Having lived in South Korea and sampled a few fusion spots in and around Seoul...Wong's, with its awesome setup and really amazing food has those spots beat! My brothers and I were in the Short Pump area and decided to give Wong Tacos a try after stumbling across it. The restaurant itself is spacious, with vibrant colors and large murals that create a fun, energetic atmosphere. The service really stood out, our server, Ashtyn, was attentive, friendly, and very knowledgeable about the menu. She explained the restaurant's Asian-Mexican fusion concept and even shared details about other locations and upcoming openings, which added a nice personal touch. We started with chips and three dips, and you could immediately taste the fusion influence, the chips had a unique texture and flavor, almost like a blend of wonton strips and traditional tortilla chips. The menu offered a wide variety of fajitas, single tacos and sides, giving us plenty of options to choose from. Tried the tempura shrimp bao buns, the Three Amigos (dip trio), and Wong John Silver taco. Food kinda bland, especially the pico de gallo (though seasoned heavily with black pepper), and the bao buns were cold. I did, however, really enjoy their batters for the fried seafood (tempura and beer batter, though the two were very similar). Service is lacking a bit. Strangely, about 5-10 min after the apps arrived, the server told me she was waiting to put my taco in and to let her know when I was ready? Top notch service today! I found that on one previous visit the service was a bit lacking. Immediately greeted and brought to the bar area where I requested o sit. The server/bartender immediately brought me menus and some water. He checked in on me after a few minutes asking if I had any questions. Once ordered my food was presented within 10 minutes which is appreciated at lunch time. I ordered the 2 taco special which came with chips, dip and plantains. The food was hot and tasty, I ordered the jerk chick and Korean brisket tacos. The restaurant has an elevated Mexican theme and is very comfortable. We were in town for a short weekend and wanted to try something close to our hotel but unique to the area. My family loves Asian and Mexican cuisine and thought this is the perfect spot blending our loves. While they were busy, we were immediately greeted and taken to seats. The interior is a unique blend of both cultures but doesn't feel cohesive and complimentary. A few murals on the wall represent the Hispanic culture and paper lanterns and a few scattered oriental items scattered around. Decor aside, the menu had an interesting mix of items. I think k this spot missed an opportunity to offer a fusion "chips and salsa" item that is so common and welcomed with Mexican establishments. Asian cuisine has so many tasty Saunders that would be fantastic on some chips. We decided to do a tasting of a few different things. We tried the crispy brussel sprouts, shrimp bao buns, chorizo eggrolls, chili lime chicken tacos, mexinese fried rice and beef bulgogi fajitas. Food seems like it comes out as it's ready so we had Brussel sprouts shortly after ordering , followed by bao buns, chicken tacos and eggrolls. The fajitas took awhile to come out so we snack on what had arrived. Brussel sand accompanying sauce were excellent. The shrimp were huge and delicious , the sauce on the bao buns was amazing. The bun its self was weird. It had a crumbly texture and would not stay together. It was almost like it was a corn tortilla not soft and chewy like I'm accustomed to in bao buns. We ended up eating the filling only. The chorizo eggrolls were delicious and unique. The chili lime tacos were ok. Nothing special and not as tasty as our other dishes. When the bulgogi fajitas came out they had an excellent presentation however they were extremely chewy and missing that signature crispy pieces. They were our most disappointing order. Service is always friendly, if not always speedy. Drinks are always tasty. The issue the last 2 visits was the crispy chicken - on both tacos and on a salad. The chicken was overcooked and tough. But worse was that it was tasteless - NO seasoning of any kind. This seems like a super basic oversight/mistake. Even with sauce, the chicken was almost inedible. TLDR; favorite taco spot in the area! Food is delicious, the restaurant is fun and the food is reasonably priced Vibes - Wong's tacos is so fun! I love the bold decor and patio space. The waiters are nice and the music is never too loud. Food - I find that all of these taco spots are about ordering the right thing. For me, that's the quesadilla (chicken or brisket are both excellent) the kung pao chicken taco (so flavorful) and the shrimp tempura taco (my FAV! Mild flavor, a little spice, so good!). I don't venture away from these favorites because I've been underwhelmed by some of their other tacos. In terms of portion size, I recommend 3 tacos for an adult and split an appetizer or quesadilla to help round out the meal. The tacos are delicious but small so you definitely need more than one. read more

This was my first time here. I came with two friends who raved about the tacos. I decided to try a crispy brussel sprout and a crispy Kung Pao chicken taco. Both tacos were cold when served, which made the chicken pretty tough to eat. I really liked the flavor of the brussel sprout taco as it had a lot of spice, but was kind of disappointed with the lackluster Kung Pao chicken, which was not spicy at all. Later I decided to order a Bulgogi Asada taco, which was served warm, but was dripping with oil and also had very little flavor. I am in the area for work and decided to grab a quick dinner at Wong's Tacos because who doesn't love Asian and Mexican fusion lol? Service was great as I was greeted the minute I walked in and there were friendly and thorough bartenders / servers at the bar. I unexpectedly hit a double jackpot as it was both Happy Hour and Taco Tuesday so I decided to enjoy a house margarita and try four different tacos. The margarita was refreshing with a nice kick but the only taco that I loved was The El Blanco. The Jerk Chicken taco was cold, the oyster mushroom taco was a bit too sweet and the shrimp tempura taco wasn't crispy. Two Wong's don't make a right... but they sure do make a damn good taco. This was a last minute punt for lunch as we had just arrived into town, settled into our hotel and checked around for food. Tacos was the consensus and Wong's got the nod (after checking Yelp of course). Walking in greets you with an open and bright space, full of booths along the wall for a more intimate experience, as well as open long tables in the center for a group vibe. We three chose the bar with its view of the world from center stage. Speaking of the bar... it is well stocked, and they seem to pride themselves on the tequila selection, but I was disappointed in the bartender's knowledge (or lack thereof) as to his recommendation for a sipping tequila. I am a bourbon guy, and love to taste other spirits that could provide a similar taste and sensory experience to my favorite whiskies... being a bartender with such a wide array of distilled spirits should also equate to at least a basic understanding of their characteristics and differences. Instead, he just put a menu card down in front of me with their tequila choices and asked what I wanted. No thanks... The food service made up for the bartender's faults, as the tacos were fresh, fast, and packed with flavor. I chose the pork belly, and korean tacos with a side of guac, and was not disappointed at all! We had our respective orders delivered within minutes of placing them, and they were all on point. Amazing food! Even better service. We went on a Friday right at 5pm, and it was packed by 530! The waiter/waitress was attentive throughout and made some awesome recommendations. Beautifully decorated and clean throughout. The food is great! The tacos were super flavorful and the toppings were fresh. I took home leftovers and they reheated well and tasted almost better the next day. The crispy brussel sprouts and Kung pao chicken are my favorites by far. And the street corn is so insanely delicious. The margaritas were very sweet. Maybe I'm a margarita snob, but I much prefer fresh margs made without a mixer, and these tasted like a margarita mix straight from the bottle you'd find in a grocery store. Came here on a Wednesday night and order the chorizo chimichangas ($16), Wongs street corn ($6), and a brussell sprout taco($4). The street corn was different compared to most traditional elote. It was corn off the cob instead of it being on a cob which was a weird feeling. Definitely a different experience, personally a little too different texture wise, flavor was ok. The chorizo chimichangas was also ok, the queso on top helped add flavor to the rice. Chorizo was alright. The Brussel sprout taco was perhaps the only highlight, great flavor from the charred Brussels spout and creama sauce. Service was average at best with the wait staff being below average. My husband and I were both working from home and wanted to go out for a quick lunch. We've eaten at Wong Gonzales and really liked it, and every time we pass Wongs Tacos it's been crazy busy, so we picked Wongs for our lunch date. We sat on the patio since the weather was amazing. Alex was our server and he was awesome! We ordered iced tea and coke, and place an order for the wings and chorizo egg rolls. We got the jerk wings which were supposed to be spicy but they weren't. Don't get me wrong, they were really good but I love spicy food and these were mild at best. The egg rolls were missing the crunch. They were chewy vs crispy like a good egg roll should be. Makes me wonder if they fry them in advance and they sit under a heat lamp? Anyway, they needed more crunch but the filling was tasty. For our mains I got the bibimbap with a side of kimchi and my husband got two of the green curry shrimp tacos made into lettuce wraps and one of the brisket Birra taco. He loved both of them. I really enjoyed my bibimbap but the yolk of my egg wasn't runny and that would have made it off the hook! As it was it was delicious and I would definitely order it again. I'll start off by saying that we did not eat here, my lunch mate *did* get to order a drink and really liked it (it was either called a Dreamsicle or something similar, made with local Moonshine). That being said, I walked in and told them that I had an egg allergy and the hostess/waitress gave me their allergen chart to review as we looked over the menu. The chart was a spreadsheet and easy to follow, but seemed to contradict itself as you reviewed it closely. You'd see something that was available on multiple menu items listed as certain allergens (for example, eggs) but that same allergen was not listed on the same food on another menu item. I choose one item from the menu and the waitress went into the kitchen to ask them if it contained egg, it did (and it wasn't listed as containing egg on their allergen sheet). I also noticed that one menu item contained coconut and it was *NOT* listed as a tree nut. Coconuts are, indeed, considered a tree nut. The FDA has removed them from the major allergen list but it *is* still considered a tree nut; when I got home, I confirmed this on the FDA website's "FAQ: Food Allergen Labeling Guidance for Industry" page. At that point, I began to doubt the sheet entirely and the waitress sensed my frustration so went in to get the chef. The chef and (I assume) manager came out to speak with us. They didn't introduce themselves, and the presumptive manager just charged ahead with his agenda regarding allergies. I stated that I understand that sometimes menu changes and it's hard to keep the allergen sheet up with menu changes. I pointed out the discrepancies that we noticed in the differing menu items, including the coconut/tree nut thing. Immediately the manager said "it's not a tree nut" and we responded that it is and he said "it is not, we looked it up, I'm not going to argue" then proceeded with what was going to be an argument of some sort (which we cut short by informing him, again, that he is wrong). I'm not sure why but he got up and walked away (I think he said he was going to grab something, but he never came back). The chef was VERY patient and polite and listened and answered questions and asked follow up questions (all the right things). I got frustrated and thanked her (or at least I hope I did) and explained that I was frustrated and just wasn't comfortable eating when I couldn't be sure what was in each dish. Let's just say, there were too many discrepancies. Before walking away, the manager had said that they'd cover the drink, but just in case we relayed that information to the waitress before we left. We did, of course, tip our waitress. It's not her fault and she did the right thing by asking the chef to come out when she realized that the allergen issue was getting frustrating to us. It's right up my alley food-wise, especially for weekend lunch - the menu is mostly stuff that could be considered light or in some cases shared. They do a great job with spices and sauces. Today I had Nachos Supremo, which had beef brisket, chicken, and shrimp (nicely separated on the dish) and it was one of the best plates of nachos I've ever had. Nice happy hour and drink specials. So sad that all you find along the interstate is fast food, but a quick detour (less than 5 mins off I-64) and we found great food. Bulgogi burritos, green curry shrimp tacos, tempura mahi tacos! Cooked to perfection - hands down my favorite dish Brisket Bao - This was flavorful - the bao buns were extra soft. El Blanco Taco - This is the closest you will get to an "Americanized" taco - its ground beef, pico de gallo and a queso sauce. Shrimp Tempura Taco - This taco was interesting - but none the less really good. Peruvian Chicken Taco - This was a special of the day - this would be my favorite taco next to the El Blanco taco. The Jerk Chicken Taco - Small kick but very flavorful. Tres Leches Cake - Definitely in our top 5 as far are Tres Leches cake in the RVA area.
