I had a great experience with Crystal. I've seen her twice now. The first was for an updo for an event and the second was for a haircut/color. I loved the work she did and how she listened to what I wanted, most especially what I didn't want. I was a bit terrified about the updo thing because it's a style I don't think I can pull off well. Crystal addressed my concerns and gave me a style I was comfortable with, and lasted literally all day. I had so many hairpins weaved in my hair that at first thought I had taken the entire stock of Sally's Beauty Supply. During our second meeting which was just a week later, I finally decided to get my hair rejuvenated, a.k.a cut and colored. I'm very particular about how I like my hair and she nailed both aspects. My man is an electro swing producer/DJ and he does a lot of vintage-themed events. I unfortunately do not know how to do my hair and makeup for these events (let alone any event, let's be honest) so I recently decided to treat myself for one of them. I found Mia Belleza through Yelp, it was close to where he lives, and they had a special - blowout and makeup for $80. Sign me up! Mia Belleza is an adorable, family-owned salon in Downtown Pomona, near Western University. Crystal, my makeup artist, told me that it used to be a jewelry store back in the day, hence the huge display windows. I love the historic neighborhood and how pretty and clean the salon is. Maria and Crystal are a mother/daughter team who have worked together for many years, and I guess there is another sister at the salon who does makeup. Maria did my hair and gave me an incredible, 1920's-inspired updo. I loved that she charged a blowout price for an updo, and it stayed ALL night without moving. She even offered to go and feed the meter for me, when I realized I only had an hour of free parking. Crystal did my makeup, and even though she went a little darker than I wanted, it was an awesome, glamorous, dramatic look that stayed put the whole night. She even did the era-appropriate Cupid's bow lips. She was super sweet and easy to talk to, also. I loved working with these ladies and they gave me one of my favorite looks I've ever done... I feel like I'm going to cry. When Crystal initially cut my hair, I was thrilled. I wanted my long hair re-layered and the split ends gone. She cut my hair. She was in a hurry because another girl decided she wanted a $200 brazilian blowout at the last second, which is considerably more expensive than a haircut, but she said she had 15 years of experience so I wasn't too worried. Then Maria styled my hair. It looked absolutely gorgeous curled. The thing about curls is, they hide asymmetrical and jagged hair cuts. It lasted for days. She didn't use a heat protectant, and my hair smelled burned even after I washed it, but hey, it looked amazing and lasted 3 days, even after I painted a house for Habitat for Humanity and went out at night. I was still very happy. Finally I washed my hair. I noticed on one side, the very bottom was about 1/2 inch longer than the other side. I thought it was the way I was parting my hair and tried a lot of things, but no, it was longer. I have some experience cutting hair, so I beveled the bottom to match the other side. I was still relatively happy. Then, I noticed ALL OF THE LAYERS were 1/2 in to 1/4 in off, AND in different places. I have no idea how this happened. Air drying it led to the layers flipping every which way, which is NOT supposed to happen with a good haircut. My hair usually air dries beautifully, and it looked awful. So, I tried straightening it. ALL OF THE LAYERS are off. The front, which Maria cut, look semi decent. Even if they aren't perfect (she cut up on one side and down on the other, guaranteeing different edges), they're the same length. I don't know what to do. I have a ton of school work to do and don't have time to take care of it right now. I don't want to spend another $50 on a haircut somewhere else, and I'm scared to ask her to fix it, because I'm worried she'll make it shorter AND just as asymmetrical and jagged at the bottom. I don't want to loose anymore length, and I don't want to have to curl my hair every day just to hide how bad the haircut is. I also feel really bad. I hate giving bad reviews, especially with all the good ones, and I understand that a Brazilian is much more lucrative. I wish she'd just asked me to come back later or something, even though I had made an appointment days ahead of time, instead of rushing my hair and making it look really weird. I suppose I just have to wait for it to grow, and be really sad and frustrated with it in the meantime. I hate uncertain haircuts. read more

Hours - I went on a Saturday afternoon so it wasn't crowded. Location - Not far from 2nd/Gary intersection. Stylists - There were only 2 working but both seemed friendly enough Services - This is a hair salon with makeup services. If you need nails and/or brow shaping, you will have to go elsewhere. Personal Experience - As of now, I am quite happy with my hair. I wasn't sure of what I wanted so I showed Maria some photos and explained what I wanted to be able to do with my hair. Maria was communicative, sensitive to my desires and checked with me as she progressed through the cut. She proposed cutting 4 inches because it'd been so long since my last cut but I declined, and she respected my wish to sacrifice as little of my length as possible. Yikes! Second and final time coming here. First time the older women seemed serious and not very talkative, clearly lacks customer service. Second time, 6-7 months later i get the same old lady. She looked mad, again almost as if she rather be doing literally anything else, but cutting my hair. Lol weird because that's her job. I definitely don't recommend this spot at all. It seems as though they remain in business through loyal customers that have been going there since they started, therefore they could give two shits about new customers approval. Both times she's told me she didn't have time to blow dry my hair, which I didn't think was a big deal, but this time when I got home I dried, and straighten my own hair only to find how uneven she had left it. Something we could have avoided had she finished her job. If she didn't have time to do it all she could have simply asked me to come back at a later time, or make an appointment for a different day, instead she saw it as "easy" "fast" money. Mia Belleza is a total gem. I came in for a quick consultation the day before, literally took two minutes and came the next day to meet with Crystal. As I waited in the chair to start I got to meet another customer who had just finished her appointment who asked if it was my first time there. I let her know that it was and she reassured me that I would love it and that they had been taking care of her hair since she was just nine years old, a total of fourteen years. I knew that if they could have loyal customers for that long that they were doing something right. Now I came in with hair on the verge of ridiculous! It was way overdo for a proper cut and I had a crazy amount of dark roots showing on two toned blonde hair. Crystal took immediate charge and the crazy process of salvaging my hair! I asked for it to be evened out and lightened some more with long layers and crescent moon bangs. I have a ton of hair and the bleaching process was long and tiring but Crystal was attentive, patient and communicative throughout the entire process and went above and beyond my expectations. Every morning when I wake up, I look like a frazzled lioness. My hair was untamed, curly and wavy in certain areas (very unattractive), and came with the usual split ends. I needed a haircut, pronto. My usual gal is too far, and this local place on 2nd street has some rave reviews; thought I might wander in. There's a small parking lot on the right hand side immediately as you turn onto 2nd, so no worries with parking! I was actually a little nervous because I didn't know how parking would be on that tiny street. Nonetheless, Crystal greeted me immediately upon entering and kindly asked what she could help me out with. I didn't give her much direction at all, simply said, I want to keep my hair long, have layers, and I -think- I want bangs. 1 hour later, my hair was shampooed & conditioned, cut, layered, blow dried, & curled for a stylish-wave. They honored the Yelp check-in deal, which is awesome! Total came out to be 36, but next time it will be 40 :). This will all usually cost me a lot more at mediocre places. I asked for her to thin it out, and she pretty much gave me a reason why she doesn't like to, which in my mind means she doesn't know how to. Thinning with those scissors that have two different blades? I can do that myself, thanks. I want my hair thinned out at the mid section. Don't bring someone else to your station to convince me otherwise. I know my hair, and I do it daily, not you.
