Disappointed. I haven't ate here in awhile but decided to splurge on my favorite Mexican restaurant. The Tiaquana combo didn't have any flavor, the chorizo tastes like it's gone bad, the chips are stale and the guac doesn't have any flavor. My go to restaurant when seeing a show at the Newton Theater. Great selection of popular Mexican dishes. Friendly staff and clean bright dining area. Had the birria taco special and was thinking these were small but damn...very filling and tasty. That sauce was...mmm! The food was terrible ..... All four of us went out to eat at this Mexican restaurant. The enchiladas we ordered had the cheapest and worst chicken and other ingredients in them. I found gristle and a small bone while eating the food. The refried beans don't even look like beans. The place was not the best atmosphere. The bowl salad was awful too. Worst ever. My manager and I got lunch at this restaurant. When we arrived I parked on the street nearby. We walked in and was greeted and told to sit anywhere. Our server was Stephanie and she was nice. For my meal I got the Mexican shrimp meal and my boss got the shrimp tacos. When the meals came out they looked good. I dug in and the shrimp and sauce tasted good along with the rice and beans. Went here before seeing show at the Newton performing arts center. The municipal lot is right behind the restaurant so it is convenient. The food was very good. Like that it's BYOB. But, the service was really slow. And the restaurant was not crowded. We were there for 1.5 hours and we still were late to the show. They apologized for the wait. Great find! You know when you get a menu and there's a picture for every single menu item that the food's gonna be good. The menu has all of the classic Mexican dishes you're looking for. We sat next to a heater and that was honestly so fantastic since it was so cold out. Toasty seats and delicious food? Come on. I only deducted a star because while the food was REALLY good, it didn't knock my socks off. I would definitely still recommend this establishment! It is a BYOB, and we usually bring some sangria and beer with us. They have complimentary chips and salsa. Our go to favorites are the Mi Rancho quesadilla and the mixed fajita. Most of their entrees come with a nice helping of rice and refried beans. You will not leave Mi Rancho hungry and we usually end up having delicious leftovers for the next day. Ordered take out for the first time... highly disappointed and wish I hadn't. Food was thrown together poorly... see picture. The taco shells are so stale, it's gross. The guacamole is made with liquid guacamole paste, not fresh at all. And the steak in the tacos is just bottom Of the barrel low quality... every bite has tendon... seriously. There's also barely any lettuce at all. This dish was $16!!! Would have been better off going to Taco Bell and spent half the money. I suspect there are new owners, because my most recent visit experienced a real drop in quality of the food. Place didn't have the same vibe. Staff always smiled in the past, but not now.
