This was an overall disappointment. I love Mexican food but this place has to be the worst Mexican food I've ever had. I got fish tacos and the fish was burnt quarter thin piece of fish with lettuce, no sauce or moisture to be found at all. I got a margarita which tasted horrible so I wasted 8 dollars for one sip. The waiter was inattentive and didn't offer to take it off the bill at all and scoffed when I asked for water. We were in a road trip so I saved the extra not knowing if we'd find another place when we needed to and ended up eating leftovers cold. This was better cold and a day old! read more

After visiting this Mexican restaurant out in Oilville a few times, there's no doubt it deserves 5 stars! Not only is the atmosphere colorful, cheerful and festive, but the food here is authentic and delicious! The lively Spanish music in the background adds to the ambiance! Lots of terra cotta, bright yellow decorations, piñatas, sombreros and other kitschy décor makes for a fun, pleasant experience! Talk about amazing food... the taco salad is fresh and delish, the taquitos are light and crispy filled with tender beef and juicy, lightly seasoned chicken with salad, sour cream, guac and Spanish rice on the side... perfect portions! My hubby got the fish tacos and he raves about them! And talk about fast service, Speedy Gonzalez would be proud! The prices are reasonable and the selection of beers are decent! Parking is a breeze and it's never overly crowded. They have a happy hour every day from 4:30-9:00, with different specials each night! They should call the "happy evenings " because every night is a party! We usually go in the mid afternoon when it s not too busy and we get in and out quickly! Our family had lunch at this restaurant. Chips, salsa and homemade ranch dressing were provided as an appetizer. We had a chicken salad, beef salad, taco & burrito with beans and rice, and a a meal with Popeye in the name (that included spinach). We were quite pleased with our meals. We just moved to the area and figured we try this place. First off, ranch dressing with sugar added for your chips is just weird. It didn't taste good either. We order the cheese dip which was watered down to no flavor. The guacamole tasted a bit funny. We ordered several entrees, the bean and rice were pretty good but found everything else to be very basic. I can see how this is good for some people but we like good authentic Mexican food with bold flavor. The environment is very loud, they crank the music up to the point where you can barely hear your group at the table. The price is cheap for what you get, I suppose you could say you get what you pay for. Service was good, they made sure we had our drinks refilled and checked on us several times. Service was fast as well. So that a win. read more

Let's just say that this place was a solid two stars the first few times we visited right after they opened, but this is my go-to restaurant now. The margaritas aren't really that good unless you spring a few more bucks and have a "fresh margarita" and that's pretty good. Decent prices for domestic beers during happy hour make this place the stop after work for sure. Whoever is cooking has stepped it up big-time since it opened. That said, I'd love to get some warm, crispy chips and cool salsa, but currently, it's the other way around. The chips are cold and almost stale-tasting, and the salsa comes out warm sometimes (that's just weird to me). Maybe that's how you southerners like it down here, but not me. Throw those chips on the deep fryer for about 15 seconds, and then salt them, and store the salsa in the walk-in for crying out loud! This is worth a stop if you want to jump off 64 for a half hour. You probably won't be disappointed (unless you like warm chips and cold salsa). read more

Where do I begin? You Virginians have no clue what good Mexican food tastes like. First the white sauce they serve with the chips is nothing more than ranch dressing with sugar. Gross! The salsa tastes like it is from a jar and is watered down. The taco salad has the cheapest ground beef you can imagine like you get from the clearance bin at Food Lion. The enchiladas have no flavor and are drowned in sauce that is watery as well and if that's not bad enough the refried beans are definitely out of a can. Outstanding! We finally tried this place after saying we were going to for awhile. Now I'm sorry we waited so long. Ordered to go and everything was correct as ordered. Beef enchiladas, cheese enchiladas, chicken chimichanga and rice. The beef was seasoned perfectly as was the chicken. Some of the best Spanish rice I've ever had. Aldo ordered cheese dip to go along with the chips, salsa and white dip. All were delicious and right amount of spice. We used to eat here weekly but not any more. In the last year the food and service have taken quite a downhill turn. They NEVER have enough wait staff, you wait and wait and wait. We go about once every couple of months now to "try again". The food is never hot and tastes bland. Again today, my quesadilla was barely warm. This has been my favorite Mexican restaurant in all the land for about a year! Love the chicken chipotle mango tacos and the margaritas are so yummy! I have noticed they do go through periods though where it seems the cook changes for a month or so and the food is different and the chips are stale. Currently that is what is happening so we go to another place until the good chef is back or whatever causes this is fixed. When they have it right though it's the best around! read more

This location ruins Mi Jalisco's great reputation. We've been MiJi customers since they opened in 2004. We will continue to be customers, but absolutely not at this location ever again. Oilville: It takes 10 minutes to be acknowledged, an additional 10 minutes for a cheese dip to get to the table (and at that point you'll be out of chips, which will take another 10 minutes to be refilled). After our food was served, no one checked on us and we had to literally flag down our waiter after (you guessed it!) another 10 minutes to have our order corrected (which took an additional 10 minutes). We've even had to refill our own waters in the bathroom before. This visit was our last try for this specific location. Oilville needs to save some money on their trendy decor and spend it on some HVAC repairs and some employee training. Skip this location and go to either the Atlee or the Ruther Glen location. read more

Full disclaimer.........I grew up in the Southwest and am a full blown Mexican food snob. This place completely surprised me. The food is solid and the price is great. It's only about 15 minutes West of Short Pump and WAY better than any Mexican food you will get on that area. I've been there 5 or 6 times now and it hasn't disappointed. I was skeptical since there's not been much business when I drive by but this place is BANGING! Ordered the lunch burrito Popeye and all the ingredients were so fresh, avocado was perfect, onions were just cut. It tasted amazing. Even the side salad lettuce was fresh and crisp. The wait staff was great, super friendly. Their white sauce they give at first with chips was so delicious, too. Give it a try it won't strain your wallet either! read more
