Chicken wings, not Szechuan chicken which I ordered.
    Lauren S.

I really wanted to like this place. Pointing at the menu, I ordered Szechuan chicken in the restaurant for carry out. When I got home I was disappointed to find chicken wings and a container of sweet chili sauce. My boyfriend got the house fried rice. It was good but didn't look like the picture in the menu. We traded meals and he says the chicken wings are "sweet, delicious and meaty". Just not what I ordered.

Mi La Cay is located in the Viet section of International District and is a solid choice if you're craving egg noodles. The egg noodles are super bouncy and the broth is manages to be light yet delicious. Unfortunately, I wasn't super impressed by the toppings. The lettuce they use isn't the freshest and is slightly bitter, the chicken was definitely overcooked and a bit too chewy, BUT the fried whole shrimp cracker is a fantastic crunchy texture and just smacks you in the face with shrimp flavor in the best way possible. Logistically, it's awesome that they have their own parking lot and they were fairly empty on a Tuesday night. Pricing is pretty good and they do take credit card. Here's the thing though, I don't know when the next time I'll be back because apparently competition for egg noodle dishes in this area is tight! Mike's Noodle House is still for me the best spot in the area to get wonton noodles both in quality and price point; however, if you want this dish after 7PM on a weekday, don't have cash on hand, or don't want to hunt for parking, this is a solid alternative. On the other hand, if I'm shelling out a bit more, I might just walk down the street to the Boat, which just has objectively better toppings. Overall, still great, but probably won't be a regular.

Food: Crispy succulent duck with bouncy egg noodles for breakfast is a great way to start off a morning. That broth was to die for. You definitely have to add some chili oil and pickled jalapeños peppers, it really elevates the taste. Service: Sweet and charming. We got there a few minutes early before opening, but they let us in anyways. Ambiance: Clean and neat.

Mi La Cay is one of those places I just always want to keep coming back to. Definitely the best place for mi (Vietnamese egg noodle soup) in the area. I love how many soup options there are and how it's very customizable. Everything I've tried is good but the standout favorites for me are the bbq duck and the fried shrimp - with the soup on the side so they stay crispy!

While the server was not the friendliest or warm staff person at the time, the meal was really good. Not too salty and very flavorful. I would definitely come again and try their other noodles :) I would recommend maybe bok choy instead of lettuce though. It's more nutritious and has more flavor than lettuce.

3.5 Stars. Good portions and perfect on a breezy day but nothing was that flavorful. Ordered takeout and food was ready in 15 minutes Shrimp Spring Rolls ($8) - comes with Hoisin dipping sauce (wish it was peanut), good size and tightly wrapped Duck Noodle Soup ($14.5) - nice crispy pieces of duck and chewy egg noodles (choose egg or rice) primary flavor of the broth was salt, added a ton of sriracha for more flavor though House Noodle Soup ($13) - loved the variety of toppings! Like the crispy shrimp wonton disc! Same comments about broth and noodles as the duck noodle soup. Loved how everything was perfectly packaged. Choose small or large. Located in International District, didn't eat in but the interior was so nice!

This place used to be soooo goooood. They'd have fresh veggies, the fried prawn would be so crispy, but it just seems with time things just aren't the same anymore. Flavor and taste is still really good, from the soup to the noodles but it's just not what it used to be. I used to come here all the time but the last two times I went post covid they've gotten my order wrong and as mentioned the food is just not that fresh. I typically get house / special with thick egg noodle with extra prawn. Wish I could give it a 5 star but I can't!

Updating because this is my staple soup noodle place, esp after Hue Ky Mi Gia closed. Whenever I'm feeling down weather wise or sick wise, I typically get: - House noodle soup: the fried shrimp is the best part - Wonton and bbq pork noodles - Duck noodles I always get egg noodles. Hoping this restaurant stays in business for a long time. Oh I also dined in recently, it was quiet, not too busy and the staff was kind.

In a local FB group, I read that Mi La Cay has suffered a decrease in business due to COVID-19 related threats to Asian businesses. Though I have never eaten there, I made an effort to try them, and I am quite pleased I did. We've only tried two dishes, but I'll definitely return. The food: Satay Beef Noodle with side dipping soup - 4 stars The egg noodles in this dish is thin and perfectly cooked. The satay sauce is excellent. I can eat just the noodles and the sauce by themselves! The beef is quite good, though a touch more tender would be nice. It's still very good. Prawn Papaya Salad - 4 stars I like the composition, the ratio of contents, and the quality of the prawns. I thought the sauce could be a bit stronger, but that's just me. Overall, this is a solid dish. They are allowing folks to dine in. When I was there, all the chairs are still on the tables, and two diners are seated for a meal.

Went this evening with my family. Place is clean, ordered many foods and it was made right away! Owner is nice as well and the food quality is great! This place is a hidden gem and a must try!

    Small House Noodle Soup Takeout
    Jacques I.

While in the International District, I wanted to check out Mi La Cay, a restaurant I had bookmarked for quite some time, learning that it was known for their noodle soups. Though getting noodle soup takeout isn't as good as dining in, my lunch was still delicious. I ordered the small house noodle soup, which included pork, fried chicken and fried shrimp with the egg noodles. The employee asked me if I wanted the soup mixed with the base or separate, and I decided separate was best, since my boyfriend and I were planning to drive back to the eastside to eat our food at a park. I didn't want the noodles to be soggy. Nice to know you have both options. Since I walked in and ordered, I thought the food would take a bit to get after ordering, but it only took 10 minutes for it to be done. The food was delicious! The broth was my favorite part, as it had a lot of great flavor and was still hot, even getting it as takeout. The egg noodles were also very good, especially when slurped with the broth. Of all the meats, I liked the pork the best. The pork was very tender. Fried chicken wasn't bad, but the piece I got was mostly bone. I also only got one piece of fried shrimp; yet, I was happily surprised that the fried shrimp was made with a fried wonton, so you could really bite into the entire shrimp with the way it was cooked into the wonton versus having to deal with de-shelling the shrimp. I also liked that for takeout, I received a side of the chili oil and jalapenos for some needed spice with the noodle soup. A small was a good size for a meal. I enjoyed my house noodle soup from Mi La Cay, and would definitely come back to try other noodle soups or rice noodle dishes they offer here. Parking was easy, as it's located in a small business strip with a lot. Also note that they do not accept Amex.

Each visit left me feeling like I had wasted both my time and money. I've had both the Pho Dac Biet and Pho Saté, and each broth fell short for different reasons. The meat portions were sparse, and the pricing does not justify the quality or quantity of the food. There are simply too many better pho options in the area at this price point.

Although the food is good, I can't confidently say I'll be back. Food & drink: (4/5) We had a great start with the calamari with salted egg yolk sauce. The squid was very easy to chew through with almost zero resistance and the batter was incredibly light and crispy. The sauce was pretty light on the salted egg yolk flavor. I found that if the menu hadn't said so, I wouldn't have known it was anything other than a spicy mayo. For our entrees, I got the BBH and my partner got the banh hoi platter. The BBH is definitely one of their must try items. The broth was extremely flavorful and the meat was sooo tender. I just with they included shredded banana blossom since that's a pretty essential topping to have on BBH. It does also have more meat to noodle ratio than most BBHs I've had, so that's something I would keep in mind before ordering. My partner thought the banh hoi platter was a bit disappointing. He said the banh was dried out and the proteins such as the shrimp on sugarcane were a bit bland. He also said he wished they included scallion oil. To wash it all down, I got a kumquat jasmine tea. It definitely ran on the sweeter side but was no issue since I just poured some of my water in it to dilute the drink. Service: (5/5) Outstanding service! We were served by two different people and they were both incredible throughout our entire dinner. Other notes: In most cases, I would leave a review like this at four stars. I'm subtracting one star because I believe there are some management issues based off what I observed just from sitting in. For the most part this place seems to be severely understaffed. When we came to dinner, it was a full house with a line forming but they only had two servers running the entire floor, including those eating outside. To say they looked stressed is an understatement. As we were paying, they thanked us for being kind customers in a way that made it seem like they realllyyy needed some kindness.

The custard duck egg is an excellent starter, with a rich, savory broth that delivers a deep, yolky umami punch. The radicchio pudding was light and offered a clean, almost grassy brightness without being overwhelming in flavors. Great option for any vegans at the table. The wagyu beef tallow fries were some of the best fries I've ever had. Ultra-crispy, perfectly thick-cut, and deeply flavorful with beef notes shining through, without being too heavy. Like many of the dishes here, perfectly balanced in flavor. The grilled eggplant with whipped tofu and crispy sun chokes was another standout. The tofu whip was so smooth and should be considered a worthy sub for mayo. The eggplant was soft, creamy, and perfectly charred. The garlic rice was incredibly savory and maybe my favorite version of it yet. Packed with the perfect depth of garlicky flavor and seasoning. Finally for dessert - I thought the durian fruit cup was decent, it's great for durian lovers but next time I will be back to try their other desserts. The hollow bread is a must-try.
