Everyone working was extremely nice and friendly. The store was a little smoky but I was met with the mouthwatering smell as soon as I opened the door. I love this place. We are always looking for authentic Mexican and Mi Pueblito has a great food counter that offers some tasty choices. We go on Taco Tuesday since most of the street tacos are $1.49 each. They have quite a few proteins to choose from and a few more that aren't on the special price. The tamales are also delicious and very reasonably priced at less than $2 each. They have puerco rojo and pollo verde. I've tried both and love both! There's also a market and in the back is a large meat market. I grabbed some Pastor to cook at home last time I visited. The only negative I have is that as a small business, they run out of certain foods so you need to be ready to change your order if you go later in the day and it's a market so the ambiance of eating there is not anything special but I many folks just get it to go. Well, we decided since it is Tuesday, let's get some tacos. Authentic Mexican food beyond our expectations. We have been all over Mexico from Cabo to Mazatlan to Puerto Vallarta, to Cancou, to Playacar, to Mexico City. Been there, done that. Super delicioso great tacos. You can purchase ingredients such as corn husks, masa, and Mexican cheeses that cannot be found at other area grocery stores, and if you're not feeling like cooking they have a wide variety of delicious hot food ready to eat! Don Alonso (the owner) is a pretty genuine person, I had the opportunity to meat him a couples years back but overall let's not allow that to allow me to have a opinion about this place. I didn't sit and eat but I did get carne al pastor preparada, ready to just cook! The meat from their butchery is fresh and looks well kept. The location is very clean and the staff is nice. A slightly hidden gem in Shawnee! Working within walking distance here has given me the opportunity to eat here numerous times. I always select the street style tacos and usually order steak. Sitting on these small corn tortillas is a generous portion of the meat of your choosing and of course cilantro and onion (optional). A side of rice is a must as well. After getting to the end of the line you are able to take more cilantro and onion if wanted but more importantly two selections of hot sauce. I have not ventured out more into their menu but everything theyhave on display in front of you looks fantastic. If you're looking for some great authentic food, then you definitely have to step inside this market! The service at the counter could have been faster and more efficient, and the sauces at the toppings bar needed to be restocked, while the spartan dining area was clean with Mexican background music (a little too loud). I recently moved in the area and was thrilled to see this meat market! I've been here at least 2 times a week for the last month for tacos. I always order 3-4 carne asada tacos, corn, with cilantro and onion. Tacos are regularly $1.59/corn and $1.99/flour and to my surprise $1 (at least for corn) in Tuesday's!! I did read some reviews before I went for my first time because I get nervous going to places alone for the first time, so they were all very helpful! It should be noted that the women in the kitchen area speak Spanish. If you're not willing to learn Spanish to communicate or don't have patience when trying to communicate with someone else, don't go here. It's an authentic Mexican meat market. The tacos and food are very delicious, you should try there tamales that are very good. The corn tamales are by the entrance on the left side next to where they put the fresh salsas and cakes. If you have never try them they are sweet, when I leave in Mexico my grandma, my mom and aunt they use to sale food to provide for our family so we always had tamales, raspados, buñuelos, capirotada and few other foods. But my grandma prepare the tamales that where 6 different flavors and the corn tamales from here remind me of the ones my grandma made us. The meat department all the way back has great meat to pick from, but if you want something hot and ready to eat try the crunchy chicharrones and the meat. Welcome to Shawnee Mi Pueblito! I was really happy to find out this market was just a few miles away from me, and it didn't disappoint when I made my first visit. It's clean, bright, and laid out well. From the fruit and vegetables to the shelved items, I was impressed, especially by the meat counter. There were selections that you typically wouldn't find at a lot of the chain stores, and at reasonable prices. The same went for the shelved items, reasonable prices and quite a few specialty selections. A couple items that raised my eyebrows were the long stalks of sugar cane and especially those chicharonnes, oh my. They had some that seemed to be the size of a small pig. Although too big for me, they were still just as impressive. They had a good selection of dried chili, which I know will be a frequent purchase for me, as well as the spices and hot sauce. I can't forget to mention the Mexican breads. I was there early when they were stocking the shelves with quite a few different yummy types. I was quickly formulating my shopping list in my head for my next visit. I didn't try anything from the food counter this trip, but that will soon be a thing of the past. I gave the menu the once over, and there were quite a few intriguing items, and they were very reasonably priced. The staff was friendly, and the music playing overhead was a nice touch. I grew up in Shawnee and it tickles me pink that this place used to be where I got my strep tests and vaccines done. I love that there's a market here and it's great to see some of the older residents of Shawnee coming here to pick up their household basics and trying some food they've probably never had before (see my review on Mr. D's, same guys appear to be moving down 75th street for lunch). Tacos are cheap, 1.29 a piece, and decent. Salsas are all excellent, especially the avocado tomatillo (but that's just my personal preference). Got out of here with two tacos, a horchata, and a Mexican coke all for a little over five dollars. I've also done some grocery shopping here when I find myself back in the great state of Kansas, and the produce is of good quality and lasts. A worthy successor to the Dillon's that used to anchor this shopping center. With the changing demographics of Shawnee, I cannot wait to see what comes next. read more

I'm new to the Kansas City area, from Northwest Indiana/Chicago area where there is a huge Hispanic population and an abundance of Mexican mercados. Mi Pueblito isn't what I'm used to but it is the best that I've found after a year of hunting. Besides having what I need for my Hispanic/Mexican dishes (also enjoy Puerto Rican & Cuba cuisine) it's kitchen/restaurant is also great.
