This man did his studying/training at three of the topmost institutions in this country and the world. Stanford, Harvard and Johns Hopkins. It just doesn't get any better than THAT folks! Anyone with credentials like that has got to be brilliant and Dr Chan is indeed extremely bright. His expertise is topnotch. He is very thorough, and he explains very well in simple language and slowly. He is an excellent listener and you do not feel rushed with him. His demeanor is charming and calming. He possesses all of the qualities everyone wants their doctors to have, but frequently find lacking. I am 83 and he has been my cardiologist since I moved to Orange County 12 years ago. read more

Dr. Michael Chan is an outstanding medical professional. I cannot speak highly enough about the care I have received from him over the years. He placed a stent for me many years ago and I continue to see him annually for checkups. It always amazes me how he manages to make you feel like you are the only person that matters in the moment, unlike so many other doctors that don't appear to like people. He pays attention to all the details and genuinely cares that you follow through with his advice. 9 times out of 10 he is on time which I love and demonstrates respect for his patient's time, where so many doctors seem to think their time is so much more important than yours. I find his staff to be generally responsive and do a great job too. I cannot recommend him enough. read more

Let me start off by saying I've been to four Cardiologists in the last 10 years, so I do have basis to compare. They've all been competent, some officious, but are all busy. Dr. Chan stands head and shoulders above them. He is conscientious, asks deep probing questions, digs deep into issues and is committed to giving the highest level of care. Dr. Michael Chan is a brilliant and compassionate doctor. My father, who is 85, had a heart attack on 9/20/21. Dr. Chan and his team operated on him. Before the surgery, Dr. Chan sat in a circle with our family. He learned all our names, and we said a prayer. He connected with us on a deep level. We knew that Dad had a 10% chance of making it. If I could give zero stars I would. I do not normally write reviews but I feel it is my responsibility to let others know what happened. My Mom was in the CVICU at St. Joseph's Hospital. Dr. Chan was uncaring & not responsive or responsible when asked to evaluate my Mom who was in the critical care unit. He was disconnected, so unconcerned, when he finally did decide to show up, he gave us no solutions, no treatment plan. It seemed as though he could not be bothered. I will say, he has a very good opinion of himself. Why...I have no idea. He showed no compassion, care or concern for my Mom. Physicians take a Hippocratic oath to treat the ill to the best of one's ability...regardless of age. First of all, I may be a little biased since Dr Chan's tenacity saved my life. He inserted 3 stents into my 100% blocked LAD in the early morning hours of 9/5/15. It is for that reason alone, my family and I would give him 5 Stars! The care afterward though, which is just as important, is why I rate him 5Stars and more if possible. Everyone that I have spoken to about Dr. Chan tells me that he is "tough" and "will be on you" to make sure you're following his directions to keep you from having a repeat incident, or worse. It's because he cares. His first comment to my wife and I was about how I should not be going through this at the age of 41. It was a call to action to make some changes in lifestyle and his encouragement got my entire family to adopt lifestyle changes that I know are going to be beneficial and improve our longevity. At his recommendation, my family has adopted a plant based diet. I think many doctors find it easier to prescribe some pills and recommend the bare minimum that will at least be better than where you were. They assume that most people don't have the willpower to make the drastic changes necessary. Dr. Chan did not. He told me what the absolute best course of action was and I followed it. Since then I have dropped over 30 lbs. My cholesterol has dropped dramatically and I have an LDL:HDL ratio of 2.9. My blood pressure is under control at under 120/80 and my prescribed cardiac rehab is making me stronger every day. I cannot say enough about the care that Dr Chan has provided and the support he provided my family. Dr. Chan is the absolute bomb. First of all, I had a mountain biking accident recently that led to mild traumatic brain injury. Luckily, Dr. Chan keeps up with the research literature, and took me off aspirin a long time ago, well in advance of the recent U.S. Panel report. I have thought so many times about how easily and much I used to bleed back when I was on aspirin. I could have so easily ended up with bleeding in my brain if I was still on the aspirin. Second of all, I have had some problems with heart-related anxiety, because heart issues are rampant in my family, and a number of indicators so far look quite bad. This can be very confusing to navigate, because symptoms of anxiety and heart attacks can overlap. Dr. Chan has been extremely helpful in helping me to navigate this complexity. Unfortunately, I moved away recently, but I am so bummed to not have him as my cardiologist anymore. read more

In my opinion this medical practice is for the benefit of the doctors only and the patients are absolutely secondary.While Dr.Chan's earns his living practicing Cardiology he appeared to have no urgency whatsoever with regards to my medical issues. Recently I called for an appointment for an urgent issue and was told, even though I was a returning patient, I still had to wait 3 weeks to see another Doctor in the practice and over 1 month to see Dr.Chan. I believe this Cardiology practice fails to live up to the high standards of St. Joseph Hospital/Hoag. Beware!!! Beware!!! This Cardiology practice,"St. Joseph Heritage Cardiology" may cost you your life if you have a true emergency!!! Luckily for me I was able to find an outstanding Cardiologist who was able to see me within one day. Additionally he practices Interventional Cardiology. Let me preface my post by saying that this review is for my experience with Dr. Chan's staff. I have never spoken with, met or had any type of contact with Dr. Chan himself. My family changed insurance (previously Kaiser Permanente) and now I need a new cardiologist. I found Dr Chan through our insurance company's list of approved providers and then checked him out on Yelp. Last Friday, June 17th, I called Dr. Chan's office to see if he would accept a new patient. The representative who I spoke with said she couldn't find our insurance company in her approved. list. She requested that I FAX her a copy of my insurance card. I asked if I could scan it and email it to her since I haven't used a FAX machine personally or in any business application in almost 10 years as it's an archaic technology. First she responded that they didn't have the capability of receiving it via email, but then she changed her mind and gave me her email address. I sent the email and requested that she contact me upon receipt. Today, one week after sending my email and receiving no response, I contacted the office again. A different representative answered the phone. I explained that I was still waiting for a response after a week. She said, "Oh my. That's not good. Who did you send the email to?" She put me on hold, but quickly came back on the line and said that the first representative would get back to me as soon as possible. The first rep soon called me to ask my birth date, my wife's birth date, and the spelling of my first name. A few minutes later, she called to say that she had verified that our insurance was accepted by Dr. Chan's office and that she could schedule an appointment for me. Before she gave me a date, she started rambling about Dr. Chan's schedule. Candidly, I couldn't tell whether she said he just got back from vacation, is on vacation, or is going to go on vacation. I just know there was something about two weeks out of the office and some catch up after that, so the first date available is August 29th. Today is June 24th. I've been waiting a week to find out that I would have to wait 2 months for an appointment. I told her would be out of medication by that time and would be unable to wait over two months for an appointment. I thanked her for taking a week (and who knows how much longer if I didn't call back) to give me unacceptable information. She said the first available date would have been the same last week. Never mind that I might have actually found a different cardiologist over the past week rather than wait to hear back from Dr. Chan's office based upon his good Yelp reviews. I told her that it appeared Dr. Chan was already too busy to take on new patients anyway. Dr. Chan may be the best cardiologist out there. I'll never know. read more

I have been seeing Dr Chan since 2014. He is an excellent cardiologist. He has a bed side manor and personality and really listens to his patients. He also has a fantastic PA named Jessica that is always helpful and a great additional support between seeing the Dr. DR. Chan treated my Mom 5 years ago and saved her life doing a stent and suggesting a triple bypass surgery. read more

I have been taking my dad to Dr. Michael Y. Chan for the past two years. Dr. Chan truly cares about his patients overall wellbeing not just their heart health. Dr. Chan has taken excellent care of my father, after he had a heart attack Dr. Chan scheduled him for more testing and another angiogram to make sure that there was no other blockage and that the stints where in properly. Dr. Chan makes sure he stays on his diet and exercise schedule and talks to him about his medication and how he feels about what is happening with his health. Dr. Chan makes his patients feel comfortable and cared for and has a wonderful personality that makes you feel comfortable asking any question.  Dr. Chan is one of the best cardiologist and doctors in Orange County. read more

He helped me through a very difficult time and did so with grace, kindness, and compassion.
