Well, now you can! The idea is a cocktail bar. Pretty simple, right? And that's just it, that's all it is. No tricks, no whistles, no $16 cocktails with some weird Japanese spirit that you don't know anything about. You want a good cocktail by seasoned bartenders, well, then there ya go. Oh, and they dress them up! Umbrellas! Fun straws! Even little plastic pterodactyls. Yeah, I don't know what it means either, but it's fun and much better than staying at home watching America's Funniest Home Videos and eating your sad pasta. It's a very intimate space, enough for about 20 people. The idea is reminiscent of a tiki lounge; macramé adorns the walls, the daiquiris are served in big parrot-styled cups, there's a sound system playing club music. There's even a porch overlooking The Big Nine District and the MLK Mural. Bring your best friends, or that girl you've dropped the ball on asking out for the past two weeks -- she'll be impressed.

Despite clearly being short staffed and having a busy night - we were greeted almost immediately and encouraged to help ourselves to a seat. We sat at a table away from the bar (only one available) and a server came by to take our drink order. Before he could return, another employee - who was running food to another table - immediately came over to us after to see if we wanted to order food (which we did!). She took our order, then the drinks arrived and before we knew it the food was out and was incredible! The menu is quite limited - and even more so when you one of you doesn't eat meat - and yet we were able to make a meal out of 2 caesar salads, the hummus plate and the deviled eggs. And don't even get me started on the cocktails! We started with a Manhattan and an Espresso Martini that were perfectly crafted. We walked in the bar area at H2O lounge. We ordered a round of drinks, no problem. The drinks were good, if not a little pricey. We went for another round and the guy behind the bar said, "Bar's closed". We ordered from a girl that was real nice earlier. We were like huh? He said we close at 11. Again, wha??? Ok, so you guys don't do last call? He was obviously ready to go home and not eager to answer questions. He wore a scowl on his face. Not sure what his problem was, but he missed out on a great tip. The girl came back and said she'd do a last call for us. We ordered, even at the protest of the guy bartender, and she served our last drinks. We tipped her, closed the tab down and left. A hotel bar should be open later than 11 pm on a Saturday night. Rediculous. I liked the girl bartender, but I've been to bars that are actually glad to make tips. I mean, they realize that's their bread and butter. I won't choose to go back.

After walking through gravel and returning, we entered, paid, once I sat down, the security came to mention that my other friend needed to return her handbag. The signage should be clear for ALL patrons and not discretion. The dimensions of the purse did not equate to large or big. I looked across the room and saw a purse (same size) sitting on a counter that someone else had. I was baffled that security saw us, allowed us to enter and pay. The communication with the owner was poor. No eye contact and seem as if he did not want to be bothered and sadly we were told he wasn't there. Tip: Provide clear communication to ALL staff and on signage to clearly specify the dimensions of handbags that are not permitted and be sure that your staff is informed, instead of picking who you want to select, because there's difference in a large tote, small handbag, clutch or wristlet.
