My wife and I have long loved the Mi Vida location at the Wharf, and this new location largely captures the same magic. The food is great, like at the other Mi Vidas. We arrived a bit early for the dinner rush but even still, we had to sit at the bar since we didn't have a reservation. Despite this, we had a fantastic time. The bartender was very attentive and happy to serve, and he was quick in getting us our drinks and taking our orders. We got to watch him and the other bartenders at work which was a fun experience! The entire restaurant was gorgeous; the interior was well decorated and fit the vibe of an upscale, authentic, Latin-cushion restaurant. Fantastic restaurant week experience!! The inside is nice and spacious, aesthetically modern/interesting layout/decor. Worth the price of $40 per person for the amount of dinner courses offered. We left stuffed!! Guac was super fresh and loved their corn tortillas. Queso fundido, carne asada, and salmon with sweet potato purée were my absolute favorites. Churros at the end came with yummy dipping sauces and we were so happy with the timing of the courses as well. Our server was very nice esp when we had let her know our parking time (which is tough to find on the street in Penn Quarter) was almost up, she made sure to drop the check off quickly. We were recommended this place by my boyfriend's family. I'm usually a bit hesitant, as I'm a huge foodie who appreciates great food and a nice ambiance. I was pleasantly surprised by the flavor combinations offered at this restaurant. We came very hungry, so immediately ordered the guacamole. It was creamy and perfectly balanced. Our server recommended the appetizer with the duck, warning us of its heat. We took his advice but ordered it anyway. He wasn't lying, but the duck was so moist and tender that we weren't bothered by the heat. Well, maybe only a little bit. I opted for the cod as my main, although I was hesitant because I wasn't sure how it would come prepared. It was cooked to perfection, with a slightly crisp crust on the bottom. The acidity of the tomatoes complemented it so well, I savored every bite. Despite being full, we were swayed by the churros. After all, we have a second stomach just for dessert. The churros were covered in cinnamon sugar and paired very well with the raspberry and slightly bitter chocolate sauce. The service overall was very good. Our server was helpful and nice and the food came out relatively quickly, despite the restaurant filling up throughout our meal. The place was nicely decorated, almost transporting you into Disney's somewhat recent film Coco, and the music fit the vibe perfectly. I'm excited to be back the next time I'm in DC. read more

One of my favorite places at the wharf! The upstairs seating area has an incredible view of the wharf and the sunset if you're lucky. The food is a bit on the pricey side but 100% worth the flavor. This is easily one of the most authentic places I've been too and it never disappoints. The servers are also super friendly. Definitely recommend getting a reservation if you can. read more

Ok, I confess I'm addicted to Mi Vida's fish tacos. It started innocently. A friend suggested we go there for lunch. I ordered the tacos. They came. I took a bite - soft, fresh corn taco, crusty, non-gready morsels of fish (cod) that were flaky inside, and an avocado lime sauce that added a piquant touch. What's to dislike? Let me add that they are curiously filling. After eating the 3 tacos that came in the order, I was stuffed, and I didn't even have rice. Fast forward 1 week, and I'm ordering the tacos 3 or 4 times a week. Friends staged an intervention, and I tried to stop. Even tried tacos from other places. No use. It was my first time visiting Mi Vida restaurant early in the evening. The restaurant is decorated beautifully with an upper scale ambiance. The service is excellent because every patron is welcomed as soon as they enter the restaurant. It happened to be happy hour. Based on a recommendation from the bar tender, I tried a fabulous red wine and ordered the nachos and rolled tacos. Let me say that I just got too excited because that was enough food for three people! The presentation was great. The taste was excellent. That was close to the best Mexican food I've had, and I'm a critic when it comes to Mexican food. For the happy hour prices, what more can you ask for. Happy hour last night (Wednesday) was top tier. I had a group of 5 and we sat at a table and were told happy hour was until 6pm only at the bar and you were not allowed to order at the bar and bring it back to the table even though the bar was packed to standing room only. 3 of us went to the bar and the other two stayed at the table. We ordered the Ponche de Lola pitcher and it was pretty good. I also ordered a glass of the Viña Temprana, Garnacha- smooth finish, softer on the tannins and medium bodied. Afterwards, we went back to the table and I ordered the carnitas, side of plantains, and crab empanadas. The food was perfectly seasoned, excellent textures and came out hot on hot plates. Everyone raved about their orders, most of us sampling different items from the menu. The service was prompt and respectful. We had a great time and talked about going back tomorrow. The ambiance had lower lighting, making it a solid vibe for a date spot or a hang out spot with friends. The energy could flow any way. The restrooms were a little weird in how the stalls were set up and too dim of lighting in there, but it was clean.
