I didn't realize I had the food from this restaurant back during the pandemic and actually quite liked it (see my previous review below). I just happened to stop here on my way to the Richmond Marina where I could get my steps on a rainy day since it's paved and/or planked. I remembered the $15.99 Sopa de Pollo from the last time because they provided a whole chicken leg in their chicken soup. This time they wisely cut the poultry up into pieces, and along with some chopped carrot and celery, they contributed nicely to the hot broth (Photo 9). Now instead of going with the predictable Mexican selections, I had a hankering for the $14.99 Club Sandwich. I haven't had one since I had the same impulse in a SF Chinatown coffee shop a few months back. Hankerings come up periodically. Their club sandwich was much more girthy than the Chinatown version with a generous amount of deli turkey meat, bacon strips, slices of avocado, cheddar cheese, lettuce, and tomato stacked between three slices of toasted white bread (Photo 8). It was such a mouthful they didn't bother quartering it, but that didn't bother me. I devoured it along with a small but essential side of fries. Decently priced and quick service! I come to this plaza often to get some starbucks or make a quick run to CVS, but I never tried the taqueria. I do see a lot of people come and go, so I thought I would check it out. I came on a Friday during lunch time, and there was about 5 other people in there with me. I was able to place an order quickly, and it took maybe about 15 minutes to get my food. [[HIGHLIGHT]]They have good prices, and the restaurant is really big, a lot of seating available.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I tried the birria tacos and they were really good! They did seem a little bit cold, which was odd, but the flavors and the consommé was good. My first experience with La Lupita was takeout, so take this review with a grain of salt. Got the regular nachos and the beef burrito. The food is decently priced and the staff is very nice. The food comes out very quick which is nice too. A good place to go for a quick bite when we go to Armistice brewery since it's across the street. Nachos were a bit disappointing but the burrito was solid. read more

3.5 stars rounding up to 4. We picked up the regular Quesadilla, the Filete De Pescado Ranchero (Fish with red sauce), Sopes - Al Pastor, and the Chicken enchiladas plate with The red sauce option. I was a little surprised that they don't provide any complimentary chips and salsa. No big deal but I got so used to having those included. There were more than enough food anyway, and I really enjoyed my fish dinner. It was a battered fried tilapia filet which went really well with the rancheros sauce. The Mexican rice really went well with the sauce too while I thought the refried beans don't really go well with fish, but that's a personal preference. However, the same refried beans went really well with the side of flour tortillas, and those tortillas were really good! I suspect it's an inhouse made tortilla. Either that or it's sourced from a kitchen that specialised in tortilla. It was none of that store-bought tortilla one usually sees in taco trucks, and even many a sit-down restaurant. The quesadilla picked up the same pace what with those delicious flour tortillas. It was nicely seared and gooey with a tad hint of crispy spots here and there. The enchiladas were pretty good too. The red sauce had hints of tapatio sauce (or its equivalent) and I thought it was rather tasty with the beans and rice. I was told the sopes were good but nothing to write home about, nor complain against. All in all, the food was standard fare and didn't stand out from any other Mexican restaurants; it's convenient for pick and delivery so I would go back to try more from their menu. read more

We came here after the brewery across the street recommended coming for food. We ordered the steak ranchero and the shrimp tacos. The steak was tough, tasteless, overcooked and no less than 5 pieces were gristly and borderline inedible. I haven't had bad quality meat like this in months. Otherwise the plate was fine and even delicious but the meat killed any enjoyment of the meal. one star. The tacos were 'okay' at best and not deserving of the price. the service was friendly and welcoming! When the owner/manager asked how things were, I was honest and told him what I thought of the carne. He didn't say anything and simply rang up the total on the register. Overall we were expecting more given the high ratings on yelp as well as the price relative to the food we received. I get the feeling that if you know what to order, the food here is delicious and deserving of the reputation and we got unlucky with our selections. That said we probably won't be back. read more

This place became our favorite food spot as well as Mexican food spot in the Marina area after our first visit here a few months ago. Definitely, their salsa (they serve chips complimentary) was the BEST one around! Don't forget to ask for their (deadly) spiciest salsa if you like HEAT! It's slightly burnt orange color and creamy, reminded me of the famous "orange sauce" at certain famous Mexican joints in the south bay, but with more heat! Their quessabirria was so so so good and loaded! Lots of meat! Their fish tacos are one of the best I've had on this side of the bay! The fish fillets are fried, just FYI! Their price point is LOW for the area! (The Marina is the pricier neighborhood) and service is always friendly! Even my toddler remembers them (and their cute children who sometimes help out :)). Most of the food is pretty good. My favorite so far has been the quesabirrias and sides. My boyfriend devoured his wet burrito. I've come back again and had a California burrito, wasn't the best. The ingredients were evenly distributed and instead of fried you got potato chunks. I'd stick with the tacos and sides here. Also the complimentary chips and salsa they give you when you sit down are awesome. Always ask for more salsa. While this is obviously family run, service leaves a lot to be desired. It'll take quite a while for anyone to serve you. And waiting for the check does get awkward. I'd just order takeout next time for a better experience. Fun looking decor and lots of space, but it's usually pretty empty here. The only wait to expect is the service. read more

Got the Super Nachos Fries, imagine nachos but with french fries instead of tortilla chips. The Super Nacho Fries has Cheese Sauce, Beans, Sour Cream, Guacamole, Pico Gallo, Jalapenos, Fries, and Choice of meat. I was SUPER curious what kind of cheese the "Cheese Sauce" would be, but it was literally nacho cheese you would expect on nachos haha. I ordered on GrubHub and they did not have an option for the meat, so I had to look up what meats were available and added it to the comments... I went with the Al Pastor meat which was a great choice. I picked up to-go, but the interior seemed very nice compared to many other Mexican Eateries. The super nacho fries were mediocre at best, it was great to try but I would not get it again for the price. There was a good portion of meat for 2, but the fries could have been crispier and there was nothing special about the toppings or the super nacho fries. They did not provide any hot sauce so I asked for some and he gave me 1 small container. I asked for another and he gave me another small container of hot sauce. 2 containers seemed perfect for the super nacho fries. read more

I happened to be in the neighborhood, and my child was not able to get his quizzinos sandwich. He was hungry, so we ended up at La Lupita. We ordered the vegetarian burrito, which tasted rather delicious! I was pleasantly surprised. The Horchata on the other hand tasted very much water down, so disappointed in that. My coworkers and I decided to stop by here during our lunch break. I wanted some tacos and decided to order the carnitas tacos on soft taco shell with everything on it. My coworker ordered huevos rancheros.... Sad to say but neither one of us liked the food here. The carnitas did not have the authentic taste like the ones that I have tried at other restaurants. Hmmm, not sure if this is an isolated case, but I was not satisfied with the two super burritos I ordered earlier this week due to everything being too soft, LOL ... let me clarify. EVERYTHING about my burrito seemed abnormally soft, as if everything was mixed in a blender and made deliberately for someone who had dental pain. Like there was no texture to the meat because it was so soft (not in a good tender-falling-off-the-bone-type-of-way). You couldn't see nor taste the different meat fibers? I'm not sure if this is La Lupita's specific style when it comes to their food, but I've just never experienced ALL ingredients in a burrito being soft. From the guacamole, tortilla, and even beans, literally EVERYTHING felt like mush and I could just swallow it without chewing. I felt like I was eating a burrito made for a baby or something LOL. I don't mean this to sound mean because the flavors were at least good (spicy al pastor !!), but it was just .... strange? I don't mind giving La Lupita another go since the location is super convenient and I want to support local restaurants, but the fact that BOTH super burritos I got were extremely soft in a bad way got me confused. Nest in Richmond, this little spot offers a touch of home when I'm away from San Jose. Since This review is done during Covid, my review will be based upon safety and flavor. During my visit the complete staff wore mask and provided disinfectant at the entry. This spot offers both Breakfast, lunch and dinner, with an emphasis on shrimp, fish, and beef. We have lived in the area for a little over 3 years. The place is tucked away in a part of the Marina Bay that is nicely clean and away from the hussle and brussel of lots of traffic and noise. Quiet eatery with a great selection of items on their menu. They also have daily specials. During this time of covid-19 it's tough to find a place that you can rely on for service,prices and lots of protection which they have followed all the guidelines for you to be safe. BEST BIRRIA SPOT IN RICHMOND !! I love this place so much!! the staff is super friendly, wait times are very short, prices are insanely low, the ambiance is lovely and of course, the food is OUTSTANDING! I recommend this place highly to any and all Richmond residents and visitors, but if you're not in the area it's totally worth the drive. It's also public transit friendly- the 74 bus stops right near this place, you could take the 74 directly here from Richmond Bart station. Stopped here on a long trip home from Mill Valley to Santa Clara to charge our Tesla, and wandered in to grab food to go for my 5-year-old and myself. They were just about to close, but so generous in their service. We ordered a breakfast burrito with sausage; my son wasn't much for the potatoes in it or red peppers, but I'm a fan of veggies. Came out extra hot wrapped in tin foil that kept it warm all the way until we got home. Their service was unmatchable- while we waited for our food, there were two other small girls that sat with us at the bar, I think maybe the owner's girls. One of them was eating a mango, and the owner asked us if we wanted one. She gave us this beautiful and sweet yellow mango on a plate and I cut it open for my son; we both devoured it! Afterwards, the older girl sweetly approached my boy and offered a gel dessert, and he gladly took it. Even though they were closing, we did not feel rushed and they were so welcoming. They are also next to a Quizno's, Starbucks, and Mountain Mike's Pizza, but I would much rather give my money and support to a small business- especially when they treated us so well. Food is cheap, it was a good deal. The whole fish came with rice, beans, and salad for $16. Buuuttt it had absolutely no seasoning :( I literally had to add seasoning when I got home lol. Even more egregious is that they charged me $3.50 for a coke that I spilled partly because they never gave me a lid or straw with my to go order then charged me another $3.50 for a refill regardless of whether the soda came from bottle or fountain. I explained my sensitivity to too much spicy the lady told no worries I will hold back the hot just add a little, I have been living here for 6 yrs it the first restaurant I had served me freshly made hot out of the frier nacho chips IT WAS INCREDIBLE I CALLED MY HUBBY TO TELL HIM!!! I could not believe I ate two bowls and did I tell you they came with a salsa that was too hot for words however the staff lady made me a fresh mild one just for me because I am too special Lol!!! Oh wait did I tell you that those freshly homemade chips and salsa were FREE!!!! Yes honey FREEEEEE!!!!!! The food was Authentic to the Mexican Culture and everything was freshly made and flavorful!!!! This place won me over so much that I came back with 18 of my staff and co-workers and celebrated my birthday!!!!
