The Bandeja hit the spot. I love places that serve dishes where you can get everything. Let's talk about the stars of the dish: The columbian bacon, chorizo, steak were all delicious. Went tonight this place is fantastic! The service is excellent and the owner, Juan, is very friendly. I had the "crazy green plantain" with shrimp which was massive. My sister had the fried tilapia which was fresh and incredibly delicious. The sweet plantain was so good that I'm going to try and pick some up on my way to Chicago tomorrow. Mi Pais is great! Excellent food, outstanding service, great prices. It doesn't get better than this :) Try the Colombian and Argentinian empandas, they are delicious. The arepas with chicken, cheese and avocado are to die for! And my ultimate favorite dish is 'Cazuelita Mi Pais' which has a great combo of flavors in a perfect-smaller size for those like me who like to watch what we eat but who love great flavors. Which is weird that they charged me for sharing food.. I think I got charged $4 for sharing a dish with my friend. I am lucky to have this restaurant so near me. I got the chicken soup and two of each of all the empanadas. And extra green sauce (the mild sauce???). To my delight they now sell the sauce in a jar, which I promptly purchased. I put that sauce on everything. Soup was delicious as always and the empanadas were great. Worst Empanadas ever, they had no flavor and had barely any meat!!! Bought them for my friends birthday party and ended up throwing more than half away because nobody wanted them. My friends trusted my judgement to bring good food. Since I am of Central American decent, they probably trusted my judgement. Well, everyone was very disappointed in me, and I felt like a huge failure! But it was you who failed to make decent empanadas! It was soooo awkward looking around the room to see all my friends frowning and not enjoying their food. I've made better empanadas and I'm no cook. Since I wanted to try a variety, I had the "Bandeja Mi País", a version of a traditional Columbian platter which has rice, red beans, egg, grilled steak, chorizo, Colombian bacon and plantains. It's a lot of food, and I took half home. The chorizo was great and the Colombian bacon is to die for (it would probably actually kill you to eat it every day, but You would die happy). Will be back many times. Noticed many apparent regulars coming just for empanadas, so there must be something good there. read more

Went to Mi País for the first time yesterday. I used to live in Colombia and know what good Paisa (the region of Colombia where the owners are from, the states of Antioquia and Caldas) food is and Mi País nails it spot-on. The hospitality is wonderful and your hosts are so gracious. The arepa is almost a Venezuelan style, split in two and stuffed - delicious. The "frijoles" are homemade and made with plantains - with a splash of pique hot sauce, Avé María Pues! We also had the "chicharron" (slice deep fried pork skin" de "12 patas". Delicious actually smoked before cooking, very unique. I hadn't even had that before in the "estadero" restaurants in the Rio Negro Valle of Antioquia. For a beverage, a 12 OZ "Colombiana" soda imported from Colombia. No tinto (coffee) this time but I could smell it. Summary - if you want to explore Colombian food, go straight to Mi Pais. There are options in the Philly area, but this is the read deal. The place isn't fancy, but it's authentic and easy to get to in and out, something hard to find in SE Pennsylvania. We stopped in for empanadas for take out and were surprised you could eat in. So we did. The empanadas were great. The beef and Argentinian were good. The cheese one was ok. I had the chicken soup which was the Monday special. It was wonderful. It had potatoes and pasta and lots of chicken. We then had the shrimp and plantain appetizer. The flank steak was very tender. Rice too of course. And we split the tres leches cake. Everything was good. They have two big TVs to watch while you eat Owners are very friendly.
