--$--$--$--$--$--$--$--$-- Please, people, be wary and be an advocate for yourself and family when it comes to your dental care. Our former dental office, Grant Rickey, DDS referred my daughter to this office years ago regarding a slight crossbite my daughter had. We trusted that former dentist (shame on us) and did make an appointment with Michael Kasso for some special X-Rays, which were very expensive. He also took some still shots of her face, including profile photos. Upon reviewing the photos with him, he rudely told my daughter she looked deformed. Deformed?!!! Hell NO she does NOT look deformed, for crying out loud. Honestly, her slight crossbite had not been noticeable to any family or friends. He then went on to tell us a less invasive procedure would probably not benefit her situation and that a VERY expensive, over $10K surgery would probably be necessary. That extremely invasive surgery entailed cutting open the entire roof of her mouth. We did not believe him and discontinued any further ripoffs...I mean "service" from him. The second he insulted my daughter, he lost all credibility from me. I don't go for cheap shot sales pitches. Interestingly, upon another visit to Grant Rickey's dental office, a different dentist examined my daughter's mouth and said her crossbite was so slight that no action was needed. Interesting. My daughter is in excellent, top-notch dental care now. Phewwwwwwwww. Just last week, our dentist his fabulous hygienist, my daughter and I chatted about what went down at Kasso's office. The dental professionals were appalled by what my daughter endured at Kasso's office as are we. I also know other people who were told they needed expensive procedures done at Kasso's office. What a shame for those who followed through with possibly unnecessary dental work. Sadly, we cannot always trust our dentists. We learned that many years ago. I can not stress enough how important it is to get second opinions on dental work. Not only can unnecessary procedures cost you an enormous amount of money, procedures do not always go smoothly and you can end up with further issues and needless pain. And, search and search this planet until you do find a trustworthy dentist. There are great ones who put the patient's needs and well-being first. We also know for a fact there are dentists out there who have one goal... to fatten their pocketbooks. All three of my children went to Dr Kasso over 23 years ago. Today, my oldest went to see an orthodontist in another state (they have all left California) to see about some movement of her teeth. The orthodontist told her that whomever her orthodontist was he had done a wonderful job. He said that her teeth were in perfect alignment, her bite was perfect and he said her teeth were a magnificent job of good ortho work. She has started grinding her teeth which is the cause for the visit. After over 23 years, thank you, thank you, Dr. Kasso, for your great work! read more

I had a horrible experience with Dr. Kasso, and looking at some of the other reviews now, I really regret that I started my treatment with him. To summarize the situation, Dr. Kasso abandoned me and refused treating me in the middle of the treatment (5 months into it to be more specific). He didn't tell me why, or even referred me to another dentist. He didn't even offer emergency services. Not only that, he didn't even bother writing me a letter explaining why he terminated the treatment, let alone an advanced notice would have helped me to find another orthodontist. He literally abandoned me on the phone in a very rude manner and hang up on me. He said "I am done with you". What kind of a doctor would do that? I have to this date no idea why he flipped like that. All I was doing was to ask him a couple questions about the treatment. He also didn't give my money back, and I am still trying to recover my money. Not to mention the time I lost from my overall treatment time. It took a while to find another orthodontist, and every orthodontist I went to quoted me the full treatment fee and treatment time. In other words, I had to start from scratch. Couple words about his style. He certainly doesn't like questions and I believe he has serious communication issues. I am guessing he flipped out because I was asking questions, although there was no indication from him until the very last phone conversation, that he wasn't happy about questions... Anyway, my situation was little complicated and needed to involve a couple of oral surgeries. From the very beginning, Dr. Kasso did not have a solid plan about the sequence of the events that would take place during my treatment, including the surgeries and who the surgeon would be, and all I wanted to was to clarify those. I also second the other reviewers point here, Dr. Kasso doesn't wear a mask during the visits which means you have to smell his bad breath, his tools looked really old and rusty, which were pretty disgusting. His assistant was nice though.. I have also received concerning reviews about the orthodontists I have visited afterward, some of which mentioned that Dr. Kasso might have done some permanent damage to the teeth by moving them way too fast (he was adjusting my teeth every 2 weeks, whereas my current orthodontist is adjusting them every 6 weeks). I am obviously not a doctor, and cannot evaluate the the health of the teeth, which will also show in long term, but just conveying my experience here. This doctor in my opinion is a real jerk. He is very unprofessional and especially the way he "dismissed" a patient from his office is very unethical, to the point where he put the patient in a difficult situation especially given the lack of emergency services. If you'd like to receive professional treatment, clear communication, and piece of mind, find another orthodontist. Dr. Kasso and his staff is amazing. It has been five years now since I had braces and upper/lower jaw surgery. I would do it all over again. He advised me and was always comforting and kind. I was referred to hom by my dentist eho said if I don't get the pressure of my back teeth (all crowned) I am going to lose the. Dr Kasso assured me that surgery would work. It was a two year process and he took very good care of me. I hsd my mouthvwired shut for two weeks. I lost 30 lbs to boot and look and feel better about myself too. I can close my bite now and my lips. I had large open bite and now no pressure on back teeth. Thank you Dr. Kasso and staff. I love you all! I am very thankful that my daughter is a patient of Dr Kasso's. She has a tooth in her mouth that has not errupted and is laying on a nerve. Dr Kasso met with us at the oral surgeon's office and stayed with us through the surgery she had to have. We really appreciated all to the doctor's support. He has treated both of my daughter's for orthodontics and our experience has been nothing but excellent with him as well as with his staff. read more

I would not recommend. Make sure you properly interview your orthodontist before you spend any money. After months of discomfort, I found a better orthodontist out there. read more

Dr. Kasso is the best orthodontist in the tri-valley. His staff is amazing to. He understands and treats your individual needs without comprimising your dental health. Any orthodontist can move teeth to be esthetically pleasing but few use their knowledge in the mechanics of moving teeth to give a lifetime result!! I went with my daughter for her follow up visit last week to check her retainer since her braces came off- as always the staff was friendly, the appointment time kept without delay and my update from Dr. Kasso informative & to the point. Dr. Kasso is amazing. He fixed my twisted teeth and MAJOR overbite. In addition, he also worked on three of my siblings teeth and did a wonderful job. We all had different issues and he was able to create different plans to help correct them; now we ALL get amazing compliments on how nice our smiles are. I have been out of braces for almost 10 years and Kasso STILL does check ups on my retainers and makes sure everything is staying in the spot it is supposed to. I would, and DO, recommend Dr. Kasso to everyone and anyone who needs braces. His office is always clean and orderly and has games for younger kids too. I just hope he's still in practice when my future kids need braces. I think it would be impossible to find anyone I trust as much as him and his staff. read more

Dr. Kasso prescribed "sectioning and moving forward" my daughters jaw bone. She was only 7 years old(I think he belives himself to be a surgeon or perhaps once aspired to be one). My wife and myself were blown away that he wanted to do this to a child before seeing how they would eventually develop naturally. I can only guess that he must receive a stiff referral fee from the oral surgeon when he prescribes these wild operations. We were also dismissed(terminated) by Dr. Kasso's office manager and never even got an explanation from him directly. He then breifed the referred Othodontist on the fact that our daughter was an uncooperative patient and never followed directions. The new orthodontist found that very hard to believe as she was and had always been SUPER strict about following any rules set forth by him as well as Dr. Kasso or his assistants. At the time we were pretty amazed that the only one in the office that had(severely) crooked teeth was Dr. Kasso himself. I remember my daughter asking "when is Dr. Kasso going to get braces?" OUCH! Our daughter is now 26 and Beautiful! I can't imagine what would have happened to her if we had let them do the jaw section surgery. read more

I totally agree with Sherri C.!!! Two out of our Three children have been treated by Dr. Kasso. My son also had a difficult case. He had a under bite which required two different set of braces. At no time did I ever feel he was trying to add on extra charges. Just the opposite actually he helped us! We have three children 15,13,12 years in age. We had our 13 year old next. She also had a cross bite which Dr. Kasso was able to correct in just under a year. My youngest is next! All three of my children love Dr. Kasso. read more

We have been very pleased with the care and professionalism of Dr Kasso and his staff. My son completed his treatment in a timely manner we did not have any unforseen surprises or costs with his treatment. Because my son played high school football they helped accommodate our schedules. When my son had an injury to his front tooth after braces were removed from playing rugby Dr Kasso saw my son in the office he was very kind, helpful and compassionate. Dr Kasso was instrumental in helping us save the tooth, and recommended a custom fit mouth guard for sports. Many athletes only wear over the counter mouth guards and custom fit ones I believe would have helped against this injury. My son has a beautiful smile and we owe a special thank you to Dr Kasso and his staff. I have recommended Dr Kasso to all my family for their orthodontic care. read more
