I decided to visit Lime and Salt in Columbia one Sunday afternoon for a solo date. My waiter was very attentive and accommodating during my visit. I ordered one shrimp taco and nachos with guacamole as my meal. I mostly enjoyed the nachos between the two. DO NOT EAT HERE. My boyfriend and I came here for dinner and had one of the worst restaurant experiences ever. Our server ignored multiple allergy and food modification requests, even after I clearly explained that I am ALLERGIC to jalapeños and specifically asked for no jalapeños, no pico de gallo, and no onions on my food. Our order still came out wrong with jalapeños, onions mixed into the meat, and other unwanted toppings. Since I'm pregnant, this could've seriously put me and my baby at risk. The food itself was disappointing, incomplete from what the menu described, and honestly not worth the $80+ we spent. The service was even worse. Our server barely checked on us, never offered takeout bags, and when we chose not to leave a tip because of the poor experience, another employee confronted us about it. She then offered to refund the meal because of how bad everything was. Days later, we realized we were still fully charged. After weeks of calling, getting ignored, being told the manager was unavailable or on vacation, and even being cursed at over the phone, nothing has been resolved. What a delight to find a friendly and welcoming place near by. The layout is narrow but the seating is well arranged so you did feel cramped. Loved the beautiful furnishings and colorful decor. The food was delicious. We were there on a Tuesday so they had a discount on their tacos. Usually $5/each but today's they were offered at a dollar off. You can tell when ingredients are fresh, portions were good, sauces complimented the individual dishes with wonderful flavors of well blended spices that you can have mild to spicy. One thing to note is that the kitchen ventilation could/should be better. If you're sitting in one of the first few booths, you will notice some intense cooking smells, which will linger on your clothes. I got an Al pastor taco which weirdly had no flavor at all-the flour tortillas are fresh made in house but were either undercooked or not seasoned as I felt I was just biting flour mash. I also ordered a fish taco which started off strong-was crispy at first but the plain tortilla taste could not quite be saved-also I would have like perhaps some cabbage or something in the taco! I ended up getting 3 tacos for $17. I for the back salmon taco (my favorite), the shrimp and chorizo taco (2nd favorite) & the barbacoa de borrego taco. Had a slow start in which we waited for an excessive amount of time for a table because the host forgot about us but once we got a table and our fabulous server, Angie, things started looking up. We were told about a 20 minute wait and since this location is a bit cozy in size we waited outside for a bit. After our wait we entered the restaurant and waiting another 25 minutes to be acknowledged. I watched bartenders look at us directly and not reassure us of our wait time , that someone would be with us soon, or apologize for having kept us waiting. Maybe we should've left, but we stayed and eventually were seated. After being seated I definitely felt rushed to order our drinks. The tone, the body language of the bartender/server was definitely not giving good customer service or even friendly vibes. The drinks were fine, the food was good. Our first time at Lime and Salt and were pleasantly surprised at how good the food was at Lime and Salt. We ordered the traditional margaritas, tamales, spicy tuna tacos, chicharron, and carne asada tacos. The margarita was the best that I have had in the area. All of the tacos were fresh, authentic, and delicious. My favorite was the chicharron. I haven't had a good chicharron in Maryland ever! The tamale was a good as I had in New York City! I honestly don't know how anyone can say bad things about this place. My wife and I have been coming here for years and have always have had great service from the staff, the food is above and beyond any other sit down Mexican restaurant in the area (no offense to the others), and it's never overly packed so it doesn't feel crowded. We stopped by for an early afternoon weekday lunch. Parking in the large shared lot was plentiful. The staff welcomed us cheerfully to a soundtrack of lively modern Mexican music. The restaurant is bright and new with pretty, traditional decor, with about five 4-person booths, about three for 2-people, one table for as many as eight, and one that could seat 16, or could be four 4's. That's from memory, so it's probably not exact. There's also counter and bar back-less seating for 8 on one side and 8 on the other. With all those seats, it still doesnt feel crowded. The menu offers a wide selection of traditional dishes prepared with modern flair. We started with their fresh house-made salsa-tatemada with fried-corn totopos chips, and it was thick and full of the rich flavors of roasted tomatoes, poblano-peppers, and onions. The totopos were like half-tortillas, large and fun to crunch and break to bite-size. Then we had $5 and $6 street tacos and seafood tacos: the chicharron taco had a huge whole piece of seared pork-belly, the rockfish was breaded and perfectly tender, the sliced portobello mushrooms were rich and juicy, and the camarones a la diabla shrimp were juicy and brightly flavored. All had an assortment of freshly made toppings like jicama slaw or lightly-pickled cabbage and avocado-cilantro crema or chipotle aioli. The flavors were out-of-this-world, authentic tasting and obviously made with fresh ingredients and creative recipes. For this lunch we didnt sample from the full bar, but the tequila, mezcal, and creative cocktail lists will bring us back one of these evenings. They offer a lot of Happy Hour specials (HAPPY HOUR MONDAY - FRIDAY, 11 AM TO 6PM! $1 OFF TACOS DE LA CALLE, $2 OFF OUR TRADITIONAL MARGARITA) and do a specific one for Taco Tuesdays that I would recommend checking out. Their menu features a selection of more traditional Mexican tacos, but also offers some more modern takes. Their menu also extends to other dishes like ceviche, Guadalajara classics, and sopes. My (entitled) opinion is that I would love to get complimentary chips/salsa, but you have to order the appetizer in order to get them (not a dealbreaker). Food - I usually order the tacos and have never been disappointed. You can order a la carte without having to worry about getting 2-3 of the same tacos like other taco joints. Heads up - this is one of those spots when they say spicy, there's actually a kick to it, so a fair warning for those who want to avoid heat. Everything is always cooked very well with no shortage of toppings - albeit it might be considered sacrilege for the taco purists who only like onions/cilantro, but for me it's great. I ordered 4 tacos but that was way too much, ended up taking one home. Overall they were ok with some meats a bit dry and generally a similar taste no matter the meat. One could totally have this as their meal and get full off of it. * Cochinita Pibil Tacos * This taco was full of braised pork and pickled red onion. * Pastor Tacos * This taco had pork, dressed with pineapple, onion, and cilantro. ** The tacos were delicious. The meats were tender, juicy and full of flavor. The grilled pineapple, onions and cilantro accompanied the tacos nicely. If I could add one thing; it would be lime. We live drizzling lime on our tacos and these tacos didn't come with them. We didn't ask so we're unsure if they offer it. Be sure to check if you're like us and like lime with your tacos. * Sopes Bistec * This sopes was good and would have been even better if it came with a bigger tortilla. The tortilla at the bottom was almost not noticeable. The steak. onion, cilantro, sour cream and lettuce drowned the tortilla out; it felt as if I was eating a mini salad. Nonetheless, it was good and the steak was tender and flavorful. Overall, I enjoyed everything I had. I was surprised they didn't offer complimentary chips and salsa and limes didn't come with the tacos. I suppose I'm used to that with other places I've been to. I'll definitely be back, though to try the chips and salsa. I'll just be sure to ask if they have lime. read more
