I needed my US Passport renewed and Miami Passport Agency is the closest to me to get same day renewal. I highly recommend filling out the paperwork online and making an appointment to make your experience much smoother. Once my first thing in the morning appointment time came a group of us were let in the appointment side. They also take walk ins, through a different side of the building. However if you have an appointment you go to the front of the line for security screening and get to the processing windows first. Security screening (think airport screening) was quick and I was off to the processing window. They reviewed my paperwork and I was told it usually takes about 2 hours to be processed. The procedure for picking up my renewed passport was explained and they also told me a text message would be sent when it was ready. After exploring Miami a little bit I was texted and I got my new passport. Very efficient process and the employees were great. read more

Miami Passport Agency is great for in person passport renewals, new passports or any last minute passport needs. YOU MUST HAVE AN APPT!!! No walk-ins. Appointments only. They are located in the Omni Center on the 4th floor in Suite 400. You can park across the street at the Trinity Episcopal Cathedral for $15, cash or Zelle only. It's legit. Somebody told us about it. The park meet at Omni Center building is pricey at $15 for the first 60 minutes, eight dollars for each additional minute and $50 maximum daily rate. We had plans to travel to the Bahamas on Thanksgiving day. On Monday night, we realized we didn't have passports for the kids!!! No, seriously. Our two oldest have expired passports our youngest never got one. Oh man!!! This slipped our mind as we travel to Bahamas often and just forgot that you need a passport for travel there. We jumped on the computer and went to the passport website. Very secured site as they ask for email and phone verifications. Good for us! They literally had one appt open at 9:30am on Tuesday morning, the next day. We snagged the appt and got all paperwork together, completed necessary forms and gathered proof of documentations. Woke the kids up the next day at 6:30am and went to Walgreens to get passport photos at 7am. Walgreens hustled and got us 3 passport photos within 15 minutes. $16.99 for each passport photo. Amazing! Worth every penny. Drove to Miami in the morning rush hour, funnnnn! Made it there by 9am for our 9:30am appt. Found out they have a passport photo service on the first floor. They charge more at $24 per passport photo. It's worth it for the convenience being in same building as Miami Passport Agency and a quick solution. There's also World's Smallest Café on first floor across from passport photo service. Coffee, tea, empanadas, small pizzas and pastries. Went to 4th floor for Miami Passport Agency. Lots of security. They check your printed confirmation of appt. Then they check your documents before you go through the security check. Once inside, it's massive. Quite efficient and smooth actually. You wait in line for them to check all actual documentation, they input into computer and give you a number. You sit and wait for them to call your number and which window to approach. Once we got called, they get everything together, confirm all information, check that both parents are present for kid's passports, confirm kids match passport requests, double and triple check everything and then you pay all the fees (application, expedited fee, etc). They print a receipt and let you know you can return the same day between 12-2pm to pick up your passports. My return time was 1pm. They emphasized that you must be here before 2pm or you don't get in!!! We arrived at 9am and everything went smoothly. We left around 10:30am. I came back at 12:30pm for passport pick up. The first line before security was super long, about 30-40 people deep. Waiting to get through security. Once you get through security, the room I was in before was PACKED!!! Everyone that came back to pick up their passports. Almost every other chair was full and still more people coming in. Although my pick up time was estimated for 1pm, they didn't call me until 1:45pm. Keep in mind, if they did call your name and you weren't there, they will repeat your name. Got the passports!!! Yayyyyyy!!! So freaking happy. All in all, I have to say Miami Passport Agency was incredibly efficient and such a smooth process. Of course it was a waiting game. Entire experience was outstanding. I had an appointment at 9:00 am but arrived around 7:15. The process to verify my appointment and go thru security took only about twenty minutes My number was called at 8:00 to meet with an agent and have my application processed. I left the facility at 8:15 and received a text at noon to advise that my passport was ready for me to pick up. Upon returning to the Agency I did not have to wait. The Miami Passport Agency is One of the worst among all government agencies . The management and the security officers are so rude , arrogant and disrespectful to people . I just missed my father's funeral because they purposely held my passport for an extra hour and half just because i asked them a couple of times if my passport was ready the envelope is showing that passport was in their hand at exactly 1pm and handed to me at 2:30 pm. am writing to formally file a complaint regarding the unacceptable handling and communication surrounding my passport renewal. I submitted my renewal application on July 17, 2025, and was informed that my passport would be available for pickup by Monday, July 21, 2025. As of today, July 22, 2025, I have not received any updates, calls, emails, or letters indicating the status of my application or explaining the delay. I have called the National Passport Information Center multiple times and have received no helpful information or resolution. This lack of communication is deeply frustrating, especially given the urgency of my travel. I am scheduled to fly internationally on July 23, 2025, to Colombia to be with my ill father. This trip is not for leisure--it is a humanitarian emergency, and I cannot afford to miss this flight. The emotional stress of this situation is now compounded by the failure of the agency to provide timely updates or fulfill the promised timeline. BEWARE COMING IF YOU HAVE A DISABILITY. I had a 7 am appointment and was met with a long line at the door. When one of the officers, Ludwig arrived, I asked if there would be somewhere to sit as I have a recognized disability. He shouted at me to get back in line. I tried to explain that I only wanted to know if there would be seating because, again, I am disabled. He flat out told me that if I can't stand in line with everyone else then I wasn't getting in. He said it while staring straight ahead as if I wasn't even a human being. I stood there, stunned and humiliated in front of my child, but still trying to get some sort of answer. After all, I didn't ask to be disabled and we're all there for emergency passports. At this point, he turned his back on me and ignored me. He made sure to come stand directly in front of me to make it clear I was dismissed. Finally, I told him that there was no need to treat people like this and that I hope he felt good about himself and his behavior. At this point he got in my face and demanded I step to the side. I tried again to be reasonable and said I'm only asking a yes or no question about disability access. Ludwig told me to shut up and that he would talk and I would listen. He said that I would be denied access to the passport facility if I continued to display this attitude. He then shouted "do you understand" RIGHT IN MY FACE like he was a drill sergeant. I said that I guessed I had no choice and went back to the line. In the 45 minutes I had to stand (sometimes held up by my husband), I managed to aggravate my condition and require additional medication. I experienced teeth gritting pain for 2 days snd had difficulty walking short distances, something I ordinarily did. The passport processing agent Sarah was just rude as well. When I got to the window and asked what did she need from me she outright scoffed and then chuckled to herself. I told her I didn't understand what was funny and could she tell me. She just stared at me like she was already ready for me to move on. I asked her again and told her that I like to laugh too and she rolled her eyes. So I just slid the application to her and waited for her to ask for each item. She had a tone the entire time like I was an idiot right out the gate. She demanded items like she'd already asked for them before and had the audacity to not have accurate information pertaining to the requirements for obtaining a passport. Even though my son is 17 she required both parents submit their info. She also directly contradicted website info and when I told her that the website said something else, she just moved on. This was one of the most unpleasant, unprofessional experiences in my life. I've formally filed a complaint for discrimination as advised on the ADA site and am considering a lawyer. I've also reached out to the Department of State. I don't want anyone else to be discriminated against. My kid had to get a passport fairly quickly as their husband was in the UK and took ill. We went online and filled out all the paperwork that you have to do in advance, and then had to choose which location we would go into in person. This one in Miami was the closest to where we live and still a 3 1/2 hour drive. I booked the earliest time available which apparently didn't make a lot of difference. They handle everyone in the morning. You show up and show them all your paperwork processed inside through the metal detector. You wait till they call you to a window and they go over all the paperwork, and take your payment. You then have to come back at 1 PM to pick up the passport. Basically you get processed in one line in the morning through security and everything and then when you come back in the afternoon, only the person receiving their passports can go back inside. Everyone is seated and they call you in groups and you show your receipt to receive your passport and other paperwork back. it all happens pretty quickly and most people receiving their passports the same day. The hardest part was that you have to have your airplane ticket to the country you're going to in advance. There was a lot of security, which is expected for a government building. Everyone was extremely friendly and helpful and so long as you had your paperwork in order you got processed quickly efficiently. This is not an easy process for anyone to have to do, but hopefully you won't need one in an emergency and can go through the standard process. read more

I had a work trip to Canada coming up and I needed a passport ASAP. I was able to make an appointment over the phone. As long as your bring ALL the required documents, print outs, passport application (or whatever documents you were told to bring for a renewal) everything should go smoothly! It is an all day process tho. Waiting to turn it in and waiting for you to receive it took me from 8am-4pm but totally worth it! Passport same day! We've been waiting for our kids' passport renewal for 13 weeks now. We did everything possible to get their passports: 1. Upgrade passport to expedited on 5/9/2023. 2. Contacted Marco Rubio's office for an appointment on 5/23/2023. I called yesterday for status. They said they sent in the request for an appointment. Expect response in 6 weeks!!! 3. Contacted congresswoman Kat Cammack for the status of the passports. We can't even count how much time we spent dialing the 877 number with transfers to the help desk and also duty officer. No appointments available. At one point, the passports were approved on May 30th and two agent (877) we spoke to told us my kid's passports were on book print but for some unknown reason the status went back to in process the next day. At this point I just want to know why this happened and how much longer we have to wait for the passports MIAMI? Called on Sunday for an appointment, was able to get one for the following Tuesday. They had a few options, I chose the first one at 7am. Arrived at at 5:37am and was third in line, the office opens at 7am. By 6:30am the line was wrapping around the corner of the building. You wait outside in a covered area in the parking garage. Parking is $15 for the first one inside the Omni garage and $8 for each hour(even a couple of minutes) after that. I was out by 7:09am, paid $23. There is street parking going for about $3.30 an hour, found out from others in line. If you leave the garage, you will be charged all over again. Just park in the street, much cheaper and area was fine even early in the morning. A security guy cane around 6:55am, went through the line to make sure we had appointment confirmations. Let us in at 6:58am, we went up the elevator to the 4th floor. Once there, there's two agents checking you have the required documents, they sign the top of your application and you go straight to the windows. Took less than 10 mins as the third person in line. When providing proof of travel that will determine how soon you get your passport. I was able to get it same day, pick up is from 12pm-2pm. For pick up, people lined up by 11:30am there was a line of about 20 people, but picking up actually goes by name, they call you once the office in DC has cleared your background check and the Miami office then prints your passport. I waited about 20 mins and was called with a group of about 15 people, they hand you your passport, tell you to sit and check for accuracy, if its accurate you're free to go, if it needs fixing you ho back yo the window so they can fix it Passport is $130, expedited fee is $60. They take credit card/debit card/apple pay and exact cash for sure, I believe check or money order as well, not completely sure because I paid with apple pay. If you're within 14 days of international travel and need your passport fast, this is your best shot. I had a cruise out of Port Canaveral on a Friday afternoon. I didn't notice until Wednesday afternoon that my passport was expired by 1.5 years and I didn't have an official copy of birth certificate. I have a marriage license, SS card, and two state IDs but it wasn't enough to board the cruise. I had an appointment for 7 a.m. on the Friday. I was in line at 6 a.m. and I was the 2nd person. A security guard came out at 6:40 and started checking appointment confirmations. Everyone without an appointment was turned away. We went upstairs to the area and waited in a line. Then another line to check our documents and go through security. The. I was directed to a window. I walked out at 7:18 (you cannot wait in the passport area). I was directed to watch my phone for a text, otherwise I should come back at noon for pickup. A security guard told me to get in line at 11:20. I was back at 10 and once again, I was not the first person in that pickup line. I ended up getting a text at 11:42 and had my passport in hand by 11:48. Then I made a very nerve racking and precise drive to Port Canaveral and had exactly 2.5 minutes to spare before they locked the gangway. If you need this place, then make sure you have everything printed and ready and pack your patience. Some people had been there 3 days in a row hoping for pickup. I lived outside of 100 miles radius so they basically promised it to me. It stinks to be in that position but they can make it happen! read more

What I don't understand is why the US DEPARTMENT OF STATE KEEPS RESPONDING TO NEGATIVE REVIEWS WITH the same response, "WE RECOMMEND YOU APPLY FOR A PASSPORT 6 MONTHS BEFORE TRAVEL", but the passport website/travel.state.gov does not state this information or "advice" to allow consumers to make a more educated decision on travel plans and passport expedited services. The information on the website, is false, completely misleading and creating all these issues that could be avoided if they were just completely transparent about the process. It is heart breaking to read so many people loosing thousands of dollars on booked travel plans, lost memories and false hope in the financial climate we are currently dealing with in this country. I am in the same boat, applied in person at the USPS for our sons passports 3/22 after it took a month to get an initial appointment at USPS in our area (booked2/22), with plans to leave 6/24, we called our local congressman, we submitted a form with Marco Rubio, and have spent countless hours on the phone trying it get an appointment, following all the guidelines outlined on the website with absolutely no luck. On 6/7 we called to give our card info to have it expedited and were assured we would get it in time(false). Called two weeks before to get an appointment and have spent everyday on the phone since then to get the appointment and the only ones available were in Hawaii and others states for the same days, which obviously is not Humanly possible for me to make . It is now just a little over 24 hrs before we are supposed to travel and our application still says in process while we are in week 13. This review is solely for the Miami Passport Agency. If I had to rate the US Department of State Passport Service, I would rate it a -100. Fact is, if it hadn't happened to me, I would not have believed the total, utter incompetence and lack of accountability of this government office. To make a long story short, I realized I had lost my passport in December. Submitted the required forms online in January & applied for a new EXPEDITED, OVERNIGHT DELIVERY passport the first week of February as I has a European vacation planned for May. When I applied, I was told I would have my passport within 5-8 weeks but that was not the case. After many sleepless nights, many more new white hairs, many totally useless & time wasting calls to the passport "help line" (those people do NOTHING), i was finally lucky enough to be connected thru elected officials to a coveted appointment at THIS amazing office. Did I arrive at 5am for my 7am appointment? Yes, I did. Do I regret it? Absolutely not! I was #1. By 6:30, the line was wrapping around the building, dozens with 7am appointments, too. Once inside, service was quick, efficient & OH SO PLEASANT! Smiles, conversation, jokes & laughs! I couldn't believe it! I arrived to my appointment 2 hours before, even before they opened because I wanted to be sure to get my passport that same day. 20 minutes before the office opened here was a line of people already. You need to be mentally prepared for the ordeal and provide all the documents they ask you for. Don't even try to get there without an appointment on that day. Primo is puzzled by the positive reviews for this federal government office. Summary: Don't wait to the last minute to renew your passport. This is an unbelievably inefficient process. See pro-tips at the end. It took me just under 9 hours of standing on line (you read that correctly) and I'm a regular US citizen with nothing to explain. Phase I: My appointment was for 9:30am. I arrived at 8:11am and joined the earlier line. We stood on line for 90 minutes to receive a number for the next line. At the end of this line a clerk reviewed my documents to make sure everything was in order. This took about five minutes. Time = 95 minutes Phase II: Wait for an hour until number is called. For context, there were 40 numbers ahead of mine to be called. So multiply the number of folks ahead of you by 1.5 and that's how long this wait is. Time = 60 minutes Phase III: The second clerk reviewed my documents and stamped them for 1pm pickup. Time = 5 minutes Phase IV Arrived at the 1pm pickup line at 12:45 and the line was snaked around the building. Lineup to get to the final phase took 135 minutes. Phase V Entered the final phase at 3:05pm. Approaching the seventh hour. At least now we have chairs. My passport was handed to me at 5:10pm, more than two hours since entering this phase and exactly 1 minute shy of 9 hours from the time I arrived. Time elapsed from start to finish = 8 hours, 59 minutes. If you're still reading this, a couple tips: * wear comfortable shoes * dress warmly * bring a cellphone charger * no food or drink allowed anywhere and nearest restaurants are two blocks away * the on-site photographer is really excellent! * if you can't schedule the appointment online, ask your congressman and/or senator's office to take care of it. They will. * the security officers are chill. Treat them with respect and they'll take care of you. * if you're elderly or out of shape, seriously consider bringing a wheelchair. Made an appointment exactly two weeks before my international flight. Called the line when they opened at 8am, was able to get an appointment for 6/9 for 8am. Arrived at the facility around 6:30 am for my appointment. Line was starting to wrap around the building. They will NOT let you in without an appointment. Don't bother. If you have all your necessary documents, it will be a breeze. I got inside the building around 6:52am (First appointments start at 7am). Was sent upstairs to wait in line for about twenty minutes. Went through the office to show my application. Was later sent to the next room with a number to sit and wait to be called. Waited about 45 minutes or so before my number was called. Handed in all my documents and was told to return by 1pm. I exited the building around 8:20am. Reading all the reviews, I came back at 11:30am. I am so glad I did. Waited from 11:30am to 3:30pm by the time my passport was finally issued. PSA, it is a randomized order for receiving it. They all print differently at different times, so be prepared to wait. Make sure you eat and drink before you come inside for this part. The only reason for four stars is because the first two hours or so of waiting for passports to be printed, only one of the three kiosks were open. Overall, it was a great experience. Be prepared to wait 7+ hours, absolutely no cell phone calls (Yes, that includes incoming + outgoing. You will be kicked out), and just have ALL of your documents prepared. Make copies, do whatever. I have a flight to Jamaica for business bringing health services to underserved children at a special needs school June 8th at 7:35am. My mother is joining us as a "last hoorah" before she's no longer able to travel due to her treatment for breast cancer. We worked with our local passport services to prepare a new passport for my baby (applicator ID 513260194) and renewal for my own. They told us 6-8 weeks was the expected time and we would not need to expedite. That information was unfortunately woefully incorrect. The state department received our applications on 3/17 and 3/30 despite mailing it mid-March. . I have tried dozens of times to call the NPIC but haven't been able to get through because of the large call volume. I finally got through on 5/28 after a 5 hour wait and upgraded to expedite our passports and paid for 1-2 day shipping. It is now June 6 and my daughter's and my application status is still "in process", unless it is shipped today or we can obtain an appointment at an agency, we will not be able to go on this trip. Unfortunately, there are no appointments literally anywhere in the country. This whole process has been so frustrating. We ordered passports for our 3 kids in February when my dad got sick knowing we might have to travel soon to say goodbye. They've been now processing for 13 weeks at the Miami office and we have continued to call with no response. We leave in 5 days, recently paid to expedite and overnight ship after making several calls to the agency and our congressmen, but no one can get in contact with the Miami office to expedite. Once through security, they will then check all your required documentation, give you a number and then tell you to sit down. 6. My number was called 2 mins later, I gave the person all the required documentation. Paid the fee. And was told I would receive a text to pick up my passport. 8. I was done within 30 mins. Left there at 7:30 am and received a txt at 10:00 am to come back and pick up my passport. 9. I came back around 10:30 am, I showed the guards the text and they let me in promptly. 10. As soon as i was inside they directed me towards a window. No line, no waiting. Just got to the window gave her my name along with the receipt that was given to me when i paid the fee earlier on. My oh my! I am in awe (still) of how quickly these agents get you your passport! It was my very first application for my us passport, and I will say that I was in an emergency time strain and I did have to wake up from 3:00AM-6:00AM every morning to hopefully snatch up a cancellation appointment because they are always booked. With all being said, I arrived at my appointment with required documentation and my hopes high and surely I was successfully promised a brand new passport that same day. I am writing this review because someone is daunted by bad reviews and is having a lot of anxiety about this process. I was that person. I want to help you not be. I assume you are here because you have an urgent need for a passport. Somehow you got an appointment to get a passport from this agency. 1. Please please please go online and figure out everything you need for your passport. Check and triple check the requirements. Fill out the appropriate forms, collect your documents (photos, birth certificate, proof of citizenship, current/expired passport, proof of travel, lost/ stolen passport form if applicable, parental consent if applicable, etc etc. This will make the process smooth and uneventful. 2. Plan to arrive before your appointment time to allow for parking, traffic, getting lost looking for building etc. You can park in the Omni building parking lot. This is where the Double Tree hotel is for a landmark. Look for the row of flags outside the building and enter the lot there. At the time of this post the first hour is $12 and each additional I believe is around $7 3. If you park in the OMNI building lot you will see signs to park on the 6th or 7th floor for the passport agency. Drive up, park and catch the elevator back down. At that point you will exit the elevator and follow signs to the building. The building entrance is close to the street. 4. When you enter the building a security guard will direct you to catch elevators up to the fourth floor. Follow signs to the agency. Someone will check your appointment form before directing you to security where you will go through metal detectors. i saw someone turned away for not having an appointment. At that point you are in and will enter a line where you check in for your appointment. The check-in line was the longest part of the process for me. The guards asked that only one family member stood in line and the rest could have a seat. If you have children they can stay with you of course. I had two. The wait for me was about 50 minutes. Once at the windows they will check your forms and may ask a few questions. If you have what you need you get your number and go sit and wait for it to he called. I waited literally about 5-6 minutes before I was called. Once at the next window the agent will go through the whole process of verifying your forms and completing the administrative tasks necessary. They will get your signatures and you will swear that the information is accurate to the best of your knowledge. You will pay whatever applicable fees are required and receive a time to come back to retrieve your passport. It may be the same day or later depending on your travel. That's it for that part. I cannot speak to the experience of others. I am sure some days are worse than others but this was a very streamlined process for me. I was in and out in less than 1.5 hours. I never thought a bureaucratic government agency would be this efficient and I would actually have a GOOD experience that involved anything at the Federal level. But, there is a first time for everything! So, first things first, the negative reviews are by people who: 1) Do not read the instructions and or do not follow them 2) Think the rules do not apply to them or take accountability 3) Probably have something wrong w/them that is hard to pronounce That being said...I went to the State Dept website, passport renewal section because like a dumb-dumb, I thought my passport still had an additional yr before expiring. I had booked my trip and w/in 10days of it realized my passport was not going to meet the tourist visa reqs for entry. I got an appt 3 days from the date I submitted my request and had my confirmation number. The confirmation email explicitly tells you what you need to bring when showing up for your appt and to come early. My appt was at 11am, I came at 10:30am. I had all the documentation, including my passport, completed forms, passport pic, and confirmation number. Several of the people in front of me did not and the poor reps triaging the check-in line had to deal w/these angry idiots because they could not or chose not to follow these directions. When I finally got up to the check-in, I had advised the lady that I had my itinerary, flight confirmation and hotel confirmation on my phone, she said this was absolutely fine. I showed her my confirmations, verified my docs, and moved to the next section. You go through the metal detector and are told to silence your cell and no phone calls or pics. 3 people were escorted out because they could not follow those 3 simple rules. Again, not Agency's fault if people are moronic and think the rules don't apply to them. I stood in line for the 2nd appt check-in to get my assigned number. They re-verified I had all my docs, entered some info, and told me to take a seat. It's a pretty effective system and they go through pretty quickly. I was maybe sitting for just short of 30mins and was about 20 numbers behind the last posted number in my group. My number was called and posted on the screen above the allotted window. They asked me for my travel dates, checks my forms, passport one more time and I paid my fees (they take credit cards, which was a welcome surprise!) and gave me a receipt to come back in two days after 2:30pm to pick up my passport. This whole process took just over an hour total. I came back 48hrs later, with my receipt, checked-in w/the guard and was told to take a seat and my name would be called. Not 10mins after arriving my name was called w/a window number and I picked up my passport/passport card. No muss, no fuss. If you can read, process what you read, and follow the instructions/directions, it is a very quick, easy, and painless process. I was also shocked about how nice all of the Fed employees actually were! But, here's the thing. I had my sh*t together and was pleasant to them. You get your way faster when you're nice #duh So, kudos to them. Because seeing what they had to deal with in the way of some of the people...wow...just wow. It would have been a 5-star experience except for one thing: the location. It is a mess! Between the floors and elevators and signs that don't direct properly and the labyrinthine layout + paying $10/1st hr and $2 for ever 20mins afterwards, that was the most unpleasant part! When I went back I was able to find street parking and even though it took me all of 15mins tops, the $3 charge for hr via mobile pay was much better. read more
