I reached out to Ami James for a tattoo. He told me there was a wait to give him some dates. So I did so, he provided me a date of June 6th. So I asked for a time. He messaged back that he would contact me with a time. He never reached back out. Any time I messaged him, it always took a week or so for him to respond. He has been the most unprofessional person I have ever dealt with. He strung me along for over a month. I could've already had my tattoo done. First I want to thank the man at the front for being understanding and one of a kind. He has an awesome vibe and explained to the artist what I was looking to do and the reason for the tattoo, he even came to check on me throughout the process. When I first entered I got the feeling that this was the place where I should get my tattoo and I had read through several reviews for this place and other tattoo shops, even though the reviews weren't great I just felt this vibe, that this was the place to receive a quality tattoo. I don't do cheap on something that's permanent. Right after I entered they received about 7 other walk in customers and 1 appointment (I call that perfect timing). Eddy was the artist who tattooed me, he's cool, calm and funny. We had great conversations, he made me feel comfortable and listened to my ideas while putting a splash of his own. My tattoo came out so well it looks fake lol. I was advised to keep the clear patch placed on my tattoo for 3-5 days and not to get it wet and I did as I was advised so when the patch was removed my tattoo looked fresh and almost completely healed. This is a really nice shop in the South Beach area. You most likely won't find any of the tv stars here from when the show was on, but you will find good artists, a clean shop, and a comfortable environment to get some work done. I was here to see a guest artist, so the setup was done outside of the shop. I came in at my appointment time, and he was getting ready for me. The shop staff was helpful and welcoming. I waited for a few minutes while he finished getting ready, and enjoyed the small lobby . area. The unique thing about this shop is that it is very famous for being on a tv show, so lots of tourists are coming in and out, taking pictures, etc. Also, people are flowing through continually to get small walk-in pieces. Everyone I met was nice to work with, and my actual tattoo experience was great. We sized it a few times until we got it perfectly placed. The work took a few hours, and the chair/room temp was comfortable. If you are in the area, and looking to get some work done, stop in and visit Love Hate. Hey There, now that we've let the ink settle. Alex and I had a great chat about life and how my partner and I were eloping in miano, a different country and how important that would be to get right as were all the way from Australia. Sooooooo I'm not sure who was looking after the front desk when My husband and I came in after having to switch days for our wedding to friday morning because of the Hurricane, but unfortunatly the lady decided to be rude to us, even though we came in as quickly as we could for my husband to work on his sleeve, (we only cancelled incase, if we knew he was meant to have a day off, then we wouldnt have and would have driven over as soon as the wedding was over, which is what we did. Saturday would have been just as great for us and Alex seemed super excited about the design, (japanese temple design Alex was super keen on). Now all you had to do was let us know that you are specifically coming in to work on friday to work on his tattoo and then we would have probably changed our booking the day of our wedding to Saturday, but instead we had attitude and crappy customer service, she didnt want to listen to a word we said. I love my tattoo, (space Kitty) its amazing work and Alex was a great guy to add to it, but now I look at it and it really upsets me, thats now a tattoo I got from a guy that I thought was a friend in town and who knew our situation and you still decided to screw us over and not even talk to us when we came in. I had a friend of mine back in Australia ask who the artist is, as she gets a tattoo in every city she visits and is due for Miami next year and I explained what happened and she was pretty shocked. I love getting work done by amazing artists, what I dont like, is being miscommunicated to and then made to feel bad when we specifically said we were getting married two days after we met you. If you had plans and if it was your day off Alex, you could have told us this and we would have moved it to saturday morning, but we werent even given that option on the phone, were told we could get our deposit back and then came in to see if we can rebook, but of course the Dungion Dragon wouldnt let us and told us we werent getting the deposit back. So just so you are aware, $100 deposit for us Aussies is $200 basically. You know I have fibromialgia, so I was also in a shit load of pain trying to sort out the situation. Was visiting South Beach with my best friend and we decided to get matching tattoos. No we were nor drunk! lol. So we stumble upon this place and just wanted to see some sample ink, but instantly felt comfortable. The lady in the front was super nice and not pushy which made us stay a while. Plus her body ink was beautiful and nicely done. We searched for tattoos and finally made our decision. She explained everything to us and not for a second did we feel pressure, or like she was selling a dream. We signed the waivers, read our rights, paid and within minutes we were getting tatted. The shop is kept clean and lighted well which makes it appealing unlike other shops in the area. We both had different artist, but they were both nice and did an awesome job. So good I came back from Michigan to get another! 8 Months ago Jimmy did the best work on my body, when I tried to go someplace else (because I lived in Michigan) I made a huge mistake. First of all, I just wanted to note that most of the negative reviews seem to be from people who have not gotten tattooed here. Why give them a crappy review if you've never even patronized the place? Anyway, rant over. I love the show and so when I went on Spring Break with some of my girls from college, I knew I wanted a tattoo at Miami Ink. CALL AHEAD because they do not take appointments, but the message on the phone is very helpful. You can only go after a certain time because they are filming during the day. None of the artists on the show will do your tattoo - I was told they only tattoo for the show. That being said, they did an INCREDIBLE job. My tattoo is absolutely gorgeous. Thanks to James for a beautiful work of art! This was my first color piece, which I was nervous about getting just right. I've had so many compliments on this tattoo - the shading on it is immaculate. I came in knowing what I wanted, but was requesting a custom piece, seeing as I can't draw. I told them what I wanted, told me to come back in like 2 hours (shop was pretty full) and so my friends and I walked around nearby Espanola Way for a little while. I came back, and my drawing was complete, and it was exactly what I wanted. The prices are pretty steep ($200 minimum) and I don't really care to share how much I spent on this beauty. But for me, it was worth it. I now have a permanent souvenir from Miami that I absolutely love, and the quality (and the experience!) was worth every penny. Oh wow, I forgot about this place. Cramped, packed, overrated. After fighting with my best friend who came down from Canada over how stupid of a decision getting a tattoo actually was, she made her decision and guess where she chose to do it? We called ahead and listened to the instructions on the phone. We ended up going on a weekday. When we got there, we looked though a million books. She wanted a dragon fly, none of the books happened to have one. They told us to wait ONE HOUR while they "sketched something up." We went to a smoothie shop next door and sat there for a bit. We came back and saw the sketch. It was two simple 1'' dragon flies. Okay, whatever, she was excited. We signed a zillion release forms and they let her see the blueprint after reducing the size. They put it on the back of her neck. "This will cost you $350" Our jaw dropped to the ground. (And this was back when $350 was not recession-based $350, because now $350 is like saying "give me $350, your arm, your leg, your mortgage payment, your car, that ring you're wearing, your dog, you're money for lunch..." Congratulations, you're getting bullied by a 45-year-old man. That's the other thing... where are all these people that come out in the show???!??! We had some kid, a man with a donkey on his neck, and some old guy. Woopdiedoo. If I wanted to get ripped of by an amateur tattoo artist, I could have gone to any of the other five million tattoo shops in SOBE. Allright, I lent her the money, because she only had $150 and paid with my credit card... OH, that probably hurt more than the tattoo itself. When It was over, I suppose they did an okay job... For two sticks and four oval "wings." Ugh. I felt so ripped off. I'm glad I finally got to rant about this. I forgot these guys were here until I saw it pop up on Foursquare. I had been wanting to get a tattoo while on vacation in Miami Beach but didn't make any solid plans. After walking around for a while I decided to do it. We walked it an I was able to get it done within the hour. I thought there would be a crazy line but it wasn't too bad. There were three guys getting finished up on their tatts and another guy ahead of me. So I told them I wanted a 4 letter word in script on the inside of my left wrist. No problem, so I waited while the artist drew the design and paid ahead of time. It cost a bit more than I've paid in Chicago but I didn't care. I was committed to doing it and because they have a reputation to maintain I knew it was worth the price. After going back and forth on the design a few times it was time to go to the chair. I really appreciated their advice and I took it. I originally wanted the word to be left to right when I look at my wrist but he said the industry standard is to have it "upside" down to the owner and left to right to others when I hold it out. I never thought about it this way and if I were to get a tattoo on my upper arm it would of course be upside down to me but normal to everyone else looking at it. And while they would have done it anyway I wanted it, I know I had it done the right way. It didn't take very long at all and hurt much less than the two tattoos I have on the back of my neck. I am disappointed I didn't get the artist's name (looking at other Yelp pictures I think it was Jose who did my wrist) or his card but he was laid back and awesome. They let my sister come sit on the couch near the chairs so we could all talk together. He also gave us some restaurant recommendations for Pubbelly and a Cuban Place on 16th. I decided to get some ink done here. Knowing I was going to Miami I picked out a design before my trip and was flexible with letting the artist do their thing as well. Now you need to go into this place with conviction and confidence. Not like some lame tourist looking through the books and drool over the fact that this place was featured on TV. I walked in with a friend who had just gotten her tattoo done at another place up the street. When you come here you do have to pay...they have a $200 minimum so you might as well make it worth their time and your $$. Most of the artists on the show take appointments now but for the most part they take walk-ins or you can walk in and request your artist and they will tell you how long you need to wait. I was pretty comfortable with going with the first available artist. After about a 40 min wait in the waiting area watching the dozens of people stream in and out taking pictures and watching some familiar faces from the TV show make their way thru the shop it was finally my turn. Morgwn Pennypacker was my artist, I gave him my design but let him know I was flexible and we worked it. I got the design (mirror image) on the tops of both feet. This guy was good and quick. To date this is the best healed tattoos I have had done, quality, clean location, workmanship and artistry. Sure you may pay a bit more but you get a quality experience. read more

Its easy to overlook on Washington Ave. as the big neon block sign above their shop says simply, "TATTOO." And it looks ALOT smaller in reality then it does on the show. I've seen people line up here in groups but the reality-tv crew only tapes them at certain times. To say that I never thought I would be in a tattoo shop would be an under statement. One of my friends wanted to gat a tattoo so he asked me to come along with him, however I did not know that the tattoo would have taken 4 hours to get done. It was surreal to be in the same tattoo shop that has been aired as a series on TLC. The shop is owned by Ami James and the shop is filled with tattoo artists ready to accommodate whether it be walk-ins and appointments. This place is located off 13th and Washington Avenue, as you could imagine parking would be a challenge, if you are lucky you could get street parking, but your best bet maybe to get a parking garage or parking lot, it tends to get fustrating looking for a park in South Beach. Because tattoos take a long time depending on what you need to get done you should have company with you in case of you need something to eat or drink, the good thing about this place is that there are food places and bars all around so you don't have to go very far. The place is very spacious and could have three to four artists working at one time, there is a comfortable setting area and for some reason what I remembered about this place is that they played some really good music. Of course depending on the size and detail of the tattoo you are getting the pricing tends to get high. They do have a huge selection to choose from in catalogues, however if you had something in mind, you could do a print and they would give you an estimate as to cost and time so you could be prepared. I personally did not get any tattoos but I saw the finish product from my friend and it looked amazing. My friend wanted a compass put in the inner part of his arm, what i could tell you is that the detail and shading from this particular artist was amazing. I did not see the finished product as it takes approximately two weeks for it to heal and for it to look how it is supposed to. I have no doubt that his tattoo would look great. I would definitely recommend using this place for your tattoos, I may get one eventually and would not have any qualms in getting it done at this place. read more

Art costs money....enough said. This was my most expensive tattoo, however, it still looks amazing! We were down in miami for the boat show three years ago. Prior to going I did the research to find out when they opened, etc. We got to the shop about an hour before they opened and we were third in line. As soon as the doors opened, they immediately started figuring out what people wanted. Almost everyone in front of us were just there to see the shop. I told them what I wanted and then took a seat while my tattoo got drawn up. The shop was clean and everything was sterile. I figured the cost of the tattoo would be atleast double what it was back home and i was right. This tattoo healed quicker than any i have had done previously. My tattoo was done on my foot and I didnt have hardly any swelling compared to what it was like after my opposite foot. I believe alot of it has to do with the experience of the artist. Was told that our simple tattoo was going to cost $300.00 for both of our tattoos, mind you, (simple and sweet tattoos), but when my wife paid for the tattoos, she was told that the total price would be 600.00!! That was 300.00 dollars each!! WTF?!!! 300.00 for less than one hour of tattooing...Each?!! That is more than what an MD gets paid an hour?! Mind you, it was a small piece, the size of a silver dollar!! Drawn up by amateurs....300.00 for less than an hour of work!! Honestly, if you want to spend 300.00 for a small size tattoo, then you are in the right place!!! But, would not go back to spend 300.00 for less than an hour of work!!! Sooo, sad, that these amateurs would charge this much for a tattoo, but yet, tattooist who have been doing great work and for many years, would charge less than this!! This shop is top notch. I had a specific design in mind for a portrait tattoo. I emailed the shop and Indira was very quick to respond. She took my information regarding the piece I wanted as well as photos and made a recommendation for which artist would be best. I put down my deposit and made my appointment for approximately 8 weeks later. It was this long long only because I was flying into Miami specifically for this tattoo. She provided artist Marcel's phone number so he and I could communicate about the design prior to my arrival. Once I arrived at the shop I was greated immediately and made to feel welcome. Everyone at the shop was incredibly friendly and the entire experience was fantastic. We were offered colada and shared this with the staff amidst great conversation and humor during my 7 hours in the chair.. Went on a morning walk and was excited to find this shop so close to my hotel. I'm a huge fan of sweet phenomenal Kat Von D and the show Miami Ink. This is owned by the cool talented artists Ami James & handsome Chris Nunez. I luv Darren and Yoji too. Everyone in the shop were friendly and easy to talk with. I was just excited as hell to know I was fortunate to be in South Beach amongst so much talent and in this shop. When you walk in to the left is the Love Hate merchandize. To the right is seating area with a heap of albums to look through. Then just beyond the counter is the parlor where artist and client collide in a beautiful lifelong bonding of artwork. The actual tattooing area takes place. From the street there's a Love Hate chopper on display in the window. I helped myself to a bunch of selfies and a business card. Woo! My GF bought us tickets to Miami for my 40th birthday. I was in the market for another tattoo and thought I might as well stop in at Miami Ink to get my second Buddhist themed tattoo around my wrist. My first tattoo was done in Raleigh at Blue Flame and turned out great (a Buddhist mantra wrapped around my wrist). I wanted my second tattoo to go above the mantra. I decided on a string of prayer beads and brought in a design with brown and gold Buddhist beads. I wanted the beads to have a 3 dimensional look, they didn't necessarily have to be uniform, and they should have good shading and highlight to make them look somewhat realistic. It was something that should have taken 1.5 hours max based on the work I've already had done and the tattoo artists I've watched do work for the past several years. After talking to Yoji and getting a quote of about 250.00. I agreed and came in the next day. When I arrived the next day and reminded Yoji about the tattoo he said that they could do if for $750.00. To which I told Yoji, that I wasn't planning on a half sleeve, just a string of beads around my wrist and we already agreed on a price. So he goes in the back and comes out and explains that what I wanted wasn't exactly what we discussed the day before. It actually was exactly what we had discussed the day before. I knew at that point I should have listened to my gut and walked out but I was in Miami, it was my birthday, and I wanted the experience. Well, the experience I got was about 40 minutes worth of blotchy red, pea shaped, heavily outlined circles wrapped around my wrist. I'm actually now considering seeing a doctor/dermatologist to figure out why the area under the tattoo has recently started to swell and remains tender and irritated so long after the tattoo. My recommendation is, if you get a bad vibe and you feel like you're being taken, walk out. I'm sure there are some incredible artists there who are professional and do quality work. However, I'll never go back and I'll never recommend this artist or this shop to anyone interested in getting quality work done at a reasonable price. The artist currently working on my sleeve (20+ year veteran) is doing a kick @$$ job AND doing it for about what they wanted to charge me for the 40 minute hack job at Miami Ink. read more

I cannot comment on the tattoo part of the shop since I only went into the little shop area of the business. I had to walk in just because we used to watch this place on the tv show Miami Ink on TLC ages ago. Tattoo culture fascinates me even though I don't actually have skin art of my own. The little store had a wide array of shirt designs to choose from but they were a bit pricey for a t-shirt. The business owner didn't even greet us when we came in the shop nor did he say anything when we left. It would have been nice to receive some sort of welcome. I took some pictures of the inside and outside of the shop and headed off for another adventure. read more

overall i had a great experience. They worked with my budget for the design i asked for and started on me right away. Tattoo is healing nicely with the ointment i purchased from them. Just wish the stations were a little more private. read more

Me and 4 of my friends walked in, excited to get a tattoo. First of all the minimum for a tattoo is highly over priced. Due to the poor ratings on yelp, and was gunna spend atleast 150, i asked the lady a the front desk if they do good solid tattoos. Instead of being professional, she gave us a huge attitude and mad fun of us. We decided to leave at that point due to her attitude and rude comments and they ended up losing 5 customers. We went to a place down the street after that called CIRCUS TATTOO and they were AMAZING. They did great tattoos, the minimum was 50$ cheaper, the people who worked there were so welcoming and had a great vibe. DO NOT GO HERE. Check out circus tattoo instead. read more

Got a small tattoo here on a whim by Jimmy. He is very talented, patient and extremely nice. He hand drew my tattoo and we customized it together. He also hand drew my friends' initial tattoos and they were all beautifully done. read more
