Made to order shrimp quesadilla, huge taco salad, chilies with mole sauce and probably the best pork chops with chimichurri sauce I've ever had! Chilly Willies has been a family run and operated Mexican restaurant on Main Street in Boonton, New Jersey since longer than I can remember. Boonton is a charming little town and Chilly Willies is a charming cozy restaurant, as well. The laid back, don't rush atmosphere makes this restaurant a great place at the end of a work day. They have chips and salsa to begin your meal which are fresh and have a snap. I ordered the Queso Flameado con Chorizo ($23.95). The meal consisted of Chorizo sausage sauteed in onions, peppers, mushrooms, garlic, cheese, served with rice, sour cream, tortillas and pico de gallo saIad. love the chorizo sausage. On the Main Street of Boonton is this cute little restaurant. The ambiance was quiet when we first walked in and very welcoming. The service was excellent very attentive and loving. As the next group of people walked in they were greeted and orders remembered. Great to customers who return often. The food was delicious and plates plentiful. I was really excited to try Chili Willie's because of all of the awards on the windows but I was not impressed. The decor was cute and the service was great but that's where the positives end. We started out with some queso and were so disappointed to be served a plastic cup with cheese sauce. This was not fresh queso made with real cheese - this was the type of queso you get at a fast food restaurant. My daughter and I each got a combo. Mine had a tamal with a beef enchilada and my daughter got a tamal with a beef burrito. The tamal was crumbly and flavorless with an odd after taste. The enchilada and burrito were fine but they were made with ground beef that I could have made at home with a seasoning packet. The rice and beans were bland. It's been almost ten years since my last visit to Chili Willie's and I refuse to allow another ten pass before my next visit. My daughter and her boyfriend come here quite often and she wanted to eat here before heading back down to Virginia. Any place that's BYOB is always a plus in my book sine I never have to be disappointed in the beer selections. The place was packed when we got there, but a table opened up right away for us. We started with their chips and salsa...I have no willpower when they are dropped on the table. For food, three of us had the Cowboy Burrito, one had the Chili Willie Burrito Supreme and my wife had the Steak Florentine. The burritos were amazing and for normal people they are easily two meals...however my daughter and her boyfriend are in ridiculous shape and always hungry...they hammered theirs. My wife didn't love her meal, but really it was because she was disappointed she didn't choose a burrito or fajitas. The owners and wait staff here are absolutely amazing and I can see why every other person in the place was a regular and known to the owner. Went there with my mom for dinner. We don't eat dark meat chicken, but it was not specified on the menu that that's what they use by default. So when my burrito came, I couldn't eat it. My mom just dealt with her meal, although she kept spitting out pieces. I tried to send my burrito back. Our waitress was very nice and apologetic, but she brought over an older lady was very firm with me that if I wanted white meat I should have asked for it, and that they would still be charging us for it. We don't argue with staff so we didn't say anything. But still, very disappointed with having to pay $16 for something that was inedible to me. Even the new burrito, with beef, wasn't enjoyable. Disappointed -- diners should be advised about this somehow, within the menu. Lesson learned -- we will now be asking at every location and assume that they'll always use dark meat. **update** gave the leftovers to my dad who's mexican and enjoys dark meat. He said there wasn't a trace of seasoning on the meat, and that he would have asked the lady to try it herself. read more

Been to Chili Willie's many times over the years. The staff is wonderful. The atmosphere is cozy and makes you feel like you are in Mexico. The place is always busy, but we never seem to have a wait. It is a BYOB in case you are wondering. The chips and salsa are excellent and the food is great. Never had a bad meal there. It is located in the middle of town so parking can be a little challenging during peak season, but finding parking is rarely a problem. The food here is absolutely delicious! This quaint little piece of Mexico has been in business for many years, certainly more than 10. Appears to be a family run restaurant. The menu is filled to the brim with your all of your favs and standard fare along with handfuls more dishes I couldn't even pronounce. They are more than happy it seems to adjust their menu for those of us that are picky eaters! The prices are extremely reasonable up and down the menu. The restaurant is fairly small and has about a dozen tables or so, at times it can feel a little tight . The ambience is really nice full of tchotchke and colorful lighting that will keep you transfixed during your meal. The owners and staff are extremely friendly and attentive. Parking leaves much to be desired.... Looking forward to going there tonight for one of my favorite dishes. Enjoy! read more

They probably can not accommodate more than a party of six because the restaurant is small but that's expected with good homemade recipes. The best hidden gem Mexican/Tex Mex in town. We have a few other Mexican places in Boonton that are excellent but there's just something about Chili Willie's. I've been coming here for years. The food is homemade and so flavorful. You can taste the love! The owners and staff are super sweet. They make you feel so welcome. The restaurant is tiny, but I like that...feels cozy and homey. Just be prepared to wait outside on a Friday or Saturday evening (not much room to wait inside). But they do takeout so you can enjoy the deliciousness at home. I've had tacos, burritos, enchiladas, tamale, guacamole, chicken platters, steak platters...all wonderful. I have not tried the bbq but I hear it's amazing. Don't forget dessert!!! Returned to this favorite spot with the wife after a 20 year hiatus. It was a regular spot for us and the kids. All is now right with the world. I tried ordering 3 shrimp tacos, no rice or beans but they refused to change the place or even attempt to accommodate my request & charge me more $ if need be - I would have been fine with that. When we went to pay, we put 2 cards in to spit the tab as there there was 4 of us (2 couples). They refused to do that. This is a great little (and I mean little I would get here before 6pm on a Saturday) place in downtown Boonton. We were served with big smiles from the owners and treated like welcomed guests. The salsa was delicious and so was the fresh guacamole. My husband ordered the cowboy burrito (the size of a small child! And they apparently have a bigger one!!) and I had fresh spinach quesadillas. There's absolutely no place like Chili Willie's. Jose and Jackie treat every customer like family, and it more than shows. The food is spectacular. Every time we dine there, no matter what we get, the food it fresh, delicious and has that homemade feel. CW is great with allergies. As a celiac I've never had an issue with cross contamination or gluten, as they take it very seriously. As someone who hates mushrooms, I'm thrilled I can get fajitas without those too. I love Mexican food! This place has charm and presentation is great and staff is excellent. I will not go back because there was no flavor to everyone food we were party of 6. The guacamole def came out of a container no tomato, onions, salt or lime it was def not fresh. I had to add salt lime and there delicious red salsa. Our rice def no salt I mean nothing, beans also. My fish taco was good but my husband dinner he hated and this man loves Mexican. My four teenagers who grew up eating authentic said there was no flavor. It's been difficult for my dining companion and me to find a good Mexican restaurant in northern New Jersey. Thankfully, family-owned and operated Chili Willie's offers terrific Mexican cuisine and Kansas City-style barbecue in the revitalized Main Street corridor of Boonton just off I-287. The intimate, cozy, and casual BYOB restaurant has a small dining room with about 30 seats and personalized, thoughtful service that makes you feel like you've stopped by the owners' home for a meal. In fact, husband Jose does all the cooking and manages the back of the house; wife Jackie makes sure the front of the house is running smoothly and often serves double duty as hostess and waitress. The food is excellent and the portions are generous. The complimentary chips served with smoky, spicy salsa set the mood for the remainder of the meal. My favorite dish is pork chop durango-style ($20), comprised of two big, juicy freshly-grilled pork chops covered in garlic, cilantro, and olive oil, and served with rice and beans. It's phenomenal, but not recommended for vampires or those expecting a romantic end to the evening. I also recommend the soft shell tacos barbacao ($16), made with slow-cooked chicken or pork covered in Kansas City-style thick tomato-based barbecue sauce served with rice and beans, and the chicken or steak fajitas ($18), served on a sizzling platter with rice and beans and a small salad. Only one dish I've tried -- the chorizo fajitas -- has missed the mark for dinner, although the leftovers wound up as a key element of a very tasty Spanish omelette I made the next morning. My dining companion is a big fan of the fish tacos and the chicken breast Florentino ($21), comprised of chicken breast, sauteed with peppers, onions, mushrooms, and fresh garlic, topped with FRESH (read, uncooked) spinach and served with rice and beans. Chillie Willies is a small treasure tucked away in the quaint town of Boonton that has many interesting stores. It should probably be bigger, but that may ruin the cozy feel you get when you eat there now. Food is fresh southwest and service with a friendly smile. Our first experience was outstanding and the food is reasonably priced. Tortillas are colored red and green; becareful if you have allergies. Rice is deepest orange color I have ever seen too. We were very fortunate to get one of the last tables available; call ahead is advised. BYOB. The only down side was foam take home containers bring your own to avoid the need. read more

We went here because the place we usually go is closed for a few weeks. The employees are very friendly and service was good but the food was nothing special. It wasn't like the other places I've gone for Mexican food. I got the fajita. The peppers and onions were huge chunks. You gat a lot of rice with some beans. They should cut peppers and onions a lot smaller. They didn't give us chip with the order and the salsa saw just small pieces of onions peppers and corn and no sauce.
