Mike and his team were exceptional. This is only one of many examples, but they were the only contractors to put up temporary plastic walls to contain drywall and construction dust. Their tiling work--flooring and backsplash--was beautiful. If we ran into an old or unexpected issue Mike immediately had solutions, and we figured it out. His timeliness was strong. He worked hard to make sure that things were completed. Mike was also a joy to work with. I've worked and met with different contractors, and Mike Scott (MIB) is the only one I've provided to other close friends and family. He's very intelligent, explains his reasoning, and teaches you things. He's also really respectful--I was the main contact for this project--and I never felt like Mike spoke to me differently because I was a woman or anything. Just a really smart and fair. There were little things--like, I know that glass tile often works best with a different grout *and* that other contractors, especially at that time, often use the traditional grout--most people wouldn't know or catch the difference. But Mike does things the right way and knows how to do them the right way. You're contracting a quality team. This review is unsolicited and late! The project work happened a few years ago, but the time that's passed means I can tell you how the work held up over time. And you know what? The kitchen is so fresh and a lovely space to stand in. We never had cracked flooring or other things that happen when the installers don't know what they're doing. The kitchen turned out so beautifully. The experience was just such a blessing to my family, and it's very important to me to say so. I have experience with other contractors, and Mike Scott and his craftspeople/team are wonderful. We hired MIB to renovate our bathroom, put in some new flooring, replace our front door, and misc. associated painting. MIB was more expensive than other quotes, but we were hoping for good quality and low stress that Mike seemed to offer. Unfortunately, based on our experience, I would not use MIB again, nor recommend them. If you ever hire a contractor, demand a bond, no matter what. If things aren't done right, a bond covers you hiring a different contractor to fix it. Mike talked us out of a bond by claiming he guarantees all their work. That sounded great, but when push came to shove, the "guarantee" was meaningless. I would list all the problems we had, but it's just too long a list. We got to the point where we had no faith in their quality/workmanship or ability to make it right, and we were sick of dealing with problem after problem. We decided we'd be better off hiring someone else to correct the problems they left us with, though we knew that would cost us more. We asked MIB to waive the $900 balance remaining on our $15,000 job, since he "guaranteed" their work. He refused and left a message threatening to put a lien on our house if we didn't pay the balance of the contract, although the work under contract was not complete and we were left with all these problems. We paid the $900 and wrote it off as an expensive lesson learned. Ultimately, we were left with a new front door that needs complete refinishing, a bathroom ceiling with chunks falling down, and a long list of repainting, re-grouting, and other messes to fix. The one positive I will share is that Bill, the foreman, has some real woodworking skills. He was able to fix one stupid problem (where Mike didn't measure correctly for the new front door) by building a new threshold and trim surrounding the door frame. read more

Mike and the MIB crew have done two projects for us - granite kitchen counters with a stone backsplash, and a large composite deck off our back patio. Their work is extremely precise and well done. We trust Mike and his crew to take care of our home like they would take care of theirs. He schedules his guys masterfully between jobs so that progress is always being made. He even brought over the samples ahead of time so we were never overwhelmed by the showroom experience. All of MIB Remodeling (Mike Scott's) reviews should be 5 stars!! We just finished having Mike remodel our Master Bath and it was a WONDERFUL experience. He is the BEST!! I personally grew up with commercial construction and know when something is done right or wrong and Mike and his crew did it ALL RIGHT!! The whole experience was not only done correctly, but in a decent time frame. The crew was always here when they said they would be here and pleasant to have in our home. I trust them completely! I even left my home at times to run errands and felt very comfortable doing so! And, believe me I am very aware of how things can get "lost". Nothing is missing! The work itself it BEAUTIFUL! Before they finished they cleaned up each evening and made sure that all was done correctly. No hurry type business is this! Mike makes sure it is done correctly and not "slip shod" work! He whole bathroom was taken apart, except for the cabinets and they made sure they were taken care of while construction was going on. Things were covered up to minimize the dust in the house.
