The Only Review You Need To Read We decided to check out this restaurant, as my funny little honey is actually from Colima, Mexico and if anybody knows Mexican food, it would be her. Also my Aunt Johnnie (RIP) who relocated from El Paso, TX to Ellicott City years ago, this was her favorite restaurant. First off, I'd like to say that the word "authentic" is thrown around a bit too liberally when it comes to Mexican restaurants around here. The Hispanic population here in Maryland is dominated with people from Central America, of which Mexico is not. The restaurant itself is rather quaint, with plenty of room for either couples or a large party. The staff were very friendly and attentive; definitely seems like a family-owned business. Now, let's talk about the food. In a nutshell, we were not particularly impressed. The chicken tortilla soup was basically a watery bean soup with little flavor and two large tortilla chips placed in it (no tortilla strips?). I ordered my "go to" dish which is chicken enchiladas. Meh; the enchiladas were just fine, the rice was brownish in color (we're used to orange Spanish rice), the black beans didn't have a lot of flavor and refried beans are refried beans - hard to mess that up. My girlfriend got chile relleno and she was taken aback a bit that it had shredded chicken and onion in it (usually it just has cheese). She also pointed out that this was a Mexican restaurant, but there were no albondigas, no molè, no sopes, no guacamole nor sour cream anywhere in sight. And I pointed out no pictures of Vicente Fernández on the walls either. But what was good were the chips and salsa we had to munch on while waiting for our entrees - that I can recommend; good salsa. Three stars is the best I can do. Personally, we tried it, and we didn't find the experience that great where we need to go back again. And I don't want to give the impression that I'm trashing the place - it's a nice sit-down restaurant and if you're looking for some South Of The Border fare, then it's fine. Bland Mexican food. We visited Mi Casa Mexican Restaurant on a Monday night, and it was about a quarter full. When you enter the restaurant, you immediately see the bar with a television behind that played a movie during our visit. The chairs and tables are cheap and the walls are painted with hues of orange and purple. I tried the vegetable enchiladas. Before the entree arrived, we were given chips and salsa. Both were standard, but the salsa was served in a fun bowl-shaped tortilla chip. The enchiladas were okay, the black beans and refried beans were pretty bland, and the rice was blander still. Overall, I was not impressed with Mi Casa Mexican Restaurant and think there are better options in the area. read more

Omg! Wow! My brother brought me out here for a Sunday funday experience as he has eaten here before. I was blown away by the customer service and attentiveness when we arrived. Our margaritas were made to perfection. The service the service the service!! It should be commended because they were on point with it all. My margarita was a bit too sweet but it was nothing ice couldn't fix! We had the Jack honey fajitas per recommendation and my goodness was it a good one. We cleaned our plates! Next time I need to save room for dessert, As there were many options that looked delicious. The reservation for our party of 9 went well, with the table set up when we arrived. Disappointed that for this large group they only brought one basket of chips with salsa. Service otherwise was very good. I liked the chunky guacamole. We also had a quesadilla as an appetizer which was accompanied by small scoops of guacamole and sour cream. A couple of us shared a tamale. Growing up in San Antonio, I strongly prefer smaller tamales, but this was the best large one I ever had. Cheese enchiladas were very good, and I liked that the beans on the platter had refried and black beans. Didn't like that they would only split the bill in half. The decorations definitely reminded me of Mexico. I would eat here again when back in the area, but preferably with a smaller group. read more

Placed an online order. Arrived 30 minutes later to pick it up and they cannot find the order. I was told to phone in orders in the future rather than place them online. Why bother having an online order system if it doesn't work. It was another 35 min wait to get my food. Food was good but the wait time was unacceptable. read more

I went here for dinner while visiting friends in EC and had a great time. My friends are locals and knew the owner very well who asked about how their family is doing and made sure we were all well taken care of For the food: the Jack Daniel's fajitas are sooooo good. I've been thinking about them ever since. We also got some enchiladas to share that came with one of each filling and those were great too. Let me start by saying the engagement and personality of the management at Mi Casa is worth at least a star on any rating. You walk in and you are immediately welcomed. "Is this your first time here?" If it is you will get the history of this family owned local establishment, how it's been here for 25 years. If you are fortunate and he's working Rocky will bend your ear for the entire time you're there. He'll ask where your from, talk to you about how the restraint is about being a good family place, not just a good Mexican restaurant. Rocky is just a good human that has spent I'd life on the local area. Now let's talk about the food. Everything comes out of the kitchen piping hot and fresh. On this visit I wasn't particularly hungry so I just went for a tortilla soup. It's one of the best you will have, full of flavor, just delicious. Pair it with a house Margarita and you are in heaven. And if you are into spice the chips and salsa will come with a little orange container of house made habanero salsa. It's supper Spivey and. Very very flavorful. This is a simple family Mexican place. You're not going to get fancy decor, candle light, or anything like that. You are going to get an honest, hard working, family restaurant with really solid food. And maybe a great conversation along with your meal. read more

The decor is nice and waitress was fine. But she only had 2 other customers. My friend and I were looking forward to our lunch. She had been there in the past and enjoyed it... it was my 1st visit. The food was very disappointing. Her beef was rubbery and the beans looked and tasted like they were in paste. My taco salad (hard to go wrong...right?!) was pretty small for a $14 entree. The chicken was pulled not grilled, cold and had an odd flavor. I couldn'eat it. I was craving guacamole and had actually pulled into the Chipotle parking lot when I spied this restaurant across the street and thought: why not? I was seated and brought the obligatory chips and salsa while I looked over the menu. The chips appeared to be homemade and possibly from stoneground corn which I really enjoyed. A nice change from the flat, tasteless chips at other restaurants. I ordered the chicken quesadillas and this is probably where I went wrong. These quesadillas are some sort of stewed chicken thing mixed with cheese? They are tasteless, sloppy and disappointing. An accurate description of this item would have caution me against ordering it. Prices were a bit high ($12.95) for the quesadillas. Service was ok but not enough for a return trip. read more

Was craving fajitas and enchiladas and came here. The place was buzzing with a large party taking up most the larger dining area. The bartender wasn't wearing a mask, although Howard county restaurants require restaurants workers to wear in masks while serving guests. (Governor's orders 20-04-15) Aside from the non social distancing practices observed at this restaurant, the customers that came in after us were seated directly behind us. The other customer was literally 2 feet away from the back of my wife's shoulder. Their orders were taken before us and served before us as well... all while I observed the bartender wiping his nose real quick... (poor kid) During the observations of their serving practices, I notice none of the workers wore hairnets. (Seeing kitchen staff pass back and forth through doors) All while the bartender did most of the waiting and order taking for us, he kept pacing back and forth the restaurant to look busy. Towards the end of our meal, the place had slowed down so the bartender who was pacing back and forth with his hand in his pockets, went outside for a bit then came back in. I then asked for a ginger ale, ring up the drink on the pos and observed him wiping his face then grabbing my cup full of ice. I immediately noticed and asked him for light ice and asked him to wash his hands, that I saw him touch his face. He then looked at me like "whattt...??" Like I saw exactly what you did buddy, stop lying to my face.... He then proceeded to moisten his hands and NOT FOLLOW PROPER HAND WASHING PROCEDURES FOR ANY FOOD ESTABLISHMENT... then served me my drink. I immediately gotten sickened and ask for checks and boxes. This is disgusting beyond all measures, god knows how many people have been served by this guy over the years. read more

We came here last weekend for lunch. We were promptly greeted by our Waitress, she did not give her name, but she was polite and attentive. The place was empty with only maybe 4 people seated.I think she was playing Hostess and Waitress. Being she was the only person on the floor waiting on tables. The food did take a while to come out. We got the Buffalo Wings for an Appetizer, they were just plain breaded Wings with Buffalo Sauce on the side, they were fried too hard we could finish them. I ordered the Jack Daniels Fajita Como which comes with Chicken,Steak and Shrimp, with side Rice and Beans. The Combo was flavorful, but a little over cooked and they only gave me four small Shrimps. For the cost at $22.99, I would expected more Shrimp. The rice was very dry. My Husband got the Chili Verde he said, it was just ok. I don't think I will be coming here anytime soon. read more

Do NOT use the online ordering. I did not receive confirmation from the ordering system, which also happened several months ago when I ordered online, so I did not worry. Upon arrival, the server looked puzzled when I told her I had an online order. The restaurant had not received my order, nor did they offer to take it right then. Rather, the two wait staff both chose to ignore me. 0ne told me she had called the online service, but they did not answer. So, they left me waiting, with no solution offered. My credit card has a pending charge, so I may have to take it up with the bank. The Mi Casa staff could have easily rectified the problem by taking my order and expediting it, but instead chose to try to ignore it. Update: one HOUR after I submitted my online order, I received confirmation, stating it would be ready in a further 30 minutes. Since I had already been charged and communication was clearly not the restaurant staff's strength, back I went. 20 minutes after the promised time, dinner was ready and delivered. I suspect they only made it when I showed up. The food was good. But no one apologized for the delay, no offer of a little freebie as customer accommodation. Trying La Palapa next time. This place is a bit hidden, but well worth finding. The food is delicious and the servers are very attentive. My favorite meal here are the fajitas. The steak and shrimp are especially good. The jalapeño poppers are another favorite. It's a great date night stop that isn't the norm and is close to The Pottery Stop which is where we went afterwards. read more

My husband and I have been back to Mi casa 2 week in a row and are still very pleased with the outstanding quality and service. I forgot this place was here for some reason. But now I can't forget! Stopped in for a birthday dinner and was greeted immediately. The server felt like a friend and chatted with us and discribed the menu well. I got the seafood enchiladas and they were really good! I exchanged the red sauce for the green. Had our first visit here on a Friday night and the place was packed. We waited about 10 minutes and had our table. The seating is on the smaller side, but obviously these people knew something that I was about to learn... the food here is great. Service is excellent and there was a person who checked on us to make sure the food was the way we liked it. I tried the combo plate and sadly there was no room for dessert. The longest standing and best Mexican restaurant in Ellicott City!! There are frequently coupons that come in the mailers as well. Vegetarian Mexican food sounds easy, yet many fail to do it well.
