We cannot recommend Leonard enough. He worked incredibly well with our labradoodle, who struggled with both dog aggression and people aggression, and the transformation has been amazing. What really sets Leonard apart is how much he helps you understand your relationship with your dog. He teaches you how to lead with confidence and take ownership of the environment so your dog doesn't feel like they have to. That shift alone was huge for us. From day one, Leonard was thoughtful and intentional--he really wanted to make sure we were committed, which I respected so much given how much time and energy he pours into each dog. After our boot camp consult, he told us that if it went well, he'd take our dog that same day--and he did. The change started immediately, and now the difference in our dog's behavior (both at home and out in public) is truly night and day--in the best way. Leonard treats every dog like his own. The level of care, structure, and consistency he provides is exactly what we should have done from the start. We had worked with three other trainers before him, and unfortunately none were effective--some even made the aggression worse. Leonard's approach was the only one that truly worked. His boot camp is absolutely worth the investment. We are so grateful for everything he's done and hope to work with him again for future dogs. Our dog is happier, more relaxed, and more confident--and so are we. Thank you, Leonard. We genuinely miss seeing you on the weekends and learning from your perspective on both dogs and life.

UPDATE 8 Months Later-- It has now been about eight months since working with Leonard Ludovico at Dominant Dogs, and somehow things continue to get even better every single day. Everything we wrote in our original review still stands, but what amazes us most is how lasting the transformation has been. Bella and Lexie are calmer, happier, healthier, and more balanced than ever before. People constantly ask us if they are the same dogs because they genuinely look different now. They even seem younger, more relaxed, and more confident. Before working with Leonard, our home was filled with stress, anxiety, barking, leash reactivity, and unpredictability. We had already tried multiple trainers using treats, clickers, and positive reinforcement methods, and nothing created real lasting change. Leonard's understanding of dog behavior and psychology is on another level. He doesn't just "train" dogs -- he rehabilitates them and teaches owners how to truly communicate with their dogs in a calm, structured way. The changes in Bella and Lexie have lasted and continue improving over time. Walks are enjoyable now, the dogs are peaceful in the home, and the anxiety and tension they once carried are gone. The relationship we have with them today is completely different. Looking back, enrolling them in Leonard's program was one of the best decisions we ever made. We are beyond grateful for everything he did for our dogs and for

We couldn't be happier to have dogs we can take anywhere thanks to Leonard!

Sending a huge thank you to Leonard for all he did to change our dog into one that is able to go anywhere calmly and confidently. Nicky has been home from her training for 6 months and has retained all the lessons Leonard so patiently taught her. I couldn't recommend Leonard more highly!

We came to Leonard as a last resort. After adopting Sundae, our 1-year old Catahoula-Lab mix, this past spring, we were really worried that we were going to have to give her back to the shelter due to her aggressive behavior towards people and dogs. She was extremely fearful of new places/people, she was possessive of us and toys, she had separation anxiety, and she would lunge/growl/nip at people or dogs. She got along well with our other dog, but she would sometimes pester him and get possessive when we showed affection toward him. Before finding Leonard, we went to two different dog trainers, who were unable to help us with the problem. Leonard showed us a completely different approach, and we learned that almost everything we were doing to try to fix the problem (e.g. positive reinforcement, treats) was making it worse. After the initial session with Leonard, we already saw changes in Sundae, and we decided to send her to his bootcamp. We liked that Leonard takes only takes two dogs at a time and that the dogs live with him while going through the bootcamp/rehabilitation. While Sundae was at bootcamp, we met with Leonard for trainings towards the end. This was really helpful because he taught us skills about how to handle her differently. These trainings also gave us more hope and confidence that we would be able to handle her when she came home. Not only did he train her, but he helped us work through our anxiety about handling her. We learned that we have to take control and show our dog that we are the leaders of the pack, and through that we would build trust. Sundae has been home with us for two weeks now, and she is a totally different dog! She is polite, obedient, less anxious/fearful, happier, and most importantly, not aggressive towards people or dogs. Without Leonard's help, her aggression would have likely continued to get worse, and we probably would have had to rid of her or put her down. We are so relieved and happy that she has improved and turned into a really good dog. Thank you, Leonard!

TimTam so comfortable and relaxed with Leonard. He trusted and respected him a lot.

Leonard has literally changed our lives. Our dog was a 1.5 year old anxious, fearful, stressed, aggressive and dominant dog when we handed him off to Leonard. My husband and I were now at a point where we would get stressed and anxious at the thought of taking him outside the house. Don't get me wrong, he was great at the dog park - the friendliest dog in fact! It was only when he was at home or on a leash outside that he would be "difficult". Upon our first visit after 2 weeks Tim Tam already showed so much progress! We walked down Santa Monica 3rd St Promenade and he walked through it with a breeze. We were never able to walk through large crowds before. At the third week mark, we picked up an angel. He was so well behaved. He would walk without tugging. He would stay close to our body when we would walk past anything that used to make him nervous. He was capable of staying on one place until given command to leave. He was a well behaved dog that listened and respected us as his parents to be the alphas of the pack. Throughout the three week period we visited Leonard two times and each time we saw so much growth and change in our pup. Leonard also spent quality time with my husband and I. From all his teaching and tools that he gave us, we ended up learning so much about how we could be better not only ourselves as parents to our pup but also as a couple. We now have so many "tools" which we are continuing to use every so often to help keep our in pup confident, relaxed, and safe. We're so thankful for Leonard - he really changed our lives.

This is Yuki before Dominant Dog Training. Sad eyes, uncertain, and disconnected.

My dream dog had always been a Shiba Inu; Their build, their sass, their loyalty. That being said, I also knew that they were notorious for being extremely stubborn and even harder to train. So when fate presented us with the opportunity to adopt a Shiba Inu puppy from a shelter, I knew right away that we needed to find a damn good trainer. We got Yuki when he was 8 weeks old, and by 6 months, he was a hellion. The time had come to hand him off to a pro. Leonard's intuition with dogs and humans is uncanny. He defiantly knows when you're not being transparent with him. He is an expert at reading body language, and that is why he is an expert at working with dogs. Our biggest concern was that we didn't know how to communicate with Yuki. He would constantly look at us with a blank, disconnected face. He would also constantly whine. We took him to Leonard because we didn't just want a dog, we wanted a life companion. We were hoping that Leonard could teach us how to communicate with Yuki and teach Yuki his general manners. The results that Leonard produced were of supreme excellence. He doesn't focus teaching your dog commands such as sit, stay, and shake, but rather, he focuses on communicating with body language. His process is almost 100% non-verbal, teaching your dog to focused on you, your body movements, and you behavior. Allowing someone to take your dog for three weeks takes a lot of trust, and believe me it was difficult to do. Leonard was great with giving us updates on Yuki via email, phone, and text. We received lots of wonderful photos of Yuki and the achievements he had made. The first week without Yuki was really hard on us, but we knew we had made the right decision as Leonard gave us regular updates on Yuki's progress. By the end of the second week, we were so excited for our 2 hour training session with Leonard and Yuki. When we met for our 2 week check in, Yuki did not bark, whine, run, or jump when he saw us. Instead, he was calm and paying attention to Leonard (this part might break some owner's hearts, but it was still worth it). Leonard showed us all of Yuki's progress which was all non-verbal communication. Yuki was laser focused on Leonard and his body language. We were so impressed. Yuki was a completely different dog; He was happy, focused, and polite. After our 2 week check in, Yuki went back with Leonard for one more week. During this time, Leonard gave us a list of doggie gear that he suggested we get so that we could continue his training once Yuki came home. Here is an example of how in-tune Yuki was with us once he completed his training. This was from one of our email updates to Leonard after he came home. "He did do something that we think was great the other day. Alaina took him outside the house to go potty, and I was moving about and grabbed a drink of water, but I took too big of gulp, and it went down the wrong pipe. I started coughing loudly. Yuki heard me and started barking and lead Alaina inside to check on me. It made us both happy." Thank you Leonard for all your hard work. We know he was a pain in the butt, but you gave us the best dog companion a human could ask for.

He's a one-year-old Husky mix who's very curious to sniff every smell and excited to play with every dog, cat, bird, or squirrel that he sees, which has made it difficult to take him to any kind of public events or go on our daily walks stress-free. Even worse than stressing out me and my wife, his lack of self control also caused a lot of anxiety for Zeke. We were hoping that the training with OffLeash SoCal would give him a strong foundation that we could build on, and we feel like that's exactly what we got. It's really incredible the amount of progress he's made in just a short time. On our first walk since he got back, he was so good at sticking to my side with heel that I actually felt a little bad that he wasn't getting to explore and sniff around almost at all. That's on me, since I still haven't gotten used to issuing all the commands at the appropriate times. Next time I'm going to make a point to give him space to do his own thing after we've gotten the daily training refresher out of the way -- I think he'll be hearing "break" a lot more from me. It should be said that the boarding training really is just a foundation. He's not perfectly obedient, and there's a lot of work left for my wife and I to do with him in the weeks and months to come. That's exactly what we expected, but the amount of progress he's made genuinely exceeded expectations. We're very grateful for the help, and we expect to have a few follow-up questions for Heather, which she's very graciously offered to be available for.

Heather completely exceeded every expectation I had for Charlie's 3 week off leash training program. Truly one of the best investments I've ever made for both of us. Charlie came home not only incredibly well trained, but genuinely HAPPY, confident, calm, and so clearly loved and cared for during his stay. That mattered the most to me. You can tell immediately when someone treats dogs like family instead of just a job, and Heather absolutely does. Before training, Charlie struggled with pulling, consistency, and focus. Now he walks beautifully, responds off leash, listens reliably, and honestly seems more relaxed and fulfilled overall. The transformation is kind of unbelievable. Heather also kept me updated throughout the process, answered my anxious dog mom questions with patience, and made me feel completely comfortable trusting her with my baby. The amount of care, structure, professionalism, and knowledge she brings is rare. If you're on the fence about training, do it. And if you're looking for someone trustworthy, skilled, loving, and genuinely exceptional at what they do, HEATHER IS YOUR GIRL !! Charlie came back better trained than I imagined possible, and still completely himself: goofy, loving, joyful, and thriving. I could not recommend her more highly.

Within the first week we discovered our new member was extremely anxious (she escaped once and was gone for hours), was up through the night and not housebroken. This prompted us to connect with Dee where we collaborated on our goals together, and set our focus on reducing anxiety, potty and crate training, and teaching hand signals to keep our pup from bolting out the door. Two months later, we are THRILLED to report that our puppy's anxiety levels are down dramatically, she is 99% potty trained, fully crate trained and sleeping through the night and not a single attempt at an escape. An added bonus is seeing the benefit all of this has had on our other dogs and how quickly the puppy and cat were able to integrate. We did our meetings with Dee over FaceTime, starting at 3 to 4 times a week, and naturally decreasing as Dee's program was so effective. Dee is extremely knowledgeable, provides clear instruction, and has a way of explaining situations from a dog's perspective that makes it easy to understand the interventions. However, she is also understanding and flexible when we expressed needing adjustments based on our own lifestyle or goals for our family. I informed them that I would've paid for training before committing to a membership if they would've let me know that there were any issues. Our dog went a couple of more times until they could finally get me in touch with the trainer, 6 visits later. Actually I had lost complete trust at this facility. To add insult to injury, I was able to speak to one of their actual workers that is with the dogs and she let me know that our dog is only let out for about 10 minutes at a time, maybe 3 to 4 times a day during a 12 hour stay. This is their VIP option. So not only is he left in a room for about 12 hours a day, with dogs barking all around him, he's not being stimulated nor played with just being let out to go to the bathroom. Contradicting everything they say that they offer. Their "trainer" is also a joke. He is supposed to be from the Marines and well-versed in the breed of dog that we have. Upon washing him for 5 minutes, as I was told, he said that our dog needed to be neutered before he could be trained because of his energy. Our dog is a Malinois and is not supposed to be neutered before 2 years of age. We've since went elsewhere to get our dog trained from someone who is actually educated on his breed and he's worked on all of his anxiety and reactivity issues that our pup got because of this place.
