It is so refreshing to have someone who is responsive, fair, honest, reliable, and on top of it all, does an absolutely wonderful job. I contacted Michael via email and within an hour, we had scheduled an appointment and he was going to be here the following day. Our plumber recommended this company to us and Michael has been to our house twice to fix different issues with the sprinklers. Our sprinkler system sounded like a railroad train and turns out a valve needed replacement. I generally reserve my reviews for only those contractors who have given me 5-star service. And with a 100-year old house, I have hired a lot of contractors over the years. Michael is one of those 5-star guys. I had leaky sprinkler valves which needed to be replaced, broken sprinkler heads and drip hoses, and a broken underground water pipe (which, unlike anyone else, he was able to locate). Three other contractors had tried to work on these issues and each either fell short or left another problem behind. Michael fixed everything in short order. I contacted Michael about a week ago and he was incredibly responsive. I explained that the work I needed was probably rather minimal and wasn't sure it would be a good fit. None the less, he was happy to schedule an appointment to come out and take a look. He showed up on time, and was so incredibly knowledgeable and thorough with his evaluation and explanation. He's a true pro and spent a generous amount of time reviewing not only my irrigation needs but how I could save water in other ways and also how to best care for my lawn. There is a vast difference between Michael's expertise and the "gardeners" I've shelled out several hundreds of dollars to, only to receive inferior, ineffective and incomplete results. All that to say, Michael came out this morning, in the rain, and completed the job. He also charged significantly less than the original estimate claiming it was less work than he expected. I've used the services of O'Connor for two homes now and highly recommend them! Most recently, we had an issue with an irrigation leak on our newly purchase home. As always, Michael and his team were prompt and thorough in resolving the problem as well as inspecting the entire system and making additional (and creative) adjustments to other parts of our system. We are VERY happy with the results! One of the things that impresses me most about Michael is his integrity and unwillingness to compromise on the quality of parts that he installs in his systems. While other companies may use very cheap plastic components, he is more concerned about the long-term life of the system and only uses high quality brass parts for key areas. You may pay a little bit more upfront for this quality, but you can be reassured that you're not having to call him back in a year to fix a broken plastic piece! I'm not a fan. Came to fix a leaking valve and then told me that I needed two additional new valves, which I did NOT! Charged me $340 for 2 addional valves which should have cost me 65. each. And charged me a hefty service charge on top of that. Took the lion's share of my sprinkler job and didn't deal with the rest of the system, which required attention and to the fact that he aimed one of the heads at my front door. My bill came to $520. Called because I had a faulty sprinkler that was installed by an amature (me). He came out, assessed the situation, tested the water supply and the electrical connections, and in less than an hour, he had the system back up and running. While I called him just for one valve, he took the time to check out the entire system, (adjusting sprinkler spray heads, cleaning out clogged sprinklers, and re-connecting a loose wire to another valve. We're always happy to find and be able to recommend a licensed contractor, who is conscientous and likes and knows his trade. We thank the certified arborist who referred us to Michael O' Connor. This week, Michael brought us into this century by converting our manually- operated sprinkler system to an automatic one. In addition, he added supplemental sprinkler heads and changed the existing pressure regulator's setting to get more efficient and better coverage, so there is no water waste and our pre- existing problem of sprinkler water hitting the house and windows was eliminated. Michael understands different plants and trees' water needs and based on his honesty, he was able to tweak the use of existing valves so charged us $250 less than the contract estimated. After Michael gave me a very good quote, he said he was available a month later and we scheduled the appt. My trees were dying in the 111 degree weather, but he was busy. I had a family death and had to cancel that appt. After this, I called and left messages to reschedule at least 8 times, talking with his mother several times (who said she didn't understand why Michael hadn't called me back). I never heard back from him. I even sent a postcard to his address, begging him to call me because my trees were in such bad shape. My only guess is that my job was too small for him. I did finally leave a message threatening to write this review. Never heard from him. I have several neighbors who loved him, and also several who had the same experience I did. read more
