I went to watch the Super Bowl with a friend in town. I had heard about this spot but hadn't been. We were able to sit anywhere as there were not tons of people yet (yet being the key). The server was nice and helpful with menu discussions. I didn't get much for myself. My friend got the seafood boil and loved it. I got sides: hush puppies and fries. I thought the fries would have seasoning or something on them but they were plain fries so was a little disappointed It did get really busy while there. Food -- The food was pretty dang good! The chicken wings as an appetizer were good. The wings were smallish but hot, and the sauce was tasty. I had the 1/2 pound headless shrimp boil with medium spice for my entree. I gotta tell ya, it was DELICIOUS! The steam and the seasoning made an awesome sauce! I wish I had ordered the entire pound. The only knock is I'm not a fan of peel-and-eat, but it did not deter me. The potatoes an' corn were a nice compliment to the shrimp. Food = A Ambiance -- This place felt more like a nightclub (rap/R&B background music) )than a restaurant. It did have a big bar. The lighting could have been better and made it too dark with all the dark accents. As you walk in, you see fiber optic lighting in the foyer.LOL!!! Things have definitely improved here again, at least for me, it was my go to place for seafood, traveling close to a hour 1 way every weekend or two, their sauce is the absolute best I have had, the company started growing in Chattanooga and added 3 different types of restaurant under the Volcano Crab umbrella name, the mgr went to each to get them up and running, and unfortunately, whoever that was left running the original restaurant & bar, took it in a direction I didn't care too much for (me personally) Music that was WAY too loud, couldn't even talk to someone across the table with you, service slowed down, but I think that was because when the live DJ started, it became packed, bar area was cranking, which I'm sure is good for the business, but, unfortunately when the bar is 7-8 feet away from tables and booths where people are eating, it didn't mix well, for me. and apparently others too, I stopped back in couple weeks ago, hours have changed back, original mgr was back, service has improved, you could talk without screaming, life is wonderful again !! If you start craving some of the absolute BEST seafood pots, give Volcano a try, when you grab that crab leg, think of Randy Savage and Snap into it !! read more

I came here with my girlfriend late Saturday night. The oysters were large and fresh. The upside down martini tasted just like its name. If that's what you like I'd recommend it. There was plenty of parking and well lit. The extra star I have given was due to the night managers handling of a patron demanding payments of her tab be made in silver or gold! Well after only one visit on a sleepy Monday night I'm not sure how fair my review would be. But , my wife and I got there about 6 pm this Monday. Only 4 other diners there which caused us to be concerned but we decided to stay and order something simple to be on the safe side. Our waitress came over, gave us menus, and asked if we would like something to drink. I usually will have a Chardonnay with seafood so i asked if she had a wine list. She said no but we do have Bearfoot Riesling , Pinot Noir, and Merlot!!! Wow, box wine from Bota Box might be better wine. Anyway we ordered a dozen raw oysters to share , my wife ordered a salad, and I ordered the hush puppies. But alas. no salad was available. Waitress said the lettuce was all wilted. So my wife ordered steamed asparagus which was very good. Came with a plastic fork. Hush puppy's came out at same time but apparently you get no fork with the puppies. Must be considered finger food. Then about ten minutes later the raw oysters came out with a little cup of hot sauce and some crackers. I asked if we could have horse radish and was told they were out. So we asked if we could have another fork since we only had one that came with my wife's asparagus. Also had to ask if we could have cocktail sauce for the oysters. No problem i will say the server was very nice and tended to our "petty" request for utensils and condiments!! Atmosphere was nice. Puppies were delicious. Oysters would have been better if we didn't have to try to cut them out of the shell with a plastic fork. I'll give them a 3 due to the nice server. Otherwise a 2 would be gracious. This was across the street from the hotel I was staying. Went for a drink after dinner and ended up having the scallops in spicy garlic sauce and tried the ice cream because it was a Yelp offer! Surprise there. The scallops were actually pretty good, very spicy, it came with a potato and corn on the Cobb. The oysters were pretty large. The atmosphere is a bit sketchy, very dark inside with minimal lighting but not in a romantic type of way. There appeared to be patrons that were regulars there. We sat at the bar, the drinks were good. I had the pineapple upside down martini and it definitely tasted like cake! The mule was kinda sweet not that great. First time here and was pleasantly surprised. My Son in Law wanted to go to Pier 88 for his birthday. I had been there before and it was OK. Food was good but atmosphere was not so hot. Crowded seating and just did not like it so I suggested we to try this place. It was a wise decision. It has a similar menu to Pier 88 (maybe same owners I don't know) but quality of establishment is much better. I called for reservations and they were glad to accommodate us. The restaurant is a good size and has a large u shaped bar (full service) and lots of seating both booths and tables. They had a Christmas Santa in the entrance with hanging decoration lighting. In the restaurant, you can walk down either side and it has a projection of ocean waves washing up on shore which was a cute addition. Overall, the atmosphere was festive and pleasant. Our waitress, Ingrid was such a joy. She was busier than a one armed paper hanger but she really worked for us. We started out with hush puppies (which were light and very good) and Calamari (it was OK but I nothing special and I have had better and would not get it again). We ordered the combo meals which can easily feed two people and still leave full. We had the blue crab meal which was very good but unless you know how to peel the small blue crab, I would not get that one but there are lots of other combos to choose from. The combo comes in huge plastic bag fully cooked and loaded with juices and food from sausages, potatoes, 2 blue crabs, corn on the cob and shrimp. You open the bag (very hot) and dump it on a large platter and then dig in. We had the mild seasoning and it was awesome. Oh yea, they have draught beer (+1) and while they had domestic beer, they did not really have a selection of craft such as coffee stout or IPAs. But I made it work for me. Bottom line, I am going back for the quality of food, Fair prices, atmosphere, and service (also they have a great selection of non-fried seafood). read more

Visited the restaurant for the first time this week. Very comfortable, clean and friendly wait staff. The music is LOUD AND HORRIBLE. Mega bass feels like pulling up to a red light next to a car trying to start the armageddon earthquake on the New Madrid Fault Line. Rap music with profanity. (Leave the kids at home) If they would change to a softer, tolerable, instrumental music it would class the place up. We had to move to an area as far away from the speakers and ask twice for them to please turn the music down so we could hear our conversation. We were not expecting disco dining. I left my dance shoes at home and there is not a dance floor. We visited for the food. We have music in the car and at the house. The food was good. Scallops cooked to perfection, the rice was a great addition as a side for $3.50. It mixes well with the sauces. The cole slaw was $3.00 for less than half a cup ??? Of cabbage. We had to order two orders of slaw to get enough to enjoy the meal with. The steamer pot was great with shrimp, crab legs and corn, easily customizable. The waitress was very attentive and friendly.. but we had to ask for plates?!? I would eat there again as long as i have some earplugs or they change their party club music to something that provides an atmosphere where one can enjoy dinner conversation rather than really bad, loud music. read more

I really don't like leaving bad reviews but we gave Volcano a lot of leeway throughout the night and it just kept disappointing. I've been to Pier 88 before and loved it there but decided to try out Volcano instead this time. On a Monday night, the parking lot was pretty empty and only 2 other tables were seated inside when we arrived so it was to our surprise that it took 5-10 minutes for a server to acknowledge us and take our drink orders after getting seated. We hoped that would be the end of our problems for the night. We were wrong. We ordered 1.5 lbs of seafood for the group, a chicken tender basket, and a side of coleslaw. The seafood boil was hot and flavorful and we didn't hear any complaints on the tenders, but I can't overlook getting ripped off on coleslaw. A side of coleslaw was $3 and we got barely a 1/4 cup container of it. That's 4 tablespoons of food. That really left a bad taste in my mouth, both literally and figuratively. After dropping off our food, our server disappeared, so we got no additional drink refills throughout our meal (minus the one refill we got when our food was dropped off). We spent a good 10-20 minutes after we finished eating attempting to wave down our server for the check but he was nowhere to be seen. Eventually, we got the attention of another employee who went to go find him. Apparently, he had been pulled to do something else. I really don't fault our server for getting pulled into doing something else and he was very helpful when he was there. But even if things weren't his fault, and especially since we were 1 of 3 tables in an empty restaurant, it created a very poor dining experience for everyone present. Keep in mind we drive and hour and twenty minutes away and just to come find out they are 25 and up... they didn't even let us order any food wish was so messed. We are of Hispanic descent and management was very racist to say quote@ Yawll can go to cabanas" whom are notorious for having a large Hispanic community. My husband and I both had the 1lb of crab legs, mine with all of the sauces (Cajun and garlic butter, plus one more) and then my husband had the garlic butter with no spice. The crab was nice and fresh and very sweet. We were pleasantly surprised. It came in a bag with one ear of corn, and some potatoes. I believe the price was $26 per lb. we also had an order of the hush puppies that came sweeten with corn. The food was great. What was misleading. Is they advertised a special in the local Money Talks magazine, we came in for that exact dish. We even brought the magazine in and pointed at the photo of the dish we wanted. The waitress said the photo was just advertisement, it's not what they had. I will start by saying by saying the decor is nice and Abby our waitresses was fantastic. We decided to go here after a long day of driving because the restaurant had a 4.0 rating. We decided to get some drinks and appetizers and see if we wanted to get more food after. We picked the calamari, chicken wings and Cajun fries. The drinks were great. The Calamari looked like it came out of a bag and tasted like it too. The Calamari was some of the toughest chewiest Calamari I have ever eaten. I tried one and my husband ate two and we just put them in the trash bucket. The wings were huge, well cooked and well sauced but really lacked flavor. Out of the 12 wings both ate 4 and threw the rest away. The Cajun fries were very good. I assume this place gets its 4.0 rating from the seafood boils and not their appetizers. If you go enjoy the great staff, nautical themed atmosphere, good drinks but just skip the appetizers and go right to the boils. read more
