It's normally a day trip during the spring or summer where we just walk around downtown, sit by the water, and enjoy the outdoors. There's always so much to see. Sometimes, you can even catch a vendor event where folks are selling different items all along downtown. There are always people around--whether it's at the aquarium, on the sand, or just walking around. It's such a lively place. Aside from the activities, there are some great places to eat. My sister and brother-in-law recommended that we try Taco 423. After about 2.5 hours of walking, we had definitely worked up an appetite, and I was in the mood for tacos. The place was a bit of a walk from where we were, but I needed the exercise. The inside was cool, kind of dimly lit, and they had TVs and a bar if that's your thing. The service was really nice and attentive. Even though it wasn't my sister and brother-in-law's first time there, the staff made a point to welcome me and share some recommendations from the menu. Now, let's get to the food. My sister and brother-in-law opted for the tacos with beans and rice, and of course, what Mexican feast is complete without queso? I, on the other hand, went for the chicken enchiladas with refried beans and rice! I order this dish whenever I go because it's always so good! I even got an extra side of queso because I knew one wouldn't be enough. The food was filling--so much so that we didn't need to take anything to go. That walk back to the car came in handy because we were stuffed! Usually, I need a to-go box, but not this time! I would definitely recommend trying this place out. This food was not good. Not at all, especially for the price. We were finishing our day at a conference and walked down from the Westin and got food to go. I got a chicken enchilada dish and was charged two extra dollars for sour cream. We didn't wait long and the bartender was nice enough. But getting to our room and trying our food was so disappointing. The chicken was rubbery and cheap, the refied beans tasted off. It's an easy thing to cook but even the rice was cold and tasteless . The service and ambience were good. The skirt steak was not seasoned and it was overcooked to the point of not being edible. It was very bland and is not seared at all. The fish and shrimp tacos were good. However the steak taco was very salty. They give you a lot of steak but the amount of salt is off putting. I was not a big fan of the house margaritas. read more

The steak and the chicken tasted identical and each one left a big wad of hard grisly meat in your mouth that was impossible to chew and swallow. This was an absolutely horrendous dining experience. I'm unsure of the parking situation as my family and I walked to this restaurant from our nearby hotel. We arrived on a Saturday evening around 8:30p (family of 4). It wasn't too busy but the bar space was busy due to college sports. We were greeted as soon as we entered and we were seated right away. We were provided chips and salsa, menus and silver ware as we seated. Our server was so sweet! I didn't catch her name but she was very attentive and helpful. Three different proteins, chorizo spicy and flavorful, chicken white meat grilled and super tender steak. Each taco topped with onion and cilantro. $16.99 plenty for two! While our order was prepared a basket of chips and salsa was served. Salsa so delicious I wish they would bottle it and sell it. Chips are crispy and have a good bite. We asked for a drink menu and when the waiter came back he asked what kind of margaritas would you like. I said I'm sorry I was hoping for wine. Even though there was well over an hour left before closing time, workers would rather clean than to take my order (Which is confusing because they sat me at a dirty table). I realized my friend & I were the only Black people in there & being less catered to. The other tables were of Hispanic descent or white & were getting waaaay better service. 423 Tacos had the BEST Birria Tacos I've ever had! The meat is flavorful and tender. Their tortillas were the perfect balance of soft and crunchy. The pork belly tacos were good but we suggest getting a more flavorful side with it. The sides were really good, we got pico salad, charro beans, and mexican corn. Their homemade salsa is good too but it lacks the cilantro flavor if that is what you are interested in. The servers are very accommodating, one of them chatted and talked to us about the city. They are very easy to talk to and they make sure that you have a great time! The customized wall art is good for the general ambiance that they were going for.
