I arrived with a large party for an evening reservation. We were sat quickly, with the remaining members of our group trickling in over about thirty minutes. During the time, our server got us situated with some drinks. The place was quiet, but had several tables occupied. A few drinks seemed to lag behind the others, to the point we needed to follow up on their whereabouts. For the group, we ordered a bunch of appetizers. The guacamole was really yummy, and I particularly enjoyed the esquites. We worked our way through those for a while, but by the time we were ready to order, it took a little while to get the server's attention. When our food started coming out, everyone dug in. The quesadilla I ordered was good, but nothing amazing. We also had one guest's dish come out with an ingredient they had asked to have removed. Finally dessert, my favorite. The stuffed churros hit the spot. Very delicious. I would say it was an enjoyable meal, but not without its foibles. First impressions are the best and most important. We came in to check in for a birthday party. It was 2pm and the reservation was for 2:30pm. The tall hostess with the orange hair was not very polite or friendly. She was not straight out rude but we didn't get a good impression. She made it very clear that the table will be ready only at 2:30. Some of the other guests arriving at 2:15 and they refused to seat them as well. The restaurant was not busy and when you reserve 3 big tables it is expected to seat the party as they come in. The entrance is not big enough for everyone to wait there. They seriously waited till EXACTLY 2:30 to sit us. We had 8 children and they were getting tired waiting. At the end of the day it all leads back to management. Casa del Barco is a chain Mexican restaurant and this location is in Richmond, near the Short Pump mall. There's plenty of free parking in the lot in front of the restaurant and near the mall as well. This location has 2 floors with high top tables, tables indoors, and patio seating. We went on mother's day and were seated immediately upstairs. Something about the restaurant is that the kitchen is downstairs so if you're upstairs, service is a bit slower. I wouldn't recommend sitting upstairs if you're with a large group. Additionally, our server upstairs was a little forgetful even though the restaurant was pretty empty. We asked for utensils, extra plates, and napkins 3x after our food already came to our table, extra chips a few times, and soda refills 2x as well before she remembered to do it since she wasn't writing things down. However, the food definitely made up for the service. Something to note is that chips and salsa do not come complimentary here, but are $4 with unlimited refills. The salsa was delicious and the perfect amount of spicy, would definitely recommend. The esquites were crunchy, smoky, and flavorful. The tinga taco chicken was seasoned and cooked well, the fillings (salsa/salad/sauce) paired well with the chicken, and the size of the tortillas were perfect. The fajitas were also seasoned nicely and warm. Additionally, the tres leches had coconut and strawberries, which was unique, but the cake overall was moist and a good portion. I'd recommend coming here if you want good portioned Mexican food for a reasonable price. I've been to the other location near Canal Walk and remember the food being delicious then too. read more

Girls night out at these delicious spot in Short Pump mall. Plenty of parking at the mall, diff brat the dinner rush. Sat at the bar until one of my girls showed up and we got to enjoy a HH drink. Then when the final guest party showed up we got to grab a seat pretty instantly. It was a great fun time and our server was great. I decided on their Birria de Res Tacos. (corn tortillas, braised brisket, jack cheese, pickled red onion, cilantro, beef consommé. Served with a side of Mexican rice and beans.) it was delicious and hit that craving on the head for me! The server at the next table never acknowledged me, and she did not return to bring water or ask for my order. After another 10-15 minutes, I approached the hostess stand, and she assured me a server would arrive. Five more minutes later, a gentleman said he was dropping off drinks and would return if my server wasn't there. Unfortunately, I saw him walk by again and again without assisting me. I finally left. As someone who's worked serving the public, I am very hesitant to leave a poor review. For starters, this has good things and also not so good. Five of us came today to celebrate my granddaughters birthday. Since it was Sunday, there was a brunch menu in addition to the regular menu. A couple of us gravitated to the Mimosas on the brunch menu as it indicated they came in carafe size. I asked our waitress how many glasses that was in the carafe and she said it was over 2. Great! Two of us ordered that and a couple others ordered margaritas. The waitress came back and said they don't do the carafes now. Ok. I get it but we still ordered them. My sister in law ordered a breakfast burrito- which looked very good and was equally tasty. It was huge in size and could easily be split. Granddaughter had the chicken quesadilla off the kid menu as it didn't have the onions and peppers like the regular one. It was so big she brought half with her. The chicken inside it was chunk grilled chicken which was tasty though several pieces were overcooked. My daughter had the empanadas and they were delicious! My sister had the the chicken quesadillas which were somewhat spicy. I had the crunchy shrimp taco and they were anything but crunchy. The flavors were good but it was definitely messy to eat. I had a side of rice and beans: Spanish rice on one side of a small bowl and black beans that seemed to come right out of a can. The wait staff were attentive and it was a nice place to escape the rain and snow. The kicker came when we received our bills. My sister in law and I both ordered the mimosas which were served in a glass, smaller than a wine glass and kind of like a small water glass/goblet with a short stem. It was not even halfway full and was definitely more orange juice than mimosa. I should have made a comment when we got them but didn't want to be "that customer". BUT when the bill came and we were charged the $14 that was on the menu for the mimosa carafe, I then asked about this. I was told this was the price - even after I commented that it was such a small amount. You'd be lucky if this was in total 2 ounces!! In any event the waitress didn't offer anything but that that was the price even though i indicated it wasn't what was advertised which is really ridiculous. I honestly thought it would have been $7. Strange, but I figured a lot of the staff was off (it was the day after Christmas)? Once we were seated, we waited and waited and waited; no one brought us water, greeted us, or even acknowledged that we were there. A server finally approached a table near us; they had been sitting there since before we arrived. The server took their order and I figured she would take ours next, but nope, she walked right past us. After a hours of shopping at Short Pump, Casa del Barco provided a festive yet relaxing break with a tasty margarita and creative tacos. The dining room occupies an open two-story space decorated with painted tequila bottles, two-story hanging lights, and a mix of table types, from cozy tables for two to larger groups. The menu offers many options of Mexican meals. While we ordered the fish tacos and the beef brisket tacos, trays filled with loudly sizzling and deliciously smelling fajitas passed our table. While the fajitas tempted us, we were set on tacos. They offer platters with either two or three tacos that come with a cup of rice and black beans. You also can order a la carte tacos if you wish to try different proteins. The Baja fish tacos came beer battered with cheese, cabbage, and pico de gallo in a soft shell. They were light and refreshing. The beef brisket tacos were fried and came with a dipping sauce. It was like a version of a French dip. The side of rice and black beans topped with cheese was a nice accompaniment. I had asked if I could replace the beans with the plantains on the menu, but that wasn't possible. I could order the plantains as a side dish or make an a la carte lunch choosing tacos and plantains. The house margarita was just the way I like it: simple without any agave or sweet and sour mix added. If you prefer a sweeter margarita, you can ask to have those added, as well as other additions. Our server was knowledgeable and efficient. We especially liked how they brought the credit card machine to the table after the meal--something other counties have been doing for a long time. It speeds up the check out process, and your credit card never leads your sight. Well fed and recharged, we had a great experience at Casa del Barco, and we'll likely return. read more

I showed up an hour and a half before closing, i seemed to be a bother to the server. And trust me, he made it known. He was very eager to rush me through my experience. I worked in the restaurant industry so I can understand the frustration. however, that seems to be an inside problem versus mine. Yet i paid for it. my food came out less than 10 minutes after I ordered. HORRIBLE quality. i guess the annoyance was both front of house and back of house. I was still eating my queso and not even one minute later he comes back and says "do you not like it?" seeing that i haven't even taken a bite of it. he was walking past constantly, even on the phone at one point. so uncomfortable. food was not worth it, service didn't make it any better. read more
