How does one write a 5-star review for someone who does a vasectomy procedure? You'd think it'd be an emotional 1-star review. However, I had an amazing experience here compared to my first visit with another Urologist and staff nearby. First, I have to start with Dr. Hyman's staff. My wife who works in medical always says the staff makes the doctor. I can tell you that the office staff, nurses, and assistants here are all amazing. They're very friendly, personable and communicable throughout, always going the extra mile if needed. Second, Dr. Hyman himself is highly energetic ...in a good way. What I mean is that he carries an optimistic personality, speaking with presence and charisma. He always checked if I had any questions, making sure to leave no stone unturned. The day of, I was scared as hell to have this procedure done. But I remember reading somewhere, "doesn't it make more sense to unload the gun rather than firing at a bulletproof vest?" Based on that, a vasectomy seemed like the most sensible route for me. Plus, I'm doing this for my wife. Who could say no to that? We discussed all the options, and my choice of offering a vasectomy seemed like the least invasive. So I manned up and braved the elements. That being said, the elements were hardly elements at all. I thought he wasn't done numbing me up, when he said out loud he was half way done. I replied, "half way numbing?!" And he responded, "no, I'm in. We're halfway done." I was surprised considering I hardly felt anything other than the first needle stick to numb me up. I even heard from others about a little pulling and hardly felt that too. I was in and out in no time, and was able to drive myself home. I'm currently typing this from bed the day after. A psychological part of me feels like I should be hurting, but I honestly feel pretty great. I'm pretty much only taking Tylenol for pain and it's minimal. Basically, if anyone were to ever (oddly enough) ask me about where to get this procedure done, it'd be hands-down with Dr. Hyman. It was easy with little (and I mean very little) pain or discomfort. From the office staff to the doctor, you really couldn't ask for better than this. read more

OK, I had to worst experience today, attempting to go to my appointment with Dr. Hyman I plugged in the correct address on my GPS yet I parked in the paying parking, it was the wrong building (went all the way up at the eighth floor with my walker since I'm disabled and found out and it was the wrong building‼ When I call the doctor office the male receptionist was not really able to give me good directions to get to their building. Mind you this is quite a ways from my house and I had to drive back-and-forth in the commuting morning traffic for nothing! It's very frustrating After I finished with this review, I started reading all their reviews and about 70% of these reviews have a complaint about the receptionist or the stuff ! I noticed that they were calling other patients who arrived later than us. I started to wonder and asked the staff what was going on, why we weren't being called, and why they called other patients who came later than us. The response I received was that he didn't know. We were finally called at almost 12 noon, and I asked the staff what was happening; she said to ask the doctor. We were in the room, and we prepared our 93-year-old patient to lie on the bed to get ready for changing his SP tubing. The doctor went into the room and was mad that I had approached his staff to ask a question. He brought a paper showing me what he did for other patients, and that was not my business in the first place. Then he decided not to do the SP change, left the patient half-naked, and told me to look for another doctor. This showed how unprofessional he was to us and his attitude. Dr. Hyman had an attitude even before when I first met him. The only thing we were waiting for was at least the courtesy of being told to wait because the doctor was assisting another patient who needed to be seen first. We would understand, but none of them said anything, and the doctor did not say anything nice. Instead, he came in with an attitude. He really had the nerve. read more

Tough name for a urologist but, personally, he is an easily likable guy. More importantly, he's worked on me twice with good results. Any operation will get a suggestion of nitrous oxide I'm thankful I did. No pain and positive results. I've recommended him to a close friend who is searching for a compassionate guy who will explain procedures and answer questions. I think he's great. read more

We came in with very specific questions regarding surgery that another doctor had discussed. I offered to quickly sketch the nature of the multiple deformities because those details were not clear in the medical record, and two previous doctors had said seeing the sketch was helpful. This doctor said there would be no point to our providing a sketch. He then barged forward with dismissive language. The hardest part was my partner felt like the doctor was practically gloating about the impasse. It felt like that to me too at the time. Perhaps the doctor is uncomfortable with situations that are beyond his ability. If he feels he can't handle a situation, he should at least remain mature and professional. read more

He ordered all the right tests, followed up consistently, and made sure every possible cause was explored so we could accurately identify the issue. His thoroughness, communication, and genuine care made a huge difference in my experience. I felt heard, supported, and guided every step of the way. My biggest gripe with the office is with Sydney the biller. She is very not very responsive and doesnt want to do her job. My husband insurance covered his procedure at 100% and no copay needed not only did they charge me a copay but they also charged a $250 deposit. All she had to do was call the phone number and verify our coverage but she wasn't willing to. So she told me to do and and have them fax her (i did) then it was crickets . She told me if i did so she would refund us and its been nothing. She was not very kind the one time i spoke with her as well very condescending. Now im still trying to get my refund! Dr. Hyman is very knowledgeable and detailed. His examination and diagnosis was accurate.

Dr. Michael Hyman saved my sister's life on a Sunday, normally his day off. He rushed to the hospital where my sister was gravely ill from a septic kidney stone, and close to death. After making sure the kidney was functioning again with a stent, he then later successfully removed the very large trapped kidney stone. Dr. Hyman explains everything, is positive, and terrific! He is the very best choice for urology, providing many intricate procedures and surgeries for both men and women. read more

Welp. That didn't go well. It appears the receptionist told Dr. Hyman that I was being rude. My very brief consultation ended with Dr. Hyman scolding me for a few minutes while I patiently waited for him to finish. The only thing I said to the receptionist was, "Do you guys take notes?" in response to being asked if I had a referral. I had called the office at least a half dozen times to schedule and each time I would review that I *did* have health insurance *and* a referral from my GP. They don't seem to keep track of previous conversations. At no point did I ever raise my voice, use any profanity, or insult any of the staff. I get very nervous in doctors' offices but that tends to mean that I get quiet as I'm just trying to hold it together. I don't know if the staff interpreted my anxiety as some kind of personal attack but I would think that a medical staff would understand that not every person is all smiles while at the doctor's office. As I was leaving Dr. Hyman asserted that all I had to do was apologize and we could have moved forward however while I was trying to communicate to reception everyone was just shutting me down. I arranged an appointment with Dr. Hyman for my father's routine prostate exam, and our experience was nothing short of terrible. Calling the doctor's office to request email documentation of the visit and PSA test turned into a complete nightmare. Dr. Hyman's administrative assistant had me on hold for over an hour and was unable to send the results by email. I found myself calling nearly 10 times, and each time, she behaved as though it was my first request. This was one of the most aggravating experiences I've endured in quite some time. Ultimately, the PSA test was sent, but it was done by Dr. Cosgrove's assistant instead, as Dr. Hyman's office seemed incapable of managing the request. To make matters worse, Dr. Hyman seemed hurried during the examination and failed to include any recommendations in his notes, let alone follow up afterward. Also, the PSA test took almost a week to process and the office never called us to tell us. We had to call them. In summary, visiting this doctor's office was an appalling experience, and I would NOT recommend it to anyone. read more

Avoid this doctors office. Very disappointed in my experience with them. Staff is very rude and unprofessional. They waste your time and treat you like they're doing you a favor. The lady in charge of billing is especially rude and quick to argue with customers. Instead of contacting you via email, cell or text to inform you of your account status, she will quickly send your account to collections. I was referred by a friend, and was so pleased with Dr. Hyman & his office staff. Very courteous, easy to schedule my appointment, took me on time, and Dr. Hyman made me feel very comfortable. Due to some testing I needed done, I've since had 3 interactions with him and he's been great. Offered a telehealth consult which saved me a drive into his office, takes the time to explain everything, and is looking for solutions for me that are the least invasive & least costly. Be careful I went to the doctor and he prescribed me the wrong medication for one year. After my 1-year checkup he asked me why did I prescribe you tamsulosin? The reason he asked me that is because tamsulosin had side effects that was not good for me and I had told him initially I did not react well to the side effects. He told me Alfonsolynn does not have the side effects that tamsulosin has and ask me again why did I prescribe you tamsulosin? My response to him was I have no idea doctor if I knew what medication I should take I would not be coming to you. After deciding to go to another doctor he stopped responding to my requests including but not limited to not complying by sending patient medical records upon requests multiple times. I would stay away from the doctor and advise everyone else to look elsewhere. He is only looking to cut you up and make money on different procedures. When you asked him a question instead of answering you he gets irritated causes his eyes as if he's falling asleep shakes his head and gives you a one-word answer instead of actually understanding your concern and taking a few minutes to do his job properly. Dr. Hyman, Jhanira, Iris, and Yuri are devoted to what they do and their patients. Dr. Hyman is extremely knowledgeable and takes his time to sit down and answer questions. He has even responded to e-mails in a timely manner. Jhanira, the surgery coordinator, is happy to assist, even if it means responding to a message over the weekend. Iris is always warm and personable and genuinely wants to make sure the patient is doing as well as possible. Yuri is very sweet and capable and has quickly become part of the team. I am grateful for all of them and the compassion they show for their patients and the passion they have for what they do. read more

I chose Dr. Hyman for a minor surgery, and he did a really fantastic job. He thoroughly answered all of my questions and talked me through the entire process. The office staff was also very helpful in getting the appointments and insurance coverage squared away without any issues. read more

Their billing employee told me that if I would like to speak I could do so after she was done speaking and that she would put down the phone while I did so because she was very busy. Did not spend 5 minutes with me the first session. Asked for blood test. In the second session said I have to have a treatment plan. After 3 more sessions and blood test nothing has changed. Wow, it's hard to put into words how grateful we are for Dr Hyman's compassion. And his staff's. Monica helped get my husband into see him as he was suffering from unbearable kidney stone pain. Dr Hyman gave him a shot for the pain that helped immensely. He also prescribed a strong painkiller. We scheduled a 2nd appointment because he didn't pass it, and again Monica helped with that so much. He finally passed it on his own but we are still keeping the 2nd appointment just to make sure all is ok now. It's just so heartwarming to see that this doctor cares so much and that his staff does too. He also recommended a nephrologist to help figure out what's causing the stones. His staff is f****** crazy. I had a balance due for months but no one told me, even the last time I went it. I got a bullish call from the office manager who said if I didn't pay in two days, they would send it to collections as the collections rep was coming to her office that Friday. When I verified my address with her, guess what, she had the wrong address. And basically told me it wasn't her problem. She sent it to collections anyway. First red flag. I've had the same number for years. So for her office to not call me sooner until 2 days before it has already been 6 months, was literally crazy to me. But I told myself, it's not the doctors fault... Then today I called to get a refill on a script, and Jenny said I needed to come in because it's been 6 months since I've been in the office and the doctor would like to see me. I set the appt, and she calls back and said the doctor said if I pay the balance he would call in the script and I don't need to see him. I was like, wtf. Which is it? Do I need to see the doctor or pay the balance that you mailed to the wrong address? And then you will call in a refill? Anyway, I like Dr. Hymen, he is attentive to men's sexual health and have always liked him even before he switched locations, but this staff at this location is horrible. Especially the office manager who doesn't take accountability for her false representation. So, if you can dance around their street talk and unprofessionalism, then it would be worth it to see Dr. Hymen. read more

I wish I could give Dr Hyman 100 stars - 5 is not enough! I went to 6 different doctors until I found Dr Hyman. He is truly amazing. Besides being an incredibly qualified and expert doctor - he is kind, warm, sincere, calming, considerate and made me feel safe and comfortable. He has an incredibly light tough and has done procedures on me that had minimal pain (whereas previous doctors did the same procedures which were very painful!) I don't understand the big differences in experience yelpers have had with Dr. Hyman but my husband has had a largely negative experience with Dr. Hyman. My husband found him to be rude and brisk, and generally not caring. To start off with, his office is so busy that it seems like he's always rushing around and doesn't have enough time to devote to his patients. Which would explain why he's so curt. Another example, the medication that Dr. Hyman has prescribed to my husband has had unpleasant side effects so my husband was exercising skepticism with this last prescribed medication because it's the newest (with no long term history) one. When my husband addressed his concerns to Dr. Hyman, all Dr. Hyman said was "Let me know what you decide." That's it. No counterpoints, nothing to try to help my husband make this decision. Unfortunately my husband has had more similar encounters with this doctor but no need to go into any more detail about it. It's heartbreaking to watch my husband suffer and have a doctor who shows such little regard for his patient. We're looking for another urologist now. I would not recommend this doctor to anyone that I care about. read more

Dr. Hyman is absolutely fantastic. My Dad was suffering from a kidney stone and we were referred to Dr. Hyman and his bedside manner, knowledge, compassion and follow up was impeccable. He was out of town as this happened right before a long weekend and Dr Hyman gave my Dad his cellphone and followed up and talked my dad off the ledge when he was in such pain. I rarely come across doctors today who truly emulate care and compassion and authentic interest in the patient. Dr. Hyman goes above and beyond and is sensational in how he runs his practice. When I saw Dr. Hyman (after undergoing some uncomfortable tests & a few office visits), he told me I had a few issues that were non-curable. He suggested medication or an implant. You can read my previous review on why I ended up leaving as a patient. I found a new urologist (who is fantastic). The very first exam I told him the same symptoms I was having & he had me give a urine sample & he did a quick physical exam. He told me I have a bacterial infection that can be cured with antibiotics. What?! You mean my issues I've been living with for the past two years or more are something completely different than what Dr. Hyman said AND curable? Needless to say, I was ecstatic, yet still skeptical. I went through the first round of 21-day antibiotics. I felt no different. (My new doctor told me it might take a couple rounds of antibiotics). Then I tried a different antibiotic for 21 days and eureka all of my symptoms were gone!!! Over two years of uncomfortableness, pain & stress and my new doctor cures me within 2 months of our initial visit! I am so happy that I left Dr. Hyman's care. I cannot imagine how miserable I would have been going through more months or years or a lifetime thinking I have some issues that are non curable and just suffering through it. I am so disappointed I was referred to him in the first place, but happy I was fed up enough to leave and find someone new. read more

Had a kidney stone procedure done by Dr. Michel Hyman on Friday morning, 10/30/15. I have to tell you this has been the best experience, not only with Dr. Hyman but with the WHOLE surgical staff! I was able to walk away with no feelings of sickness nor pain. It is now early wee hours of 10/31/15 and still feeling amazing. I did take a 2 hour nap right after surgery and feel like I never had surgery. I have slight pressure when I urinate, but this is normal due to the stent that is still inside. - which will be removed early next week on my post visit. Again, a wonderful experience with Dr.Hyman and he will always be my urologist! read more

Wow did I get lucky when I was referred to Dr Hyman. I was having agonizing pain episodes from my apparent kidney stone and Dr Hyman got me on the fast track to analyzing, and removing it . I just had surgery with Dr Hyman at St Joe's in Burbank and it went flawlessly. I was having another terrible pain attack and he was able to take me in and do the stone removal surgery that very same day. He's my hero today, I won't have to live with the fear of that terrible pain returning any longer. Now just dealing with a little post op discomfort but I can deal with that . Will be following up with Dr Hyman soon . He has a great bedside manor and personality, and spent quality time with me on the phone answering my questions . I recommend him highly . I had a procedure by an excellent surgeon in Santa Monica, but with the Getty fire I was unable to get to that office due to road closures. I called around for a doctor who would do the ultrasound to see if I was retaining too much in my bladder and the only doctor who helped me in Encino was Dr. Hyman. They got me in quickly and allayed my concern ... even addressed my dehydration. Back at home now and so thankful that he was willing to step in to assist ... very calming, very kind and even prescribed some medication for my overactive bladder. This doctor is a gentleman ... thank you so much. As to Dr. Cosgrove ... his staff could not have cared less ... put me on hold for a long period of time and than refused to see me for a month. Dr. Hyman treated me for chronic UTI's. I've been experiencing them since 1998. I've been on so many aggressive antibiotics since my first UTI. Dr Hyman told me to take Epson baths to treat this problem. I never have these infections now. FYI this Dr also saved the life of someone very important to me by an accurate early diagnosis of cancer. Thank you Dr Hyman!! read more

Just came out of Dr Hyman's office where he performed my vasectomy. Overall a very good experience. Not only was his front lobby staff nice and professional, but so was the assisting nurse. From the first consultation meeting to the actual procedure, Dr Hyman comes across as a very nice, lighthearted, yet professional physician who opens up and converses well with his patients. He shared great stories with me as he performed the almost painless, non-invasive vasectomy procedure. One of them was about a couple of his patients who decided to have their vasectomies performed together on camera for their YouTube channel called 'Good Mythical Morning'. When i was in need of a very concerning procedure, he was very patient and took time to answer all my questions spelling everything out--ultimately the procedure was flawless and i am fully recovered.
