This place is an absolute hidden gem. Rarely do you find a restaurant where there is so much pride taken in their food. The food is excellent, and the service is outstanding. We ate at this restaurant last night. The food was really good and the service (by the owner) was very hands on and informative. We had never experienced Colombian cuisine so we had to ask for recommendations. I had a steak, with egg, bacon, plantains and rice along with an appetizer of empanadas (chicken and beef). It was really good and different from any other ethnic food that I have had. In short, this restaurant is long on food, service and interesting fare. It is a little short on atmosphere, but that is made up for by the reasonable prices. It is also BYOB, so bring a bottle of wine. One thing I noticed was there were several tables where Spanish was being spoken by the customers. I think that is reason enough to recommend this restaurant as an implied testimonial. read more

Recently moved to the area and was looking for a good Colombian restaurant. This one definitely fit the bill. The empanadas were very good, the fresh natural juices were delicious and everything we tasted was great. We had the sancocho which was some of the best I've tasted. Just had awesome dinner with my wife here. Based on other reviewers, I had the mixed plate with the chorizo and skirt steak. Highly recommended my wife had the special. Seafood soup she raved about it she also got the Columbia tamale which was quite large and very delicious. I will be going back. The dining room is bare bones it is a grocery store. I come here about one a month and its one of my favorite places to eat. I never really had Colombian food until a friend took my here, but I now like it BETTER than mexican food. You must get the empanadas here. Even the pickiest of eaters will love these. I generally go for the beef or the chicken empanada and put generous amounts of the hot, orange, habenero sauce on the table. For the main course, I normally go for the cazuelita (bowl of rice, beans, chorizo, carne asada, and Colombian Bacon). Colombian Bacon is nothing like our Bacon..arguably better and something you must try. I'm not an expert on Colombian food, but I am hooked on this place! On a scale of 1-5 (five being the best, they score in all the categories that matter to me) Taste of food -5 Attentive, friendly service - 5 Variety of food -5 Prices (servings are ample)-5 The first time we went, we each got a complimentary empenada.. YUM. I've only been there twice, but I know I'm going back. On my first visit, I had Cazuelita Mi Pais with different meats and rice and beans in a big bowl. oh.. and the bacon..I'm not really a bacon person, but this was amazing. The second time around I had Bandeja Paisa..which was also.. amazing. I think I might just go down the menu and order something different each time. I am interested to see what the taste difference between this tamale and a mexican one. DON'T pass on dessert! Loved both the flan and tres leches. The flan flavors were mango and another. We tried both, but I don't remember what the other flavor was.. but trust me, it was good. Oh I forgot, if you order a drink (like juice), they have this blended juice I think with milk mixed in. Sorry again, I forgot what it's called. We had the mango and it was sweet, but what a treat! Overall, there's nothing bad I can say about this place. I'm a fan! read more

We ate here for the first time tonight. The place is very modest but we happen to like that. We were greeted by the owner who was very warm and welcoming. Our waiter was equally charming and he suggested that we try the empanadas which we did. We tried the Hawaiian, the Argentinian and another with chicken. All three were really delicious. Three types of sauces ranging from a mild cilantro to a 'be careful" heat accompanied them. The cilantro one was fantastic. We could have stopped there but we kept going. I had arroz con pollo with sweet plantains and salad. The rice had olives in it which gave the dish a great saltiness. The plantains were really tasty too. Just like ones we had on a recent trip to Miami. My son had steak and said it was great. Overall it was a fun experience trying new food and the staff was delightful. We took empanadas to go too! I'm always on the lookout for good ethnic fare here in the 'burbs, so was happy to hear about this place. I'm not familiar with Colombian food so I can't say how authentic it is, but it's hearty, country-style fare, the type that you expect peasants or laborers to eat. This is NOT an insult. It's filling and satisfying, but heavy with meat, fat and starches. Do NOT come here if you're on a diet, unless you're disciplined with portion control and doggy bag the rest. Then again, you could just stick with individual orders of the Hawaiian and Argentine empanadas; as others have attested, they were awesome. The Cazuleta Mi Pais was okay. I'm eager to try out the other dishes. One small nit: I wished the waiter wrote out the prices on the bill instead of just giving a total. Otherwise, both food and service were great. read more

Last night (July 3, 2015) my boyfriend and I went to Mi Pais. This is our special treat meal. Everything is always amazing. It was extremely busy last night, but our meal came out fast and the wait staff was wonderfully friendly (like always). Even though it was busy, it truly did NOT feel like it. The wait staff were very attentive and sociable. I always wish I could tip them more, but sadly I'm a poor college student (if I could I would leave a 50++% tip because it would be completely worth it). I love this place and it will always be a place that I come back to again and again. Don't be afraid to try new things and always get empanadas. You should leave here with a full belly for sure. I ordered "Cazuelita Mi País" and it was the best meal I ever had. The restaurant doesn't look like much from the outside, but go in. It will be the best meal you have had in a long time or ever. Oh, and if you can't tell already I am in love with the wait staff. I usually hate waiters, but at this place I am IN LOVE. read more

Very good! Super nice owner and staff. Incredibly friendly and helpful (we were first timers at a Columbian restaurant). I had yucca fries, fresh cheese and a sandwich type thing. My friend had the signature plate without the pork sausage and bacon. They even reduced the price because she doesn't eat pork!! Hot, fresh, fast, casual, friendly and reasonably priced! I LOVE THIS PLACE! The entire staff is friendly - from the front door to the kitchen staff, everyone made sure I was enjoying my food. MY FOOD WAS AMAZING, Hawaiian Emanadas --YUMMY, Argentinian Emanadas- SUPER YUMMY, Pork Kabobs were tender and well seasoned, sweet plantains.. were just that SWEET and YUMMY. The place is amazing. I had empanadas, milanesa de pollo, chicharrones (Colombian bacon), and platanos fritos. Everything was amazing and reminded me of my time traveling through South America. The staff is super friendly and very welcoming of both newcomers and people looking for an opportunity to keep up on their Spanish in the USA. I was given a college assignment to try a new food that I had never had from a culture that I would like to learn more about. After looking at a map and realizing that I had never had Colombian food I searched online and found Mi Pais with excellent reviews so off I went. My daughter and I were met by Raul with a warm handshake and plenty of advise for someone like me willing to try something new and delicious. We started by sharing each type of empanada (Yum- I thought pineapple? really? and it was my favorite!) with the secret family sauce....don't ask, you can't have the recipe, lol. Then I tried the tamale (do I eat the leaf?? No, well, it was my first time) while my daughter had the Colombian mixed plate (with that bacon!)- all delicious and we were so full! The family is so nice, and Raul's mother in law came over to see how we were enjoying everything. I had many questions and they were very gracious about answering me.We took some maduros home along with a package of arepas. Lastly, the passion fruit milkshakes are the BEST!!! The market was nicely organized, next time we will try more new things. read more
