Michael is the best there is!! I interviewed and tried working with a dozen trainers, and found Michaels approach to be singular. He is positive, results oriented, and doesnt force you into training programs or boarding programs you dont need. You dont follow a cookie cutter lesson plan, he responds to the exact needs of your furry pal. When I started working with Michael, my dog Rodeo was wild. He would lunge and go to attack every dog we walked by on our walking path. Just two months later, he is frollicking off leash and the beach and someone asked me if Im a dog trainer because my dog was so well behaved and happy! Michael is so wonderful too because he provides support in between lessons, so when bad days come around - and they do - he is there to provide gentle encouragement, tips and reinforce best practices. He looks for patterns that attribute to reactivity and changes the behavior by going to the source - the root cause.. Anyone would be lucky to work with him. Youll have a new dog!

We were referred to Michael Hill by good friends and we were/are thrilled with him! We got a new puppy in March, although it wasn't our first time having a puppy we wanted some refresher training for us as well as some tips for training Milo. Michael was so great on both fronts! He is so personable and easy to be around, he watched us interact with Milo and gave us constructive notes. We met him with Milo in various settings, at the park, at a coffee house, walking along a busy street, which were all great ways to learn how our new pup interacted in each setting and so helpful to have Michael observe and comment! We were able to reserve one of the coveted "board and train" spots with Michael, Milo returned after a week like a little prince! Michael Hill is fantastic, we highly recommend him! Michael imparting his wisdom to both dog and human!

Some people were simply put on this planet with a special gift for understanding animals (including us humans), and Michael is one of those rare gifted people. He radiated empathy, intelligence, and committed expertise from our first meeting, and he shared with me the specialized knowledge and skillset that dog owners of all levels would benefit from acquiring in order to build a happy life with their animal. Despite having had two other dogs in my life, when I adopted a new rescue animal who had separation anxiety, I knew I needed a professional to teach me (more so than even my dog) how to send good well-timed cues, establish crate training, and radiate secure energy to teach my dog to be independent and secure too. I learned that so much of our work with dogs comes from non-verbal cues and smells/pheromones we send-- training animals requires that you be in a calm state of mind, and in many ways Michael is as much a "people" trainer as he is a dog trainer. After just two sessions with Michael at home, I learned a treasure trove of new information about dog psychology, I received real-time training notes for me as the owner that I still use in my daily walks outside, and my dog has improved significantly in his separation anxiety! Basically, Michael is a genius at what he does. I learned how non-intuitive dog psychology can be, and how crucial it is (even for "experienced" dog owners) to update their learning. The field of dog training has evolved to new standards in the past 20 years and Michael represents this newer understanding of working with dog psychology. His aptitude, combined with his years of empirical practice and dog-whisperer energy, made him the best trainer I could have hoped to find. Some people have both the passion and the gift -- Michael is one such dog trainer!

We are so happy with the training package that we purchased with Michael. Before adopting our rescue pup Walnut, we read a dog training book and thought we had everything under control. We were wrong!! Our puppy weighed only four pounds but would growl and bark at every other dog she saw. We didn't think we would ever be able to socialize her. Michael explained that her aggression was coming from a place of fear and after two training sessions out and about in West Hollywood, she has never barked at another dog again. After our first few sessions, Walnut was still having a hard time relaxing enough to be able to enjoy being around other animals. That all changed after we went out of town and boarded her with Michael and his dogs for four days! She returned from her stay at his house having learned boundaries around other dogs and finally had the confidence to really play and interact with them. She is now nine months old, and we just took her on her first trip. She spent the weekend running around and wrestling with two giant golden retrievers. No barking, no growling, just bouncing around and having fun. I cannot recommend Michael and his approach highly enough. His focus beyond just the basics of sit and stay has made such a difference in our lives, and we are forever grateful for his time and expertise.

I don't even know where to start with how amazing Michael is - both with our little Regan and, more importantly, with us, the owners... which is where all the healthy behavior begins. This is absolutely THE best investment we have made for our little Bernedoodle. Michael had SUCH a relatable way of teaching our little pup and more importantly us - her puppy parents in an understandable, healthy, calm, beneficial way. After watching so many differing puppy training videos, I am SO relieved we found him. He literally is MADE to do this. He has a gift for helping train our dogs and us, the owners, in a compassionate, structured way. Which is exactly what we needed and what Regan needed. He has become not only a friend but but the greatest source for helping Regan live a healthy, fun, structured, well-behaved, enjoyable life. We are so incredibly grateful for this journey we took with him and our little puppy. Having trained dogs and shown dogs all his life, he has such a wealth of knowledge that I know we will want to have more of that as Regan grows up!

I came to Michael a complete novice and a little bit of a hot mess - first dog (ever) and first puppy! My puppy, Pennie, was four months old at the time and I was losing my mind. I had no idea what to do--I was being driven to my breaking point. I was completely overwhelmed. Luckily, I found Michael and loved his vibe from the start. I signed up for the package (which I highly recommend) and we got to work. Fast forward to graduation day of training, Pennie has come so far. She is a well-behaved pup and such a joy to watch grow. Now that I have great tools from Michael, I feel more confident and that shows through in Pennie too. She absolutely loved her sessions and was so happy to see him too and that will make any pet parent happy :). I highly recommend Michael. I'm so grateful for the tools and the work he did with Pennie and me!

Bosong after his training session with Michael

I researched possibly every trainer available in the LA area and even interacted with 2 of them before finding Michael. Michael is the best trainer I've worked with and his solutions are reasonable, understanding, yet still firm. I think Michael does a great job also reassuring you that certain things are going as expected or not, providing great guidance for you to train your dog. Michael helped me mainly with crate training Bosong as well as leash pulling which Bosong is notorious for. His methods have proved to work and Bosong is much better on walks now and still getting better. Michael has always been available and responds to my texts immediately for which I have been so grateful for. Everyone has different ideas of what they're comfortable doing to train their dog and every dog is different. I think Michael understands this and tries to find the intersection between the best thing for the dog and the best method for you to implement confidently. I'm confident that you will not regret having Michael as a dog trainer as he has helped me become a more confident and competent owner. Thank you Michael!

    All smiles

This review is way overdue (Sorry Michael!!!). I cannot say enough great things about Michael Hill's dog training. In fact, I've already referred nearly everyone I know in LA with a pup. We were desperately looking for a dog trainer for our spoiled little guy, Wallace (2.5 year old, 100lb bernedoodle) but even more importantly for my fiance who is a complete pushover when it comes to our pup. Wallace hated going in the car, would nearly pull me over or drag me along on walks, jumped on guests, and loved to bark at any and every noise he heard all day long. After lots of research, I thankfully found Michael and couldn't be happier with the progress Wallace made in such a short time. Michael has a unique approach given his background in child psychology, which helps tremendously when training a dog. I really didn't want a trainer who used punishment as a way to train so I absolutely loved Michael's positive approach. Michael gave us so many tools, tips and tricks in just a few sessions that literally transformed Wallace's behavior. I never thought I would be able to handle taking Wallace out in public without my fiance's help but now I can easily get him in/out of the car, he no longer takes me for a walk, and he's very well behaved. Michael is a true dog lover and cares deeply about the animals he works with and Wallace immediately warmed right up to him. We're excited to work with Michael again when he looks after Wallace at our wedding this summer :)

Now I know what to do and where to do it! My mommy is so proud of me!

I don't know what I would have done without Michael -the 10 month old cavapoo I adopted turned out not to be at all house trained.it was so difficult, especially due to my limited I didn't know if I would be able to keep her... Michael was our earth-angel. He provided boarding, training, and lots and lots of actionable advice for me! Two weeks later she is completely different dog in all the right ways. I can't recommend Michael enough! He is kind, considerate, and an absolute expert in his field.

Michael is the dog whisperer! I've had such a struggle crate training my 3 yr old dachshund Theo especially in an apartment building with thin walls. He is often very head strong but in just two weeks with Michael, Theo came back so much calmer and immediately ran into his crate without barking. Michael teaches you his tricks and tips to follow when he comes home to make the transition so smooth and consistent. Michael is extremely communicative throughout the entire process and sends updates and videos and photos every day! Michael helps eliminate the hard part and as long as you continue the easy steps Michael gives you when he comes home and be consistent, your dog will be so much better behaved. Michael doesn't just train your dog, he trains you to be a better owner! And the best part is seeing how much fun your dog is having with Michael during his stay too. He mixes fun with hard work to make it enjoyable. He's helped Theo not pull on his leash on walks and not beg for food! overall Theo came home practically a new dog and has so much more focus and better listening skills, no accidents etc! I recommend Michael to anyone who needs some extra help.

    Brisbane high fiving!

Wow! Basically sums it up. Michael is a true dog whisperer. We were referred to him through a friend to help with our little nine month old labradoodle puppy Brisbane. Yes a cute little one that was full of energy and ready to explore EVERYTHING, which also came with trying to "chew on just about everything" - and in turn left the unintended destruction in his wake, we then tuned to Michael. Having had dogs before and trained with them when they were pups, a few of the key things I had learned faded away with time. Michael immediately helped put us right back on track, but then after five sessions with him we also learning a vast amount of new techniques that really helped us communicate best with our pup. He communicated very clearly with us the process on the outset and also communicated beautifully with our Brisbane. We have fully been able to turn our frustrating puppy experience with our little guy completely around. After reintroducing that core structure and some new techniques with Brisbane, he responded swiftly and his reign of mischievous puppy-dome is now turned into our sweet boy companion. Michael we can't thank you enough. Anyone looking for help with obedience from mild to wild with your pup - he is your guy! Truly a gem.

Wrigley during one of her Board and Train sessions!

Michael is an awesome trainer! My 4 year old Chihuahua/ Jack Russell Terrier mix had reactivity issues that made walking her very difficult. My dog is a rescue that was previously re-homed a couple of times. She had some anxiety issues leading her to bark at any person or dog that she saw. It seemed like she did not enjoy being outside. I had taken her to several other trainers to work on this issue and after a year of trying by myself with quick fixes that did not seem to work, I decided that the Board and Train program with Michael at District Dogs would be my last effort to try and create some positive change for my dog. While at the Board and Train program, Michael sent daily updates so that I could see my dog's progress. He not only provided updates through social media, but was available to answer any questions as they arose. After 12 days of board & train sessions with Michael, Wrigley is almost like a different dog. I could immediately see the changes in her behavior when I picked her up from District Dog. My dog is already walking with more confidence and she seems much less afraid of her surroundings. Michael gave us the tools we need to continue Wrigley's progress at home. The program is definitely worth it and I cannot recommend Michael enough.

Just got a puppy... German shepherd mix pitbull. She is sweet and loving but she does her business everywhere. Do you off potty training as well?

    Yes I do!

Hi, I have a 3yr old Frenchie that nips at my feet and guest feet, lunges at strangers and continues to lick and circle around his younger Frenchie nephew? Can you help with these issues?

Happy to help! You can submit a training inquiry on my website www.Michaelhilldogtraining.com to get started!

My dog has been having issues with the other dog inside our house. She's a year and a half and is becoming over protective and will chase the dogs and attack them. She's territorial over toys and food, and is 2 months new to this house and dog. Help?

I'm researching & have found other trainers use an alpha or apparently growling method with their dogs. I personally do not want to growl or yell at my dog. Do you use these techniques?

I do not use those techniques :)

Do you offer cat training services or know anyone to refer?

I do not - best of luck!

She is a detailed, positive dog trainer, who is also great at training us, on how to properly walk our dog Charlie. It has come to our attention that there is another dog trainer in the area who got a similar company name to Jenina and he is awful. Some of the criticism of him has been accidently hurtled at Jenina. This is truly unfortunate for her and I hope the facts come to light!

Then, once he recovered from that, had a fever that almost killed him and had to be hospitalized again. We had to keep him quarantined for a while and away from my other dog (a 7 year old Pomeranian at the time) and get all his vaccinations from the beginning. He was scared of literally every single noise and had anxiety about just about everything. Over time, he developed extreme food aggression and we were worried for the safety of my little Pom. He had been attacked a few times to the point of actual injury and it was extremely stressful for everyone. I was at my wits end and I felt like I had tried everything to help Gunnar (my Shiba) and protect Simba (my Pom). I did a lot of research and stumbled upon Jenina and sent her a message for private sessions where she would come to my apartment once a week. I believe I only used her for a little over a month but I am eternally grateful. The level of aggression Gunnar displayed was so dangerous that my roommate and I actually have been bitten with blood trying to protect Simba from harm where food is involved. The issue was that he wasn't aggressive with all foods and we were unaware the extent until it was too late (ex. we thought it was only wet food so we were giving a chew stick to them separately where I would have Simba sitting next to me on the couch and Gunnar would be on the floor away from Simba with my roommate and the switch was so sudden----from sweet to seemingly no warning lunging at Simba----I stuck my leg out to protect Simba and he bit my leg instead). I feel like at this point, a regular human being would give Gunnar up, but that wasn't an option. It wasn't an option when he came to me dying from Parvo, it wasn't an option when he had an almost fatal fever, and it wasn't going to be an option for me now. I was determined to find a way to help him because he is my baby and my responsibility. The vet suggested I contact a behavioral specialist and when I did, VCA told me the earliest appointment they had was months later. Fed up with waiting, I found Jenina. In a month's time, she had given me the tools to fix a seemingly impossible situation. Make no mistake---she made me work for it. She might come across brash to some people but she is very direct and straight to the point. She doesn't coddle you and makes sure she lets you know what you need to do because while the session is for dogs, it is actually more like training the parent. She gives you "homework" and training info and is only willing to help you if YOU do the work. Now, it wasn't a complete fix. He still has anxiety outdoors or unknown noises as well as food aggression but it is nowhere near what he used to be. Before Jenina, Gunnar couldn't even take a step outside the apartment building let alone go for a walk. Three years later, Simba has sadly since passed but he has a little brother that he is extremely patient with as he acts like a typical annoying little brother), his food aggression has gone down from 100 to 30, and we go out to all sorts of places. He is THRIVING and this is all thanks to Jenina. My roommate and I are on high alert and know what to look for in terms of triggers and are very quick to de-escalate aggression situations. We try our best not to avoid known triggers and we work with him every day to allow him to be his best self. He is the sweetest boy and we are so glad he's been able to show it instead of being overshadowed by aggression and anxiety. She also gave Gunnar his nickname---Gunny! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU. I am so sorry it took this long to leave this review but thank you so much for saving us. If we had listened to the VCA behavioral specialist that basically called Gunnar a monster and suggested we give him up, he probably would have been euthanized somewhere. We owe you so much.

We saw big improvements right away, Especially with our chihuahua, (because if you have a Chihuahua, you know they have a lot of personality packed in a tiny body with a lot of opinions) and the tools that she gave us helped us establish ourselves as the leaders of the pack. Carrie is really like a dog psychologist. She has an innate understanding of dogs and was able to translate a lot of the anxious behavior my dog was exhibiting and helped us to address it in a calm and gentle manner. He really responds to what we are asking of him (be calm/don't bark unnecessarily, etc. and makes a HUGE difference in the quality our lives. Additionally, a lot of the tools that she gave us helped our big (newer) dog to have more confidence and as a shelter dog, whose history was unknown, it has also been a game changer. He now can interact confidently with strangers, lives peacefully, with our little dog, and does not pull on the leash and responds to basic commands Overall, he seems very balanced. Through training with Bark Busters, we can see that our dog has more confidence and is more trusting with us and the result is a very happy dog... Moreover, as our dogs grow and evolve, we know that Carrie is always available to us by text, email and open to any visits we need as things come up. We feel that Bark busters was absolutely worth the investment and we will continue to use their services. Thank you Carrie and Pasha for explaining and helping us with our "kiddos."

We were told we'd receive ongoing support, customized training, and help throughout our dog's life--even if our circumstances changed or we moved. Unfortunately, that was not our experience. When Henry was a puppy, we had one in-home training session and, if I remember correctly, one follow-up email much later. As he matured, he began developing some unexpected behavioral issues despite being neutered and having been a very friendly puppy. I reached out to our trainers, Paksha and the other trainer on our account, multiple times to schedule follow-up training that was included in the program. The biggest obstacle was scheduling. Appointments were only offered during the workweek for follow up. I had to reschedule once because of an emergency, and another time because I realized my husband should be present so we could both learn and consistently reinforce the training. I was told they would get back to me with weekend availability. They never did. That was months ago, and I never heard back. We paid thousands of dollars specifically because Bark Busters advertised lifetime support, but when we actually needed that support, it simply wasn't there. The contrast between Henry's training with Bark Busters and the excellent training we received years ago from a local Burbank trainer is significant. Charlie, our other dog- three years younger than Henry, has outstanding manners because of those sessions in group training. Henry never received the ongoing guidance that Bark Busters promised, and we're left feeling like we paid a premium price for a service that effectively ended after the initial visit. If you're considering Bark Busters because of the "lifetime support" promise, I would reconsider... For us, it did not live up to the expectations that were set when we signed up.

I reached out to her very last minute, and after explaining my situation, she was incredibly understanding and was able to accommodate us right away. After just a couple of hours of training, I learned so much about how to better understand and communicate with my dog, Orion. The difference was honestly amazing--by the end of our session, he was walking so much better and no longer constantly pulling on the leash. Raquel was patient, knowledgeable, and took the time to explain not only what to do, but why certain techniques work. What I appreciated most was that she gave me more confidence as an owner and showed me how to continue reinforcing everything we learned at home. I already feel much less anxious taking Orion on walks and feel like I finally have the right tools to manage his behavior and reactivity. You can tell Raquel genuinely cares about the dogs she works with and wants both the dog and owner to succeed. I'm so grateful she was able to help us on such short notice, and I'm excited to continue working with her. I highly recommend her, especially to anyone feeling overwhelmed with a reactive or newly rescued dog.

We had tried what felt like everything and his separation anxiety was so bad that it got to the point that my partner and I basically gave up our social lives, had to coordinate with one another one of us would be going to the market or if it would be a trip where we both can go but someone sits in the car with our dog. We met the team at K9 Logic Dog Training and they assessed our dog and determined what kind of training program would be best for him to address his separation anxiety and the other skills we wanted to work on. Within a week we noticed progress. We finally were able to leave the house for an hour and go to the market together. Week by week the time has gradually gotten longer where we have been able to leave him alone for longer periods of time to reclaim our social life back. I was skeptical at first, but after that first week I became a believer. We are so happy with the results that for the purpose of just giving him structure and routine we signed him up for more classes and he LOVES being at school. We've also participated in the weekend group training sessions and they are so helpful to not only give our dog routine, but it's a great way to reinforce structure and keep him sharp with everything he learned at school. Signing up for training with K9 Logic Dog Training was the best decision we could made for our dog to set him up for success.

Unfortunately, my experience once training began left me uncomfortable, and I decided to withdraw him after two sessions. When I arrived for the first session, I was surprised to find that the training facility was a private residence. Everything took place outside at the front gate, and I was not given a tour, a clear explanation of the setup, or much of a welcome. I was expected to hand my puppy to a staff member I had never met, who would place him in a kennel until his training began. Since this was my first time leaving him with strangers, the lack of an introduction or information about where he would be staying made me uneasy. I had been instructed not to feed Fumi dinner the night before or breakfast that morning, so I packed his food and treats with the understanding that they would feed him or use his food during training. When I picked him up around 4:00 p.m., I discovered that none of his food had been opened or touched. Because he was only four months old and had not eaten since the previous day, this was extremely upsetting. I was told that he had received plenty of treats, and a manager later called to apologize, but the experience still left me concerned about leaving him in their care. I was also handed training tools without being clearly reminded that I would be charged separately for them. I later received a text with the bill and was told that the cost had been included in the contract. I would encourage future clients to review those additional charges carefully and ask whether they can purchase the tools themselves, as similar items may be available elsewhere for less. Sasha, the trainer, was very kind, and I appreciate the manager reaching out to apologize. However, between the feeding incident, the overall drop-off experience, the unexpected equipment charges, and not seeing improvement after two sessions, I ultimately did not feel that this program was the right fit for me or my puppy.

It gives us so much peace of mind knowing he is with someone we completely trust and who truly loves and cares for him.
