Just had a great gathering of ~75 friends of our foundation watching the World Cup. Manager Chet made the planning easy and the front room with all the TV's tuned to the game was perfect for our group. Food was great and they did kept everything re-stocked. Amy & Marissa were awesome and really hustled taking care of everyone, never letting anyone's glass run out. Bar staff led by Carrie also great. Went to celebrate my son in laws birthday-gone attractive feature is that the birthday boy or girl, on their birthday, get 20 free bone in or boneless wings anyway you like them. So August 13, 2023 was my cousin birthday and we decided to go to MicGinny's on the River for the free wings and other food. So we ordered our food and when it came my onions rings were burnt. I'm like why won't the waitress serve food they will eat. When I told her, excuse me ma'am my onion rings way to cooked. They burnt. I cant eat these. She looked at me and said yea and left the table. I'm thinking she going to get me more onion rings. Nope. I didnt wanna make a scene about it cause it was my cousin birthday but that wasnt fair to me i had to pay for three chicken fingers and some burnt onion rings i didnt eat. 10 dollars it was. Thats crazy. Then we ask for a to go box to take the nachos we order. Only three nachos was eaten from it. We were goin to go home smoke and eat the nachos and relaxing. The waitress came and took our to go box full of nachos and threw them away. She did it so smooth we didn't even see her take it from the table. Then we asked her did she take our to go nachos and she was like oh it's down stairs. So we decided to follow her cause we like why would she take it? When we got downstairs she turned around to us and said I'll just take it off the bill. Why would you take our nachos and throw them away im still asking? No answer. Im shaking my head cause I wanted them nachos. That was crazy. Wasn't feeling her service. She really wasn't a good waitress. We had to wait for drinks, and refills. We have enjoyed dining here for countless years! I came in for my birthday on 12/23, as promised to Sal. I always try to send business his way from the University of Rochester Athletics. He's super friendly and great to work with. We enjoyed the macaroni and cheese, Garlic Parmesan Wings and Jimmy the Greek Salad as well. We typically only go here for the free wings on your birthday promo. The bar area is small, but there is plenty of seating. We went there on my birthday in December. It's also my younger daughter's birthday (same day!) so we were prepared to eat MANY wings haha. Unfortunately, it was a Sunday night and MicGinny's is a huge Pittsburgh Steelers fan bar. There was only one table upstairs and the 6 of us had to squeeze around it. It was loud as people were cheering for the game. But... the wings were fantastic. You can only choose 2 types of sauce but that was ok. You order in 20's so our server brought out 60 to start. I'd like to give a shout out to our server, Emerson. He was great! Dude: Baby, you know what I need... *tries to climb over bar* The bouncer came over, pulled him off the bar and assured us Dude was harmless. (We were not concerned.) About an hour later, the bouncer half-heartedly kicked Dude out of the bar. He came back in about 10 minutes afterward, and rocked out to Avril Lavigne (being played entirely too loudly for the number of patrons), Elaine-style, and fell to the floor in slow motion during one of the kicks. Go elsewhere, this place doe NOT have good food! I heard about MicGinny's by word of mouth so I thought we'd give them a try for the first time. It was a disappointing experience on multiple levels. First, I called ahead about 3:30pm and ordered two fish frys and an order of the Mac & Cheese to be picked up at 5pm. I arrived at 5pm and had to ask a couple employees, stood in the lobby and finally received our order at 5:20pm. It was not unusually busy so I'm not certain why there was a delay when I called well in advance and placed a basic order. The fish frys are small compared to other restaurants as pictured. The flavor of the fish was ok but nothing special. Also, the tartar sauce had a bit of a sour cream flavor and there were only about 5 onion rings per dinner. This dinner differed from the feedback I received from a couple of friends as well as some of the positive reviews posted on Yelp. The Mac & Cheese was a decent size portion and I thought my kids could share it. It was shockingly bland, cost $11 and my kids did not eat it. If you cooked up a box of Kraft Mac & Cheese at home and sprinkled some bread crumbs on top it would actually taste a bit better and definitely more cheesy. Their Mac & Cheese is certainly nothing like real Orzo Mac & Cheese like you'd get at Black & Blue, which only costs a couple bucks more. For $35, there are other choices available and staying at home making a fresh cooked meal makes more sense than spending the time and money on a meal like this. I should have looked at the other reviews on Yelp, most of which are negative and scathing. Clearly, the owner & leadership at MicGinnys does not care and had given up!! This is the first time I was there so this view is just from one visit. My family and I went there for my 43rd birthday for the chicken wings in the early afternoon. We did this for 2 reasons, one we heard they are good. Two they are free on yor birthday. This place does a special, on the day of your birthday, you bring in your ID showing your DOB you get free chicken wings. I thought maybe they give you a dozen or so. Nope! Whatever age you are turning that is how many you get for free. My family got 43 for free. There are a lot of rules when it comes with this but they are understandable for why they have to have the rules. When we showed up the dinning area was empty but the bar area was packed. I am not a drinker so I have no clue if they were having drink specials or if this is just a hang out on Friday afternoon. We were greated and seaed right away with no wait. The dinning area was very nice and clean. A lot of natural light coming in. The waitress was very nice and took our order right away. It took a little bit for us to get our drinks but I am guessing that is because of how busy the bar was. We were allowed to order 2 different kinds of suace for the wings. We got Country Sweet and BBQ, which both were very good. For my first time there I really have no complants on anything. Ihad my oe year old son there and they made sure he alwys had something water and made sure our drinks were always full. The food was good and seemed fresh. It's a sports pub. We braved the middling Yelp rating and stopped in...and loved it. TVs everywhere, ample seating, burgers, fries, good apps. Our server was very friendly, especially when we explained being from out of town and wanted to know about the famous Rochester garbage plate. Now this is the place you want to be for Sunday football, especially if you're a Steelers fan! The whole back room is filled with fans and it was an incredible atmosphere. There is a core group of fans that seem to run the show. Through-out the game they do fun things to collect money for fundraisers and the day I went they did a 50/50 raffle as well as sold cool MicGinnys/Steelers shirts. It's clear they have a passion for what they're doing and it made me feel good to be a part of it. The room is also filled with TV's in every corner, so no matter where you look, you can watch the game. Now for the food... the reuben... WOW, talk about delicious. It had huge chunks of tender corned beef and was well put together. Definitely up there with one of the best I've had. Service through-out the whole game was impressive too. They really stayed on top of every patron, making sure everyone had what they wanted and it was all done with a smile too. I love everything about this place. The food, drinks, staff are the best. It's a party atmosphere from the time you enter until you leave. It's a diverse crowd with people of all ages, races, ethnicity which makes it all the more appealing. Chet the bartender is one of the greatest bartenders we know; he should teach bartending. MicGinny's customer service is terrible. We went there 11/30/19 for my birthday. The waitress was nice in an flighty kind of way. We received ALL of our food without utensils and napkins. When it was time to settle the bill, we were told they would not separate the bill. They did not have time. AND told us, "YOU HAVE TO FIGURE IT OUT YOURSELF"! I used to hang out in this place many moons ago, when it was Jox. It looks the same, but updated. Clean interior, with plenty of TV's and some couches scattered about. I thought it was pretty chilly inside, but that probably had something to do with it being -4 degrees outside. They had a decent beer selection. I had their version of a reuben which, for some reason, wasn't called a reuben. It was excellent!! It definitely wasn't made with deli meat, this was the real deal! My wife got a turkey club wrap and loved it. One of our group got some monstrosity of a pile of tots, cheese, peppers... heart attack on a plate, and not one shred of regret have I for diving in!!! They have really fixed this place up well. If you were a fan of Calabria's, you can still have the delectable food. Seriously, this is amazing food. You definitely don't feel like you're eating in a bar. There's plenty of tables and a friendly wait staff. I've never had to wait long to eat, although Friday and Saturday nights do get really busy. TV's all around, the staff is really friendly, the owners are very cool, lots of room, plenty of bar games and if you're lucky, you'll see Bill.
