverware and the check. By the time we sat down almost everyone eating had left, so I thought we would be served pretty quickly. We asked for a sparkling water and they brought it out within minutes, but we had to ask 5 times for them to bring us some ice water for my boyfriend. It was not pleasant for him to watch me drink my water while he waited about 30 minutes for his water. When we got our appetizer (the giant flauta) they didn't give us any plates or silverware so we had to wait another 5 or so minutes to get our utensils to actually eat. They just seemed unorganized in how they served us. Not sure why, because it was pretty empty while we were eating. The food was actually very delicious! The flauta had some slow cooked pork which we enjoyed thoroughly. We also ordered the esquite (corn with epazote and chunks of cotija cheese), this was soooo good! Definitely for people who like some spice! Next, we ordered quesabirria tacos and some regular tacos- al pastor, and carne asada. The quesabirria tacos were good, although the meat was very fatty. But we really enjoyed their al pastor tacos. They were juicy and flavorful. Overall, we loved their food, and the servers were personable and even offered our dog a water. This is my second time coming here, but to actually dine in. I came here before for a drink, which btw, the drinks look and taste delicious. The place is really nice inside, clean looking and bright. The server was nice and very attentive. We came during the lunch rush. We ordered the nachos with pollo asado, sopes (pollo and al pastor) and an HorchaLatte. The nacho portion was large and filling. We asked for a side of their habanero salsa which was The sopes were cooked perfectly and had all the right flavors. The Horchatta Latte was delicious, it's really the Horchatta. Next time I'll add a shot of espresso to really make it kick. Over all it was a good experience. Lots of light inside and good service. We will be back, especially to try the brunch! read more

This modern Mexican restaurant is completely different from the decades-long Chinese place that was on this site. I don't recognize it and I washed dishes there as a teenager! Everything is bright, colorful and clean. They have a full bar and I ordered a Classic Margarita, spicy, because sometimes I rank Mexican places by their margs. It passed, was tasty and spicy...but one of the smaller margaritas I've ever been served. The guacamole and homemade chips were great and we got spicy salsa as requested. My sister had Tacos de Plata which she liked, and my Baja Fish Tacos were colorful, flavorful and delicious. Not quite what I had in Baja but much better than eating in FL Mexican places! Prices aren't cheap but then were aren't eating street tacos. Service was friendly, prompt and personable. I'm sure it's family run. We were the only table customers when we sat down but it was filling up when we left. We will be back. read more

Mi Casa Grill brings a bit of a refresh to San Pablo Ave! I appreciate the fun variety of their menu, the vibrant decor, and super cool staff. We've dabbled in the menu here including the chips & guac, pupusas, flautas, Caesar salad, fajitas, burrito, nachos, and the super tacos (which come with a crisp tortilla over a soft tortilla, cheesy inside, choice of protein, and guac/sour cream/pico de gallo). Every dish is pretty solid here and you can feel a strong sense of community, family love, and a passion for what's on your plate which I love. The drink menu is fun, I love the spicy marg. I did notice their cocktail menu expanding and also an expansion to serving brunch. The Tres Leches French Toast and Cubano Benedict sound divine and so do the other marg flavors including strawberry, passionfruit, or raspberry. With competitive pricing, parking, and a million more dishes to try, I'll be coming back soon to enjoy a taste of Mi Casa. read more

A Richmond gem! The owner has created a lovely environment to eat delicious, fresh, Mexican food. I have had their enchiladas (both green and red mole) and the sauces were amazing. I have also had a taco sampler of chicken, carnitas and carne asada--all yummy but the chicken and carnitas were my favorites. Everything is super fresh and flavorful--even the fluffy rice and the beans. The thick corn tortillas are made fresh and some of the best I have eaten. This place has gotten nasty. I called in my pick-up order for carne asada. We live down the street and picked it up right away. What I ate of it before getting grossed out was tough. Like sawing into a leather insole. Then the hair. The long black hair that was wrapped around my tongue. Pulling this out of my mouth in a spiral was enough to make me lurch. Called them back tk let them know. I wasn't mean about, just thought they should tell the kitchen staff to put their hair up. He apologized but didn't offer a refund, or anything to amend it. Great spot and I really enjoyed having breakfast here. It has a unique menu with lots of options I'm always looking forward to trying.

We paid with a credit card without being informed beforehand that a 3% credit card fee would be tacked on. I don't have an issue with businesses passing on credit card fees to its customers IF you tell us beforehand and give us the choice to pay cash. I'm removing one star for this. Although the food tastes good and the staff is welcoming, it took a looooong time before we were served our meals on a busy Friday night with the restaurant full. Having a 6:30 reservation only meant getting seated at our table promptly. I'd suggest going after the rush. read more

Since I was by myself, I asked to order for takeout. The waiter with glasses and man bun was okay. He gave me a menu and came back to get my order. However, no one asked me if I would like a glass of water while I waited or showed me where I could sit. The other waiter was making drinks and quickly, but politely, brought my food and said thank you. No forks or napkins in the bag.
